Don’t miss Dr. Phil’s exclusive interview with Brianna Denison's mother who is speaking out for the first time since her daughter's body was found. Nineteen-year-old Brianna made headlines when she was kidnapped while she slept on a friend's couch. Brianna's killer – an alleged serial rapist -- is still on the loose in Reno, NV. And, a controversial issue is heating up the headlines: Where should registered sex offenders live when they’re released from prison? Residents of Long Beach, California say not in their neighborhood. They’re outraged that an apartment building is allegedly housing 13 registered sex offenders, and the building owner is reportedly receiving $1,000 per month to house them. Former tenants, James and Getania, were disgusted to learn that the sex offenders were living in their building, and local residents weren’t happy either. Dawna owns several properties near the apartment complex. She says she’s losing tenants and the sex offenders are stalking others. Then, Jake Goldenflame, a registered sex offender who was convicted of molesting his daughter and young boys over 25 years ago, says he's still attracted to teenage boys, but says people like him have no resources and need to live somewhere. What does Dr. Phil think? Should the sex offenders be forced to leave the community, or should their neighbors just learn to live with them? If it's happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

A big Thank You

Dr. Phil Thank you so much for covering this topic and giving us an internet address to go to to check for sex offenders in our area.  I did this tonight to find out that we have an offender living on our street.  I do not fear for myself, but we often have our young granddaughter with us.  You can believe that she will not be out of our sight.  I also plan to alert the rest of the neighbors to his presence.  Fortunately, we do not have many young children living on our street, but there are a few, and also visitors who come with young children.

THANK YOU again.

Thank you for site!!

It's very scary to know how many sex offenders live next to you!  There are about 170 in the 10 mile radius from where I live (I need to move).  There's about 20 that live half a mile away!  It's a shocking reality check, thats for sure.

You can find out the # of sex offenders that live in your area, their names, addresses and pictures from the the family watchdog site:

http://www.familywatchdog.us/

What to do when the jails are so overcrowded that these sociopaths are free?

I went immediately to that site and was shocked at how close I had sexual offenders to my door!  I am sending this site to everyone I know.. I hope everyone will do the same!!

Thanks!!

Our local Police wont even notify the school!

I have a situation that just happened yesterday, which ties in to this show exactly.  I work in the front office of our local (very small community) elementary school.  I read in our paper the police dept. had notified a neighborhood one street away from my school about a new registered sex offender.  I called the police dept. to ask for a flyer with photo so I could post in our Teachers lounge and front office so we would know who does not belong on our campus.  I was told they could not give me that information!  I again said I worked at the school which is close to this persons house.  No.  they could not give me that information.  I was shocked!  I complained to our School Dare Officer and he told me I could just go on the internet for that information.  I explained I did just that, and could not print off the photos, so I would appreciate help from the police dept.  I still have not received any information from the local police.  I realize we are a very small community ( 6000 +/- pop) with a 'Can't happen here attitude' but come on.. when the local police dept won't even help out.. what are the citizens to do?

Of course they charge

I know "now" you can go to family watch dog to find these predetors but I first went to what the Dr. Phil show said to go to and couldn't believe what I found!

The "National Alert Registry" charges for the informationof these rapists they call sex offenders. NO ONE  should make money on this it should be FREE for all of the law abiding citizens! This show made me sick and I agree these pigs should never get out and see day light.

It  has been almost a year ago  next month I moved into my apartment building. Not until just last month did i find out that the man i thought was my landlord is really a sex offender. This man is not my landlord but yet the fiance of my landlord. He pertrayed himself to me and my boyfriend to being the landlord. This man has been around and in all of the tenants apartments which some include children. This man also owns a Heating and Air company in our small town. Never once we were ever informed of him being a sex offender and im shocked that this man is allowed to run a business where he is constantly in and around several peoples home several times a day, im sure some with children. Isnt there a law saying they must inform these people so that they are aware.

03/07 Dr. Phil Now: Sex Offenders Next Door

There are so many different types of sex offenders! Yet they are all lumped into this one category. If a boy is 19 and dating a girl that is 17 he can become a sex offender and the rest of his life is ruined by an angry dad.

So many of you people are quick to judge. You can also be label a sex offender for public urination. Drunk College kids in my town have had this happen.

YES, there are BAD sex offenders but what about those that are not bad people? Where do they live? My dad has been labeled a sex offended and has never touched any child. Porn pictures of underage women were in a mix of legal aged women on his computer. Yet he lives in constant fear of what other people will do if they found out.

The media is taking this situation out of control. Where are they supposed to live? Where is my dad supposed to live? He needs to move out of the state he lives in because of the intense heat and his countless health conditions, but he can't because of all the RIDICULOUS laws that they have now.

Its really getting out of control and there needs to be some way to make these moms and law makers understand that not all of them are bad people. There are exceptions!

Info....

Quote From: hi_d_h

It's so refreshing to see some accurate information being posted.  I have done a considerable amount of study on this subject and am ever amazed by what politicians and the media spin to the public.  I actually think your Hitler quote is very appropriate to this topic.  Politicians trying to make a name for themselves are jumping on the Sex Offender Laws bandwagon creating legislation in the name of "protecting the children" that disregards statistical data, doesn't protect anyone, and often isn't even enforceable.  Sex offender treatment providers in our area offered political leaders in our area an open invitiation to educate our legislators about sex offenders, and discuss which measures would likely be effective/ineffective.  ONE politician accepted the invitation, yet MANY of them introduced useless--even counterproductive--legislation.  The recidivism rate for sex crimes is indeed very low (4-6%), and employment, housing, treatment, and family support all decrease the likelihood of reoffending.  If we are truly interested in protecting the children, we need to be focusing on what really works rather than vengeance and worthless yet costly legislation.

