Don’t miss Dr. Phil’s exclusive interview with Brianna Denison's mother who is speaking out for the first time since her daughter's body was found. Nineteen-year-old Brianna made headlines when she was kidnapped while she slept on a friend's couch. Brianna's killer – an alleged serial rapist -- is still on the loose in Reno, NV. And, a controversial issue is heating up the headlines: Where should registered sex offenders live when they’re released from prison? Residents of Long Beach, California say not in their neighborhood. They’re outraged that an apartment building is allegedly housing 13 registered sex offenders, and the building owner is reportedly receiving $1,000 per month to house them. Former tenants, James and Getania, were disgusted to learn that the sex offenders were living in their building, and local residents weren’t happy either. Dawna owns several properties near the apartment complex. She says she’s losing tenants and the sex offenders are stalking others. Then, Jake Goldenflame, a registered sex offender who was convicted of molesting his daughter and young boys over 25 years ago, says he's still attracted to teenage boys, but says people like him have no resources and need to live somewhere. What does Dr. Phil think? Should the sex offenders be forced to leave the community, or should their neighbors just learn to live with them? If it's happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

Where Child Molesters Live

First of all I would like to learn Dr. Phil's professional opinion about child molesters and if it is an under lying physcological problem? Or perhaps because of all our modern technology of computers, sex books, DVD's , movies, etc. they are just suddenly "turned on" by all this information that is so readily available. Molestion has probably been around for a very long time and just in the last few years "they/or their victims have come out of the closet" about it. I do believe that they should have to be registered by law or face going back to jail.

03/07 Dr. Phil Now: Disturbing Headlines

Quote From: shawnb123

I did nothing against a child, I was charged with indecent exposier and the state made me register for the rest of my life. Now, I have a seven month old daughter, I take very good care of her. I'm very upset that I have to register as a sex offender and think the law for my case should be looked at. I didn't rape anyone, I never offended anyone, except for the police officer that saw me without any clothes on! So I guess I have to suffer just like all the other sex offenders out there. I don't agree with my lifetime conviction.

Well it would depend on what type of indecent exposer then wouldn't it? Still the name they are telling you to register under does not even make sense. I guess it does I'd be offended if you exposed your goods to me. Why? Well I didn't ask to see them so I obviously didn't care to either! So if it's not law that you have to register like I've read prior, then don't register. Why? Because you are not a RAPIST offender.

I honestly don't think that you can label it and have more than one meaning for the word under it especially if you are wanting 1 MAJOR MINORITY out of it really using the system so you know where they are. (Well you know, because I live in Canada.)

I do think that once you are charged with BEING A RAPIST go to prison do time for it, well it doesn't matter where you go in life AGAIN everyone should know this fact and be able to judge for themselves if they want to be around someone like YOU! Of course any sane person will not want to be, some will feel bad for you but most won't ever want you near them or anyone they know!

It's not right to do anything that YOU might feel mean when you get out.

Uh hello what were you in for? What right do you have now?

Deal with your consequences if you can't then go find that island that everyone keeps talking about if you can't get a job because you raped someone oh well too bad for you! Oh no it wasn't just because you raped someone it's because after you were done you killed them too, how nice of you!

When the public has a right to know they should!

So if the government and all who else is in charge of the legal system don't stick together then the communities and the people as a whole have to start watching their own territory seeing as we don't pay the government enough as well as support the criminals that have done these horrible despicable acts to helpless souls...

It should be a better dealt with law and the judicial system should have these criminals flagged immediately upon release! If they can't deal with it, really who cares... "Guess you shouldn't have done what you did!"

I know how I feel on this topic. I've been molested and date raped! I survived! In silence for years and years and years... I finally found HIM via Internet and confronted my molester to ask why? I knew what my reply was going to be! Yeah right dream on take that back blah blah blah blah blah!

"But you know what I finally confronted that horrible feeling deep inside, I did and gave it right back to him to deal with!"

Whenever anyone came close to me (and I've been married and in 3 major relationships and have 2 beautiful children and am a single mom now) Well not single, but take care of my boys. I used to judge what i was doing or being asked to do all the time. It was a very touchy subject to talk openly about. I have been called old fashioned because of it, but no one new why I never wanted to talk about it. I tell my friends now what happened back then and they are amazed. "They are also true friends and gave me crap for not telling them so that they could have in some way tried to help me."

