Could a grave danger be lurking in your home? If you believe the headlines, you know that catching the Superbug can have deadly consequences, but should you be concerned? How can you spot the danger, and what can you do to stay safe? Dr. Phil gets to the bottom of these questions and others. Melissa's son, Mark, was just 13 when he went to the hospital and wound up with MRSA, also known as the Superbug. Learn about Melissa’s tragic loss and why she thinks her son’s death could have been prevented. Then, 19-year-old Stephanie has been battling the Superbug for almost a year. Get a firsthand account of her experience with the disease, and find out what advice her doctor gave her that has Dr. Phil shocked and concerned. Even doctors aren’t immune to the Superbug. Dr. Drew O’Neal had an accident while on vacation, and what happened next changed his life forever. He shares his valuable insights as both doctor and patient. Plus, two years ago, Glen was your average sophomore playing on his high school football team -- until he contracted the Superbug right from the team’s locker room. Find out what important lessons he learned that could help protect you and your children from the disease. And renowned pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears weighs in with the latest information and shows off products to keep on hand that could save your life. Join the discussion.

Thank You

Hello, I am a baccalaureate-prepared RN and may have some answers to your questions.  Many of us carry MRSA in certain parts of our body.  When it enters the blood, lungs, and certain parts of our skin, we are concerned.

Regarding your MRSA infection, it sounds as though your particular infection was community-acquired since you make no mention of prior hospitalizations leading up to your infection.  You will definitely want to share this information with your healthcare providers before the  because you may be at increased risk for hospital-acquired MRSA.  Also, your healthcare providers may want to take extra precautions while caring for you so as to not spread any infection should you still carry MRSA.  They may test your nares (nostrils) and your rectum for colonization of MRSA since it may still linger in these areas and may have spread from your leg.  Should your test come back positive, you will probably be placed in contact isolation and treated accordingly.

I just wanted you to know I got your reply. I will note the MRSA infection in all my future medical paperwork, and will tell the doctors.

I am also wondering about the ways MRSA is spread. If it is in your nose, would you only be able to spread it if you touch your nose?  So, for example, after I have surgery (to repair a severly degenerated achilles tendon, that will require a tendon transfer & graft-obviosuly not something I want to get infected!!)  would wearing gloves & washing hands be all I need to minimze the chance of being reinfected? Or is it that MRSA could be 'in' the body in such a way that I could end up with another MRSA infection even if we took hand washing & glove wearing precatuions? As in do you have to 'touch your nose & then touch an open sore/wound' to get infected? Or does it just lay dormant in the body until another flare up?

Just trying to understand the risks, given that I have already had an MRSA infection.
Thank you for the info...

Help/suggestion for MRSA victims

This show was heartbreaking and I had to write.  To anyone with this horrific infection, please research the works of Dr. Hulda Clark.  The protocol could help and can be used in congunction with traditional western medicine. I have personally benefitted (long story) as have many others.  Ignore "nay sayers" and follow your instincts.

You have nothing to lose with this and don't give up. Christina

Don't sue

Quote From: richick11

I do feel your pain.  I mentioned in my earlier post that all of the lawfirms I had talked to said that going to the hospital was a risk I took in regards to getting the infection.  I thought you go there to get better.  My suit was dropped due to people not wanting to litigate, but if the doctor that touched me without gloves had washed his hands I wouldnt be scarred and my internal organs would still be in tact.  But hey Im not a doctor nor lawyer so whatever.
I work in the legal industry and probably shouldn't say this, but don't put yourself through litigation.  You've already been through too much.  Remember, the law doesn't deliver justice, it delivers a verdict.  My advice?  Stay as far away from doctors and lawyers as you can.  god bless, christina

Research Hydrogen Peroxide therapy

Quote From: djnmjohnson

My twin daughters came down with MRSA the beginning of last school year. They were trying to recieve treatment for ingrown toenails and contracted MRSA durring the process.  To see your eight year old daughters go through this is heartbreaking, they are asking you for anwsers, and you cant give them any, because the doctors dont give you any. I was taking one of my daughters in daily for debridement and packing of abcesses, she would scream the whole time. As a mother of four it takes its toll on the whole family.

I especially remember expressing how confused and tired we were becoming because every time we thought it was gone, it would come back, another bump would appear and she would cry not wanting to go through it all again. I took her to the doctor at the early onset of another bump, and again he perscribed antibiotics( I had been reading fervantly and read the more you use antibiotics the less effective they become.) I was telling the doctor I was becoming terrified, I told him I knew this could be deadly, that the cutanious infections can be treated but when MRSA is in the blood or lungs its deadly, I wanted to know how to prevent it from spreading to the blood or lungs. He had no awnsers for me, I was crying and told him I was terrified, he told me I was over reacting that I just needed to give her the antibiotics as he was directing me to, then he said the most terrible insensitive thing that still angers me to this day, he told me "dont lose any sleep over this little bump she has" I told him "after all we have been thru I am losing sleep, I am worried" to wich he replied" Well Im not going to lose any sleep tonight over it, you shouldnt either!".

