Could a grave danger be lurking in your home? If you believe the headlines, you know that catching the Superbug can have deadly consequences, but should you be concerned? How can you spot the danger, and what can you do to stay safe? Dr. Phil gets to the bottom of these questions and others. Melissa's son, Mark, was just 13 when he went to the hospital and wound up with MRSA, also known as the Superbug. Learn about Melissa’s tragic loss and why she thinks her son’s death could have been prevented. Then, 19-year-old Stephanie has been battling the Superbug for almost a year. Get a firsthand account of her experience with the disease, and find out what advice her doctor gave her that has Dr. Phil shocked and concerned. Even doctors aren’t immune to the Superbug. Dr. Drew O’Neal had an accident while on vacation, and what happened next changed his life forever. He shares his valuable insights as both doctor and patient. Plus, two years ago, Glen was your average sophomore playing on his high school football team -- until he contracted the Superbug right from the team’s locker room. Find out what important lessons he learned that could help protect you and your children from the disease. And renowned pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears weighs in with the latest information and shows off products to keep on hand that could save your life. Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

A question about superbug and animals

I live with 3 dogs (2 rescued)  young and one old poodle..and a ferral cat...I didn't see all the show but am concerned about if animals can pick up the bug and pass it on...I recently had a tussle with black widow spiders in my pantry..got bit on the finger between the first and second joint of the left ring finger and suffered feverous head.. cold hands.. numbness in the fingers... had a bad fall skating the next night and injured my glutes to the extent of internal clotting hardness..went to the VA and was given antibiotics...the bite had a white head which recurred 3x the third showing 2 brown dots..like fang marks..I am on Neurontin..and tramadol so that made the bite not so bad...it seemed to clear up and I had an exterminator spray the house and surounding area...am better now but heard mention of confusion over spider bite..I guess I was lucky...is the clean light a regular black light??  If so I have one for checking dog and cat..filtered water...on carpet etc.  I am just concerned about infection from my pets..do I need to worry??

Try Tea Tree Oil for MRSA

Tea tree oil is a natural antibiotic and works great topically applied to bacterial infections of the skin.  Try tea tree oil on MRSA.  It's my understanding that over-using oral antibiotics, antibacterial soaps and now UV lights????all destroy good bacteria and lead to stronger strains of drug-resistant harmful bacteria.  When are doctors going to do what's right and stop prescribing drugs that are harmful to people and entire communities?

The Superbug MRSA is a nasty one

I know this one hit home for my brotherinlaw went in for some surgery at a big hospital in Gainesville fl, we wont name any names. But he was supposed to only be in there for about 4-5 days and with all of the complacations from the surgery he also wound up with MRSA on top of every thing else and wound up being there about 4-5 months this past year. The so called super bug which is super staff infection MRSA comes from simply being dirty it can be from the doctors not changing their scrubs, nurses not changing gloves or dirty equipment. I know that everthing I went through with my wife and her breast cancer I feel like I am a better nurse than most that I met in this place it is sad that when I told a nurse there that I would not even bring my dog into the place she agreed with me. Any how I found an article on one of my news letters that I get and checked it out so here it is for you to check out to all I know is that it works and that is all that counts here is the information that I came up with and it was well worth the research.

MRSA faces defeat from wild flower

By Ailín Quinlan
A WILD flower growing in West Corkcould hold the key to wiping out the deadly superbug MRSA, it has emerged.

Researchers at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) haverevealed the bright yellow flower known as inula helenium kills the lethal bug, which is resistant to some of the strongest antibiotics on the market.

Inula helenium is a tall plant which grows wild in westCork and blossoms in late summer. It’s one of two herbs involvedin a €35,000 research project carried out at CIT. The other, pulsatillavulgaris, also proved highly effective against the potentially fatal MRSA bug.

Extracts from both plants weretested against a group of 300 staphylococci including MRSA and inula heleniumproved 100% effective against the superbug.

