Dr. Phil takes on a hot topic that has people buzzing! They’ve been called wolves, snakes and vultures, and now Hollywood stars want them to back off. They’re the "stalkarazzi" who stop at nothing to get that million dollar photo. What should happen to photographers and videographers who chase celebrities through traffic, harass them and hunt them down like prey? Should they go to jail, or do celebrities give up their right to privacy when they become famous? Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine has created an anti-paparazzi proposal that would impose a personal safety bubble of several feet around public figures who are deemed to be paparazzi targets. Joining the discussion is Russell Turiak, a paparazzi for 30 years, Adrian Grenier, star of HBO’s show Entourage, Hollywood.TV owner Sheeraz Hasan, actress Illeana Douglas, and Brandy Navarre, Vice President of photo agency X17 Online. What do they think of the newly proposed Britney law? Plus, who does musician Gene Simmons say is to blame for the celebrity-obsessed paparazzi? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

03/11 Dr. Phil Now: Targeting the Paparazzi

Oh come on!!  Yes, there should be a limit to how far these photogs can go. Picking up poop.  Who cares?  However, i'm sure these celebs were not batting an eyelash when they purchased their million dollar homes.  They should be thanking us for reading those magazines!  These guys who are trying to start that law should do the comendable thing and instead of cashing their next check give it back to us.  I definitely could use it, how about you?

We Don't Care

I was only able to watch your paparazzi show for about 5 minutes.  Don't you understand we don't care about this.  Hollywood is comprised of (mostly) spoilled, self-centered, whining individuals, who have way too much fame and money and much too little moral grounding.  Self-absorbed and shallow, they  are successful by the world's standards, yet are continually unhappy,  brooding and self-destructive and we are all supposed to be concerned that they are being "stalked" by photographers.  To use your terms, Dr. Phil "are you kidding me/".

Personally, I think Gene Simmons is an idiot, and doesn't know what he's talking about. Just looking at him makes me want to laugh, but the words that come out of is mouth are just idiotic. I also think people that buy those stupid gossip magazines have nothing better to do, half of the stuff in there isn't real, why would you waste your time and money.

03/11 Dr. Phil Now: Targeting the Paparazzi

okay i just have a question ...

does anybody else think that this show today was completely pointless? because i do. Take a look at where our society is headed. CNN covers Britney Spear's "adventurous" trips to the hospital instead of the war or the economy. Dr. Phil is talking about some law about how close the paparazzi can get? Who cares? This would be so much less of an issue, but we make it a big issue. It's honestly ridiculous. Dr. Phil: cover a current and relevant issue in society, please. Talk about abuse, families, or issues in society that affect us, not how far away the paparazzi can be from Paris Hilton. When a celebrity brings that much attention to themselves (i.e. Lindsay Lohan's alcohol issues or Paris Hilton strutting around saying "that's hot"), the paparazzi, of course, is going to flock to them. I've seriously heard enough of this. When you start seeing world headline news channels covering Nicole Richie's sudden weight loss, this country is heading down a bad road. Let's focus on the real issues of the world. Does anybody agree with me?

GO HOME PAPARAZZI AND GET A LIFE

I believe that they should have a law about how close they can get to people of this celebertiy life. They have restraining orders in place for men who harrasse women, who beat upon women...and so on....why can't they have that type of things paparazzi. Yes celebs really put themselves in some situations such as the no panties photos out there...they make mistakes...what if you had a daughter or son and they had pictures taken of those types...then they got put out there for everyone to see...and you know what but in the end they are still people like us. They still have lives, they have children and families. AND THEY MAKE MISTAKES...I believe that half the problems out there with these people are they DON'T HAVE A LIFE...so they got to LIVE in someone elses. Think about it...I mean...god created everyone of us equal...red, yellow, black and white.....they are precious in his sight...HE FORGIVES....we are all the same....THEY HAVE TALENTS....ITS NOT A JOB...YES....they do get paid for it....but its a GOD GIVEN TALENT. You would not want your son or daughter exposed like this. We live for these types of things because we are not perfect no one is. And I wouldn't give them the time of day...why not ask them for a photo? Intead of invading them and their lives. Its a shame that they can't leave them alone. That they follow them all around...what happen to the stalking part of the law...the harrasment part of the law? Film good stuff take good pictures there is enough bad in this world...what happen to thinking about the children with cancer...film them for money help benifit a cure...do good with your so called talent of photography. Take pictures of homeless...sell those photo's.....I believe that if they take a picture it should not be sold for a millon or so dollars...there should be a limit of how much they can sell them for. ALL THEY DO IS STALK.....ITS HORRIBLE.....GET OUT OF THEIR FACES...THEY ARE PEOPLE.....NOT A PRODUCT....NOT MERCHANDICE.....TREAT THEM LIKE PEOPLE.
I with that they would see what they do to people. What they cause people to do. Heck yea if I was a celeb I would kick someone where it counts....I would take that camera shove it in there face...throw it on the ground step, stomp all over it and tell them to go get a life not mine. There should be a law there should be some guide lines, and things in place to stop this. To stop this maddness of these people.
I feel sad for the celebs and what they go through.
And child in their arms and they are snapping pictures...those children don't have voices to say weather they want their picture taken. ITS SAD.....VERY VERY SAD.....God help Britt....and all the others that are struggling with this....help her get control of her life and get back to where she use to be. LET HER HAVE A LIFE...YOU ARE ALL APART OF HER DOWN FALL...........................
Please BACK off them......SEE WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO THESE PEOPLE.....
LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE NOT SOMEONE ELSES.....