I have gotten so that I feel safer treating my own children at home, and not dealing with health professionals who spread this infection, and who know less than I do about its seriousness, or try to minimize it.  Its a terrible thing to be in this position.  I was taking my children in for treatment and durring visits I would tell them about using bacatrin in our nares to try and "de-colonize" and they would say " well lets try that then", I would tell them about putting a cap full of bleach in bathwater, and they would say "lets try that too." I would tell them about staphaseptic and they would say " sure try that" I would ask questions about how to protect the rest of the family, they would say 'I dont know" I would ask if I should be wearing gloves while attending to their wounds and they would say "it might be a good idea" I was sooo fed up with going to the doctors they were completely useless to me, I MEAN C'MON DID YOU GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL OR DID I? WHAT WAS I PAYING THEM FOR OTHER THAN CAUSING THIS WHOLE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.

With alot of reading and research we have actually done way better at treating this at home than any doctor ever did in the clinic or hospital. I am not a doctor though and I would hate to ever have something happen to my children because of that, I dont know everything, I cant, so what too do, I dont really know. I do however agree with one of the posts on the message boards from a retired nurse who said the LAST place you want to go when you are sick or injured is the hospital. I think we are all going to come to a point where we are going to have to know how to deal with this stuff on our own, its not worth the risk of being exposed to anything else and then having to deal with "medical professional" who havent got a clue.

Also, read the works of Dr. Hulda Clark.  Other countries are using these protocols and you can easily do them yourself.  My heart goes out to you.  god bless, christina

PS: your dr. said you were over reacting?!

Quote From: java_jess

I forgot one thing that my mom had recently told me. Im not even sure if it works because I didn't do it but supposedly honey works really well. I think you have to eat it but it wouldn't hurt to rub it on the wounds i don't think. But I has to be honey without any added stuff in it. hope this helps cheers

There is a probiotic that will kill staph. It's called Dr. Ohhira's 12 plus. Check out the web site for EssentialFormulas.com. All the research on the TH10 strain of bacteria, that kills the superbugs, is on this site. You can get it at a local health food store. But, it has to be this one. It's the TH10 strain of bacteria that kills them. Read the research. Good luck.

simple solution

Quote From: stormy8091

My brother is in Iraq, first of all, I am very proud of him for doing what he is doing.  He was diagnosed with MRSA right after he deployed about a year ago. What i really need to know is where we can get one of the lights so that we can send it to him.  he has taken every anti-biotic there is and now they are packing his boils after that have lanced them with yards and yards of gauze.  he will be home next month and i am wanting to find anything i can to help him and make his leave as comfortable and as pleasant as possible.  is there anything that i can buy or use. can anyone help me out please.
Dr. Ohhira's Probiotic 12 Plus.  You can find it at health food stores. The website with all the research is at EssentialFormulas.com. The strain of bacteria that kills the superbugs is in this product. It's called TH10. They use this product in Japan pre and post surgery, to kill staph. They have eradicated staph in their country with this. It's past time we did that here. Your brother can start taking this product and get rid of his staff within a few months. It's natural, safe and very effective. It's changed mine and my family's lives. Read about it. Get the information. Get on the product. I don't know of a living human being that shouldn't be taking this. You can give it to a 3 day old baby and/or a 10 year old horse. It helps you build your own inherent bacteria. Which is essential for fighting all bugs. Please look into it! I believe it will save his life.

TH10 strain of bacteria kills MRSA

Quote From: drkristen07

MRSA is very scary, and I have treated 4 cases of it in the last month. One thing that is showing promise is natural medicine. Not only are natural treatments successfully treating cases of MRSA, but it's also an excellent way to help prevent MRSA infections from occurring. Our philosophy is that it's not only the bug that's the culprit, but the terrain. If your immune system, or number of good bacteria in or on your body is out of whack, then this makes you more susceptible to infections of any kind. Balance is essential. And hand washing with regular soap - NOT antibacterial soap as this leads to resistance - is the number one thing you can do to help prevent infection. Remember to scrub for a full 30 seconds (2 rounds of Row, Row, Row Your Boat or Happy Birthday) often, and that can be your first step in preventing infection. And alcohol wipes or sprays are not disinfectants! They merely spread the bacteria around and maybe dry them out. Also, be careful with too much disinfectant in the home, as fumes can cause a decrease in your immune system when used too much. I highly recommend using the UV light for cleaning home surfaces so you don't have to deal with nasty chemicals.
Dr. Ohhira's Probiotic 12 Plus is used in Japan, pre and post surgery to kill MRSA. They have been doing this for 10 years. It is a government protocol. By doing so, they have practically eradicated staph. You can buy his product here, in the US, at health food stores.
If you keep washing all the good bacteria off your body you won't be able to fight disease. Dr. O also has a soap with the TH10 strain of bacteria in it. So, it kills that bad bacteria and keeps the good stuff. The probiotic actually helps you build your own inherent bacteria. As you know, this is essential for fighting diseases.
Check out the website: essentialformulas.com. Dr. O's research and information is all there.
