How would you feel if an airline banned you for how you looked? According to two young women, they’ve been banned for life from flying Southwest Airlines. Sarah and Nisreen made national news when they were escorted off a plane because they say the airline had a problem with them because they were “young and decent-looking” and their flight attendants were “middle-aged.” Southwest denies treating the women unfairly because of their appearance and says the women used vulgar language, obscene gestures and aggressive behavior. Joining the conversation is Kyla, who says she was told by Southwest that her outfit was too skimpy, and two other passengers who say the airline booted them because they were women. Then, McKay is a 15-year-old on a mission to end cussing. He founded a No Cussing Club at his high school and wants to inspire others to stop swearing and examine the power of words. McKay’s campaign has even motivated his mayor to pass a proclamation for a No Cussing Week in his hometown. Don’t miss reactions from the teen’s family and classmates! If it’s happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

teaching of good values starts in the home

Quote From: bcstjiklmom

I think in todays society we are not taught enough about respect. Respecting one anothers space and air. Its not whether or not we swear its the fact that we do not respect the other people around us not to pay attention to our mouthsand respect that people do not see us as we ourselves see us. I live in a world of younger generational types around all the time and trust me if they say the "F" word once they say it a thousand times. It is such a shame that they have not been taught respect, honor, and morals. Some but not all of the younger generation that I have seen have been taught how to take and only to give if it suits their wants. I say shame on some of the parents that have raised their children to be such morons and truly some of the most disrespectful people in society. I like to blame the parents for this simply because I see it all the time, how do you let your  children treat you??? If your children behave badly at home what makes you think that in a public arena they would be any different. The girls from the plane may be a prime example....

I believe that teaching our children good values starts in the home.  Parents should try to give their children the best  foundation they can in values, morals, how to treat others etc. And they need to lead by example.

I have to point out though that when peer pressure kicks in, alot of kids (even ones whose parents did the best to teach them well) have difficulty resisting it. I am not making excuses for these kids.  Parents should try to teach their children that their peers' judgement may not always be the best and that they need to resist engaging in activites/behavior they know is wrong. Hopefully that would be enough to set most kids off on the right path, though once they walk out the front door, it is up to them whether to resist or cave in.

Quote From: flico40

lets get real, if young girls dress sexy and use bad language try adjusting your own minds and not let these thingsd become so important i cant beleive that the airlines should have a right to turn anyone away because of hoe they are dressed and bad lasnquage is only words get over it and also is this really worthy of a tv show who cares?
You are ABSOLUTELY wrong! As if I am going to pay to listen to these idiots swear, and look at their a$$ hanging out. The sad thing is, is that they seem to think they are sooooo hot, yet so many women could smoke them out of the water at their own game. You sir, are the reason they are dressing like that to begin with...stop enabling/encouraging women to exploit themselves! Or do you enjoy that? I think YOU need to see Dr. Phil yourself!

So then why ????

Quote From: robinppool

I am a "middle-aged" flight attendant and there is NO way we would have a passenger removed for being "young & cute". It isn't that easy to have a passenger taken off a flight. Removing a passenger is a joint decision and includes the F/A's, the pilots, customer service, etc. While these girls may not have believed they were a physical threat to either themselves, other passengers or the crew, they may have behaved in a disruptive manner while boarding. Loud, disrepectful behavior does make flight attendants concerned. Remember we are responsible for ALL the passengers, in such an enclosed space as an aircraft we have to make a judgement call in just the time it takes to board. We don't know you, our decisions are not "personal". If it appears that you may disrupt the flight or interfere with our duties in any way, it is not only our right, but our responsibilty to have you removed for the safety of both passengers and crew. Most flight attendants are extremely professional. Our jobs and the health of our companies rely on passengers, we both need and want you to return to our airline. We all know airline service has changed over the years, but so has passenger behavior. We know you "paid" for your ticket, but that does not give you license to bad behavior. With the hundreds of thousands of people who fly everyday, I find it amusing that these women think that the flight attendants discriminated against them because of their looks. If that were true, I am sure there would be more than just these few with the same complaint. The majority of flight attendants are too busy to notice how you look, but we are trained to notice how you behave.
While I realize that you have a tough job I still don't like the fact that one flight attendant who THOUGHT it was me that said something (when she was totally mistaken on the flight out from Atlanta) and cause me time and money without hearing one word from me.  The higherups listened to her and her alone and told me to shut the F up.  And even if I HAD made a joke about a plane being a "puddle jumper" it WAS one and that is a common term used, then why kick me off and then allow me to fly at all?  She claimed that a young child had heard the comment and had gotten scared - well the only young child sitting on the whole flight was less than a year old - so that kid really understood what was meant by a puddle jumper?  Yeah give me a break.

