Some people get spooked by horror films and others by Ouija boards, but are there really ghosts among us? James Van Praagh, a world-renowned medium and co-executive producer of the CBS drama Ghost Whisperer, believes the spirit world is closer than we think. James goes ghost-busting on the Paramount Studios lot with The Insider correspondent, Victoria Recaño. Their discoveries might surprise you. Then, Jennifer Love Hewitt, actress and star of Ghost Whisperer, discusses the unexplained occurrences she encountered on the set. Jennifer plays a medium on the show, but is she a believer in real life? Plus, Diane claims to be haunted by the spirit of a 10-year-old boy. She calls the presence “Jerry” and says he even zaps her hands, arms and legs when he’s angry! Dr. Phil arranges a meeting between James and Diane to see if the medium can communicate with the wayward wraith. You won't believe what James uncovers! Then, Mercedes says she's been addicted to psychics for 12 years and has spent nearly $4,000 a year seeking their advice. She even consulted with six soothsayers to see if she should appear on the Dr. Phil show! Mercedes’ son, Glenn, says he doesn’t need a crystal ball to see that the psychics are taking his mother straight to the cleaners. What does the future hold for Mercedes if she continues down this path? And, James performs readings for a few audience members. Don't miss his startling revelations that bring several people to tears. Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

My bad I think I did that wrong

Quote From: agnt00

You know I don't think that ones who are saved have the right to advise those who aren't or otherwise.  Do you study this kind of thing?  Are you a professional? Or is that just your opinion?  Even though you say you mean no offense, when you tell someone that what they "feel", or beleive is wrong, one tends to take offense.  Think about that before you impose your opinionor judgement.   Espcially when you refer to sensitive subjects like religion or politics, those subjects are taboo for some reason in this country, even though we do have the right to freedom of speech.  Only god can judge me.  & People like you wonder why there are those who have no desire to be "saved".
I didn't mean to "reply " to Penny's quote my comment was directed to Susan.

Living the paranormal

Not only does my medium husband  & I communicate with my teenage son who crossed in 10/07, he makes his presence known to us on a daily basis. Its his way of making us feel like things are more normal and he's never that far away. He turns on the fairy light in his bathroom almost everyday, he's turned on his tv when one his fav show was on, he's turned on the pool light, the dining room light, phone ring ect. Plus he gives us signs all of the time every where we go. He is not a ghost but an evolved spirit.  Something  I don't  expect  many here would understand. We do and that'sall that matters.

My son is very much alive, just not on this dimension. No need to worry about our souls, we've got it covered. Just be concerned with your own. Sandy is just fine for talking to her son and will be with her son again. Unless you've lost a child, you will NEVER understand this process! Thank goodness we were already open to the process so we didn't have to wait to hear from our son. Our son is still very much a part of our lives and will always be! The 3 of us work together now! There really is no death! Just change!

I would like to recommend a book, " The Beautiful Side Of Evil"  by Johanna Michelson. Not sure I spelled her name correctly. I checked and found out the book can be ordered through Amazon.com

Psychic Dramas

For the lady you had on your show that is spending all her money on Psychics, let her know please that my mother use to do this for a living right out of her bedroom in her apt. The company came in and put a phone line in her home, ( 800 number) and my mother with no training at all, was doing psychic readings over the phone to people paying big bucks per minute. This is a big scam, and the lady is getting totally taken. My mother was good at it ( it was her job). This lady needs to keep her 500.00 bucks in her wallet. This sort of reading over the phone is nothing but phony.  The object is to get the caller to stay on the phone with the Psychic for as long as possible. The longer you can keep them on, the more money my mother would make. Anything over 15 minutes was a big bonus for my mother in her pay check. So tell that poor lady to save her $$. She's better off giving 500 a month to a church, or the hungry.. futhermore she stated that she calls the Psyhics to see if she will find a job soon. Perhaps this  lady would not need a job if she wasn't putting it in someone else's pocket. They are laughing at her when she hangs up, just the way my Mother use to when she did this for a living.

I agree, too!