Anyways I'm sure you think I'm rambling now but the real RAPISTS I lived in fear of what was done to me and i couldn't stop it then lived in silence for years if I am able to stop it now I  WILL.

It will take the President or someone up real high have this happen to someone they know before they will really look at his seriously.

Myself I would make a rapist listen to hundreds of people talking to them telling them how they feel!

Lock them in a room where they can't escape or shut off the volume and listen as to what they did to these people and people they knew and how it effected everyone - reap what you sew - speaking of that NO MORE SEWED OATES FOR YOU!

But then that's just me...

Quote From: mglove1963

How scary is it that if you are a minor that they do not have  a registary. And we have to protect them for there safety. And if they live in your own house you can not even protect your other childern with out being under securny of social services.

The laws need to be changed!  From personal experience we are saying this is ok until you are 18 and you get caught, but by that time they have learned to out smart the system. And now my daughter has to attend school with him and we are not allowed to tell anyone cause it would violate his rights!

Well I say if you've done the time you pay the crime.

But I would  not know what to say here except huh?

Sorry but you are the parents are you not?

I wouldn't have my son near my daughter if he was caught and charged for this crime.

"I would be soo torn is all I can say."

But I would also protect the Innocent - before catering to the devil so to speak...

DIDNT KNOW THE AGE "YEAH RIGHT"

Quote From: tina3940

My son is a immature 21 year old that has been trying to have a normal relationship with girls 18 and over. He is a sweet kid and I call him kid because that is what he is like, a kid. Well, this past week we have been going through a tough time as he was with a girl that claimed she was 18 and looked that age. Come to find out she was 15. My son didn't know her very long to find out the truth about her.  We are finding out that this girl has accused others of the same thing she has accused my son of. I assure you my son is not dangerous and could possible have to register as a sex offender.  I think before someone jumps to a conclusion that all people that are registered sex offenders are dangerous criminals, maybe you should actually find out what their story is and possibly they were also accused of something they actually didn't do. I am all for keeping the creeps and perverts away from our children but there are some out there that just got a bad rap. What about these young girls that get mad because the guy figured out their story or just decided the relationship wasn't working. They can make up anything and ruin a young mans life.  As this girl has done to my son.

TWENTY EIGHT YEARS AGO I NEW HOW OLD THEY WERE AND IF I DIDNT I WAS BROUGHT UP TO KNOW NOT TOO MESS AROUND.ILL BET HER ID SAID HER AGE AND IF IT COULD NOT BE   PRODUCED THEN BACK UP.I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT THE MOM GETS ALL THE CREDIT FOR HER CHILDREN "GOOD AND BAD" IM TOLD THAT ITS ALL IN THE UPBRINGING AND I REALLY DONT AGREE TOTALY BUT IT SURE IS 80% OF IT.WE NEED TO BE EXPLICIT WITH OUR CHILDREN ON ALL FACETS OF LIFE TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE KEPT SAFE AND HEALTHY.SO IF THIS HAPPENED TO MY CHILDREN I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE SOME OF THE BLAME BECAUSE I WASNT WATCHING,TEACHING AND OR DISAPLINING ENOUGH.IN OUR MINDS AS WE GROW UP IN ANY SITUATION WE ALL THINK ABOUT WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG AND THEN WE ACT.THERE IS NOBODY THAT IS SO INOCENT AND UNKNOWING AT 21 OR THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE WRONG HERE.ITS MY MOMS FAULT THAT I AM ME.IVE BEEN TOLD BY MANY PEOPLE THAT SHE IS TO BLAME FOR ME MAKING DECISIONS THAT HAVE MADE MY LIFE WHAT IT IS,THANK GOD FOR MY MOM,SHE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN LIFE AND HOW I CONDUCT MY LIFE.

They need to be supervised in another community

Yes this does worry me, I live in an apartment complex, and even tho they do criminal background checks, it can still happen, people that neighbors have over can be sex offenders, plus just because they don't live there doesn't mean they can't still do what they do, by stalking people etc.   it is horribly scary and I just don't think that the criminal justice system does not do enough to protect the community that these people are released to live in.   It takes lots of money and time, one thing that I know Texas does not have enough money to adequately deal with this problem.

sex offenders

Quote From: ladiehawke

This is a topic that has come up more than once between my circle of friends. We have talked it and taked it to death many times. There is no good answer.