The trials were carried out by postgraduate studentSusan O’Shea of CIT’s biological sciences department as part of a two-yearresearch project, under the supervision of Dr Brigid Lucey, a senior medicalscientist with the microbiology department of Cork University Hospital and DrLesley Cotter, a lecturer in biomedical sciences at CIT.

Here is some more info related to the above.

http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/DVH/HerbsWho/0,3923,4099%7CInula%2Bhelenium,00.html

Inula helenium
Scientific Name: Elecampane
Other Names: Alant, Elf Dock, Elfwort, Horse-elder, Horseheal, Pushkarmoola, Scabwort, Velvet Dock, Wild Sunflower, Yellow Starwort

Who is this for?

Uses

Traditionally, elecampane has been taken to treatrespiratory conditions such as asthma and bronchitis because chemicalsin it cause mucus to become thinner. Consequently, congestion in thelungs may be lessened and the elimination of excess mucus may beeasier. Elecampane may also help to decrease coughing.

Because it contains mucilage, elecampane has been used to relievegastrointestinal irritation, as well. Mucilage is a natural gummysubstance that does not dissolve in water, but forms a thick, gooeymass when exposed to fluids. Like other mucilage-containing substances, elecampane swells up and becomes slick when it is exposed to fluids. The resulting slippery material coats and soothes irritated tissue inthe mouth, throat, stomach, or intestines.

Elecampane is a source of inulin (also known as fructosan), acarbohydrate-based fiber that is broken down and absorbed in the coloninstead of in the upper digestive tract where most other foods aredigested. Also unlike most other carbohydrates, which are converted toglycogen and stored temporarily in the liver, inulin is converted intofatty acids that spread out to many different tissues in the body.Inulin is often substituted for other carbohydrates in food productsfor individuals with diabetes because it provides a sweet taste withoutcausing drastic changes in blood sugar levels. As shown in a fewlaboratory and animal studies, it may have a general lowering effect onblood sugar levels, as well. Additionally, inulin is thought to protectbeneficial bacteria in the colon while suppressing harmful bacteria. Therefore, inulin may help prevent bowel diseases, including coloncancer. However, research in humans is limited for all of thesepossible uses.

I bought some of this for my brotherinlaw and for my wife and I know it works well even I took some after being up there around people in that place and if you need to know where to get it go to WindRiver Herbs they were the best I found and I will be a long time customer of theirs that is for sure. We all know there are cures out there for a lot of things but between the insurance companies and the government they dont stand to make money on natural cures lord forbid they ok them. But they do work and work well. Godbless and take care. cw

Survivor of MRSA in the spine

Approximately three years ago I contracted MRSA in my spine.  To this day I have not been able to identify were I actually contracted this from as you see it was traced all the way down to the lowest pocket of my spine.  The infection traveled three quarters up my spine before anyone figured out what I had.  I have had five laminectomies to remove the infection/bacteria from my spine.  I had been in the hospital for 4 months on a number of different antibiotics before one was found that worked on the bacteria but unfortunately made me violently ill.  I am today walking and doing fairly well.  I am suffering from pain alot and found out last week that I now have severe arthritis in the area that I was operated on.  And get this my doctor after 11 years has discharged me as his patient as he is no longer dealing with chronic pain.  What a medical crisis I am in now as I can get no one to take me as a patient all I hear is there is a three month waiting list or they are no longer taking patients.  I have been to three pain clinics to only hear that they can not help me either as I will have pain for the rest of my life.  I have come to speculate that  two years prior I had a hysterectomy and had a part of my incision that would not heal and that is when it all began as I was getting fevers alot and sick all the time.  No one could figure out what was wrong with me.  I was even sent to a psychiatrist because the doctors thought it was all in my head.  Well at the present time besides the back pain I am suffering from severe migraines and no one seems to be able to give me help with those either.  I am in the emergency room once to twice a week trying desperately to get help with the pain in my head.  My husband was at my bedside through every step until recently.  He thinks I am addicted to going to the hospital for pain meds. I want to believe this is not true as I was taking 160mg of Oxycontin and now only two extra strength vicodines.  Presently I only take arthritis Tylenol.  Its ok but I am couch bound as the pain gets to be more than I can handle.  I am open to my husbands thoughts but I really don't believe it is medication seeking.  I hurt sooo bad.  I have all the aura with the migraines from vomiting to light sensitivity to not being able to listen to any kind of noise.  Its just awful.  But I make the most of the the days that I do have that are good.  And I will not give up my faith in God that I will one day be over all this and have my life back again.  I was so surprised to see how many people have been infected with this bacterial infection mrsa.  I thank you Dr. Phil for bringing this to the publics attention.  I would never want anyone to experience anything close to what I have with this awful super-bug!!!!

