How would you feel if an airline banned you for how you looked? According to two young women, they’ve been banned for life from flying Southwest Airlines. Sarah and Nisreen made national news when they were escorted off a plane because they say the airline had a problem with them because they were “young and decent-looking” and their flight attendants were “middle-aged.” Southwest denies treating the women unfairly because of their appearance and says the women used vulgar language, obscene gestures and aggressive behavior. Joining the conversation is Kyla, who says she was told by Southwest that her outfit was too skimpy, and two other passengers who say the airline booted them because they were women. Then, McKay is a 15-year-old on a mission to end cussing. He founded a No Cussing Club at his high school and wants to inspire others to stop swearing and examine the power of words. McKay’s campaign has even motivated his mayor to pass a proclamation for a No Cussing Week in his hometown. Don’t miss reactions from the teen’s family and classmates! If it’s happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

03/14 Dr. Phil Now: Fly Girls

Quote From: nails2feet

Way to go McKay!!!!!.  It is about time that someone spoke out about cussing, and I'm glad it is coming from a teenager.  I'm sick and tired of people using the "f" word, in particular, as every part of speech.  Just on the news the other day, statics on cuss words in movies showed  that sales for movies without cuss words have grossed higher sales than movies with cuss words.

I am very offended when people cuss in public especially the 'f'word.  Now, it seems that females use the "f"word  more than men and it is very degrading and very desrespecful..  I feel like asking them if they eat with the same mouth.
Why is it less ok for a woman to use the F-word than a man? I don't get it.

well well well

I almost think that it does have something to do with women. Just 2 weeks ago, i had to go pick up a male passenger from a southwest flight and when he arrived he was so drunk. He had to hold on to a lady to walk. Than it just got worse from there.

I will leave out all the details. I just do not know how any airline could let someone that drunk on the plane and continue to serve him. He was a touchy man and said sweetheart  every time he talked.

I had to have my husband meet me 5 miles from the airport. I could not stand him.

I have never been on a southwest flight. Not sure if I ever will.

Come on people!!

Quote From: xxevilangelxx

First off, I commend this young man for standing up for what he believes is right. On the other hand I do not believe there should be a "Cuss Free week." What if we did have this cuss free week? What would happen to people that would curse? Nothing? Would they be reprimanded in some way? I see the point of making it an awareness but I feel that it is a futile effort.

I myself curse like a sailor, I curse constantly and mostly not even knowing it. But to me when I curse to myself, the curse means nothing. Unless I am cursing at some particular individual, I do not feel people  have the right to impose not cursing on me. If these people that over hear cursing are offended maybe they should start by minding there own business. Why are these people offended by a coversation that is not even directed towards them?

I think the view that people who curse sound like "uneducated morons"  (like some people have already posted) I think that THEY themselves are uneducated. To sit there and say that is to contradict yourself. I bet on everything I own that even the pope has cursed in some way, shape, or fashion. So in saying that, you are basically calling yourselves uneducated morons. You curse just like everyone else has. And to say differently is a down right lie.

Even using these "transition words" as the boy said are basically used in the same context. So whether the word is F*&! or fudge it makes no difference. You are using them in the same context as you would a curse and there for these "transition words" should also be considered curses.

So since I curse I guess this whole post must sound like it is uneducated... HAHA don't make me laugh...If you don't want to  hear cursing just become a nun or a priest. Or better yet, move to a place where no one lives and just seclude yourself from people and the media, this way, you will not be offended by other peoples' language.

*rolls eyes*

I’m 34 years old and I admire the courageous young man that started the “No Cussing” Club. What a mature and intelligent 15 year old!!

And to all of the people that say “You’re infringing on my right to free speech”;  Nobody’s trying to take your  rights away. The young man is simply asking you.

I curse too!! Too much if you ask me. I try not to when possible. I understand why people curse when they’re  pissed off.  But  cursing should be reserved for “special times” like that J.

Casual cursing sounds so unintelligent. Get someone to record you when you’re not expecting it. Then play it back and you’ll see what I mean. Very embarrassing and low class.

Most people don’t want to hear fowl language in public. Why is it so hard for us to be polite to eachother?

Everyone is so concerned with his or her right to everything! What ever happened to considering other people’s feelings?

I don’t know about you, but I want to live in a world where I’m treated with kindness and respect. And  in order to get that I have to treat others the same way.

As an airline employee.....

