(Original Air Date: 02/01/08) Parent alert: If you have a teenaged son or daughter, you'll want to sit down with him or her and watch this show! Dr. Phil takes a hard look at what happens when young girls find themselves having a baby while they're still babies themselves. It doesn’t just happen to the bad girl down the street; your child can become pregnant while living under your roof. First up, Ansley is 14 and says she's ready to have a baby now. She's so desperate to be a mom that she lied and told people she is pregnant. Her dad and stepmother say she's gone so far as to show people fake sonograms! Are Ansley's elaborate lies just ploys to get attention, or is there something more going on? When Dr. Phil shows Ansley a glimpse of what it's really like to be a teen with a baby, will she change her opinion? Next, Pam was shocked to receive a phone call from the high school principal telling her that her 16-year-old, Kaylee, was four months pregnant. She says she had no idea her daughter was even having sex! Did she miss the signs? Now eight months along, see Kaylee's emotional story of how her pregnancy has impacted her entire family. And, 19-year-old Amber is mom to an 11-month-old and recently discovered she was pregnant again. Was she trying to trap the baby's father as his mother claims? Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

It's not all about you!

If teenage mothers make you sick well I guess I make you sick. I was pregnant at the age of 16. Not all teenage mothers are losers and it doesn't ruin the lives of the teenagers. I admit some of these mothers need to grow up and realize it is not a game. It is real life. But how dare you guys  and Dr. Phil to label all girls who get pregnant as losers and stupid.

I am almost 37. My daughter is 19. I am after 20 years married to my daughter father. I have a college degree and have a good job. The thing is I am most proud of in my life is being a mother and of my daughter.

My daughter is a mother of a wonderful 1 year little girl. She is a wonderful mother and loves her daughter more than herself. My daughter is smart, and has not ruined her life. She plans on going to college and I believe that she will suceed in life as well.

So how dare you and Dr. Phil to act as if that "ALL" teenage mothers have ruin thier lives and are stupid.

Becoming a teenage mother was the BEST thing that has ever happened to me!!!!

We dare because kids having babies is wrong: it places teen parents and babies at risk, and is a burden on society. That you don’t like that reality, or that it turned out OK for you doesn’t make it any less true.

Me – me-me-me-me. “Best thing that ever happened TO ME.”  So it turned out OK – but it wasn’t all about you, was it?  We don’t have to experience foolishness to know it’s foolishness, and getting pregnant when you aren’t an adult, can’t support a child, and expect your baby to fix your life is foolishness.

Moms and Dads – talk to your kids. You need to be a strong adult presence in your child’s life; teach, love, teach, even make it hard for them to have sex.

Parents of boys: read the post by Jillnovotne. This isn’t just about the girls. That mom who claimed that her son had been tricked into a pregnancy is just pathetic. Dads, step up to the plate, teach your boys self-control, and don’t make excuses.

Our kids are surrounded by messages that they have to have sex, they need to have sex, they should have sex.  Well, it’s not true. We need to counteract that message in every way, give them every tool we can, every support to help them resist that message until they’re truly adults ready for the awesome responsibility AND joy of a sexual relationship. Our grandchildren may just thank us some day.

I hid it for 8-1/2 months!

Hi Dr. Phi!

I felt compelled to comment on your topic of today's show:  Teen's having babies.

I had to laugh when you asked a mother on your stage how she could NOT know that her daughter was 4 months pregnant...I lived at home with my parents and no one knew until I was 8-1/2 months pregnant.  Everyone literally found out 2 weeks before I gave birth to my daughter (who is now 24 years old!)  the only person who knew from the time I did was her father.

I'm not sure what we were trying to accomplish by not telling anyone else.  I guess we were just trying to avoid confrontation with our families.

I would do it much differently if I had it to do all over again, but I think you learn from everything you go through.  I lived my life as a single parent until my daughter was 15 years old, and I finally married my husband.

Values & Morals

Dr. Phil

After watching this episode today - my thinking is with my parents where did the values and morals that were so prominent 40 and plus years ago!!! I was raised to know that you don't have sex until your married and that you keep your legs together!!!! I was involved in 4-H, livestock industry, school organizations. The kids these days just don't have parental involvement or guidance which is making this world come down to the downing of America and the world!!!

I do feel sorry of the teens and preteens that are having babies to a point but I think that they need to have their ass kicked if they think having sex won't mean anything hello 9 months later should answer that question.

A few things...

I haven't read the replies to this and have been living out of the country and haven't seen the shows for a year but I have a few comments.

Why is it that everyone always uses "you can't get a driver's licence" to stack up the can and can't dos when someone is fourteen. Since when did having a driver's license reflect on anyone's maturity? Just about any butthead can get one, doesn't mean they should have one.

Also, I get very tired of people blubbering that this baby is there and it's going to be such a burdon and it's going to screw up their life etc etc, why don't they give it away? There are so many people waiting for babies. In this day and age there's hardly an excuse for people to get pregnant when they're not ready but it happens and after the fact there's nothing you can do about it but there IS a solution after the baby is born and it can have a very happy ending.

I wouldnt consider giving a dirty look to a pregnant teen and I would do anything to help her out but I get very sad when I see her pushing a pram (sometimes pregnant again already) and knowing that she doesn't realise that this is all due to her choices.

Why isn't adoption an answer

I do not understand why someone like Dr. Phil doesn't let these girls know about adoption.  I was adopted and although I don't know them, am eternally grateful to the birth parents that gave me up because I have had a good life.  Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you have to keep the baby.  Adoption would allow the mother to get back following the path she should have been on in the first place.  It will give some couple out there the opportunity to love and parent a child they have no doubt longed for.  And it will give that baby a better chance at having a stable, emotionally nurturing and responsible home life.  Shame on your show for not encouraging that option for these girls and for encouraging them to put their baby's future and well being first.  Especially in the situation where the father can't even manage to suport his own daughter through this - she's not the first child to make the mistake and not the only one to 'get caught'.  Children deserve to be loved unconditionally just because they breathe - give them that chance and encourage adoption!

06/26 Teens Having Babies

Quote From: alexkon

More and more unplanned children will have to grow up without a good life so long as this continues.

The law should give a man the right to decide if he wants the child.

If he doesn't want the child, the mother will be mandating the child to exist for her own purposes only.

That is evil and the mother should be punished!

EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO HAVE 2 LOVING PARENTS who can support and provide for the child.

You have any idea how many foster children wish they had a normal life?

This is also EXTREMELY costly to all of us taxpayers.

Are you advocating that in the event of a pregnancy, the man should have the right to insist upon an abortion if he doesn't want the child? Seriously?

Teens having babies

If a girl is not happy at home she will always turn to someone else for love or what she thinks is love somewhere else.  So the best way to stop teens having babies is to be a loving involved parent.

06/26 Teens Having Babies

That 14 yr old should actually spend some time with a young parent. Live with them for a week to actually experience what they go though. The stories she told to various people really bothered me, especially about the "babies" father commiting suicide.
My younger sister got pregnant when she was 14. Almost  2 years ago to the day my nephews father, whom she was no longer with, commited suicide. Then less then 6 months later her boyfriend also commited suicide.
My nephew will now grow up with no memories of his father because he was 1 3/4 years old when it happened.
She really needs to understand the meaning of her words when she tells such stories.
