(Original Air Date: 05/05/08) Dr. Phil follows up on the story of Pierre, his wife, Amanda, and his meddling mom, Yolande. When they first appeared on the show, Amanda said her mother-in-law was controlling and never approved of her. Yolande said she hoped her son would be with a more educated woman, and she even criticized Amanda in French right in front of her! Pierre was torn between his mother's money and life with his wife. When he returned home, did he take Dr. Phil's advice and cut the purse strings? Pierre claims his mother is jealous and judgmental of the women he dates. She disagrees and says she's only recently become involved in his love life. Dr. Phil puts Yolande to the test. Then, Pierre asks Dr. Phil for help revealing a secret to his mom. And, Amanda and Yolande haven't spoken to each other in months. Sparks fly when they face off on Dr. Phil's stage. Will Pierre finally choose the road to independence? Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

I Agree

Quote From: debbobsmith

I was wondering the same thing!  I felt compassion for this Mother.  I don't think her son is treating her right.   OK, she loves her son, is that love and respect returned?  It seemed to me that he was using Dr. Phil to push away his Mom for him.  When you look at the transcripts you really don't see any criticism of the girl on the date, mainly criticism of her son's financial situation.  The son needs to grow up and try being a giver instead of a taker for awhile.
I felt the same way. I felt compassion for the mother. I don't think she was treating her daughter-in-law that badly and really didn't say any so bad about her. I feel that she wasn't really allowed to speak her mind. Her son is using her and stealing from her. He should be on the "Moocher" show!!

European controlling mother

There are three players on this drama, all of them guilty. The solution offered by Dr. Phil is right on the nail. Hope that they follow your advice, and this is the last nail in the coffin. I feel for Pierre, because like me, I am the child of European parents, and they are controlling, manipulative. As a child you don’t know how you are being trained. Also the mother does not know she is castrating the child, out of “love”, she always knows what is best for him, but nobody asked him what he wants.

This program should have been mandatory for children and parents

I would...

I would stay clear of this guy if I were single! I don't believe he is going to change! I absolutely can't believe he divorced his wife over his mother's money. He is loosing all the way around. I mean, he has no wife, no money, no ambitions, no true motherly love (she just buys his love.) I can't believe his ex is still his friend...

Wow....

How rediculous.  I am skeptical that Pierre had anything to put in the Dixie Cup in the first place.  After watching both shows I suspect he suffers from  Dixie Cup envy.  Keep running Amanda.

Problems of Alcoholics

Why are viewers not aware of the problems of alcoholics? Do they consider Amanda superior and more perfect than 3 famous young alcoholic women who are often in the news.

Yolande

05/05 Divorce that Daughter-in-Law!

Personally, I feel the Mother was put in an unfair circumstance...It's like you wanted to crucify her.  I would be upset also if I found out that my son and his flaky wife were having a good old time with my money.  I would first tell the Mother to stop contributing to all her sons money demands, cut off his credit cards and just see what happens.  My gosh the son is the biggest flake of them all.  What a looser!

I could"t agree with you more.  I thought dr.phil was very unfair to the mother..She stated more than once that her son just took her money and took his wife or girlfriend on vacation (more than once) with out her knowledge.  That is very wrong. I also thought the daughter-in-law was very disrepectful.  If i were the mother i would just wash my hands of my son until he had some respect for me.  He seems like a user all the way around.

Give him a wake-up call?

Quote From: DoggyMom

If I were a betting person, I wouldn't put money on Pierre becoming independent. I hope there is a follow up show in a year or two to see if he ever breaks the tie that binds.
I just got so angry watching that show.  Why didn't Dr. Phil tell that stupid, sorry, lazy guy to "Grow a pair"?  If he loved his wife at all, he never would have disrespected her or allowed his mother to, either.

Good for you.

Where you "HIGH" or something when you wrote on this post....????????

You should not venture into something you know very little about!!!! What do you know about the AVERAGE FRENCH CANADIAN, do you know the difference between the average French Canadian and a French Canadian from Quebec???? Have you ever been to Quebec and do you even know where Quebec is on a map??????

I am a QUEBECER and very proud of it. There is no stereotype. French Quebecers... I must remind you for the majority of us can SPEAK ENGLISH AS WELL AS WRITE IT... I can not say the same thing for most of the AVERAGE ENGLISH CANADIAN!!!!!

This guy's mother is Swiss and in Switzerland there are 3 languages that are spoken and French is one of them.

Good for you for putting  this person in their place.I'm from a french decent family. And also proud of it.

I don't think anything that people stereotype others with is any better than anyone else.We have so many individuals that are from different nationalities and races in this world that are so far  from God.We all need to look at ourselves instead of judging others ,because of their race or nationality .

I am with the MIL all the way on this situation. Not because of her nationality, but because that young girl is extremely self centered and selfish. She 's extremely rude and disrespecting toward everybody ,especially her MIL.She needs to learn respect toward others .I wish Dr.Phil would see this.Sometimes I wonder where he's coming from with his guest on the show.
