(Original Air Date: 04/28/08) Imagine being forced to dwell in a space that is so cluttered with junk, food and trash, you can barely walk. Nancy and her boyfriend, Bob, live this nightmare every day. In their two homes, flies and plastic containers fill the kitchen, moldy food is stuffed in four refrigerators, and boxes and plastic bags litter the house. The two youngest children sleep on the same couch in the living room, because one's bedroom is cluttered, and the other child doesn't even have a bedroom! Nancy, a former nurse, admits to being an extreme hoarder, but how did she and Bob, a former corporate attorney, allow their lives to degenerate to this chaotic clutter? Their home is trashed, and they're in debt $100,000. Could other issues be contributing to the chaos in the house as well? Hear from the three children, 16, 11 and 9, who are trapped in this mess. Are Nancy and Bob finally ready to rescue their family from the rubble before the kids' lives are ruined forever? Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

I work hard daily to keep my house clean.  I can not afford a new kitchen, so maybe I'll stop cleaning and write to the show and get a new kitchen!!!  I know she has issues but we all do!!
just get a grill and while your getting ready to cook drop a few peices of raw onion on the coals before you place the meat on it and drop a few on while your cooking it gives the meat a great taste unless you hate onions, if you hate washing dishes try paper plates those are great too, i personaly like DIXIE BRAND paper plates they have so many with pretty prints on them that will go with any home deacor, and those DIXIE CUPS are great too, that is much more affordable than trying to buy a new kitchen, and hears the best part when your all done all you have to do is just throw tham paper plates and cups in the trash can,no muss no fuss, its great.

Most people do not realize that compulsive hoarding is a symptom of OCD...  Not saying that she does have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but there are people who are hoarder and no one seems to think of it being a disorder.  OCD can spontaneously occur meaning that someone does not have to have been diagnosed as having OCD as a child.  I just think that these things should be looked at more closely than just saying that a person has a PROBLEM!!!!
my mother did not give me a chance to develop that ocd you speak of if we let our house get to that condution we would have developed a case of soreassasidias, needles to say we all in my family know how to get off our asses and clean, maybe if this woman had developed soreassasidias her home would never had gotten that way for those poor children to have to deal with!!!

She said that people should look on the inside and not dewll on the outward things then she lists things that have happened to her in the last 10 years.   We all have problems.

In the last 18 years my husband was in a terrible accident caused by someone else and has lost the ability to work, has migraines almost everyday now, I had to quit work because the stress of fighting with L&I (Workmans Comp) brought to a head a problem I had and was diagnoised with Fibromyalgia that is terrible today.  We lost our insurance and I had to come up with private insurance that costs a fortune,  I lost both my mom and dad and husbands father, found out that I had breast cancer and went through surgery, chemo, radiation & harmon therapy, both siatic nerves are extreemly painful, have found out that I have spinal stenosis (I can't afford the surgery because of the high deductable), and I have to do all the outside work because my husband can't do those things anymore (but he tries which puts him in bed for 5-6 more days (he can't stand seeing me doing the work alone).  I don't do a wonderful job cleaning my house because of the pain it causes but I keep at it till I get it done.  It takes 2 days to clean my bathroom but we all have our problems.  I think she has some mental problems that have to be addressed.  I wonder if it was caused by her being caught stealing the pain meds and going to prison?

This was exactly my reaction to this situation!! Here is a person with a history of drug abuse, driving on the roads drunk, making her children live in filth, and she gets a new kitchen!!!! What's up with that! Rewarding her for her bad behavior! My husband asked me, "I wonder how long it would take to fill our house up, so we can get a new kitchen!" Unbelievable!

DR PHIL looked inside but i dont think he was too happy with what he saw, im sorry to hear all the troubles you are having and my heart goes out to you for all the pain you suffer from, you sound like a hard working woman, and from what you say about it taking you 2 days to clean your bath room all i can think is you must really have a big bathroom, i find that scrubbing the shower to be the worst part of cleaning ours, but i have found something that really works good, have you heard of those scrubbing bubbles? man those things are great, next time you have to tackle the shower try those it will help,as for the tolet well i cant be of any help thar, the only way i know to clean one is with a tolet brush, i wish lowes would sell a self cleaning tolet like those self cleaning ovens they have, lol i cant afford one of them nether, i still have to use that easy off, i wonder whear in the hell they ever got the idea that it was easy tho, i hate cleaning the oven so i grill out alot, no muss no fuss and the food taste great off the grill. in all honesty you should try going to family assisants with your medical problems, maybe they could assist you  by allowing medicade to pay the bill for you, people in ur situation are why i dont mind paying taxes i would love to know my tax dollars are going to help some one who deserves it, god bless you and your husband and i pray he takes your pain away.

Agree!

Quote From: vmcpoland

First of all... how come these children have not been removed from the home?  This is a clear cut case of child neglect.  Where are the children living now?  I believe the house is now condemned?

Also, why would Phil pay to fix up a house when these people are over 100,000 in debt and they stated they are pretty close to losing this home. How can anyone afford two mortgages right now?

Why hasn't CPS been called and these children taken away?

I 100% agree with everything you wrote. How do you know the house was condemned? Was that mentioned?

OMG!!!

Well I was watching this on D. Phil today I just about fell off my chair, at the look of the house & condo!  This is  when the CPS needs to step in and remove those children from that disgusting filthy house.  Well it's not a house it's a disaster zone.  And I am being nice!!!!  I do not understand  why people  are living in such despicable places , and it doesn't click on the light bulb in their brain.  Come on women get off the booze and get help for  yourself and if you don't want to let your children go and stay in a clean house with a nice clean bed. Now really go check yourself in to some kind of clinic. And the show will petty well give you a new house so you can just start to mess up that one.  Are you kidding me??!!.  Dr. Phil this women doesn't need a new inside of her house until she can prove that she won't do this again.  Get real first.

I suffer from OCD and I am sure glad that I clean my house nonstop, and I am glad I don't live in a place like those poor children do.  And they have to sleep on a couch!!!  What the H** is wrong with other people who know this is the environment these children are in an do NOTHING for them.  These children need to be removed from this house  ASAP!!

And the smell must be awful!  Geez you are a sick, lazy women who think it OK for you pets to be in. And your husband needs to put his foot down and stay off the booze too.

You are probably the most informed person on here today. I tried to post earlier and apparently, my message was too 'strong' and it wasn't posted. You DO understand what's going on but sadly, your message will fall on deaf ears.Nobody is interested in the facts-most would rather talk about what they didn't get. I have seldom seen so many nasty hateful posts on a subject they know NOTHING about. This is truly pathetic,.
