Don’t miss Dr. Phil’s exclusive interview with Brianna Denison's mother who is speaking out for the first time since her daughter's body was found. Nineteen-year-old Brianna made headlines when she was kidnapped while she slept on a friend's couch. Brianna's killer – an alleged serial rapist -- is still on the loose in Reno, NV. And, a controversial issue is heating up the headlines: Where should registered sex offenders live when they’re released from prison? Residents of Long Beach, California say not in their neighborhood. They’re outraged that an apartment building is allegedly housing 13 registered sex offenders, and the building owner is reportedly receiving $1,000 per month to house them. Former tenants, James and Getania, were disgusted to learn that the sex offenders were living in their building, and local residents weren’t happy either. Dawna owns several properties near the apartment complex. She says she’s losing tenants and the sex offenders are stalking others. Then, Jake Goldenflame, a registered sex offender who was convicted of molesting his daughter and young boys over 25 years ago, says he's still attracted to teenage boys, but says people like him have no resources and need to live somewhere. What does Dr. Phil think? Should the sex offenders be forced to leave the community, or should their neighbors just learn to live with them? If it's happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

I do not have alot of Mercy in this area. I believe once you have sexually offended someone you have murdered their spirit , their wholeness and their chance at total wellbeing someday.
I do not believe a molester, sex offender etc.. , should ever be out of jail. I believe murderers should not either. To me the crimes are the same.  Even though someone that has been molested is still alive physically, the death on the inside of them is so bad.  Most never get over it.  So if I had my way, they would all get the death penalty and not sit on death row forever, but get it over with quickly. They are NOT human in my sight. Even if they were offended before, how in the world can they use that as an excuse to go on and mess others up?  If they have no control, or no remorse over what happened to them , to make them not be like their offender , then they need to be put away. If we could get them out of society, we could eventually end or lessen these crimes. But the law insist on treating these people like humans. Make an area in the USA far away from normal decent people, and make them all go live there. That way they can just use and abuse their own kind.  Like I said I just have no Mercy for people like this. It'd probably be best if they used a firing squad on them, Like in other countries to some who break the laws . Our laws though are on the criminals side here in America. That is why the crime rates are getting worse everywhere. There is No Justice for decent people. Only for criminals.  Things need to be turned around. Build more prisons etc.. Right now as I am typing on the news they are talking about 2 murders of two different college students, One female in Auburn Ala. from Ga. and another  female in a state I missed.  I think maybe she was from Ga. also.  Its just so sad for these families etc..  If justice was on the victims side , we'd see less of this kind of stuff.  I usually have alot of Mercy. But I am sorry in this area, I just can't find it.  I know too many victims of this kind of crime  !!  I've witnessed the permanent damage this seems to do !!
I acknowledge your right to your opinion regarding this matter. I disagree with your solution to the problem. I would not be surprised if you might be a victim of a sex crime with all the anger you express. I  suggest that if you disagree with the American Judical Sytem's way of dealing with sex offender that you might consider relocationg to another country that may share your harsh views of handling this problem. In no way do I justify or condone the actions of Sex Offenders but they, like all law breakers need to be treated in a humane way.  It is unfair to lump together all people that are considered sex offenders under the law . Based on my observations regarding Dr. Phil's shows, he seems to be the eternal optimist in seeing the good in people and trying to help them to correct their mistakes. To lump all sex offenders together and believing that none of them are capible of being rehabilitated is like saying there is no interventions for drug abuse or mental illness.

I have shifted my stance

As a victim of rape first time as an 8 yr old girl, I used to be a person that felt all sex offenders, no matter the case should have their genitalia cut off and a brand on the forehead. But, in the time since...

I met and became very close to a gentlemen, my age 25, who is a registered sex offender. His story makes me very sad. He is a sexual offender, because he was an 18 yr old senior in a small town and he met and dated a girl from the other HS in town and they lost their virginity to each other... Her father found out and was very upset so she claimed it was not consensual. On top of that her and all her ridiculous girlfriends lied about her age, because she thought it was cool to date an older guy. Even the mayor of their town wrote a letter to the judge praising *****, and talking about what a good, upstanding guy he was, but unfortunately they threw the book at him. Now, he is the first to be fired, and has a hard time keeping a job to support his family, and on top of that, he has a hard time finding a place to live, because it's true, no one wants a sex offender living in their apt complex.

I am not suggesting we let them all roam free, many, if not most of these sex offenders are completely jacked in the brain, and have serious issues. But there are varying degrees, and I don't feel that folks like my friend should be lumped in with the others. He's had enough hardships in his life, even before this sad event, and the rest of his life he will be punished, more than I feel ***** deserves.

Dear mommy of the angel...