Where did you get your statistics on the current recidivism rates? Just curious.  Any examples of legislation that doesn't protect anyone or isn't enforceable?   I just want to look into it for myself.  Thanks.

SEX OFFENDERS

I AGREE WITH ALLOT THAT WAS ON TODAYS SHOW

THERE IS SO MANY SEX OFFENDERS THAT ARE NOT REGISTERED ALSO

AND ITS AMAZING HOW THEY CAN GET CONVICTED BUT BE BACK OUT IN 5 YEARS THAT ISN'T RIGHT I DON'T THINK AT ALL

IN AZ THEY HAVE TO GO TO THE STATE HOSPITAL AND GET EVALUATED WHEN IT CLOSE TO TIME FOR RELEASE AND ALLOT OF THEM DO NOT GET RELEASED THEY AREN'T IN PRISON ANYMORE BUT THEY ARE IN THE STATE HOSPITAL FOR THE REST OF THERE LIFE

WHAT THE MOTHER OF THE GIRL THAT DISAPPEARED IN RENO I'M NOT FAR FROM RENO MY SELF WHAT SHE SAID REGARDING THE 3 STRIKES YOUR OUT LAW I AGREE WITH THAT IN REGARDS TO MURDERS AND SEX OFFENDERS

MY HUSBAND IS INCARCERATED ON THE 3 STRIKES YOUR OUT LAW FOR THEFT AND DRUGS  I BELIEVE THAT IN HIS SITUATION THE SENTENCE HE GOT WAS LITTLE TO HARSH HE GOT LIFE WITH PAROLE POSSIBLE PAROLE AFTER TEN YEARS HE HAD TO DO A MINIMUM OF TEN YEARS

HE IS BEEN IN TROUBLE MOST OF HIS LIFE

NO HE IS NO ANGEL I KNOW THAT I KNOW HIS CRIMINAL HISTORY EVERYTHING HES BEEN ARRESTED FOR AND CONVICTED OF AND IN PRISON FOR

THE 3 STRIKES YOUR OUT LAW DOESN'T ALWAYS GET CARRIED OUT SOME TIMES ITS 4 OR 5 TIMES BEFORE THEY SENTENCE YOU AS A HABITUAL CRIMINAL WHICH IS WHAT MY HUSBAND IS

HE IS BEEN LABELED A PEDOPHILE BECAUSE HE CANT SHOW HIS "PAPERWORK" WE HAD IT IT GOT RUINED IN A STORAGE SHED OF MINE ALONG WITH REST OF HIS COURT PAPERS AND ALLOT OF PERSONAL ITEMS

MY STEP DAUGHTER WAS MOLESTED FOR LONG TIME AND THE MAN IS NOW SITTING IN PRISON AND ALL HE GOT WAS 20 YEARS MAXIMUM

I DON'T THINK THAT IS RIGHT SOME ONE THAT IS MOLESTED A CHILD OR RAPED SOMEONE OF ANY AGE SHOULD GET A LESSER SENTENCE THEN SOME ONE THAT IS A HABITUAL I THINK THEY SHOULD GET LIFE WITH OR WITH OUT PAROLE I THINK WITH OUT PAROLE IS MORE SUITED BUT THAT ISN'T MY DECISION TO MAKE

IT SCARES ME WITH THE SEX OFFENDER STILL ON LOOSE IN RENO NEVADA MY DAUGHTER IS JUST A YEAR OLDER THAN BRANDIE WAS AND SHE WANTS TO LIVE ON HER OWN AND SHE IS IN NO WAY READY OR CAPABLE TO DO THAT SHE HAS A LOT OF MENTAL HEALTH  ISSUES BUT SHE THINKS SHE CAN OF COURSE AND THINKS THAT ALL SHE WOULD HAVE TO DO IS KICK THEM WHERE IT COUNTS OR ELBOW THEM OR LEARN KARATE I TRY TO TELL HER THAT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO IT THEN THAT THEY CAN APPROACH YOU AND BEFORE YOU KNOW THEY ARE THERE THEY GOT YOU BUT SHE DON'T GET IT

ANYWAY I AM VERY GLAD YOU DID THE SHOW

SOME ONE THAT I WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH YOU WOULDN'T OF THOUGHT IT WHEN GROWING UP BUT HE IS NOW A SEX OFFENDER YOU JUST NEVER KNOW

KEEP AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AT ALL TIMES

I don't believe what I'm reading

I've been monitoring this website and there seems to be an overwhelming amount of responses in defense of the people accused:

Oh, he was just mooning someone.

Oh, he didn't know she was only fourteen.

Oh, he was drunk.

Oh, she was a slut anyway.

Oh, Oh , Oh!!!!

The fact of the matter is that sexual behavior is supposed to be something that takes place between two consentual adults.  Not a 19 year old with a 15 year old regardless of her experience or actions.  Not a man with a young girl at a drunken frat party.  Not misguided actions due to mental illness on anyones part.  The person to be held responsible is the adult.  If you are incapable for making an adult decision to have sex you should be held responsible.  If the people around you know that you have this affliction (and I call it an affliction because you apparently can not help yourself) they should be held responsible as well.

I would not put my infant into the hands of an epileptic whos violent seizures were triggered by flashing lights in the middle of a disco.  No offense to epileptics but things are as they are.  I know you feel sorry for the accused, because they are your friends and loved ones, but the fact is  they are guilty of extremely poor judgement at the least..  I am almost 50 and throughout my life I have been hit on by, what I am sure have been, people underage I have never found myself in the position to go along with anything that stupid or irresponsible.  And I have been drunk, high, intoxicated, and depressed.  So stop making excuses for the bad behavior of others.  Because if it hasn't happened to your kids you are lucky.  And if it has and you excuse it YOU ARE A FOOL.
