Could a grave danger be lurking in your home? If you believe the headlines, you know that catching the Superbug can have deadly consequences, but should you be concerned? How can you spot the danger, and what can you do to stay safe? Dr. Phil gets to the bottom of these questions and others. Melissa's son, Mark, was just 13 when he went to the hospital and wound up with MRSA, also known as the Superbug. Learn about Melissa’s tragic loss and why she thinks her son’s death could have been prevented. Then, 19-year-old Stephanie has been battling the Superbug for almost a year. Get a firsthand account of her experience with the disease, and find out what advice her doctor gave her that has Dr. Phil shocked and concerned. Even doctors aren’t immune to the Superbug. Dr. Drew O’Neal had an accident while on vacation, and what happened next changed his life forever. He shares his valuable insights as both doctor and patient. Plus, two years ago, Glen was your average sophomore playing on his high school football team -- until he contracted the Superbug right from the team’s locker room. Find out what important lessons he learned that could help protect you and your children from the disease. And renowned pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears weighs in with the latest information and shows off products to keep on hand that could save your life. Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Apparently it is worse than everyone thinks...because my husband was told back in Nov. 07 that his head was infected with the superbug...and was given no medication.  Then in Feb. 08 I had to return him to the urgent care and again was told his culture came back positive.  He was then given Doxycycline Hyclate and was given a 20 day supply.  According to the doctors here in AZ, we all that live in Az are carriers and was also told that it has been around for at least 5 years.  It was until kids started dying  did it come into the news.  Now we just go day to day hoping that that sore does not return.  According to my husband he didn't become infected until after they did a minor plastic surgery on his finger from a bite of a brown recluse.  Here in AZ. the doctor's do not seem to think that it isn't as bad as we are hearing about on the news...My husband is only 40 yrs. old and we are newlyweds and I am hoping for a very long life with him and I will as long as he is on his prescription but what happen when the medication expires???

I have had MRSA for 3 years

I  have had MRSA for three years and still  have not gotten a  real answer.  I am like the Young lady on the show with the knots under the arm.  I am very scared about what is happening bc in December I was very sick with a high fever and had surgery for the knot under my arm.  It seems to get worse every time I have a new place pop up.  It would be nice if I could get a straight answer and get some help.  What worries me most is that I have Three year old special needs twin boys that can get infected by me.  I have been very diligent about keeping my home clean and my wounds clean and they have not contracted it yet.  My biggest fear is that they will get it even with what I do keep it contained.  I just wish that it was taken more seriously than it has been.

Patented product that kills MRSA

I just had to share this information with all of  the Dr. Phil viewers.  There is a product  that is FDA approved, owned and  patented by an amazing herb company that has been proven to kill MRSA in the body and on surfaces.  It is available online and is very inexpesive.  It works for over 100 pathogens and has been proven, according to the patent, to reverse antibiotic resistence.  It is even more effective and perfectly safe to be taken in conjunction with antibiotics.  This product, called Silver Shield has saved many lives already from MRSA, malaria, Avian Flu and many more serious conditions.  I have been using Silver Sheid for several years and will NEVER  be without it on hand.  I keep a spray bottle in the diaper bag which I use for spraying my  hands and the children's for 4 hours of germ protection, much better than the alcohol based gels.  It can be used for so many things and it is completely non-toxic, can be taking preventatively and is great for children.  Silver Shield is truly a miracle of technology.  I only wish that the guests on the show today knew about Silver Shield.  They could have been spared so much agony.  To learn more you can visit www.mynsp.com/brandee. Silver Shield comes in a liquid and a gel form.  I have lots of information from the patent and information on multiple uses of this product.  I hope this helps you all as much as it has helped me and my  family and friends.  By the way, the US congress is aware of this product, but because it is owned by an herb company you will not see it in the news because the drug companies can't profit from it.  I'd be happy to give anybody more information.  I love this stuff and have seen amazing results with infections, wound healing, viruses etc.  For more info email me at brandee@mynsp.com.  God Bless!

04/01 The Superbug

Thanks so much Dr. Phil for putting the word out.  I have had it as well as my 2 year old with Down's. He is scheduled for surgery in June and I never thought of him taking anti-biotics to help prevent it. If I hadn't seen your show, I would have never thought about  him possibly getting it again. To Many people don't know about MRSA. Thank you so much for telling me more about MRSA than what any DR. has.

Father died- "sensitive machine 'would have saved dad.

