How would you feel if an airline banned you for how you looked? According to two young women, they’ve been banned for life from flying Southwest Airlines. Sarah and Nisreen made national news when they were escorted off a plane because they say the airline had a problem with them because they were “young and decent-looking” and their flight attendants were “middle-aged.” Southwest denies treating the women unfairly because of their appearance and says the women used vulgar language, obscene gestures and aggressive behavior. Joining the conversation is Kyla, who says she was told by Southwest that her outfit was too skimpy, and two other passengers who say the airline booted them because they were women. Then, McKay is a 15-year-old on a mission to end cussing. He founded a No Cussing Club at his high school and wants to inspire others to stop swearing and examine the power of words. McKay’s campaign has even motivated his mayor to pass a proclamation for a No Cussing Week in his hometown. Don’t miss reactions from the teen’s family and classmates! If it’s happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now! Join the discussion.

03/14 Dr. Phil Now: Fly Girls

Quote From: jmg074

Im 34 years old and I admire the courageous young man that started the No Cussing Club. What a mature and intelligent 15 year old!!

And to all of the people that say Youre infringing on my right to free speech;  Nobodys trying to take your  rights away. The young man is simply asking you.

I curse too!! Too much if you ask me. I try not to when possible. I understand why people curse when theyre  pissed off.  But  cursing should be reserved for special times like that J.

Casual cursing sounds so unintelligent. Get someone to record you when youre not expecting it. Then play it back and youll see what I mean. Very embarrassing and low class.

Most people dont want to hear fowl language in public. Why is it so hard for us to be polite to eachother?

Everyone is so concerned with his or her right to everything! What ever happened to considering other peoples feelings?

I dont know about you, but I want to live in a world where Im treated with kindness and respect. And  in order to get that I have to treat others the same way.

I agree with you. I use to swear a lot and don't often anymore. My husband came from a family where they did not swear. I think I've heard him say "sh%# about 2 times in 30 years.

I also drive a school bus, and I get really tired of the f bomb all the time. It is offensive to me, and I shouldn't have to listen to it. That should be my right.

Dr PHil...most schools don't care if kids swear, particularly at high school level. It is the least of their problems. If I wrote up a kid for swearing most principals would find it a waste of their time and be irritated with me.

My friend grew up in Texas and can't believe the kids here. Perhaps it is in part a geographic difference.

Enough of these sue-happy people looking for money and attention!

The  young ladies on the show today were so obviously minimizing their behavior and I think they got what they deserved.   They even acted like spoiled brats towards Dr. Phil whenever he brought up a valid point against them.   People need to realize that we live in a post 9/11 world and the flight attendants can't be too careful when these type of situations arise (and no, I'm not talking about the one girls race).  They are just mad because their plan to get some attention backfired and everyone can see through them.

As for the older ladies, if you watch the show "Airline" (that follows Southwest Airline passengers around), you'll see that a A LOT of women AND MEN get refused to fly because of being loud and smelling of alcohol.  Their story is not unique and they are absurd to think it's because they are women...HAAA!

*these 4 ladies need to get a life and worry about real issues....what makes them think they deserve anything if even an apology is just ridiculous!!  There are too many spoiled ,self-centered people in this world...it would be so refreshing to see something different for once! *

Fly Girls - airlines have rights

Quote From: ttcjoytj

I would think this airline would have more to worry about then someone who might be dressed a little skimppy. Not only that, thier grownups. Thier old enough to know what to wear. It's not likely that I will ever fly with Southwest. I don't really agree with women wearing skirts that show thier crotch or tops that expose the majority of thier  breast. But it is NOT the airlines job to tell them so. Not only that, from my understanding Southwest doesn't have a dress code for passengers. They don't need the bad press.

TC

It might not be the airlines "job" to tell passengers not to expose their private parts or use foul language (that's clearly something the passenger never learned from his or her parents), but it is their right. Business owners have the right to refuse service to you for your appearance, language, or other reasons. Airlines are no exception!

I Couldn't Agree More

Quote From: caroneko

I'm a woman, and I'm constantly apalled at my gender's behaviour.  I've worked in customer service all my life, and I can't help but notice how many women, as opposed to men, are self-righteous loudmouths who think the world should get on its knees in front of them.

As I watch this show, I can't help but think of Gene's words from the tabloid episode: women are the problem!  Women buy into gossip and tabloids, and they also think they should get anything their prissy little hearts desire.

The women on the show are morons who can't keep their stories straight.  I wish Dr.Phil had just laid into them and destroyed them.
I got angry while watching this show and just wanted someone, anyone to tell these girls to be quiet because they couldn't keep up with what was coming out of their mouths. I could understand and maybe be more sympathetic with them, but they made they only made their problems worse.

