How would you feel if an airline banned you for how you looked? According to two young women, they’ve been banned for life from flying Southwest Airlines. Sarah and Nisreen made national news when they were escorted off a plane because they say the airline had a problem with them because they were “young and decent-looking” and their flight attendants were “middle-aged.” Southwest denies treating the women unfairly because of their appearance and says the women used vulgar language, obscene gestures and aggressive behavior. Joining the conversation is Kyla, who says she was told by Southwest that her outfit was too skimpy, and two other passengers who say the airline booted them because they were women. Then, McKay is a 15-year-old on a mission to end cussing. He founded a No Cussing Club at his high school and wants to inspire others to stop swearing and examine the power of words. McKay’s campaign has even motivated his mayor to pass a proclamation for a No Cussing Week in his hometown. Don’t miss reactions from the teen’s family and classmates! If it’s happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

I didn't know that the word "butt" fell into the definition of foul language.....LOL! I think the F-bomb as you put it is on a whole different level than that. If I say the word "Boob" are you going to call me a hypocrite for that also?
"Foul Language" is a SUBJECTIVE term.

That's the point I guess I wanted to make also but you phrased it better than I. I'm afraid the days of empathy, compassion, and unselfishness are behind us. What a sad thought. I wish for a better society in which to live but with above stated behavior in such a poor state I don't see it happening anytime soon. I think it's downhill from here. By the way my name is Julie also. Nickname is Jewels. We live in a world where meth is an epidemic, kids wear their pants around their knees, both young men and young women call everyone "Dude" no matter what their gender, being rude is a way of life, road rage, it's ridiculous. You want to know what really gets me? When I walk into a mini-mart for instance and as soon as I open the door a man will walk through acting like I opened it for him. Yes, I do open doors for others as a kindness, male & female but I don't think that a man should just assume that I opened it for him. Actually they know I didn't but just don't care. Hope to hear from you, Julie
You think that because people occasionally use words you PERSONALLY find offensive that suddenly the "days of" all those things are gone?

Too bad it's not the good ol' days when people spoke properly, but OWNED SLAVES...geeze...

And you are putting meth use and baggy pants in the same worrisome sting of horrors? LOL! And women who call other women "dude"...that BOTHERS you? LOL!

I'm a tame, calm, and peaceful stay at home mom and I call everyone "dude"...what is wrong with THAT?!

I couldn't have said it better than that. People say that words are just words and how and when we use them doesn't matter but just take a look at the debate that is still raging over this. Mainly most of us against one other person. Words do matter or we wouldn't care so deeply about it. When we choose to use foul language it diminishes us and when the day comes where nobody cares what words are spoken it will diminish the world in which we live. Don't we all have enough problems without purposely choosing to add to them by behaving disrespectful to or around others?! On todays show a father is teaching his 3 year to call her mom a c#$!  Is that what Freedom of Speech represents? I don't think so and I think most other people will agree. I certainly hope so.
"Foul Language" is SUBJECTIVE...something YOU find foul other people may not. Something you find NOT to be foul others may find it to be.

I have a friend who is in medical school who finds the word "breast" offensive....she really does. She's having a hard time dealing with the fact that she needs to say that word, write that word...

You mention that you go to class, well I forgive you then. When I was in 2nd grade I didn't realize the importance of my actions either. And what's with the LOL thing? Can't you post just one quote without it? I am really getting worried about the day when I am a senior citizen and the country in which I live and whose hands my life will given to govern fall to a generation of people like you. I can just see the Senate now, throwing F-bombs, Congress MF-ing each other, and the State of the Union Speech will start with "Well F&*#, this country is going to the dogs and I don't know why!". That would sound sooooo cool coming from our esteemed President now wouldn't it? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since when did having class become quaint?
When did I say I go to class?  What are you talking about?

I like the "LOL"...I use it when something makes me LAUGH...it's a very common thing to say online however YOU are taking issue with it here. Why? Because you don't like my opinions? Please, let's not act like brats.

I thought we were having a nice debate here, civilized. Yeah, we don't agree, but now you are just getting to be rude.

Square and I don't agree, but we are being POLITE to each other. You put more importance on cuss words than actually being polite.

I mean, it's one thing to debate, but now you are just being rude.

Well there you go Penny.  We have found a common ground on this board.  Intent and cruelty of words have power.  We do give them power.  The most powerful words are probably those that we talk to ourselves with.  We can destroy or build up ourselves too.  Then we have nothing to offer anyone else because we speak so badly to ourselves.

It is amazing to me that some people can let negative words roll off their back.  I take them to heart.  I try really hard to see myself through the eyes of those who love me rather than those who don't.  That helps me clean up the negative dialog in my head.
Thank you for being polite and respectful doing our debate. I wish others would be that way. I think that being respectful and polite is a lot more important that using or not using a swear word.

Again, thank you.

You are losing me Penny.

Foul language is called "foul language" because it is foul.

Thus my use of quotation marks.

What you call foul others will not. What others call foul you will not.

It's subjective.

I thought they were just words................ scratch my head?!  I'm not a rude person at all, what you stand for is rude. It's rude to not take into consideration the people around you when you decide to cuss like a sailer just because you happen to like those words. You just don't get it. I'm also not acting like a brat, it seems like I hit a nerve with you and that is why you have taken such offense. I'm just going by your "it's only words" philosophy. What, now you want to divide up what is acceptable and what is not? A little hypocritical don't you think? I must have mixed you up with someone else about the going to class thing so I will apologize for that.

She's in medical school? It's a medical term! It's anatomy! Boy, that I really don't understand. You made me crack up over that one. I could maybe see a young  (very young) male med student being uncomfortable or giggling over a woman's "booby", I'm still laughing so hard that I can't think straight, but a female med student? I would love to listen to the conversations between the two of you! Thanks for the laugh, I needed it!