But I hope these girls got their comeuppance from the audicence as well as Dr Phil - I can just hear him saing "are you KIDDING me?" lol   They as well as Kyla need to go back under their rocks and not come out again

Get over yourselves!

I'm an attractive twenty something and I know they did not get kicked off of Southwest because of their looks.  I have flown Southwest MANY times in my life and never have been kicked off because of my looks, or for any other reason.  A group of my friends and I have flown for Spring-break, so we were ready to party, but contained our excitement until we were AT the PaRtY.  Then again we look hot with our clothes fitting proper and not revealing anything our parent's would not want seen.  Some girls NEED the short skirt and shirts to get attention because they have nothing else to offer.  I pity them.  How sad is that?!  Its an esteem issue. :(

I've seen some parents freaking out over cussing on here and else where.  Seriously?!  I'm more concerned with parents out their using REAL cuss words in front of their children and mine.  Saying things like "O my G o d," or using Jesus' name in vain.  I would put huge money down those same parents would TRIP if I dropped an F bomb.  To me saying my lords name, or any other's god's name,  in vain is way worse then any slang.  I'm a mother of 7 year old twins and when I have them out in public they will occasionally hear someone swear and they are not damaged from it.  In fact my kids are a bit of the moral police and tell the person that they just used a potty word.  I cuss like a sailor when my children aren't around, as do my friends.  We are all educated but if we're playing cards or drinking we like to vent.  Our children aren't around, our words aren't' hurting each other or anyone else.  I don't go out in public and cuss, but I don't care if other's do.  They have freedom of speech and who am I, or anyone else, to censor their words?  A private business owner, such as Southwest, CAN.  A school CAN.  As for people walking down the street, no one has a say.  That would be a very scary road to go down.  Did everyone, against cussing, have a collective brain fart and forget WHY people wanted, and still want, to come to this country?  Have people forgot how fantastic it is that anyone may walk out into the street and say whatever they want to with out fear of the government?  I don't judge people by their speech, I just don't, it about the content of their speech not the words they use.

Then you have the girls dressing like street walkers, my daughter has, to women's faces, asked why they dress like a hoochie?  When they look at me in horror I just shrug.  I should tell her to stop it but it embarrasses me MUCH LESS then when she informs a woman that she has a mustache or is obese.  At least the women dressing like a "hoochie" (my daughter's word for them) are ASKING for the attention.  Maybe they only desire attraction- attention, they need to know how to take the negative.  I bet the girls my daughter has confronted think back that a little girls in pigtails recognizes they dress poorly.

What parents are failing to do right now is, MAKE LEMONADE!  For free, women and men right now are doing some of the most bone-head things for the world to see.  Gossip, we can teach our children how gossip hurts people!  With this instance, these girls are using gossip to try to tarnish the reputation of Southwest's employees. Vanity, um, Britney shaved her head and that was the best lesson for my daughter.  She saw it on the Today Show, which use to be safe for my kids to watch, and all she could say, "Mommy, that is a very sad girl, we should send her a card."  These girls have obviously never been sat down and taught anything about this.   Promiscuity, with how the girls on this show dress like, and Jamie Lynn Sprears and Vanessa Hudgens.  I only kept one of those things secret from my kids, and that's because I like watch HSM with them.  Sure I wanted to save most of these conversations for when they were 10ish, but due to our society they've had to learn life lessons early.  Instead of fighting what is on TV (I do block my children's TV), radio, school, and everywhere, I use it to teach my children's morals.  If I teach my children daily that God gave us free will and Jesus tells us how to apply his teachings, so why not use today's stories like I do with the Bible.  When Britney acts out, its a easier lesson for them to understand compared to Sodom and Gomorrah. In my heart, we are all Children of some God(s), and we should love and support one another.  Not judge.   I can only pray that this approach will help mold them into WISE teens and adults.

o, and yes I'd much rather my children cuss as teens and young adults if that was the worse they did!