Quote From: enrice

I don't mind at all being called names for believing the truth.  I agree wholeheartedly with your statements.  I believe what the Bible says about demons and spirits.  God was very clear on how He feels about asking the wrong spirit for advice/wisdom.  James 1:5 says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."  Spread the Word!  God has all the answers and is the Absolute Truth!  Satan is a liar and a deceiver.  Trust Christ.
I was hoping these kind of shows would not appear on 'Dr. Phil' because he has chosen to be a follower of Jesus Christ. It's not that mediums and so-called 'ghost whisperers' aren't real, it's exactly the opposite! They are VERY real and the truth is that they are controlled by Satan and not by those who have gone 'beyond'! I, too, believe what the Bible says about demons and spirits. They are VERY REAL and dangerous! Why do we always seem to gravitate towards the 'evil' part of spiritual life? Let's 'ask of God' for our wisdom according to life and living! I Samuel chapter 28 in the Bible speaks of King Saul's encounter with the Witch of Endor and goes on to show that when she 'consulted a spirit' that Saul requested of her (who was Samuel the prophet who had died), she didn't expect to see Samuel and cried out in horror that she actually saw the real person!! Obviously she was used to seeing spirits who were impersonating people! Therefore, spirits, evil, demons, are REAL and very dangerous! THIS is why God asks us to leave that way alone.
Respectfully,
Godmama

look up "Cold Reading" on Google

Do a search on Google for the terms "Cold Reading".

That is what James Van Praagh did on the Dr. Phil show. Did you see him trolling, and trying to fit in info about music to save himself?

Why didn't Dr. Phil mention "Cold Reading"?

Yeah we know, CBS wants some advertising for their new Psychic TV show for the female Dr. Phil demographic.

But it really is very ugly and beyond unethical to allow a Cold Reader to make people cry and make up stuff about their recently passed-away friends and relatives. That's about as low as it gets.

Even worse, its clear Dr. Phil knows what's up with JamesVan Praagh. That actually makes it worse.

05/15 Psychic Dramas

Quote From: enrice

It's hard to say whether or not Dr. Phil and/or Robin are true followers of Christ... I don't know them well enough to know that with any surety.  However, I agree with you that he has in the past held a standard on his show as to the content of them, and bringing on a medium doesn't really fit in.  It was nice to see his initial skepticism about it, and comical to hear him answer back to Mr. Praag with the comments about his hands being large and his father being proud of him.  But in the end, he offered Mr. Praag's services to someone else, even though he was, originally, not buying what the guy was doing.... as if to say, "Well, I don't believe it, but I'll let him mislead you and make it sound like a valid help to your problem in the process."  I guess I don't expect Dr. Phil to start spouting Scripture on stage... after all, this isn't a Christian-based show, and he would probably lose a lot of watchers if he did.  But, with or without God's Word being mentioned, he doesn't have to tote someone else's services when he himself doesn't believe it's really going to do any good!  He is, after all, the sole representative of the Dr. Phil show, right?  And I don't think it was absolutely necessary to bring a medium on the show anyway... he's not that hard up for supporters!  Stick with the self-help type shows... the stuff that you really believe will work!  Just a suggestion.

Very well said!

I may just be a naive housewife, but I do tend to think that Dr. Phil and Robin are true Christians, just going by the way that they lead their lives ~ the things that they say and do. My sister-in-law told me about an interview with one of them where Dr. Phil asked Robin on her first date and she asked two questions, "Do you drink alcohol and is Jesus Christ your Savior?" And, he answered no to the first and yes to the second.

Of course, that example alone doesn't prove anything, but the two of them really do seem to be the real deal.

But, he's definitely not hard up for supporters, so he didn't need to do this to get ratings or anything.  And, even if he did, which I don't think he did, it still seems like a compromise.  It's one thing to give someone a free makeover and let them get 2-inch long chartreuse fingernails even if you think it won't help them get dates, but a phony psychic reading?  Sounds like he might need to go back and re-read the book of Deuteronomy.

Suzan, I'm Just Wondering...

Quote From: suzangm

I share your same opinion. Psychic's do damage to those that use them. Causing families of Missing Persons to waste precious time chasing there "visions". I am a p.i. and have watched up close what a psychic does to families that are grief stricken, only to get hurt on even a deeper spiritual level than before. It's horrible what they do, and not from God. Look at my profile and follow the link to my blog where you can read the thoughts and experiences of those who have turned to psychics. I would like to see a show on these families that have been harmed, so others will not be hurt be traumatized, nor waste their precious resources. I appeared on the Van Praugh show some years ago as the families lead investigator, with the Shawn Hornbeck family only to hear the most ridiculous claims, of which "NONE" were true.  Shawn Hornbeck? Van Praugh claimed that he was being held in a train (on the show), pointing to me on a map. The family searched nearby area's after the show that matched his "vision" Wasting precious time, where other places needed to be searched. He claimed at a later date to have "been contacted by Shawn's spirit on the other side" when in fact, Shawn was very much alive, and has since been recovered. Fortunately after the taping, Shawn's parents and I went behind the studio... they asked me, do you believe his claims? I said...No. God would not use a person such as this to speak through. How about a show on the damage psychics do...so we can prevent people from being further traumatized?