Firstly, these people have to live somewhere. Our laws do not allow them to be taken out of society permanantly. Truthfully, I find the idea of them living all in the same building, isn't a bad idea.

My big problem with the sex offenders registery is that today someone can be labled a sex offender for getting drunk and taking a whizz on the side of the road. There are many people out there that have been forced to register for petty stupid little things that shouldn't be listed as a sex crime. Forcing someone to register as a sex offender should be saved for those who truly are sex offenders. And I hate to say it, but if this country is gonna place a scarlet letter on these people's chest and basicly prevent them from being able to work and live anywhere, then the bovernment should figure out a way to house and feed these people. You can't make a group of people pariahs and not see to their well being.
See to their well being? What about the well being of the victims? Why is there more concern about the offenders than the victims?  I do agree with the statement that the net for offenders is too big. A 17 year old kid having consensual sex with his 16 year old girlfriend having to register is ridiculous. However, I feel they know when they are touching a little kid, or forcibly having sex, and getting a thrill out of it, they know it's wrong. And since they could care less about the victims I could care less about them. Maybe they should think about how it will affect them if they are caught. It's all about choice.

Concerned Parent

We hear more & more about sex offenders these days myself I do not like them living close to me or my children at one time I was working with one in a place of business our boss knew what he was but he continued to work there hes no longer there now for other reasons but still how he got a job in the first place out in public I bet he was not even updated on his check in each month as a sex offender I just know I did not like the looks of him or even working in the same place as him the way he looked at us girls was scary & the way he talked to some of the girls was all wrong to he never should have been working there in the first place & getting to the disturbing headlines how can we protect our children from these kind of perferts if they are living right there in our neighborhood I have children myself 2 boys & 2 girls I worry bout my kids all the time esp one reason because they are living with a sick minded perfert of a dad who has sexually abused a family member of mine & been accused of hurting my oldest daughter in the wrong way many years ago this person is a sick mined perfert after little girls I do not trust him no matter how many people are living in that house & believe me theres a house full now of family members plus a dope head Aunt who is dads crazy sister from prision out of H,Tx  I do not like people like that that hurt little girls or big girls or even little boys or big boys & yes I think sex offenders need to be put in a spot in a far out location away from a town where they cannot get loose & go out & hurt young children or young adults what is our country coming to wake up out there it was a horrible story this mother loosing her daughter just alful

Keep these sex offenders out of our neighborhood & off the streets

Sex Offenders Among Us

I was once married to a sex offender.  You all have them in your own states--school teachers.  My ex plea bargained and didn't have to serve prison time, but should have, even "earned" a deferred sentence.  What's wrong with that picture?  I have no idea where this person lives now.  Could be your next door neighbor and you might regard this person as the nicest human you have ever met.  Beware--sex offenders are liars and manipulators.  Always have been and always will be.

That slob of a guy that pipcks his nose

This guy appeared on your afternoon show on March 6th.  He was with his wife who was complaining about some of the  disgusting habits that he has been exhibiting  in front of her as well as their baby daughter.  She listed some of his habits to wit:  Picks his nose and puts the buggers on the bottom of the chair that he is using, farts in bed and puts his wife's head under the covers and then wonders why she won't be intimate with him, passes gas in public and thinks it one big joke if he is successful in getting others to think that it was his wife.  What really ticked me off Dr. Phil was this clown trying to justify that this was "a guy thing".  Who died and left this man the spokesman for the male gender?  What the hell kind of guys has this clown been associated with  to make such a general statement?  Was he raised by wolves?   I suppose this guy is so damn ignorant that even if he reads this statement it would be like water running off a duck's back. What surprised me Dr. Phil was you not picking him up on his outlandish statement and letting this clown get off easy as just a simple goon.  Shame on you for not nailing this slob!

Then again after seeing the reaction of his wife to all of this.........I had to wonder why she was still staying with this slob.    Doesn't   she doesn't realize that her husband's behavior will be a negative male role model for his daughter.

Quote From: ramair

Jake Goldenflame is wnining because he's got no resources and has to live somewhere. He should've thought about that before he acted on his perverted impulses. No one has to act on their impulses.