Good information and advice!

Quote From: westcm1979

I am an RN working in a hospital.  I see MRSA on a daily basis.  'Nursing' staff has been catching the blame for spreading MRSA in the hospital setting.  However, the physicans do not dress out according to the recommendations with appropriate protective clothing and go from room to room without washing their hands.  When a patient is discharged that was infected with the superbug they are sent home without any precautions for the family .  The hospital rooms are cleaned and in a matter of an hour another patient is put in that room.  I agree this bug is not being handled with the care that is necessary.  However, from what I see on a daily basis, the bottom dollar is apparently more important than patient awareness.  I see many patients that are infected with this bug from the medical field that is, in theory, there to prevent harm.  My advice to everyone when you enter the hospital door:  Wash your hands for  15 seconds ,at least, with a good lather;  tell everyone that enters your room to do the same thing;  question your MD about your risk; keep all wounds covered; DO NOT think you cannot be infected.  The medical staff works for you.  Demand excellence.
I commented on this in a previous post (precautions not followed) - I wish that I would have added that it was Drs. who entered my mom's room without taking precautions far more than it was nurses.  When the nurse who discovered my mom's case told me she was worried about it and had sent a sample out, I thought she was being an alarmist...I was so grateful for her aftterward, and I never found out her name or saw her again.  I wish I would have tracked her down to thank her for her persistence.

I hope this helps

Quote From: grammyntn

my husband was advised in January of 2008 that he had MRSA and than later when I questioned about this I was advised that he had it but did"nt and that he was not contagious as long as we practiced good hygeine. My husband has been very ill since than and only recently started turning around. Is this common for patients to b told this and would he have months of being very ill rapid weight loss and now slowly be getting better. Hope someone can advise...
HI the only advice I can give you is for my experience back in 2002 everyone is affected different have your husband checked again make sure they swab his nose and his butt.  I was in the hospital two months ago it took three cultures to find out I still had MRSA.  I also told that I will always have a bug make sure that the doctor you see is an infection specialist.  I hope this helps a little god bless.

Dead Husband from MRSA / SEVERE SEPSI SEPTIC SHOCK

I am so glad this subject of staph infections, MRSA.... SEPSIS, SEPTIC SHOCK was aired today. I can only hope that more news shows, talk shows, and newspapers start discussing MRSA.  MRSA very often leads to SEVERE SEPSIS / SEPTIC SHOCK, which is a VERY DEADLY INFECTION. My heart goes out to Melissa, who shared today her experience of loosing her 13 year old son, Mark.

For QWARRIOR6 and the individuals who feel that our society should not get alarmed over SEPSIS......... and for the few that posted today and are in the health care field, my message to THOSE INDIVIDUALS is perhaps you need to GO BACK TO MEDICAL SCHOOL OR NURSING SCHOOL.  I don't know what rock these individuals have been living under or what world these individuals have been living in, but it certainly has not been our current world. MRSA, which can easily lead to SEVERE SEPSIS WHICH IS DEADLY, DEADLY, DEADLY!!!!!!! Between 33% and 50% of patients with sepsis, DIE !!!! The death rate is much higher if the patient has had any pre existing conditions. A drug called XIGRIS, had been the only new drug in the past 25 years or so, that the FDA has approved to treat SEPSIS. The death rate number as quoted on Dr. Phill today is much, much greater.