Respectfully, Suzan

Suzan, you were obviously disappointed with Mr. VanPraagh's erroneous advice; however, any psychic worth his salt explains beforehand that, sometimes, they get the message wrong or that it was actually intended for someone else.  I am every bit a Christian but I also cannot argue with "what is is what is."  I've witnessed too many people who have given accounts of personal experiences and benefitted from the paranormal via a psychic.  Please don't write them all off, especially someone with the reputation of Mr. VanPraagh.  What I was wondering, though, is: Did you ever contact Mr. VanPraagh after this experience and ask him to give an accounting for his erroneous advice that he gave the family (and you) that day?  I'd love to know what he had to say about it.

Most sincerely,

Judy Johnson

intuitive grandson

My daughter and family moved in to a house last August.  Shorty thereafter, my 4 yr old grandson Willy started talking about monsters in his closet.  At first his parents thought it was just a 4 thing, but it was the same time every night and his story never changed.  He said it was 3 shadow men and they were yelling at him.  He would run to their bed, as this was happening my daughter would sometimes just crawl in bed with him.  She started to feel something tickling her arms and playing with her hair.  There were cold spots in the house, especially in my grandson's room.  They could feel their bed shake, and the sensation that someone was sitting on the bed alongside them.
I know someone who does paranormal things and when we contacted her, she and her group found 3 cowboys in Willy's  room, who were apparently lost and ended up killing each other to avoid being scalped by indians.  They later did a reading at the house and found a family of three who froze to death in a storm, and were in my grandson's room, which is why his room was cold.  They also found a man who at one time owned the property that my daughter's house sits on and viewed them as trespassers.  They were able to convince all of them to "go to the light"..We never told Willy  their names, but when he went back after the reading he asked about all of them by name!   He also told us a little about them.
A few weeks later he described a girl with yellow hair, and a boy with purple eyes.  My daughter could hear footsteps in the hallway and some of the boys things would disapear.  She came up stairs one night after hearing a thump, thinking one of the boys fell out of bed, she heard a little voice say, "lets get out of here."  When she checked ont he boys they were both asleep.  Now, her 2 yr old, Joe was starting to wake up screaming and running in to their bed, he would keep popping up and looking at the door, as if to expect someone to come in. Willy told her that the boy with the purple eyes was scaring his brother.   She again called my friend and and her group crossed 3 children, all family members who were killed in a storm.  She said there was a female famiy member waiting for them and they were glad to go.    My daugher feels that her grandmother is in the house, as she can smell her perfume on occasion.  My son in law thinks that his dead father and brother are there also.  The group found 2 guardian angels there when they did the first reading.  When we ask Willy if there are any more people in the house he says no.
He refers to the guardian angels as the men in blue.  He wrote on the siding with a red crayon, and when his dad came home he told him he didn't need to yell at him that the man in blue already did!  I always believed that there were spirits around us but this whole thing really opened my eyes.

You Don't Win 5

Quote From: smgmarino

On the show today, Dr. Phil said to go to his website to register to win 5 free readngs with James Van Praagh.  Not only do I see where to register (probably because Dr. Phil wasn't in agreement with the way James wants to do it!) but when you go to vanpraagh.com, you can indeed sign up but...

You have to buy the book first!!!  It's not that I don't want the book but I already went to the local bookstore to get it!  I don't need it again?!!  So I can't sign up for the 5 free reading????

Sucks!!!

Dr. Phil misstated what one could win and how one could win it.  As you saw, the book has to be purchased first, which is OK since I'd already ordered it, but it has to be ordered either through Amazon.com or one other source - I don't remember which - but the main thing I wanted to say is that you don't win 5 sessions.  You win 1 of 5.  In other words, 5 people will each win 1, 30-minute PHONE SESSION with Mr. VanPraagh.  I was rather disappointed when I saw that it won't be a sit-down, in-person session but, hey, if Mr. V can do over the phone what he can do in person, and if I should win 1 of the 5, then I'll be satisfied.  After all, it's free and there are other things a person gets too.  Like you said, go to vanpraagh.com and it's all explained.