So grateful Dr. Phil made this topic for show.  Had this been brought to our attention  m father did not have to die last yesr.  I'm from Cleveland Ohio.  My Dad and my cousins wifesdad BOTH DIED SAME THING SAME WEEKFAIRVIEW HOSPITAL.  We learned too late there ARE ONLY THREE PLACES /HOSPITAL that have a SENSITIVE MACHINE'  it checks to find which antibiotics will work.  Hospitals are Cleveland Clinic (downtown ONLY-sister hospitals do NOT have the machine and they do NOT send the bloodtests downtown Cleve clinic) Suma and I forgot the third.  People should check in advance what hospitals in their area have this machine so they don't risk their lives by going to a hospital that does not use this machine.   Without the machine the hospitals waste time changing antibotics trying to see which one will work.  Dad was at Fairview Hospital (sister hosp of Cleve clinic) they NEVER sent his blood to the downtown clinic to be tested on this', SENSITIVE MACHINE'and' it cost my dad his life !!!!!

Dad's only signs were being lathargic (tired often).   He went to the doctor and they did not catch it.  By the time they did it was too late.  He was on drip antibiotics at home first week (also BAD idea-wasted valuable time).

I Am Way Ahead Of My Time

I am a native indian and cleanliness is always been something important. My mother taught me to always wash my hands, take paper in a public bathroom to put on the toilet and wash my hands and take a paper towel to open the door.

I always had lysol in my bagage and at home. I was a entertainer so I kept Lysol with me all the time and sprayed the sheets, the dressers, the toilet, the bath, the sinks, well everything I could spray because I was taught that where there is public there is germs.

So I started laughing when I saw on your show, Lysol . I always carry hand disenfection in my purse. I always carry a small can of Lysol and spray the toilets when I go in public. Even at home.

I also take oil of oregano with olive oil every morning..it kills any bacteria and even the super bug. Yep, that is right..it kills the super bug. since I have been doing that I have not had a flu since 3 years and as soon as I have a hint of a sore throat, I take more and it's gone.

I disenfect all over in my house. People used to laugh at me and my cleanliness and my Lysol..well, am sure if they watched your show, they no longer laughing now.

Any meat I buy I marinate with lime juice to kill any bacteria that may be on the meat. I don't travel without my Lysol, my oil of oregano and Mother Apple Cider to soak vegetables and even on the meat to kill whatever that may be left even if I washed well..and I never drink water without putting a teaspoon of Mother Apple Cider if I am travelling..so no tourista and danger of getting a dangerous bacteria in my body.

I even rinse my floors with vinegar which is excellent to kill bacteria and safe for animals.  Sometimes I use pure lemon juice in the water to rinse  my floors.

I even buy a spray to kill any bacteria before I cut my food and which is not dangerous to our health.

Everyday I pour some peroxide in the toilet and wipe the toilet with peroxide too.  I was always told that I took too much precaution but your show today proved me right.

My motto is..Trust Me I'm Always Right lolll and 99.9 % of the time a show like yours or on the news prove me right.

Example: I always had my passport up to date and in my purse and I would tell people that one day to cross to the US we would need our passport..and sure enough we do now. I haven't been travelling so I didn't renew it this year but I will because it is also the best ID that you can give when you need one.

Example: People always said to me when I was in my twenties..Why you keep your headlights on in bright daylight all the time? I said, *I noticed that the buses always had their headlights on and I figured that it was for safety for we can see them better, so I asked a driver and sure enough that was the reason, so I always left my lights on in the daytime and told everyone..one day it will be automatically lit in cars as it is a safety matter..and yep..years later..lights automatically go on in cars..

I am a logical thinker, so if I see something that isn't the norme, I wonder why and ask, then I apply it to myself.

So what my mother taught me to always wash my hands even after shaking hands with someone and always try not to shake hands if there is the flu going around and of course take her potion to keep me safer while all others are sick.

I am so in the habit of doing it since a kid that it's second nature to me and automatically by Lysol and antibacterial gel to carry in my purse. It happens sometimes you can't wash your hands for one reason or another, so out I whip my antibacterial gel.

If I can get my hands on paper seat couvers..I have that also in my purse, or else I wash the toilet seat with soap and spray the toilet seat with Lysol and then put toilet paper on it. Better be safe than sorry..I also lift the cover and spray it and inside the bowl. A little squirt on the faucets is a good thing too and the door knob.