DISEASE                                             NUMBER OFDEATHS

Severe Sepsis *(Augus of 2001)                         250,000.00

AM (Minino 2002)                                       193,000.00

Lung Cancer (Minino, 2002)                              57,000.00

Breast Cancer (Minino, 2002)                             42,000.00

*Angus DC, Linde-Zwirble WT, Lidicker J, et al. Epidemiology of severe sepsis in the United States: analysis of incidence, outcome, and associated costs of care. Crit Care Med. 2001;29(7):1303-1310.   Much of this information can be obtained through the CDC. OR go to XIGRIS.COM, or to Eli Lilly & Co website.   Some may ask why my little Emotions are set @ angry for this topic, well her is my own sad story!!!   Almost 3 years ago, in July of 2005, my husband was often outdoors in our Ohio heat. As a result of being outside in the heat, he became dehydrated. Dehydration can lead to many dangerous things going on in our body. On the evening of July 24th, 2005, my husband's blood pressure dropped and I called the squad and the paramedics transported my husband to Mt. Carmel Hospital (west) in Columbus, Ohio. He was given IV's and fluids to rehydrate him. On July 26th, 2005, the discharge nurse came to his room, and he had to of course sign the necessary papers before leaving the hospital. The discharge nurse removed his IV from his right hand, at which point puss started seeping from the infused sight. Although I did not know it at that time, the discharge nurse called my husband's primary physician, a Dr. Phillip Stern, and informed Dr. Stern of the puss coming from the infused IV site. Dr. Stern's response.......RELEASE HIM ANYWAY. I have all the medical records from Mt. Carmel. The above is stated right in the medical records!!!!!   The next evening, on July 27th, my husband started running an extremely high fever, and his blood pressure drops again. So, once again I called the squad and the paramedics transferred my husband to Riverside Hospital in Col. Ohio, this time...... because it was the nearest.  He was placed on LIFE SUPPORT ON JULY 27TH, 2005 where he remained on LIFE SUPPORT until HIS DEATH, on AUGUST 31, 2005 @ 12:01 AM.  My husband was 45 years old.   It is still hard for me to wrap my brain around everything that happened. Went to Mt. Carmel on July 24th, discharged on July 26, and on life support  July 27th !!!!!!  He was given vancomycian, xigris, paralytics, and every other drug coming and going. He was also given 12 or 13 units of blood....., not only was his white blood count destroyed, but one of the little side affects of Xigris... gee, it can cause internal bleeding!!! Am I angry, you damn right I'M ANGRY.   SEPSIS causes MULTI ORGAN FAILURE!!!!   It will destroy everything from, kidneys, lungs, liver, eyes, brain, etc!!!   SEPSIS SHOWS NO MERCY!!!!   For the few that do survive sepsis, they endure months and months as an inpatient in some rehab facility, just trying to learn to walk again, and do everyday routine things.   Every single hospital through out the United States should be mandated to report all MRSA.... Severe Sepsis related deaths to the CDC.  Our society was not made aware of or education of AIDS until AIDS became an epidemic. Our government will probably once again not take the necessary measures to inform our society as a whole of the consequences of this DEADLY INFECTION, until it too reaches epidemic rates   Education, Education, Education, on MRSA, which leads to Sepsis, is the only way we can learn about the infection and the prevention of the same!!!!   I have never been lawsuit happy. I did try to sue over my husband's death, but .... Ohio passed a new torte reform law several years ago which has made it virtually impossible to be compensated for my loss of EVERYTHING. Not that any dollar amount could ever replace my husband, but for some of these medical personnel, they need to be hurt badly in the pocketbook!!! Perhaps then they will stop trying to sweep this crap under the rug!!   I made sure to take pictures of my husband while he was on life support, which show the nasty hole in his right hand from were the infection first started. I also had our funeral director, of Novak Funeral Home in Col. Ohio  to take pictures of my husband before he was embalmed, which show just how badly MRSA can eat away at a person's body.  Our funeral director stated that in all the years he has been in business, that he has never in his career seen anything like my husband's arm.    For those of you who care to view these four photos, please visit, www.annfitch.shutterfly.com   Please keep in mind, that these pictures are very graphic.   Thanks for listening.

