Don’t miss Dr. Phil’s exclusive interview with Brianna Denison's mother who is speaking out for the first time since her daughter's body was found. Nineteen-year-old Brianna made headlines when she was kidnapped while she slept on a friend's couch. Brianna's killer – an alleged serial rapist -- is still on the loose in Reno, NV. And, a controversial issue is heating up the headlines: Where should registered sex offenders live when they’re released from prison? Residents of Long Beach, California say not in their neighborhood. They’re outraged that an apartment building is allegedly housing 13 registered sex offenders, and the building owner is reportedly receiving $1,000 per month to house them. Former tenants, James and Getania, were disgusted to learn that the sex offenders were living in their building, and local residents weren’t happy either. Dawna owns several properties near the apartment complex. She says she’s losing tenants and the sex offenders are stalking others. Then, Jake Goldenflame, a registered sex offender who was convicted of molesting his daughter and young boys over 25 years ago, says he's still attracted to teenage boys, but says people like him have no resources and need to live somewhere. What does Dr. Phil think? Should the sex offenders be forced to leave the community, or should their neighbors just learn to live with them? If it's happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

Predator "Sickos"

Quote From: dingoyada

I work for a prison and I'm here to tell you that locking up these offenders does not take away their drive as predators once released.  Another problem is that most Americans are under the impression that sex offenders "have" to register when released from incarceration.  They are TOLD to register but many do not.  It's going to have to be up to each individual to know their surroundings, know their neighborhoods and keep themselves safe.
OK, then their "drive" should be taken away "PHYSICALLY" by a doctor and then they won't ever want to do anything again---sterilize them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even then, they should stay locked up NOT in our prisons but in a "mental" ward!

House and feed them on my dime? NO FRICKIN' WAY

Whether you feed them without bars or behind bars, its still your dime. I think if businesses would not reject an offender applicant because of what they did or didnt do, then you wouldnt have to put out so many dimes as most of them will be glad to be employed. These are humans. I know some offenders are unteachable, but many are. While incarcerated, there needs to be required counseling to all offenders to open up and discuss what they did and why they did it. We can spend millions on new prisons or press legislation to pass death on all offenders, but are these the answers to this epidemic? If parents keep an open communication with their kids and take time to address their problems while theyre still young, then kids wont have to go elsewhere to learn it from someone else whom we dont approve of. That could be the start of their misspent youth. We have to give kids all the education they need with love and correction. If parents ignore their kids problems hoping theyll go away, then get ready to put out more dimes.

Many of these offenders target kids, seeking employment that gives them free access to kids. Such as coaching and teaching. With kids who often come from homes where they have no problem communicating with their parents. Of course, when the offender says "this is our secret" and threatens to kill the kids' parents if they tell, communication is likely to break down. Some offenders do this. Deny it all you want, but you can't make it untrue. And, if it's got to be on my dime, it damn well better be someplace they can't victimize any more kids.

Oh Puleez!

Quote From: dahhhhhhhh

The ever growing number of sex offenders is frightening.

I always tell people, never be pacified by the information you find

on law enforcement websites about where registered sex offenders

are supposedly living.

My own experience with tracking criminals has shown me that,

while they are obliged to list an address where they live, most of

them actually reside elsewhere out from under the gaze of law enforcement,

where they can ply their crimes without scrutiny.

I'm all for tracking devices to folow their every move.

We have huge camps of sex offenders who have chosen

to hangout together under overpasses/bridges/railways and by rivers

in the greater Kansas City area.  And, not because they have no where

else to go, either.  These places have become hotbeds of activity

from where the offenders can launch attacks against citizens.

Oh, let me get this right, since you are presenting yourself as an expert!  These people have "CHOSEN" to be homeless in the dead of a KC winter?  And they are out roaming the city launching "attacks" on citizens and the police are doing what?  Coffee and donuts.

People you have to get a grip on your hysteria!

And, by the way, for all the supposed "Christians" that are suggesting violence, death, etc.  Exactly how "Christ-like" is that?  How about rather than spouting your hate, you remember that Jesus suggested that you love everyone and leave the judging up to his Father.

Or, if you can't do that, at least don't insult the rest of us by calling yourself a Christian.

The problem

The problem is they are not hard enough on these psychos that prey on women and our kids. They need to lock these losers up for the rest of their lives so they can never harm another woman or child again.

