Don’t miss Dr. Phil’s exclusive interview with Brianna Denison's mother who is speaking out for the first time since her daughter's body was found. Nineteen-year-old Brianna made headlines when she was kidnapped while she slept on a friend's couch. Brianna's killer – an alleged serial rapist -- is still on the loose in Reno, NV. And, a controversial issue is heating up the headlines: Where should registered sex offenders live when they’re released from prison? Residents of Long Beach, California say not in their neighborhood. They’re outraged that an apartment building is allegedly housing 13 registered sex offenders, and the building owner is reportedly receiving $1,000 per month to house them. Former tenants, James and Getania, were disgusted to learn that the sex offenders were living in their building, and local residents weren’t happy either. Dawna owns several properties near the apartment complex. She says she’s losing tenants and the sex offenders are stalking others. Then, Jake Goldenflame, a registered sex offender who was convicted of molesting his daughter and young boys over 25 years ago, says he's still attracted to teenage boys, but says people like him have no resources and need to live somewhere. What does Dr. Phil think? Should the sex offenders be forced to leave the community, or should their neighbors just learn to live with them? If it's happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

My 16 year old son is a juvenile sex offender who's recovery!

I have 3 boys and four years ago I caught my 12 yr old son & my friend's 14 yr old son sexually offending my 6 yr old son and my 1 and a half yr old son! I immediately had the two oldest boys arrested and now four years later my son has been through three treatment centers and the officials say he is not likely to offend again! Of course now I have a 16 yr old who's on parole as a sex offender, a 10 yr old son and a 5 yr old son and all three of them are in seperate residences, all in counseling and I am a torn mother! I know I did the right thing four years ago by having them arrested but will it be enough? I can only pray that it will be enough! The adults who have sexually offended upon children is now creating a cycle of juveniles sexually offending upon juveniles and babies! This is a cycle that I am bound to stop by sharing my experience, strength and hope! Thank you!

What about procreation???

Quote From: sundeigo

Put them all on Alcatraz Island  with a shark tank in ocean like SeaWorld barbed wire extending 2 miles out surrounding the Island and let them have at it. The laws are in need of a overhaul. They get out in 2 years or less.  DO FOOD DROPS ! ! ! !  MILITARY STYLE ! ! ! PERKS THEY ARE ALL SEX OFFENDERS, LET THEM OFFEND EACH OTHER. ! ! !
There are just as many female offenders as there are male, you would have to have two islands to seperate them on or they would make more kids and start the circle over.  UNLESS...ha ha,  they are required to be steralized?!...that is something the government should take into consideration!!!

I have a great idea! How about we house the sex offenders with the judges that released them back into society!!!

WOW!!!

I totally agree with you.  If these people want to stick labels on these offenders, let's put the labels on all of the criminals.  When you go out to your boss' Christmas party and get pulled over for a DUI, let's post your picture on the web.  Or you and your spouse get into a domestic dispute, let's plaster your faces on the internet for all your neighbors to see.  Sound ridiculous?  Well that's how stupid it is to post people pics and info on the internet if they aren't sexual predators.  There is a big difference between an offender and a predator or pediphile. Somewhere along the line there has to be a change in the legal  system that says that if you are arrested for something like sexual assault, or exposing your parts in public, that you don't have to register everywhere you go.  If society is going to judge everyone, then let's put all the boozers on one block, the hippocrits on another, the adulterers on another, and so on and so on.  Also, if you are so worried about your child being kidnapped or molested,  then watch them more closely and stop leaving them alone while you and your friends chit chat or whatever.

Obviously you must be in this group of people you are deffending!

There is a pedophile up the street

Last summer three of our neighborhood children were skateboarding at the foot of their driveway, with two of the dads inside the open garage.
They were approached by a man in a white pick-up truck with out plates. He was wearing rubber gloves and sitting on a white sheet. He asked the boys if they played sports and if so, could he buy them a game-boy if they did well...
At this point the fathers stood up and the man pulled away.
They dads followed him, and called another neighbor who pulled his car into the street ahead and blocked the truck from 'getting away'. The dads called the police, and were told they were absolutely in the wrong... and given a warning.
When school started this year there were numerous reports of a white pick up (no plates) and two aggressive white males trying to grab local boys.
The driver was wearing rubber gloves.
I am part of the neighborhood watch group. And for now, apparently that is all we can do. Watch, gain information, and keep watching.
We all know where he lives. He is currently NOT registered, apparently inherited a home from some family.