To Debra

Quote From: silvert1

I am a 50 year old 5 year breast cancer survivor who has been 'battling' MRSA since at the very least Sept, 2007.  On Aug 29,2007, I had a bilateral mastectomy (left side recurrence, right side prophylactic) followed by an immediate DIEP reconstruction, where my own belly fat was used to build new breasts.  I was on the table for 10+ hours, and while that was long and difficult, including a spell when I literally quit breathing 2 days later, the worst was yet to come.  My abdoominal incision went from 1' behind hip to 1' behind hip, long, long scar, but my belly fat was gone.  Within 10 days of that surgery, my abdominal incision began to open up and 'weep', drain, so we went back to doc.  Doc obtained culture of oozing stuff, and it came back positive for MRSA.  By that time, my incision was literally opening up and spliting like a zipper being unzipped.  Immediately back to doc, who 'snipped' the last tissue holding my abdominal wound together, right there in the office, my husband almost fainted.  The doc did this in order to allow the wound to drain and 'heal from the inside out'.  At this point, the open wound was 8' long (side to side) 1 1/2 ' deep, and 2 1/2 ' wide). After weeks of looking in the mirror at my new 'bloody smile' below my belly button, washing and rinsing and packing it daily with fresh gauze, then applying sanitary pads to cover the wounds...I was worn out.  However, the wound did gradually heal to the point that on Dec 5, 2007 I had a 'revision surgery' in order to fix and tuck some minor problems around my new breasts, build nipples, and close the remaining hole in my belly.  I was loaded up with Vancomyacin prior to that surgery, but in less than 5 days, my belly became hot, red, swollen, bloated, and the redness continued up my torso, and down my right hip and leg.  Immediately went back to doc, (this is a large metroplex hospital I'm talking about), and he admitted me.  For the next 8 days I was on IV antibiotics consisting of vancomyacin, clindamyacin, and another one IV I can't remember, plus oral bactrim.  I almost died.  When the doc 'lanced' my swollen abdomen on the 2nd day of hospitalization, approximately 2 cups of fluid and pus rushed out of my belly onto me, my bed, and totally surprised my doc.  That incision was less than 1/4 inch.  When I was finally sent home 6 days later, it was with home health and an incision that had widened and spread to approximately 4' long, and 2' wide, again having to heal from the inside out.  This time my insurance paid for home health nurses to take care of my wound daily, check my vitals, etc.  On Feb 14, 2008, I had the belly closed AGAIN, and while it has remained closed, I have a huge swelling just underneath the site, with obvious fluid buildup, but now everyone is afraid to drain my belly, for fear.  My family (extended, not immediate) treat me like a leper, who is death walking in the door.  I absolutely have to have an entire left elbow joint replacement, but until this MRSA is declared gone, I remain in pain, no surgeon will touch me, and I'm on pain meds to get me through day to day.  I'm only 50.  I can't pick up my grandkids.  This is what MRSA has done to me.

Debra

My heart goes out to you! I will pray for your recovery.

I would like to ask everyone here a question, something for them to ponder, and also tell you about my experience with MRSA.

