(Original Air Date: 04/28/08) Imagine being forced to dwell in a space that is so cluttered with junk, food and trash, you can barely walk. Nancy and her boyfriend, Bob, live this nightmare every day. In their two homes, flies and plastic containers fill the kitchen, moldy food is stuffed in four refrigerators, and boxes and plastic bags litter the house. The two youngest children sleep on the same couch in the living room, because one's bedroom is cluttered, and the other child doesn't even have a bedroom! Nancy, a former nurse, admits to being an extreme hoarder, but how did she and Bob, a former corporate attorney, allow their lives to degenerate to this chaotic clutter? Their home is trashed, and they're in debt $100,000. Could other issues be contributing to the chaos in the house as well? Hear from the three children, 16, 11 and 9, who are trapped in this mess. Are Nancy and Bob finally ready to rescue their family from the rubble before the kids' lives are ruined forever? Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Fix up their house

First of all... how come these children have not been removed from the home?  This is a clear cut case of child neglect.  Where are the children living now?  I believe the house is now condemned?

Also, why would Phil pay to fix up a house when these people are over 100,000 in debt and they stated they are pretty close to losing this home. How can anyone afford two mortgages right now?

Why hasn't CPS been called and these children taken away?

I would like to thank you for airing this show today.  It made me cry because I am a packrat, too, but not nearly to this extreme.  I hope this family gets the help they need and I hope you do a follow up show to see how this family got the helped it needed.  Thanks again.

This makes me sooooooooooo mad Oprah had a similiar show and did the same thing these people can go out spend money on crap and food they throw away are tooooooo lazy to clean up then you send someone in to clean up and GIVE them all new stuff  that is not right in this case yes the kids deserve it but the adults NOOOOOOO they are not deserving at all they need to get off their butts and start cleaning give the help and new cabinets etc to people that NEED it .........this is a catch 22 because I do feel the kids need it. I want all new stuff tooooooo sooooo I guess I need to be a pig for a few years and call a talk show instead of cleaning and painting and making the most of what I have.
Oprah had a show today and on it they did a surprise visit to a home they sent help into and it looked as nice as it did the day the family returned to the home. if you live like a pig for a few years and trash your home like that and call Dr Phil and are lucky enough to get on his show while he sends a cleaning crew in to clean it for you, we will all watch it and be logging in to Dr Phil .com and talking about you. is this what you really want. not me ill keep wear i live as clean as i am able to do for as long as i am able to do it. i would not want the people on this topic board to talk about me the way we all talk about Dr Phil;s guest''s. i would hope you feel the same.

if the police have been to their house 30 times have they not seen enough to warrant a call to CPS? I know the mom and dad have a problem but they are subjecting their children to unsanitary and unsafe living conditions!

the police do not get hazardous duty pay for entering filthy homes, thats probably got alot to do with why nothing has been done. I'm sure Dr Phil will make it up to his staff for having to endure what they did, maybe the doc will send them all to the Bahama's for 2 weeks to breath fresh air drink a few my-Tye's and enjoy a beautiful sun set on the beaches. THEY SURE AS HELL EARNED IT.

Out of control

I work hard daily to keep my house clean.  I can not afford a new kitchen, so maybe I'll stop cleaning and write to the show and get a new kitchen!!!  I know she has issues but we all do!!

This is horrifying

Quote From: derevna33

People who hoard to this extent are not rational.  Reasoning with them will accomplish nothing.  They simply go on hoarding.  It is as if they think the garbage men are their personal enemies.

Our neighbor is like this.  I don't know what the inside of her house looks like, but the outside is pretty pathetic.  She can't put her car in the driveway.  It is on her front lawn because she has a pile of garbage on her driveway    Once a year, she receives an order from the county that the yard is a fire code violation.  Southern Idaho is on the north tip of the Great Basin Desert.  (Less than ten inches of rainfall a year, most of it in the spring)   Weeks can go by in the summertime without so much as a cloud in the sky and daytime highs around 95 degrees.

This causes the county to present her with a court order every summer about her yard.  The fire department volunteers move her car to the street.  They get out the week whackers and then try mowing her yard.  Once they trimmed the poor tree.

     She had a fit.

Whatever the problem is with this woman and I imagine there are many deep seated problems - she is not presently capable of providing these children with what they need in any way.  This is a form of child abuse that simply must be dealt with.  These children need to be placed with family or friends while "Mom" (?)  gets her sanity together.  This woman is full of self, not presently capable of caring for someone else, much less 3 dependent children.  Forget the filthy, vile environment these children are forced to live in...she drives them around in a car while she most likely is intoxicated and she has a "live-in" boyfriend who is a lying violent alcoholic and guilty of who knows what else and this is the "home" she is providing these precious children..,.this woman does not have the ability to exercise judgment.  She is sick.  I am praying someone in that city takes action and protects these children from this abuse, it will be criminal negligence if they do not.

04/28 A Secret Inside: Extreme Hoarding

Why would Dr. Phil give this woman more ammunition to continue her hoarding?  Give her a brand new kitchen for what?  So she can mess that one up too.  What about the kids?  Why he not say that he will have Child protected service to keep a eye on the children.  I guess it better to give people things, then to help the children.  I feel sorry for them.  They do not need to be in that home.  Dr.Phil spend your money on people that need it and not people who will misuse it.

A little something to know

Most people do not realize that compulsive hoarding is a symptom of OCD...  Not saying that she does have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but there are people who are hoarder and no one seems to think of it being a disorder.  OCD can spontaneously occur meaning that someone does not have to have been diagnosed as having OCD as a child.  I just think that these things should be looked at more closely than just saying that a person has a PROBLEM!!!!

Losers - both of them

And, to think Dr. Phil got LOWE's to promise a new kitchen - makes me want to boycott Lowe's!
