05/23 Dr. Phil's Beach Body Bootcamp

Quote From: tyler1

Hi  Pam, wow your body is rediculous (in a good way).  Holy cow, all your curves fell into all the right places, right on!  I'm not even in agreement  that you need to lose any weight, plenty of girls would kill for your figure.  That dress was awesome too.  I think you shuld model, your face is so beautiful.

Sorry to say though you might have replied to the the wrong poster.  I'm not the gal that think she's a nobody.   I was just trying to help someone else realize *they* are not a nobody.

Your advice is spot on and I think others can learn from you.  You don't have to have money, nutritionists, cooks, or trainers.  Buy a book, buy some weights, get walking, count calories, just get moving.  If you can't get moving because of health reasons take in fewer calories.  Over time you will *still* lose weight.    Don't live your *old* life, live a new one.  And never look back.  If you do you'll only be living your old life again.

Ooops, sorry... I'm brand new to the site and I actually DID write that accidentally in reply to your quote. I meant it to be directed to the woman who thought she was a 'nobody'.  Anyway... thanks for your wonderful words and support! I can see you have a very encouraging spirit and I really like the replies of positivity you give the others that are struggling. Thanks!

How about a decrepit older lady's bootcamp?

I watched the Beach Body Bootcamp episode with amusement mixed with longing.  I used to weight 210 pounds and am now down to 153.  But I still have that humongous chunk of blubber resting on my midsection!  Doesn't seem to matter how much I walk, use my Healthrider, go to the gym, eat responsibly, read and use The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution, I CANNOT get rid of those last 28 pounds and that flexible blob of jello around my waistline.  Maybe you guys can help and then profile some over-50 ladies like me who have arthritis and high blood pressure and have had multiple abdominal surgeries and just can't get rid of that unhealthy blub that causes them to sink in swimming pools or else float belly up while their heads and feet drop to the bottom?  Is it even possible for older dudes (or dudettes to be totally politically correct) with health issues to get into "beach body" shape - not just for the summer but to keep ourselves out of those wheelchairs and nursing homes in later life?  Maybe one of your fitness shows could target some of the older among your viewers.  Thanks for thinking about it and continuing to cover fitness and health on your shows.

YEA!!!! FOR PAM!!!!

Quote From: spstarfish

Hi, it's Pam again! I'm not sure which one of the three wrote that last letter, but "hi" again! It was fantastic to get to meet all the people on the show. You three are the most amazing women... the epitomy of what one can do if they are ready to make a change. It's so hard to lose weight because it's a habit and it's what we know how to do. I tell you, I panic if I think I'm going to miss one meal. .. food is just so damn important to me... it's my best friend. It's always around when I'm feeling crappy or mad or happy, whenever. What I've been trying to do lately, and because I have a fantastic relationship with Jesus, is ask Him to fill that void in my life, instead of the food. I know a lot of people won't agree w/ this, and that's ok. We're all entitled to our beliefs. As I mentioned before, I've been able to drop 90 lbs in the past 4 years on my own... w/o Dr. Phil or anyone else's help. I'm so blessed my health is intact still, because it woudn't have been for much longer. I was 250 and I gave the pix to Phil's staff to prove it, but they didn't show them. I didn't go on any special diet, I just did what I could and it took a long time, but all I know is I don't have to take HBP meds anymore.
Hey Pam it is Kay, again.  I am so proud of you for doing it on your own.  I struggled to do it on my own but never could.  I received Dr. Phil's book as a Christmas gift, of all things.  I kept it almost 2 years before reading it.  I was and am a happy person with a happy life and couldn't believe, as a loved one told me, that I might be an emotional eater.  I read the book, seriously, that time and was completely shocked by what I discovered about myself and what was causing me to emotionally eat.  From that point on, I began to lose weight.  I agree with you that others may not agree but I will say it with pride and conviction.  I give Dr. Phil the credit because he wrote a wonderful "life style manual" for me to follow, but I give God the glory because every time I threw the book to the side he would redirect my path back to this book.  Like you, in my moments of feeling weak, I pray instead of eat.  I resolve two issues at one time.  I spend time with God and I take control of my eating.  I had tried soooooo many things, most of which were not healthy and not long term.  Once I discovered why I was eating, the major part of the battle was won.  You look so young and I'm so proud of you for taking charge.  Don't wait until you are in your 40's like I did, get healthy now and stay healthy.  Yea, too, for getting off of the HBP meds.  I would love to keep in touch with you.  It was so hectic that day of taping.  I got some email addresses but didn't get yours.  My family and friends have been so impressed with your honesty and your accomplishments.  I have made a point to tell them how much you have lost.  I wish it had been made public because you are also an inspiration as is your honesty.  Keep up the good work and I will be praying for you!

That's awesome you lost all that weight!  Losing the last few pounds CAN be maddening.    My mom is 70 and has a slipped disk.  She can't work out right now and hasn't for sometime.  She'll probably be needing surgery soon.  However she did Weight Watchers, without exercise, not even walking and still lost 30lbs.  I don't know what you consider a *beach body* but you can lose the last 28lbs if you're consistant with your responsible eating and exercise regiman.  If the weight is still not budging you need to take in fewer calories than you are right now and eventually it WILL come off.   Just the way it works.  If your weight is stuck, you have to either restrict more, move more or both.    If you've had multiple abdominal surgeries, you'll not be able to get your stomach tight again the muscles there may be permanantly damaged.  However you can stil get it *gone* and flat in that area  through proper eating.   Best of luck to you and don't give up.  It's *never* too late to feel and look good.