Why should we give them so much

I firmly believe that sex offenders should not be released into mainstream society. I personally think that they should never be released because they are not going to be able to give to society other than constant fear for our children and women. They should have a location in every state where they can go or maybe several locations.  They should I realize that it will cost money to have places like this made but the truth is we are paying for them to live anyway.  We pay to support them in prison and most of the time when they get out so why not just build them their own little community. At least we don't have to worry about the children and women of our communities if they are somewhere else.  I don't even want to think about some creepy man sitting there watching my children while they play.  Children are the best example of purity and innocence that there is and to have that destroyed by some child predator is unacceptable and people just think it is okay to bring them in to our neighborhoods are just as bad as the offender them self.  To willing put children and women in danger or at risk is the saddest most inhumane thing there is.  You are knowingly risking their lives.  There needs to be some type of place where these people can all go and be together.  They should not be in mainstream society where everyday there is a buffet to feed their demented desires.  It is incomprehensible to me that people would knowingly cluster these people in neighborhoods.  If you want the money from housing them then go build you a building out in the woods and let them come live there.  Don't put other people at risk for your financial gain.  I am sure that if one of these building owners children or wife or mother or sister was raped or molested that they would change their mind very quickly about moving them in.   I also believe that making sex offenders post where they live isn't enough.  They should have to wear some sort of scarlet letter (for lack of a better term).  People have the right to know if that man staring at them in the mall or the grocery store is a sex offender.  How can people be expected to defend themselves if they don't even know what to expect.  They could be on guard and more cautious if they knew what to expect.  I myself hate knowing that I am having to support someone that is a sex offender but I would rather have my money go to give segregated housing than to know that they are being mixed in with innocent women and children.  It shouldn't be about the sex offender's rights anymore it should be about the rights of women and children to live without the constant fear of rape or molestation from their neighbors.

Sex Offenders living next door!

Being a victim of a brutal sexual assualt, and indulging my life into a career working with federal offenders in Canada, many of them being sex offenders, I am disgusted with how many people reacted on the Dr. Phil show. These sex offenders are people too. Yes, they have have raped 1, 2, or more people, but that is why they spent time in PRISON! They are now on PAROLE! Which means that they have been sentenced for their crime. Them being on the street is their second chance at getting better and returning to the community and be law abiding.

As said before, I have been raped, the sex offenders still live in the commuity and it is not unusual for me to run into them from time to time. I work with many sex offenders. Where are they supposed to go? They can't stay in prison forever. My suggestion for everyone is to stop being to damn judgemental and give people a second chance. We do the same for burglars and robbers don't we?!?!

Check Out The State's Laws

And, by the way, for all the supposed "Christians" that are suggesting violence, death, etc.  Exactly how "Christ-like" is that?  How about rather than spouting your hate, you remember that Jesus suggested that you love everyone and leave the judging up to his Father.

Or, if you can't do that, at least don't insult the rest of us by calling yourself a Christian.

For those who choose to be homeless, in New York, that is their right.  We have shelters, and I'm not saying they are great places to be, but no one can FORCE a homeless person to enter one against their will...A lawyer brought that to Court years ago, and won that "right".  Personally, I don't see it as a "right" .  It is enabling our City to shirk the need to supervise people who are mentally ill, and cannot choose wisely...How the man won, I don't know because not only does it put their lives in danger, it is a danger to the public welfare.  Mindsets like that belong in a mental facility, or a nursing home...because whether or not they are molesters, they are not stable enough to be trusted to their own devices.

About hysteria...do you read the papers?  Are you pleased with the crime rate?  I'm not.  In no way do I consider myself to be hysterical, I'm realistic.  No one is immune, and if it's "hysterical" to want to live and raise a family in a safe enviornment, I call that normal.

As far as being Christian, it is asking a lot to expect people to love rapists and murderers....try losing a child to a violent crime, or having a young child molested...Jesus is our role model, but we aren't THAT perfect...and while I do not condone the death penalty, or violence, I can see the reaction as being a very human response to civil abominations.

Maybe if we had a legal system that actually worked,  there would be less need for this public outrage...why is a man out of prison after admittedly raping numerous young boys PLUS his own daughter?  Jail time for hard core offences should be just.  It often is not.  Our society is not protecting us...Please do not insult Christianity, or any religion, or free thinking person for wanting to live safely and protect children.  If someone is sick, you hospitalize them.  If they need supervision, you monitor them.  If they are dangerous to society, you jail them.

This is not about religion, it is about a quality of life for decent citizens who do not want to become house hostages in their communities.  WE have a right to expect better, and the right to be angry when we are forced to accept the unacceptable.

It is becomming such that the criminals have more rights than the victims.  DO NOT think that is what ANY GOD intended!