Quote From: terrie400

Something I always wondered. How do you define sex offender? The reason I ask is this. My son had sex with a girl who not only told him she was 17 but also had a state issued  ID saying she was 17, He was 18. Well low and behold she was 13, Where did she get the ID. her mother who was serving time for possession of CDS . Mom got her the ID before she was picked up. See it was easier that way, Then the daughter could drive and run errands for mommy while she was wasted. Needless to say my son is now a registered "sex offender"  The sad part was at 13 the DA knew her by name. Why? because my son was not the first man she lied to, slept with, then cried rape. BUT Because of the way the law is written he is the bad guy. So tell me. What now? his life is not worth a plug nickle. What about these girls who pull this kind of stuff? Shouldn't she be a registered something?
17 IS STILL UNDERAGE...

Terrorism

No one can exist in a constant state of terror.

We need to stop telling women and girls that they should live in a constant state of fear, never leave their homes, never trust anyone,  This is exactly what the sex offenders want. Fear, is a sexual fetish to them.

Nothing excites them more than a scared  girl/woman. That is by far the most common theme in  horror movies or in all heterosexual pornography.

Instead we need to teach women and girls self defense and give them weapons to defend themselves against rapists. Teach them to be confident a strong.

I think too many women have been taught to be 'nice' and passive. We've all grown up afraid to hurt or disappoint anyone, especially men.  We need to tell girls that they have a right to fight, injure and even kill to protect themselves. We, as a culture need to stop blaming victims for being in the 'wrong' place at the wrong time, for talking to the 'wrong' person, for wearing the 'wrong' clothing. Men rape, it's not the women who are to blame for that. Nor is rape and child molestation a 'women's issue'...it's a cultural sickness.

I routinely check online in our area and surrounding areas to keep up with the registered sex offenders. Yes, not all are child offenders, some are "just" offenders. My thought is, the dating community has the right to know who these men are because they may come across them in a social situation. Also, the rest of us have the right to know if there is a convicted rapist or flasher living in an area near us. Someone like this could possibly offend again. I have to believe you are either an offender yourself or you know someone who is.

03/07 Dr. Phil Now: Sex Offenders Next Door

I'm disgusted by sex offenders and every other peice of scum on this earth.  These animals are useless and don't deserve any rights.

Everyone deserves a second chance. We all make mistakes, but when someone gets caught for doing the same thing twice it's not a mistake anymore. I sincerely think that once a person has commited 2 or more violent crimes, they should no longer have any human rights.  If your going to act like an animal then you should be treated like one.

Why should we havee to pay taxes to keep these useless scum alive in prison? Enough is enough. This planet is overpopulated as it is. It's time to start "weeding" out the evil of the species. I think they should be exterminated. They're a cancer that grows on the hard working and decent people of this world. We need to breed more good people and "cull" the bad.

he should have done a better job of verifying

Quote From: trlemay

I am the mother of a sex offender...I'll explain, my son at the age of 19 ( by one month) met a girl on MySpace whom he thought was 21.  She had posted 21, she looked 18, I think. They got together after chatting online several times.  He has always liked girls a few years older than him...he asked questions such as "where's your car"  she replied, "it's in the shop", he made other comments and asked other things, she had a reply that would validate her age of 21.  They were together consensually twice.  This girl has been dating a 23 year old and others, my son just happened to be the one to admit to knowing her and being with her, he didn't think anything of it when questioned by the authorities.  This girl was actually 14, her father is an investigator the the local sheriff's dept.  My son is sitting in jail with a whole bunch of young guys in this same situation, he is also sitting in jail with a man that sexually abused his own 4 year old daughter, older men who have forced themselves on young girls within the same age of the girl that my son was with.  I ask why do we place ALL of these people in the same bucket and label them the same?  My thoughts are that the sex offenders have different classifications for the degree of the offense.  Do you agree?  I thought the same as all of you who have expressed your thoughts and feelings as to where they should live and how "they" should be treated by society.  I thought those thoughts until I walked in the shoes of the mother of a sex offender.  I can't express the hurt that I feel, not for me, but for my son and the other kids that do have the scarlet letter forever stamped on their forehead.  Where does my son live when he gets out, where does he work, is banning sex offenders from neighborhoods discrimination, is it fair?  This "girl" that I speak of is still advertising herself on MySpace, with the same age of 21 posted, with the same picture that makes her look pretty close to the age she has posted.  Her life didn't stop, her life didn't change, she's not locked up for entrapment or lying or changing my son's life forever.  What's fair about that
it was his job to verify with a birth certificate, lisence, talking to family members of hers, and you should have taught him to date someone before you jump into bed with them, then he would have known she was not over 18, so, he is a sex offender, and btw, what you choose to believe about myspace participants is up to you, but anyone can write anything, nothing is verified
