(Original Air Date: 04/29/08) Christina, 21, and her younger sister, Carlie, 13, say they had a close relationship with their father, Michael, until two years ago when he decided to transition to a female. Michael was a police officer, soldier and loving parent who lived his life as a male for 40 years. Now, he wants his daughters to call him Mom, because he says Dad is gone, but they refuse. Michael, who prefers to be called Kayla, says she wants to explain to her daughters why she's living as a woman, but they've never given her the chance. The last time Christina saw her father was two years ago when he showed up at her work in lace and blue jeans to break the news that he's transgendered. When she sees Kayla onstage, does she greet her with open arms? Next, Carlie joins her sister and father. She says she wants her old dad back, but will she feel the same after seeing Kayla? Can the father-daughter bond be turned into a mother-daughter one? Be prepared for an emotional journey as two daughters  struggle to understand how someone they say loved so much could hurt them so badly. Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

04/29 Daddy Dramas

Quote From: fromthesquare

Where were you when they had the Bio class about x chromosomes and y chromosomes?  A little testosterone from the MOTHER determines the sex of the child, you say?  Sorry but that is predetermined by the FATHER.  Mom only has X chromosomes.  XY a boy, XX a girl.  It is not a very delicate process.

There will be a test on Friday so study up!!  ;0)
That was not the point of what I was saying. I was just talking about the fact that when testoterone enters the fetus it determines the gender. The father's chromosomes may determine the amount of testosterone, but it certainly comes from the mother's body. That was my only point. It is a delicate process. Half of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. All factors must be just right to create life. Don't be condescending.

That's right. Gender is determined at conception. By whichever chromosome, X or Y, the first sperm to reach the egg carries. Do you know that, before this was known, queens were beheaded for not giving birth to sons? So, the king could take a new queen to give him sons?

Still not the point. Gender is determined at concetion, however the process that causes that gender to come to fruition can be interupted. Just like many other problems that occur during gestation.

Ugly Humans are Just that...

Ugly Humans.

You can dress a pig in Sunday clothing, but a pig is a pig is a pig...
And one does not need the benefit of a PhD in Psychology to be able to reflect on one's behavior, and the consequences of one's actions.

I have known people with gender issues, but I don't think that is the real story here.

I could not help but notice that Michael was extreemly posey in all of his photographs... massively in love with himself.

In his uniform he always had a Tony Curtis-esque pout-mouth, a CHARACATURE of a Female... not the real deal.

I am guessing that his/her real issues are more along the lines of addiction, rather than soul searching what his real nature is.,,
Thus the URGENCY to have his cake and eat it yesterday.

He is also massivly self centered.
That is why he gave his daughter the death of her father for her Birthday.

This guy is a real piece of work.

And as a real woman... and a mother
Coler me offended.

Please do a little research.  Testosterone has nothing to do with the fetus becoming a boy or a girl.  This is science not conjecture.  The mother can only supply an x chromosome.  The father has both.  The combination creates boys or girls.  You may have a valid argument about damaged chromosomes or a mishap at conception but you can't change science to fit your argument.

You seem sane. Think I will talk to you for a while. These other cracks are giving me a headache. When will people ever get it? When will they even try? Why would transgendered people choose such a difficult road? They wouldn't!!  It would make no sense to do so. People choose to close their minds, judge, and make other people's lives hell - when it has NOTHING to do with them. It makes me want to cry or scream... or both.

The problem that most of us have with Michael is that he says one thing and does quite the opposite.  The one thing I try to teach my daughter is that people's actions speak louder than words.  She reacts to those actions.  Introducing yourself at your daughter's work is an unacceptable action and calling you on your 12th birthday is an unacceptable action.  He messed up and didn't bother to apologize for his actions.  This may be the key to starting a relationship with them.

I know that you are heroically  the lone wolf out here on these boards.  I am reading what you have to say.  Remember that Blessed are you when you are cursed for righteousness sake...  Everyone has there own agenda but ultimately it is about the children.

How dare you say what you written here.

Quote From: cyncritter

These children are being selfish. All their lives their father worked hard to provide for them and see to their every need. The very LEAST they can do to return all the love and devotion he gave them as a father figure is to accept him the way he has always accepted them--their quirks, their youthful indescretions--and love him no matter what.

It's not like gender changes aren't mainstream now. Thousands of people have made this change. It's time we all stop being selfish in what WE want, and start realizing that life doesn't revolve around each one of us... it just revolves, and we need to accept change when it happens. Why throw away a loving parent just because we have to look at them differently, and call him by MOM instead of DAD? The heart is still the same, and so is the love for the family.

Time to grow up.
How dare you say what you written here.  GOD made us and given each of us our own gender.  He had made Michael a boy, like his daughter said, "he has boy parts," he wasn't born as a girl."  Now he wants to be a woman?  That's just sickening.  He needs to be a "REAL MAN" and be a "FATHER" to "HIS" children.  He has hurt them so badly, and he doesn't even care.  He needs to go see the doctor and get "MALE HORMONES" and face being a real man, and stop being so selfish.  He doesn't even look good as a pretend woman.  You said he accepted them with their quirks, their youthful indiscretions.  He accepted them, because they are his daughters!!!!!! They're not the ones that went out to change their genders to be his sons!!!!

Hugs, mooshie. I hope her journey goes smoothly!
Thank you so much for your support.  I read your story on another post. You and Suzy sound like a remarkable couple.  I didn't mention in my post that a we have another transgender young lady living with us who was kicked out of her home when she was 17. Her very religious family is convinced that she has demons livining inside of her.  It breaks my heart every day when I see how much she misses them and needs them but she knows that they will never accept her. I can never imagine how someone could not love their own child.