This poor girl in Reno has haunted me.
I feel this man is married, and young... and that his wife has to work all night once a month.. like someone who has to do inventory. I have prayed for her. And I believe they will catch him soon.

03/07 Dr. Phil Now: Sex Offenders Next Door

I think that there should be a separate prison that all sex offenders should be sent to for life.  Let them put up with each other and not bother the rest of us.

reality check

We have such a "not in my backyard" attitude in America, and it just doesn't work.  People have to live somewhere, convicted of a sex crime or not.  Now, that said, I don't believe they should live too close to schools and public playgrounds.  That's just asking for trouble.  But the sad truth is that kids are everywhere, and so are their predators, many of which have not yet been caught.  As a parent, I am not about to get complacent just becuase there are no registered offenders living right by me.  It's my responsibility to keep my kids safe.  We have to be careful that we don't turn this into a witch hunt.  What these offenders have done is reprehensible, but if they are obeying the law and the terms of their parole, no one has the right to tell them they can't live in those apartments.  This is still a free country, and one where you are supposed to be considered innocent until proven guilty, even if you've been convicted of a prior.  They are being monitered and tracked, and in some cases, must go around to their neighbors and personally tell them who and what they are.  Enough already.  People, take responsibility for your little ones, and teach your big ones how to take care of themselves.  It's a nasty world we live in.

Define Sex Offender

I'm reading a lot of messages about people accused of sex offenses who do not sound like sex offenders to me. When I think of a sex offender, I think of a man or women who seduce and then force their attentions on unwilling young victims. Or adults that commit crimes of rape. Rape is unfortunately condsidered an act of "sex", but I consider it an act of forced control and humiliation over another human being. Sex is just a small part of this act but is often used by the offenders lawyers as an excuse of uncontrollable lust usually brought about because the victim was "asking for it" in some way by dressing or acting in some sexually provocative way. Consensual sex between two individuals who are close in age is not rape and so not to me a sexual offense. Part of the problem in our society is that there are many men in positions of high power who do not want to get caught at their own sexual offenses and so laws are often prevented from going on the books to help catch them. I knew a man at a church I once attended who creeped me out when he held a young girl on his lap and told me how much he enjoyed teaching Sunday School and how he loved holding children on his lap when he played Santa. There just wasn't something "right" about his behavior. When he told me he had just come back from a trip to Thailand the alarm bells in my head really went off. I told him that in the schools such physical displays of affection were not allowed and maybe he should follow that same practice. I could tell by the look in his eyes that he did not like what I was saying to him. When I talked to elders at the church about my concerns they treated me like I was crazy. I stopped attending that church and found out later there had been some "problems" with this man. There are so many predators out there and they are very good at hiding their desires to seduce and rape. It is up to parents to be vigilant and teach their children what is healthy affection and what is not.

Get the facts.......

I am very disturbed with the way in which your show has dealt with the issue of registered sex offenders!!! You fail to discuss are portraying "sex offenders" as all predators and pedophiles. If your 19 year old son has consensual sex with a 17 year old but a parent has him charged, he may be a registered "sex offender".  If a boy grabs a female by the buttocks, he may become a "registered sex offender". Thus there is a HUGE  problem with looking up sexual offenders and what they are convicted of is that you do NOT have the facts. You are also encouraging vigilantism....do you not recall the young man from Nova Scotia who traveled to the states and killed several registered "sex offenders"????? The reason that this concerns me, I work in a prison, with a Sexual Offender Assessment Team, with all types of offenders, murders, etc. The fact is for every known sexual offender there is in your community.........there are half as many that have never been caught. Use universal precautions, that is everyone is a potential offender.

Quote From: phil4president

If this were my world i was in charge of here's how the following would be delt with on offence #3, & in some cases even offence#2 :

A nice .59cent bullet of their choosing, to the rear of the head!

After ONE offence IF you still don't get it,you NEED a vacation to the world of hades!

It's so painfully simple people, get your act together, jails are just parasite breeding grounds when released they are bigger, tougher and get this UNREHABILITADED!

Death to prisons- &  life to kind Bullets!

Remember this some night you have a little to much to drink and grab someones butt and you get charged....You just may be one of these labeled registered "sex offenders".