As an airline employee there is so much responsibility put on our shoulders with little support. The reason these ladies were pulled off the flights were for the safety and security of the rest of the passengers. Flying for most people is a very stressful thing. The way people are dressed and their actions can make many people uncomfortable and it is the job of the airline employee to look out for the WHOLE NOT THE ONE. It is unsafe to take someone 30,000 feet in the air, in an enclosed space when they are intoxicated. It is also a federal offense not to adhere to the instruction and directions of the flight attendants as they are there solely for there safety and comfort of the passengers. While not everyone is pleasant in any job there is so much more to an airline job then free flight benefits. Safety, Security and Comfort remember thats is what is important.

My little brothers and I call each other "bitch" when we call each other. If I see they are calling I answer "What's up bitch?" They do the same to me.

That is how we show kindness and respect, believe that or don't. That's ok, to each his own right?  I really like that, it's funny, it's an inside joke, I feel comfortable and loved this way.

If one of us does something silly or jokingly obnoxious to the other we say "F*** You!" It's funny. It doesn't offend us, so it has nothing to do with being "polite" for some people.

Southwest has a problem

I have flown Southwest countless times over the years.  In the past, they have been delightful regardless of their job descriptions, circumstances etc.  In the last 3-4 years their flight attendants, especially, have become surly, snippy, rude, terse, unhelpful etc. etc.  This has not been universal, certainly, but it's enough of a problem that I fly Southwest less and less and dread it when I do go on their flights.  I have no doubt Dr. Phil has had no such problem, ever; he's Dr. Phil, in the first place and male in the second.  It has been my experience and observation that the flight attendants, even the men, are worse to the femaie passengers than the males.  For the record, I am not a teeny-bopper I am a 52 year old mother of 4 grown children and soon to be a grandmother.  I have come to dislike Southwest intensely because of this trend.

Girls Gone Wild Culture

Quote From: armidao

I'm not saying that these things did not happen to these girls, but I have traveled numerous times from Las Vegas, NV. and back and have seen, teens and women with hardly anything on fly out of and into Las Vegas, and have not seen them treated any differently.  There have even been Stripperscoming in to work for the weekend or leaving and are barely dressed, and I have never seen an attendant treat them any different.  On the other hand I have seen some barely dressed teens and women, enibriated and making an ass of themselves, and have heard the flight attendants ask them to "please tone it down:, or "clean up their language", or "their are xhildren on this flight".  I've even seen these enibriated girls go as far as trying to get elderly mens attention, and then when they do they would start flashing thier boobs and then laugh and say "don't you wish you can touch these or suck on these", sit with their mini skirts on and have thier legs wide open. I could go on but I will stop with those two incidents.   I've never heard a flight attendant be rude, but who's to say they are not out there.   I'm sure there are plenty, but I have yet to experience it.  But like I said in the beginning I'm not say that these things did not happen to these girls.

I believe we are living in a girls gone-wild culture.  From the fallen girlie-celebrities in the tabloids to the girls who post drunken pictures of themselves on their MySpace pages, we are beseiged by scores of young women so hungry for attention it is damaging the culture and making it very difficult to raise our daughters.  I am female and I could not believe I would agree with Mr. Simmons (formerly of the rock group KISS) who was on your show earlier this week about paparazzi laws in California when he said that women are largely to blame for the commercial peddaling of gossip and bad behavior of the kind provided in the tabloid media at supermarket checkouts were most women like to browse.  I believe these young women nursing their public beef with Southwest Airlines are part of a growing band wagon of selfish, spoiled young women longing for their 15 minutesof fame in that every same tabloid media.  Already one of the young women from the SW Airlines dispute got an offer from Playboy to do a spread.  The two other young women on your show today are probably looking for similar offers.  They were not being forthcoming with Dr. Phil at all (I can tell, and I'm not even a psychiatrist).  On a personal note, I remember taking a fight to California from Florida (before 911).  It was a morning flight on which beverages such as tea, coffee, orange juice or sodas would normally be served.  Some young women on the flight sitting a couple of rows behind me were acting rowdy from the moment they boarded.  They became irate when they ordered alcholic beverages and were told they would not be served alcohol.   I believe the young women were already drunk.  Had it been post-911, I believe these young women would have been escorted off the plane the way things are done today.  As it was, the passengers had to put up wth their rudeness until the plane'snext stop.  This bad-girl culture needs to be seen for what it is before more up and coming young women buy into the illusion that it's OK.  It's not OK.   Young women need to be level headed and intelligent to protect themselves.  As the nightly news will tell us often, young women are so vulnerable, they are more likely to be the victims of violence or those who go missing from after-hours bars and nightclubs.  Get real, girls.  15 minutes of fame is not worth all this hassle.
