(Original Air Date: 01/31/08) You’ve heard the phrase, “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!” Dr. Phil’s guests say to achieve justice they were forced to take matters into their own hands. Dr. William Moody says his constitutional rights were violated when he was physically and verbally attacked while arguing with a man about moving his car. But the dentist wasn’t on his best behavior either. You won’t believe what’s on this tape – but does it tell the whole story? What does Dr. Phil think? Then, 75-year-old Mona made national news when she walked into the office of her local cable company with a hammer and smashed up their equipment! She says they were rude and gave her inadequate service, and she doesn’t regret her actions. Was the grandmother justified in taking on big business with a weapon? Plus, meet a man who shot video of himself pulling over an erratic driver whom he thought was under the influence. Should you perform a citizen’s arrest if you encounter a drunk driver on the road? Hear what the experts have to say and join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Cable/phone company

if the answer to this question is not 4 then don't get caught acting like this. i love the doctors explanation about the five foot, 90lb women that "attacked" him......priceless. she just ran into my hand and fell all by herself. she should not have pushed him but if that was assult then the next time i'm in line at the grocery store and someone bumps into me best believe i will cry ASSULT!! not really. sometimes i think adults forget to behave like adults. any normal person would have stayed in their car and thought wow this sux i have to wait for a parking place i really wish this person would hurry. why flip out over a parking place?? there are far more important things to worry about in life. i wonder what the dentist does when you don't floss? yikes!
Dr. Phil needs to do a whole show on how horrible Comcast is to their customers.  Everyone needs to leave them so they shut down.  They are horrible!!!  Good for her to get their attention.  They made me feel like I needed to do something like that too.

Their customer service is the worst.  I am so glad I am no longer with them.

The dentist was in the wrong.  I can't believe he can look at that video and think he was in the right.

citizens arrest done right.

I live in Texas and driving home one night I saw someone crossing lanes.  I new they were drunk.  I called 911.  I watched him keep crossing lanes.  I got behind him at a distance and put my hazzords on.  I described everything to the operator.  As we kept going down the highway the police kept transfering me to  the next city.  I was worried because he almost hit two different cars.  Soon there was another car who saw what was going on and he got next to me and put his hazzords on.  We both were on the phone with the police and still no cops yet.  We went through 3 different cities.  I passed my exit but hoped something would happen because I didn't know how much longer I could wait.  I was only 17 and almost at my curfew.  Thankfullly the car exited.  Only now I didn't know what to do.  Do I follow him? Something could happen to me.  Just then some of the other cars that helped me pulled in front on him and we boxed him in.  He turned his car off and all the cars just sat there.  We waited 2 mins.  which at the time seemed like forever.  Finally the cops came and arrested him.  He failed the test.  Hopefully he will never drink and drive again.

Dr. Moody

I am disgusted by the fact this man started the whole incident and feels justified.  Did he ever just walk over and ask the person to move the car, or did he just explode in anger?  And the fact that the woman "assaulted" him first is ridiculous.  He waited before he retaliated, he did not react to a physical assault.  That means he was aware and it was more of a premeditated act.  What makes him any better than any other street thug - because he's a "doctor."  I don't think so.

Mona is bold.

Quote From: fromthesquare

I have not seen the show yet but it sounds as if 75 year old Mona might be ready for the nursing home now.   Provided they have nice happy pills for her!

Mona is very bold to go in and "gotten their attention."  They messed up her telephone.  Wonder if she did have a big emergency?  To have her husband drive a long distance to use the telephone?  What was she going to do? She went in person to talk to them and they wanted her to go sit down and wait for how long it took them to talk to her.  She wasn't going to take their nonsense.  Boy, she let them have it, destroying their telephones.

Mona doesn't need to go to any nursing home.  She's as spunky as she can be!!!! Mona, you go girl!!!!

I was shocked at everyone (including Dr. Phil) thinking this was so funny and just worth a wrist-slap. I've worked in customer service for many years. I'm also a consumer and have had frustrating experiences with bad customer service. You have to understand that bad service usually comes when the head of a large corporation is trying to increase their profits, they cut the jobs and wages of the little guys - CSRs and

service technicians. The CSRs are usually over-worked and under-trained, so many of them lack the skills needed to calm an irate customer down.

Shame, Dr. Phil. If a man was angrily destroying stuff in his own house in the presence of his wife and kids, it would be considered domestic assault.

I too have worked in customer service before and even with the best of service which I gave I would still hear horror stories about customer coming to "BLOW UP your office!" because THEY did not pay their water bill.

weird show

Well, that dentist was a complete jerk, he was totally at fault and that whole thing was a "non-story".

I laughed my butt off at Mona's story and understand her anger- however, if she was a 30 year old man this wouldn't have even made the news and if it did we wouldn't be laughing and applauding.

finally, that young man that risked his life to get that drunk driver is a TRUE hero! We need more ppl like him in this world!

Vigilante Justice

Quote From: katlake

Why is No one upset about the elderly lady?  I don't believe that he should have played the race card but, I am starting to wonder if he was right no one is up in arms over the older White woman losing it in a place of business with a weapon!

No one is upset about the elderly lady, because she did not hurt any one and as a comcast customer

they still do not listen and the Dr had hurt several people and no one played the race card.

Pulling over drunk driver

Quote From: crysania4

of course it wasnt very good idea starting the fight and pulling the guy out of his car but then the guy pushed the doctor now that is assult. that wasnt assult how he went up to the camera guy to turn it off, nono, that wasnt assult he was trying to have privacy on what he's doing but of course went away not wanting any confrontation from the cop. Now when the sister came out to push him NOW she shouldnt of done that, stupid girl.
There should be more people like that man, then maybe less people would be dying on the roads.  Case-in-point, I belong to the largest social network going right now (Cafemom), December 31st, a member of Cafemom and her family were going home after visiting family and were hit by a drunk driver going the wrong way on the highway, 5 people lost their lives that day, youngest was an 8 week old baby.  Many people tried to stop him, unfortunately they weren't able to.

Quote From: giddyupgal

I was really disappointed in the audience reaction to the old lady with the hammer.  Would you have been laughing and applauded like the idiots you are if this had been perhaps a young hispanic male on a rampage??  A young black male on a rampage?  You were all just mortified that Dr. Moody reacted the way he did.  What's the difference?  Please explain?    Why does this crazy old lady think that just because she's 75 we (society) owes her something?  Maybe if you had a member of your family that was in the technology sector, you would see things differently.  I speak from experience.  My husband works for a MAJOR phone company (blue swirly globes ring a bell?).  There are times when repairs/installations are believed to be complete, however technology being what it is - not always 100% on the mark.  I can't tell you how many times we've been called at home and he' had to go back out and repair some oversight.  Late at night, weekends, early mornings.  Nobody cares - all they know is that YOU OWE ME SOMETHING!!!  But being in a "service industry" he goes and does the job.

Oh, and in case you are wondering what I do for a living - I work with the elderly.   And I don't find crazy old lady's actions funny, amusing, or even worth air time.  DR. Phil must be low on ratings

Love ya!

Giddyupgal

I didn't see that part since I was busy scrambling to the computer to write about how appalled I am about the Dentist.  Just hearing about the lady and reading the brief excerpt above this for "Vigilante Justice" though I can tell you, that woman was WRONG to go in ANYPLACE yielding a weapon (YES, a hammer used in that fashion IS a weapon!!).  It isn't funny, no.  You are right.  There is NO difference between what Dentist did and what this woman did, other than she used a weapon instead of hands, which are also considered weapons when used to attack.  She clearly needs help and not the encouragement it sounds like she got with a pat on the back.
