How would you feel if an airline banned you for how you looked? According to two young women, they’ve been banned for life from flying Southwest Airlines. Sarah and Nisreen made national news when they were escorted off a plane because they say the airline had a problem with them because they were “young and decent-looking” and their flight attendants were “middle-aged.” Southwest denies treating the women unfairly because of their appearance and says the women used vulgar language, obscene gestures and aggressive behavior. Joining the conversation is Kyla, who says she was told by Southwest that her outfit was too skimpy, and two other passengers who say the airline booted them because they were women. Then, McKay is a 15-year-old on a mission to end cussing. He founded a No Cussing Club at his high school and wants to inspire others to stop swearing and examine the power of words. McKay’s campaign has even motivated his mayor to pass a proclamation for a No Cussing Week in his hometown. Don’t miss reactions from the teen’s family and classmates! If it’s happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

Give Me a Break!

Hooters, then the incident with Southwest Airlines & then doing a spread in Playboy -- looks to me like things went pretty much as planned.

03/14 Dr. Phil Now: Fly Girls

Quote From: yuppiemom

These girls had an absolute right to wear the clothes they chose and board their flights.  Some of these flight attendants think they are gods and desperately need to be put in their place.

I am personally outraged at the flight attendant's behavior towards the mother and toddler.  I tell you what, that is one airline that I will NEVER fly.  That woman should be fired and lose any accreditation she may have as a flight attendant.

I disagree with Dr. Phil on one point.  These women have EVERY RIGHT to sue these airlines and I personally hope they do.  Not to cash in but to teach these airlines a lesson.  Maybe then the airlines will deal with their psychotic, power hungry flight attendants and develop rules to protect the traveler instead of their staff!

This had absolutely nothing at all to do with how they were dressed.  And yes a private business can ask someone to leave if their attire isn't appropriate.  Maybe airlines should carry "borrow pants" like some restaurants have "borrow jackets or ties".

About the toddler, I have twins who have been flying since they were under a year, so 7 years now and I guess my kids are freaks of nature.  They have never acted up on a plane and get really annoyed by the other kids who carry on.  I think if a parent can't control their child in public maybe flying isn't for them.  I know I don't pay money to have my back kicked and some kid crying the whole time.  No thank you.

Bottom Line....For Me At least...

I am a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines so I really felt compelled to share my thoughts.  I appreciate that most of you get where my company is coming from.  These girls were not removed from the plane because they were self proclaimed "cute".  Being disruptive and vulgar is a security issue for the crew and our other passengers.    That "tube" is our cubicle!    I understand that most customers fly us during their vacations, but use common sense when deciding what to wear or how to behave.  If you wouldn't wear it to your office, please, don't wear it to mine.

Fly Girls

Dr. Phil, I'm all for the airlines banning people that are not dressed appropriately for flying.  I am sick of looking at peoples exposed private parts.  People will treat you by how you are dressed as well as other things.  Don't dress like a call girl and then yell if someone takes you for how you are dressed.  Slacks or jeans are more appropriate for flying as you may have to jump down a shoot in an emergency.  People are stuck in close quarters for a period of time and you know they will be whispering or thinking nasty things about you if you are dressed inappropriately.  I guess that thrills some people, me it disgusts.

As for cursing, I always told my children that if you curse, it is because you aren't smart enough to think of something better to say.  To take God's name in vane is a mortal sin. You will get what you deserve.

A lot of people just don't care about being respected anymore.

I have flown with SouthWest many times now being a young mother of two small boys I have not always been treated with compassion as I would hope for but also on that same note.... My husband is a Unites States Airman and Security is a HUGEEEE thing in our family!!!!! So I  applaud those attendants that removed those foul and nasty girls that have no respect!! As a parent I would not want my children to hear such words or see such activity happen I am disgusted that those Girls seem to think it is ok to act they way they did!!  I hope the real world gives them the eye opener they need and look back on this and say "oh my I cant believe I acted that way im soooo embarrassed!" but we know itll never happen as sad as it is so WAY TO GO SOUTHWEST!!!! Now create flights more kid friendly so when we are flying for 25 hours straight from overseas and tired as ever we dont have rude passengers next to us telling us to hush up our boys !!! or the carseat has to be approved by the pilot when we are vertans at this flying game!!!!if they had been flying for that long stuck in a car seat theyd be the same way!!!!!

That was NOT an apology by Southwest

Quote From: caityjae

i was sort of sympathetic to kyla, until she did the play on words about whether she was going to sue southwest airlines for the way she was treated.  i don't agree with the way she was treated, but i also do not agree with the way she wanted the apology, took the tickets, and then when dr phil called her on the lawsuit thing, she gave the tickets back.  hope the virgin airlines doesn't regret giving her the free tickets.

First, Kyla is contolled by an attorney, so no matter what she says, the attorney is going to persuade her to go forward to protect others' rights.  As for me, that was NOT an apology. That was a canned response for anyone who has had a problem with Southwest. For this incident, and the others like these, the CEO should be there in person to make a statement. This would send a message to all Southwest employees, because he will ensure that he NEVER has to do this again. There would be many seminars at Southwest to ensure this, as "heads would roll" if this happens again.

Let's see a real, sincere apology!!

Kyla

Why did Kyla dress like a nun on the show tonight instead of wearing her 'airline dress?

If my grandmother was on that flight she would have grabbed ahold of Kyla's ear and escorted her off the plane and told her to get dressed before coming back.

So Kyla and her attorney are suing the airline so NO ONE else gets treated like she did?  Give me a break will you. All she and he wants are a few million dollars like all the other "bloodsuckers" in America.

SHEESH!!!

Well, I'd hope your grandmother would then go to jail for assault...my god lady.

self-entitled Sarah

Just from watching Sarah it is obvious that she is a self-entitled brat.  She talked over people, interrupted, as she flipped her hair and stuck her nose in the air and acted like nothing anyone else had to say was important.  She has "self-entitlement" written all over her face as does her useless sidekick. I have no doubt that they acted like spoiled brats and kicked into a tantrum  when someone else inconvenienced their "oh so pretty" little selves by taking too long in the lavatory.

Sarah, this may come as a surprise to you and your friend but NEWSFLASH!!! You do not have more rights than other people and you are not "entitled' to behave obnoxiously if you don't get your way.  Tantrums are for two-year-olds, not for alledgedly grown women. Being able to fly somewhere should not be a "given'.  if you can't behave like a respectable human being then you should lose your priviledge to fly.

Get over yourselves and grow up!
