(Original Air Date: 04/08/08) Imagine having your doctor on speed dial to answer your questions 24/7. Here's your chance, because The Doctors (link to: /shows/page/TheDoctors)  are back! Dr. Phil welcomes OB/GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson, family therapist Dr. Tara Fields, pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears, plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon, and E.R. physician Dr. Travis Stork. Join their conversation and hear their valuable insights on the hottest medical topics of the day, including actor Heath Ledger's untimely death and the rise in breast augmentation surgery. Next, meet Jennifer, a wife and mother who's so afraid of her family getting sick and dying from germs, that she won't handle cash or mail, she wears three different pairs of shoes each day -- a pair for in the house, one for out of the house, and one for in the car -- and won't even greet family members from out of town until they've come in and showered! Is Jennifer's house as germ free as she thinks it is? Dr. Phil sends a microbiologist to find out. Then, meet a woman who got married and was ready to start a family only to find out that the man she fell in love with was making her physically ill. And, meet a couple who are at odds over a serious medical dilemma involving their 3-year-old son. Should they amputate his legs? Plus, is there a medical question you're dying to know the answer to but are too embarrassed to ask? Be there when The Doctors answer viewer questions on topics ranging from breastfeeding to penis enlargement, and then talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

melatonin for children

Dear Dr. Sears:

My four year old child has always had a hard time sleeping and now my three year old seems to be following in the same footsteps.  I have asked many professionals about giving them melatonin and they all say that it is safe and that they tell a lot of parents that they can give their children melatonin.  What is your take on this and if so, what age and how much?

Breast implants

I am a 33 year old woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. I am a little upset with the way that implants were talked about  today. I understand that alot of women are getting implants for cosmetic reasons but some of us do not have the choice it is implants or nothing. I just think that this should be at least mentioned. I can not  believe that not one of these doctors would think to mention it. I hate the thought of implants but there are not many other options. I had a deip tissue surgery and one side didnt work so I am going to eventually have to have an implant. It is a very hard decision and I had a overwellming anger listning to all the doctors talking  and not mentioning the sadness involved in a diagnosis of cancer and the choice of mastectomy or implant!!!!!

NOPE.....I was 67

Is there an upper age cut off for cosmetic surgery facial proceedures? I would love to have a "face lift" proceedure of some type but fear I may be too old at age 58.

Txannmom

My PS refused to do my face until I was "needing it" at age 65.....hurts like hell but after three months, you will start to forget the pain.....sort of like childbirth memories.

IMPLANTS ARE A BAD DECISION

Quote From: econdude

...foot-binding, for example, was forced onto Chinese women ages ago. You said it yourself..."women are volunteering"...but not just for men. Many women probably do want to have the surgery because of the way it makes them feel. I personally don't favor breast implants that are entirely unnecessary except for vanity BUT you need to get over it, it's the individual woman's choice, not yours.
I was embarrassed by small breasts but  AFTER  getting implants, I was horribly embarrassed to let anyone touch them or even hug me.........Don't do it......men know and you are giving them and/or their friends fodder for jokes behind your back.  They look fake and they feel fake...........why would you want hockey pucks on your chest?........how awful.

OCD

On the show, someone with severe contamination OCD was called a "germaphopic".  This is not the correct term. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a neurobiological illness.  "Systematic Desensitization" is NOT the treatment for OCD. The treatment for OCD is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (a main subtype being Exposure and Response Prevention) along with medication. Obviously, Dr. Phil does not consult with OCD experts before speaking.  If you want to know more about the treatment for OCD go to www.ocfoundation.org, the national foundation for information on OCD.

painful sex

I have been married over 5 years to a wonderful man. I was a virgin when we got married so I was aware that sex was going to be painful the first few times. Six months later, it was still painful, so I went to my OBGYN. She said to give it a year, as it usually takes time for the body to adjust. 12 months later, it was still painful so I went to see a specialist. Their best guess was that it was a rare yeast infection. I was treated for 3 1/2 years with various types of medications and experimental treatment. It was a few months ago that the specialist said there wasn't much more they could do for me and that it looked like I was healed. Needless to say, I am quite nervous, aprehensive, and afraid to try intercourse again. And, since pain is the only thing I have associated with sex, I have no desire to have intercourse with my husband. I love him dearly and want to love him in every possible way. He has remained faithful to me through all of this and I really want to be able to make love to him. Dr. Phil mentioned there were some resources out there to help. Can anyone help me????

07/23 Ask the Doctors

Quote From: dlongga

I would urge you to find a good wellness chiropractor and also start taking colloidal silver internally, plus use it topically.  All ailments generally start from the inside out.....having interference in your nervous system is a major factor (which a chiropractor can correct)....and the colloital silver will be a plus in your healing. Also consider your diet, eat lots of fruits and veggies, and add some Omega 3 to your regimen, and hydrate with water.  Change your soaps and shampoos to those that are free of sodium laurel sulfate (try JASON's products), build up your immune system by pumping your VIT C intake. Juicing is also beneficial. God bless....

Be VERY careful when taking (or advising others to take) colloidal silver as it has a tendency to turn your skin a PERMANENT blue if taken in too high amounts. This is a condition known as argyria. Colloidal silver can also cause death.

Remember, anything you take, over the counter or prescription, including herbal remedies, can interact with each other in a negative way. Best to consult a doctor and/or a pharmacist before just deciding to take something on a lay person's recommendation.

What one person has a good result with can be detrimental to another; even fatal.

bed wettin @ 11

What could be done besides what we are doing... for a 11 year old still wetting the bed? We have tried cuttin out liquids two hours before bed, setting the alarms for night "potty runs".  She is currently on oxybuttnin in am for over-active bladder and desmopressin at night for over-actve kidneys at night. It took 3 years to get the dr. to refer her to a nephrologist.. Any recommendations welcome.

Don't remove child's legs!

Dear Dr.Phil,

I am writing you in behalf of my grandfather. He is 57 years old and thank god that his mother / my great grandmother was very thoughtful about the surgeries that were suggested by those doctors back then. He was born with congenital dislocation of both of his hips. He wasn't able to walk until he was 9 years old. Then at that age, he had different kind of surgeries that helped him to walk. Thank god that my great grandmother didn't follow the suggestions of doctors to cut his ten dents on his benefit that would've left him paralyzed on the legs. Today he is 57 years old Adan he is till using his own legs. He has had many surgeries since then, but he is walking on his owns. With only the help of his two Kane's. He thinks that they should not remove the legs of this boy. They should be giving him a chance until he is older to make his own decisions.

           Your Truly,

                 Amanda