I am not shy to tell people who go to the public facilities and not wash their hands what they think they are doing!| I shame them into washing their hands. If I see an employee in a toilet and not wash their hands, I go right to the manager and tell him..you employee hasn't washed her or his hands after using the toilet, so I am not coming in here to eat anymore.  Trust me..it gets told.

I always taught my kids to wash the bathtub once they were finished in respect for each other as it is important that the tub is clean.

I have been also turning off electricity to save. Friends laughed at me because they said it wouldn't show any difference in the city..I said, you will see it will happen .  I unplug everything in my house I don,t use often, the toaster, washer, dryer, lights. I have been saving electricity all my life..taught by my mother who always said we must treat all things with respect and not abuse it.

I'm so happy..that I am right .. and who knows what else in the future I am doing..will show me am right. lolllllll

It can attack anyone

I am a 34 year housewife with 3 children. About 8 months ago I discovered a boil on my butt area which I thought was an ingrown hair.  I did try to pop it and deal with it myself until it became extemely painful. (I was 9 months pregnant at the time and a week before my scheduled c-section)  I went to the hospital and the doctors cut it open, drained and packed it with antibiotics.  (forgot to take a culture) Next week I go into the hospital for  my c-section.  After being home for 3 days I begin to feel pain in my shin. I call my OB and they say it's not their problem, call an orthopedist.  I waited till my follow up apointment with the OB a few days later and complained again.  Finally, that day she sent me to get an x-ray, right after that emergency MRI and then admitted into the hospital. All this in a 8 hour period. I was hooked up to IV's until that sent me home with a pic line in my arm to get IV antibiotics at home for 3 months.  They knew I had an infection but did not know what kind.  Two weeks later, I told my infectious disease doctor my leg was getting worse. He didn't think so by the blood work.  I decided to get a second opinion. This doctor sent me to an orthopedic surgeon who decided to cut open my shin and find out what the exact infection was.  I had surgury on my leg, they took cultures and found out the infection was MRSA and the first antibiotic wasn't working. The infection had spread from my butt area with the boil, into my blood and into my bones.  They changed the medicine and I was feeling better in a couple of days. I continued IV antibiotics for 3 months the took oral medicine for 2 weeks. Since then I have had 2 more cases. I have been in the hospital 3 times in 6 months.  The last time the boil was in my nose and grew in 8 hours.  I have medicine in my cabinet to take soon as I see any kind of boil because it becomes so serious so QUICK.  I fear for my family. Noone knows how I got it. My immune system was weaker because I was pregnant. My husband works in an Athletic Department at a University and goes to a gym 5 days a week. I am no longer allowed to wash his clothes. I use LYSOL on everything and bleach what ever I can.  The doctors tried a cleansing on my husband and I. We took medicine, put medicine in our nose, cut our nails off and washed our whole body with surgical soap for 2 weeks. The doctors say it might help, but they don't know. I can get it tomorrow or I can get again in 30 years. I have CA-MRSA, which is MRSA from the community.  I try to be clean do the best I can and Pray it doesn't happened again.

Umm... Comment on a Comment from Dr.Phil

Now I dont really know how to say this but the comment Dr. Phil made about the young lady's delayed treatment kindve annoyed me. I have many family members that are in the medical system and they have told me that this is normal. I would have to say a infectious expert would take alot of schooling and thus there would be very few of them. As a result of this they would be very busy. I got an example of this from my own life with my mother being diagnosed with breast cancer. It took almost 4 months between her diagnose and surgery to her actual treatment. I dont mean to be rude but if you have a serious disease of some kind dont blame the medical system. They dont have enough personel as it is, blame the people that drag their kids to the emergency room when they have a sniffel. Dont play the "disease a week game" or you simply make it so that people with HIV, MRSA or whatever cannot get the care they need.

It's Not A Virus!

At the beginning of your show, this infection was described as a virus.  It's not a virus; but, a bacteria.  Viruses are not treated with antibiotics, as they do not respond.    If viruses could be killed with antibiotics, AIDS would not be a death sentence to so many of its victims.  Some bacteria, on the other hand, can be treated with antibiotics.  ..................  I am a health teacher; and, feel that the term: Virus is used to describe every microorganism that causes illness, way too often.  The public  needs to become educated in this respect; and, I am surprised that this was not corrected on your show.................By the way, I love your show; and, feel that in the area of relationship education, your are TOPS..................Celia Kiffor
