Imagine standing in front of a mirror and seeing an obese person staring back at you. Now imagine that this person looking back at you actually weighs only 60 pounds. Dr. Phil takes a look inside the mind of an anorexic and bulimic 28-year-old named Aimee, whose frame is so fragile after years of deprivation, doctors have said she has the bones of a 90-year-old woman. Her bulimia is so extreme, she vomits up to 150 times a day and by evening, sees blood. What dark secret from Aimee’s childhood could have set her on this path to self-destruction? And is she too far gone, or can she come back from her downward spiral before it’s too late? To answer these and other critical questions, Dr. Phil calls on his team of medical experts, The Doctors: Dr. Lisa Masterson, an OB/GYN; family therapist Dr. Tara Fields; pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears; plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon; and E.R. physician Dr. Travis Stork. Plus, Dr. Phil invites a previous guest who was starving for perfection to share her story. Will her personal triumph inspire Aimee to believe that recovery is within reach? Plus The Doctors address teen obesity. What's at stake in this new generation's battle of the bulge? Get in on the conversation!

Liz,

I went to highschool with Aimee and I was just shocked and heart broken when I saw her.  I had no idea.  I wasn't close friends with her, but I did have classes with her and was in the same grade as me.   My old classmates and I are hoping a close friend or family member will start a support group for her on Facebook.  Many of us want to let her know that we care about her, and we are hoping she will recover.  We want to support her through this process and we want her to know that she is loved by many people.

I am glad to hear that the Dr. Phil experience was amazing for both her and Pat.  Thank you for the update.

I also wanted to add quickly to Jennifer......Jennifer, you looked amazing!  I am so proud of you!!!!

Sincerely,   Karin W.

Thank you.  It has been a long, difficult journey but well worth it to have my health back!

Jennifer

Dr Phil you are tops for getting Aimee this far We just found out Aimee is from very near to us in another town and our hearts and prayers are with her and her family. It will be a long road to recovery but at least there is HOPE without hope there is no future.. so we all hope you will get on the road to recovery together with your family who have never given up on you They are to be praised for that. We will surely keep you in our thoughts and prayers and will stay in touch via this medium to see how you are doing.. God Bless you all..

questions about the show

I noticed Amiee had a wedding ring on. Where is her husband and what role does he play in this? Also, does Aimee have a job? Does her mother let her sit around and binge and purge all day? Does her mother buy the food if Aimee doesn't work? I know the disease is much deeper than this, but are the family members making it easier for her? Is Aimee like that child in the grocery store throwing a tantrum so Mommy gives in to shut her up?

Some messages wonder about men having this disease... Oh yes they do, and it is found often within the gay community.

To Aimee

My heart goes out to you.  I was once in your shoes, not to the extent that you are.  I wouldn't eat for days.  That was 18 yrs ago.  Sometimes it bothers me still.  You need to listen to the people who will help you.  Even when you think they are wrong, just do what they tell you.  You can do this.  If I did, anyone can.  It isn't an easy disorder to over come, it might take years!  But remember they are there to help you.  You are such a beautiful person and my heart aches for you to be going thru this.  I saught out help and it took me many a visits before I would believe the people that were trying to help me.  Like I mentioned, sometimes I struggle but I remember that I am a good person, that I am worth it and that I can do this and reach out and help others as well.  I hope we get updates on your progress.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers,  I'm counting on you!  I'm glad you reached out to Dr. Phil.  If anyone can help you HE can!

I think if you haven't had an eating disorder, than you don't understand.  You can try to understand, but it isn't the same thing.  I have one and it is so hard to stop.  It is with you all the time.  Everytime you eat or think.  I am still struggling and it is so exhausting and time consuming and my heart goes out to Aimee.  I wish I had all the support she has.  But I don't.  I have been to counseling and it helped for awhile. Not for good though.  I'm working on it.  Day by Day.  So Aimee, if you read this, your in my prayers and thoughts.  There is alot of people out there that are in the same boat as you are.  So please really try. You have been given a good opportunity to be on the Dr. Phil show and where he is sending you.  So Good Luck.
I too have walked this horrible walk.  Please keep going to your counselors.  It too took me years to over come and I still have "flash backs".  My prayers are with you as well.

DIET ADS

THAT POOR CHILD SHOWS WHAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN SOCIETY PROMOTES THIN PEOPLE AS BEAUTIFUL....   I WAS DISAPPOINTED WHEN THE COMMERCIALS ON THAT SHOW  WERE FOR DIET PLANS (2) AND BARIATRIC SURGERY.  I REALIZE THAT YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER WHAT LOCAL STATIONS DECIDE ABOUT COMMERCIALS, BUT THIS WAS MORE THAN A LITTLE IRONIC.

where's her father?

I realize it would upset her and wasn't the information you wanted to cover on the show but where is her father now? doesn't he need to take some responsibility and be a part of her recovery and come to counseling, what about the boys who molested her do they just walk?