First...you had a tummy tuck. This is a procedure that I would have LIKED to have had done, but due to the danger of MRSA, I will remain the way I am, tummy and all. I am not laying blame on you. I want to point something out to the general public. How many have had a cosmetic procedure, like breast augmentation? How many of these people are young, perhaps in their teens, and how many are considering having a procedure done? THINK ABOUT THIS LADIES.....ANY time you go in for a procedure, cosmetic or otherwise (breast enlargement) IT IS SURGERY, and you risk getting MRSA. If that isn't enough, you risk GIVING MRSA TO YOUR FAMILY AND OTHERS!!!!!  YOU may be healthy and be able to shrug MRSA off, but what about if you expose, say, your mom who is older and not able to fight MRSA off?

I am diabetic. IDDM to be exact (insulin dependant diabetes mellitus). You may not think of a diabetic as having a compromised immune system, but some of us do. I happen to be one of the un-lucky one's.

In 1980 I gave birth to my second son. Within a few short weeks I fell sick, REALLY sick. I had two things wrong with me. I had gall stones, and I had contracted Hepatitis B. Hep B is not easy to get. It is contracted through sexual contact, or a blood source. I am not sure HOW I contracted it, but it has a long incubation period, and looking back, I am fairly sure that I contracted it at my doctors office when I was having a blood draw, and had to be re-stuck several times due to the in-experience of the person doing the draw (now I always ask for someone skilled in phlebotomy). I was sick, VERY sick for a few months. I had surgery to remove my gall bladder in late 1980 (while I was 6 weeks pregnant with my third son).

Flash forward to 2006. My 2 year old grand daughter had this pimple looking thing on her face. We were in the pool and I wanted to take her home and pop this ugly thing! If I touched it she would cry out in pain. Soon after my daughter got a painful pimple on her leg, In both instances the pimple burst open, and oozed for a few days. The lesion left a scar. In a few weeks, I noticed a pimple on my grand daughters backside. By then my daughter mentioned that her (now ex) boyfriend said he had the same pimple and his two young son's had lesions on their head. What ever this was, was now spreading from person to person. My daughter took herself and her daughter to the doctor. The tests came back positive for MRSA. I had no idea what this was, so I Googled it, and was frightened at what I read. Not only can MRSA spread, but it can turn into Necrotizing Facetious (speliing is incorrect, I'm sure) FLEASH EATTING DISEASE! My daughter begged her Boyfriend to take the kids to the doctor. He refused saying he did not have enough money to take them (a long story). By then my daughter ended the relationship, but we are sure the boyfriends son's picked up MRSA from their mother who is an escort. My daughter and grand daughter had several outbreaks over the next year.

Currently, my daughter and grand daughter have had no more break outs.

Last November, I had emergency surgery, an appendectomy. Much to my distress, I was released from the hospital within 13 hours of having the surgery. As I mentioned, I am diabetic. My glucose reading going in to surgery was 500, normal is under 100. Within two days post-op, I was feeling feverish and had a lump in and around one of the incision sites (I had laparoscopic surgery). It was inflamed and tender, hell it downright HURT. I went to the doctor, he checked my out and told me I was fine, even though I was running a fever and had this lump, which by now was a mound. Two days after that, I had my husband rush me back to the doctors office. I had a massive infection that he had to drain. It must have looked pretty bad as the nurse that was assisting him, backed up and looked faint when the doctor cut into me. From that time in early December, until March, the following year, the doctor had to re-cut my wound every other week, to "allow the wound to heal from the bottom (inside) up (outside). Mind you, I knew about MRSA. I had seen it. Doctor told me that the culture taken on my wound showed E-COLI.

I was given antibiotic....pills and liquid.

I was very sick during this entire time. Every couple of days I would have terrible nausea and vomiting. I could get very little food down me, a few crackers and a bit of soup chased down with a few sips of 7-up or ginger-ale. In a few months time, I lost 50 pounds! I wound up in the emergency room to be hooked up to IVs twice. My blood pressure skyrocketed because I was so dehydrated. I had a CAT scan that showed nothing. I had my blood tested.  My primary asked if I had been out of the country. I had not been to Mexico in many months, but gave a stool sample to test for parasites. I was sent to a wound care specialist. I was till taking antibiotics, that just about killed me because I was nauseated and vomiting.