The paparazzi need to back off the celebraties

I don't believe we the average person is at fault for the paparazzi shots... I don't want to support the paparazzi or the photos they take, but it's hard to escape it when the photos are in Time and People magazines. It's hard to run away from them when they're on my cities 5'oclock news. Paparazzi are on CNN MSNBC and FOXNEWS. These photos are forced in our face and in our life.

Quote From: lashru

First: nothing at all to say in support of paparazzi.  They are leeches who have clearly contributed to much unhappiness for people in the news, they have doubtless contributed to celebrity suicides and self-destruction, and they are now clearly endangering public and private safety by things like interfering with a celebrity's right to drive on the public roads.

However.

Mr. Simmon's threat that if a paparazzi came near his kids, he would "set your pets on fire," is atrocious, even if he never has the capacity to carry out the threat.  Mr. Simmons, do you honestly believe it's right or fair for  you to torture and kill a small helpless animal in retaliation for someone's approaching your children?  Do you believe that's a healthy response?  How about "I will set YOU on fire"... this at least puts the punishment where the blame lies.

You have sought and embraced your celebrity with gusto, so now you have a responsibility to not put ideas like this in the minds of your fans.  If you don't want those fans, drop out of the very public life you lead.  Otherwise, accept the responsibility that comes with your fame and fortune (let us not forget your fortune), and don't suggest to your fans that a reasonable response to a threat to your family is to find the threat's helpless and utterly innocent, completely dependent, pet and set it on fire.

I've watched you on the Celebrity Apprentice, and I've been entertained by your music; your bombast has been amusing until now.  Now you're just vile and offensive, and a very real threat to me and my pets - not because i'm a paparazzi (I'm not, I'm just a housewife), but because some moron fan of yours now has the idea in his head that it's "cool" to set animals on fire in retaliation for whatever offense I might give him.

Shame on you.

I was plesantly suprised to read your message. It's just what I logged on to say and you said it beautifully!  I couldn't agree more.  I don't buy or read those trashy papers either. And burning pets! What kind of twisted mind would even think such a thing? It was a despicable, asinine statement.   Real classy! And what's with those ridiculous sunglasses???  If he doesn't have eye problems he has extemely bad manners. I don't understand why Dr Phil would even have him on the show much less actually airing his offensive statement.

Tarketing the Paparazzi

Gene Simmons is a has been and as long as it isn't his children all is fair. How pompous can

you be! Personally,  I don't care what any of you do. The magazines and newspaper at the

checkouts in the supermarkets don't interest me...they're there to stare at until it's my turn.

But I do feel that if the famous aren't payed attention to, they'll have breakdowns. They need

pictures to show off there capped teeth, bot ox, face lifts and whatever else they can do.

The real actors and actress's from days of old that had grace and dignity are all gone. This

is what we're left with. How sad.

Gene?...

Dr. Phil, what Gene said angered me. First of all, as a sixteen year old female, I strongly resent his comment that only women buy those magazines. He also seemed to mean ALL women. It was a little insulting to me and other women, and some of his other comments seemed male chauvinistic (chauvinism means bias to any group of people, not simply women. I'm only pointing this out because it's so often misused). He said he does not hate women, but some of the offensive generalizations he used suggest he does not see women as equals. As for the paparazzi issue, Dr. Phil, I know that you realize 90% of us don't care about these celebrities. In my age group, where people assume teenagers are the ones obsessing about celebrities... no. We really don't care. We only look at that material to make fun of how people's lives are falling apart and how stupid these people are. (Not me, but every time I see someone reading about a famous person, they look at the article for less than ten seconds before losing interest.) I think they really need to stop stalking these people. Also, I think that some celebrities inflame the situation and others pay for it. ::sigh::   Privacy needs to be repected, no matter what your social status or situation.

Yes, I know I had a lot to say... :D

Dog Poop shot

Okay, I am a little offended by the remark made by Brandy Navarre, "I don't find it interesting, but apparently the rest of America does."  Please, I don't really sit around all day waiting to see shots of overpayed actors/actresses picking up after their dogs.  The paparazzi is getting out of hand.  I do understand that the public is interested in celebrities, but a line needs to be drawn.  I don't need to see pictures of people walking to their car from Starbuck's.
