How would you feel if an airline banned you for how you looked? According to two young women, they’ve been banned for life from flying Southwest Airlines. Sarah and Nisreen made national news when they were escorted off a plane because they say the airline had a problem with them because they were “young and decent-looking” and their flight attendants were “middle-aged.” Southwest denies treating the women unfairly because of their appearance and says the women used vulgar language, obscene gestures and aggressive behavior. Joining the conversation is Kyla, who says she was told by Southwest that her outfit was too skimpy, and two other passengers who say the airline booted them because they were women. Then, McKay is a 15-year-old on a mission to end cussing. He founded a No Cussing Club at his high school and wants to inspire others to stop swearing and examine the power of words. McKay’s campaign has even motivated his mayor to pass a proclamation for a No Cussing Week in his hometown. Don’t miss reactions from the teen’s family and classmates! If it’s happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

03/14 Dr. Phil Now: Fly Girls

I don't know how much of these girls story I believe, they seem like spoiled rotten brats and I can easily see them having bad attitudes and wanting their way.  But saying that I was discriminated against by Southwest airlines back in 2003.  I am disabled and they would not let me go to the front of the line, I had to carry a very heavy suitcase all through the line and by the time I got up to the check in counter I was in tears because I was in so much pain.  I have had 10 back surgeries, four of which were spinal fusions, I also have drop foot in both of my feet.  The lady that told me I couldn't go to the front of the line was very rude to me and I had to all I could not to cry in front of everyone.  I have never flown Southwest since 2003.  I have flown many other airlines and not one of them ever questioned me about being disabled, you can tell by the way I walk I am disabled, only Southwest said I was lying because I wasn't in a wheelchair or walking with a cane.  I am flying Southwest on March 29th, I made sure they knew that I am disabled, lets hope they don't discriminate against me again.  The only reason I am flying on them again is because of the cost, but I always look for a cheaper flight with other airlines first and usually find them.  I do believe Southwest lies to protect their employees, they just think their employees are perfect and none of their employees will ever discriminate against anyone, but they are wrong.  I reported Southwest to the FAA back in 2003 and I got a letter from Southwest not appologizing but telling me that none of their employees would ever do what I said they did to passengers.  My exhuband took me to the airport and he saw the whole thing happen, so did people in line.  LIke I said I do not know if I believe these girls but I do believe Southwest will lie to cover for their employees actions.

Selfish brats

I can't believe these whiny, self-absorbed brats are getting so much attention.  After what happened on 9/11, I am all for whatever measures airlines have to take to make flights as safe as possible.  Obviously rules and regulations have tightened up in recent years, and I, for one, am more than happy to comply .  What is wrong with people these days that they behave like idiots then take absolutely no responsiblity for their actions?  Those girls had no regard for anyone but themselves.

It happens more than you know

I was on a Southwest flight back in 1999 heading to Las Vegas for a work trade show. We were with a large group and one of the women who worked with me at the time was slightly intoxicated. She has always been an outgoing girl with a larger than life personality. While she sat at the front of the plane I sat at the back in the seats that used to face eachother.

I was sitting with one coworker and a family. I had not had anything to drink. When I ordered a bloody mary I was told by the flight attendant that "I was cut off because I was loud and obnoxious and offensive" this was obviously highly embarrassing with my boss within earshot of the conversation.

Being that I can survive an hour flight without alcohol I dismissed it along with the attitude. When the seatbelt sign was turned off I got up to use the restroom and was told by this same flight attendant to "sit down now" in a very loud voice again.

I had ordered a virgin bloody mary because I like tomato juice and when it came I jokingly said, "wow, I must have been really obnoxious because I have been cut off of spices in my bloody mary" The family and I laughed because I was joking and making light of the situation.

When we landed there were police waiting for me. It took 8 other passengers on the plane including the family travelling with two small children to convince the police that i had not threatened the flight attendant.

They were going to arrest me. I too was told that I would be banned from all Southwest flights. I almost lost my job over this incident.

When I flew back with Southwest I had the same crew and one of the other flight attendants recognized me came over and said I am really sorry what happened to you the other day, and called the other flight attendant a derogatory term referring to a female dog.

I do not and will not fly Southwest Airlines and I fly over 75 times per year.

Yeah, but I've flown with them many times, and they don't kick loud obnoxious cursing demanding men OR screaming kids off, so some flight attendant was abusing this federal law power they airlines were bestowed in the past few years.  There's ALWAYS totally out of control groups of guys going to games on flights I'm on, and at least one screaming kid they don't bounce off -- and I wish they would, frankly.

This is a matter of civil liberties. Being rude, annoying and obnoxious is NOT illegal. In my work with the public I have encountered many rude and just plain mean customers; but I dont call the police and FBI and have them arrested. I think a little sensitivity training like maybe a Dealing With Angry Customers seminar could have diffused the situation before it escalated so far.

The women are young and not the most articulate about defending their position. They are also not very good at presenting themselves in a sympathetic light that people want to agree with. They don't make it easy. Nevertheless, they were more "intimidate-able" than their male counterpart, who was not even interviewed. It doesnt seem that they were treated equally. Dr Phil, you must realize that you are an imposing figure whom service providers are unlikely to challenge in this type of situation even before you were famous . Think of it from the girls' point of view.

I absolutely disagree.  The man apparently didn't call attention to himself but those girls did.  Instead of heeding a warning, they kept on and escalated the situation beyond the point of no return.

I forgot to add to my story that the woman I worked with was served 5 more cocktails while on that flight while I was "cut off" even though I hadn't drank and couldn't even walk when we got off of the airplane.

Southwest Airlines

southwest airlines does discriminate.  My son and I are both overweight but we fit in the seats.  Not one but more than one  person came to us and told us that if we did not fit in the seat we would have to buy an additional seat.  We told them that we had flown  sw recently and we fit in the seats.  The airflight attendant was rude to us, one of them gave my granddaughter an apple juice so when they came around with drinks much later they told my granddaughter (3) that she could not have another one since she just had one.  We would never fly sw again!!  I wish i could contact the girls i sure would give information to the girls attorneys.

If the skirt was too short for an airline then that racy photo was a bit much for a talk show.  Maybe it was to promote her new career.

Is she a spokesperson for Southwest now?  Did she get a huge settlement from them?  She does not want to be "lumped in" with these money suckers?  Is this the pot calling the kettle black?  THEY just want their 15 minutes?  Her "15 Minutes" has turned into an hour.