Finally, my primary said, and I quote..."if I didn't know better, I would think you had something called MRSA" ! Welllll DUHHHHH, I told you ALL I had been exposed to it many months earlier!

Slowly I got better...slowwwly I felt like a human again.

To this day, I do not know who or where I picked MRSA up. Was it from my daughter and grand daughter? We are almost compulsive about keeping things clean. I use a combination of alcohol and water in a spray bottle that I clean sinks, toilets, basins, floors, counter tops, etc. I use bleach IN my tub and toilet to clean them. We use wipes to clean the parts of a shopping basket we come into contact with. We wash hands all the time.

Did I get it at home...........OR, did I get it IN the hospital, OR did I get it at the doctors office? After all, he DID have gloves on, BUT he did not wear a mask on his face! If MRSA or step, staff is in most peoples noses, might it have come from my surgeon?

Just like years ago when I contracted Hep B, and recently MRSA, I have no one to blame, BUT, I will continue to be diligent with cleaning my surroundings. BTW, we wash our hands when we eat out BEFORE we eat, do you? I hope to GOD those who are preparing our food also wash their hands, but I fear...they don't.

So if you see a crazy woman, cleaning off a scooter and basket at your local wal Mart, stop by and say hello, it's probably me!

OH, I almost forgot. We used a combination of water and Prvidone Iodine in a 10 per cent solution to dry up the lesions. We kept them covered with a band aid, and made sure we washed our hands THOUROLY after we treated the spot.

Suffering From MRSA Right Now

I am a 30 year old female and I am suffering from MRSA right now. I was released from the hospital a week ago today. I was sent home with a PICC line and am being treated intravenously with Daptomycin for the next three weeks. I believe that I contracted MRSA from the hospital a month ago when I went to have a lump removed from underneath my right nipple. After many complications and a second procedure to clean out my wound, the doctor diagnosed me with MRSA and hospitalized me. My case was similar to Christine's. I was in an "isolation room" but only a very FEW of the hospital stafff adhered to the policy of gloves and gowns. I wasn't even told I was in isolation until a few days later. There were NO signs to alert anyone of the condition of my roommate and I. I only found out because I tried to leave the room to walk the hallway and was told I wasn't allowed.

I'm going to seek a second opinion in my case because I feel like my case is being treated very non-chalantly. It seems the only ones taking my case very seriously are my father and I. From watching the show today, I'm seeing that I'm not the only one having this problem with the hospital's and it staff's lack of concern for my situation. I'm now being crushed with medical bills from this whole ordeal and more to come and I have NO idea how I'm going to deal with them. I'm considering a lawsuit against the hospital for negligence and gave been told by some of the staff at the hospital that, with a good lawyer, I could possibly get a settlement.

Is anyone else considering a lawsuit that has MRSA or is currently involved in a MRSA lawsuit? I also would like any words of encouragement regarding this disease because, after watching the show today, I'm now more scared than ever. I actually broke down in tears today for the first time because I realized that this is something I may have to deal with for a long time or may never get rid of. I'm 30 years old and instead of being around friends, no one wants to be in my presence in fear of possibly contracting the infection from me. MRSA has really screwed up my life. I'm trying to keep my chin up and keep a positive attitude, but it's getting more and more diffictult. If you are currently suffering from MRSA or know someone who is, please share any positive stories you can because I really need them now.

Concerned Parent

I watched Dr. Phil today and was surprised about how our children are at risk in their schools.  I am concerned with how our schools are being cleaned.  Does anyone have any information as to what  schools are doing to prevent MRSA? I goggled MRSA today and found a company called BioShield www.bioshieldusa.com who  clean schools and prevent MRSA from reoccurring, has anyone else heard of type of cleaning process?