03/14 Dr. Phil Now: Fly Girls

Quote From: thindi

Amen! Way to go McKay. I am so tired of a society where such poverty of thought exists. I can't see anything rated R anymore because I do not want to be assaulted by foul language. I know that some of the younger folks don't even hear it anymore. They don't realize that even if they don't think it is okay to swear the more they hear it, the more likely they will swear.
Garbage in, garbage out!
Let's join the campaign.. no more foul language!!!!!
Some PG-13 movies have the same foul language as R-rated. The words are the same, just not used as much. Wan't "Little Miss Sunshine" PG-13. My husband insisted on seeing it. Probably expecting it to a Shirley Temple type movie. But, for a movie about a little girl, it was the most vulgar I've ever seen.

Quote From: judyliz1956

Come on you must be kidding so what about down the beach and at the pool do you expect everyone to cover up head to foot
Sometimes, I see more clothes on the beach than i see on the street. Some bikini tops cover more of the breasts than the tank tops I see in grocery stores and at Wal-Mart.

Quote From: iamxrep

Enough already with these whiny little brats. I can't believe that Dr. Phil is actually bringing that snippy Kyla back on his show especially after the way she acted the last time she was on his show. And didn't she say that if she got an apology from Southwest that she would NEVER appear on another talk show?? And Dr. Phil is bringing her back on? To do what? Whine some more about how badly she was treated? Like I said before.......ENOUGH ALREADY!!  Bring on some people that actually have real problems. Girls, get a life why don't you?????
Anyone who would believe a word out of Kyla's mouth, I've got a bridge for sale. Connecting ocean front property in Nevade and Utah.

03/14 Dr. Phil Now: Fly Girls

Quote From: stratocumulus

This is so ridiculous that these girls are getting more attention for doing something that was offensive to the general public to begin with.  I love the Dr. Phil show and will continue to watch as always, (except this portion of the show)  but this is such a major waste of good television time.   These ladies deserve NO national attention for this and only promotes the whiney, pitch a fit for everything  to get as much attention as I can, even if I am the one who caused the problem attitude of younger people today. And I am a younger person!    We have soooo much going on in the world right now,  there has to be more interesting people to talk with.  These girls really need to find a hobby or something to give a self-esteem boost rather than a rush from sitting on a stage.   I am looking forward to seeing  McKay's story as it sounds like this is a person who is actually contributing to society in a positive way.

I agree with you. Sarah, Nisreen and Kyla are a HUGE waste of TV time.
There are real people, with real issues, needing Dr Phil's help. But, he's got to waste valuable, limited air-time on three air-headed DAW's?
Including additional time on super-DAW Kyla? And, didn't she promise to quit the talk show curcuit once South West's apologized?
The general consensus, on this board, is that these three need to get over themselves. But, how can they when Dr Phil keeps feeding their air time addiction.
Why not devote the who show to young people who actually deserve some attention? Such as the teen who's anti-cussing?

no pun intended

Quote From: caityjae

i was sort of sympathetic to kyla, until she did the play on words about whether she was going to sue southwest airlines for the way she was treated.  i don't agree with the way she was treated, but i also do not agree with the way she wanted the apology, took the tickets, and then when dr phil called her on the lawsuit thing, she gave the tickets back.  hope the virgin airlines doesn't regret giving her the free tickets.
No pun intended. I think this Kyla is just attention-seeking and looking for  more"air time" by continuing her  public whiney complaining. She wouldn't dress like that in the first place unless she desperately craved attention. Time for this little chickie to grow up.