Fly Girls

After sitting and really listening to this show, I can't believe what a waste of time it was! It seemed to me that for someone like Dr. Phil who is one that always wants to get to the truth, it was NOT even touched upon. It seemed to me that it was one-sided against these girls. Yes, maybe they came or come across as the we are better than you attitude. However, THAT WAS NOT the only point they were making.  As for Mr. Daniels the union guy they had on representing the flight attendant(s), he kept saying from the reports he read, hmmm there's a questioning factor right there I had. The flight attendant(s) are going to write out their version in a way as to protect their jobs! And, isn't that what a union leader or spokesperson does as well?! Here's a few questions I have in regards to all this:

1. Where and why wasn't the actual flight attendant on the show?

2. Why wasn't the man that apparently had the altercation with the blond gal on the show and why wasn't he detained and questioned as well to find out exactly what had transpired?

3. Why didn't Dr. Phil investigate this by not putting different people on these flights to see what happens? Like someone else said, I'm sure Dr. Phil would not have any problems on a flight. In fact, I am sure that he and any other well known celebrity would get in fact more preferential treatment than any of us.

I myself fly quite a bit every year. I take different airlines. (I don't buy into the mileage programs.) I don't fly business class nor first class. I fly coach every time. I also have encountered very rude flight attendants when I have flown. I was on a flight one time and I was seated in the window seat. The seat next to me was empty and the isle seat there was a lady seated with a young child on her lap (her husband was directly across from us in the other isle seat with the other young child on his lap). They did not purchase a seat for their children. However, I had to spend the entire flight with the child throwing things, kicking and moving about. She a few times put the child into the seat between us. The flight attendant kept coming by and looked over a couple of times, but did NOTHING. I even got up and went and spoke to the flight attendant about the problem and was told there was nothing she could do and I would have to take it up with customer service when I got off the plane!!!

So, all in all, I guess I wrote all this because the show got me frustrated because I believe it was not all the girls' fault. Yes, they played a part in all of it, but they should not of been the only ones "reprimanded" for it.

Also, what was the point of having the one girl on there who dressed too sexy for the flight? She hardly said but 10 words if that. And sorry, but what was the point of showing her in lingerie posing for playboy? Didn't that just prove her character!?

REALLY!  The  shine on this by Souhwest is insaine.  His mocking laughter and this bringing up the Too Pretty thing saying that means everything they are saying is lies.  Southwest's attendant is being covered for being unprofessional and inappropriate!  The trashy dressing girl if anything is using these girls to try to remind people who she is as well as most likely part of her settlement.  The man should not have been allowed to get in a young person's face and the unprofessinal behavior of the attendant.  This is a company using a horrific nightmare to harrass and abuse passengers they just feel like messing with or to cover up unprofessional behavior by the flight attendents!
Thom is only making Southwest look worse!

Little Miss Sunshine ....not PG or PG13

Quote From: ramair

Some PG-13 movies have the same foul language as R-rated. The words are the same, just not used as much. Wan't "Little Miss Sunshine" PG-13. My husband insisted on seeing it. Probably expecting it to a Shirley Temple type movie. But, for a movie about a little girl, it was the most vulgar I've ever seen.

Little Miss Sunshine ... the movie is NOT PG 13.

Little Miss Sunshine is rated R, not meant for any children.

This was a movie about a disfunctional family dynamic.

Rated R !!!

um has neone heard of freedom of speech? since when can they ban "cussing"  or more commonly known as swearing ur a** off from an air line? swearing isnt even the same for everyone, it depends on ur religion and culture. their just words ppl, not weapons of mass distruction.
I am for freedom of speech, but an airline can ban what ever it wants from it's jets.  More power to them. Free enterprise and all that jazz.

I can't believe this!

If being pretty had anything to with it I would never have been able to fly! Granted I'm not talking about now that I'm 44 years old and disabled and stress has taken it's toll, I'm talking about all of the years before. I have been considered quite pretty and yes beautiful, one time I was even pulled aside by the flight attendant because the pilots wanted to meet me. As a matter of fact I have always been treated very well because of my looks and because of my very polite personality. The girls were pulled off that plane because of their behavior plain and simple. I guarantee you that the flight attendants were not concerned or probably didn't even notice what they looked like. They just noticed their behavior. If you don't know how to act you pay the price. Everyone needs to act in a polite and mature manner and have respect towards those in charge. Would all of you want to be on a flight where there is fighting going on? I wouldn't!