The Real Rebecca

Just to get the story straight. My wife Rebecca has been there for my mother from the day she met her. Rebecca has put herself last in every way trying to make my mother happy. It was Rebecca who moved my mother in 9 years ago to help her with her finances. It was Rebecca who included my mother in every single thing we did, who thought about buying out her retirement to make her life easier, who has tried to help her in every way. I can't count the ways my wife has been there for my mother.  Rebecca thought that if she got her help with her weight, that she would be healthier, happier, live longer and wouldn't be so depressed all of the time. Her mood was affecting our entire family. We have a very peaceful home and our children needed to be in a more positive environment, so Rebecca was trying the only thing she knew to try and save our family unit.  I commend my wife for trying so hard all of these years.  Rebecca realized after the Dr. Phil show, that she can not help my mother and she can not keep putting herself last any more. I am happy that Rebecca has realized this and I've suggested that she do more for herself.  I am so sorry that the show decided not to show who my wife really is, because you would have been amazed. I admire my wife and think that she is the most incredible person I have ever met.

Wish I knew the right people to be able to take advantage of these shows and offers, I'm so tired of fighting this fat disease that I'm ready to have the lap band surgery. I've tried every diet known to man including starvation. I'm still fat, with all kinds of ailments that go along with being obese. How can someone who is no one get help?

First of all, you are not a no one.  That broke my heart when I read it but I completely understand.  I was overweight for many, many years and I finally realized that no one was going to help me, only I could help me.  I felt invisible because as a heavy person, people judge you, or at least that is how it feels.  I had tried every diet, healthy and not healthy, I didn't care.  I tried diet pills, hypnosis, dealameal, the zone, cabbage diet, LA weight loss, OMG the list goes on and on.  What finally worked and continues to work was Dr. Phil's book.  I realized, going through the keys and taking the tests, that my weight was not about eating but about emotional baggage.  I thought that I was happy and and had the world by the horns and I did.  I had suffered multiple miscarriages and scary pregnancies and gained weight actually more weight with each miscarriage than I did either live birth.  I thought that I dealt with it each time because I knew it was God's will.  What I discovered was that I hadn't.  I never, ever would have connected those events in my life with keeping the unwanted pounds.  I was a little heavy before pregnancies but I was morbidly obese after.  It has always been hard for me to lose and maintain a healthy weight.  I guess to make a short story long, with this book, I changed our lifestyle, not just mine, but my husband's lifestyle and my children's lifestyle, as well.  We are in this as a family, so I'm not on some diet watching them eat the good stuff while I eat lettuce and cottage cheese.  We all eat the "good stuff" and the stuff that is good for us.  I had all kinds of heath issues as well, but I took it a day at a time and over time I have gone from walking to the mailbox a couple of times a day to up to 5 miles a day.  I just participated in my first cancer walk and walked 10 miles without stopping, that was a victory.  I will say, as a christian, that I prayed multiple times daily for God to direct my paths and give me strength to finally stick to something and I have done that.  I read Dr. Phil's book 2 times before I was convinced that I could do it.  I have lost over 120 pounds and have successfully kept it off for almost a year now.  I do not even have the desire to eat the kind of stuff I used to eat because my tastes have changed.  Please know that YOU and only YOU can help yourself.  There are no offers or shows or anything else that will help you, you have to want to do it and commit to it.  You will be in my prayers and I know that you are a somebody and you can do it.

Hi Kay!.... I would LOVE  to keep in touch. How do we exchange e-mail addresses w/o listing them on this site? Let me know if you have any ideas. I think it would be terrific to be able to support one another, esp. since we have several common bonds! Thanks for your encouragement about my weight and being healthy. I'm struggling right now. I just found out I have a tear in my L-5 and the beginnings of a herniated disk. I haven't been able to run , which is how I lost a lot of the weight in the first place... so I've gained about 15 lbs from my ideal weight. I'm having a hard time juggling only being able to ride a bike for exercise right now, and feeling bad because I can't exercise like I need to, so I've been eating more and more and that's how I've gained the weight. I think  I need to pick up the 7 keys to Weightloss again and go back to why I eat and go from there. When I'm feeling powerless or bored, I eat.

Anyway, you look so fantastic, it's so hard to believe that you were that person in the 'before' pic! I would NEVER have believed it! That's a huge, huge accomplishment, and I'm so proud of you. All of you! You look amazing and I'm so glad we were able to get to meet you all. Keep up the good work!   Pam

05/23 Dr. Phil's Beach Body Bootcamp

Quote From: mrslees06

so i am 23 200+ pounds and desperate, i have been with my husband for 5 years but been married for two this september, i have a back disorder where my disc are desinagrating and sooner or later if i dont loose my weight it will just get worse, i have already lost 35 pounds by doing nothing i think its from the vicodin i have been taking for my back pain so i can take care of my two year old son. they sent me to physical therapy and that didnt work they tell me to work out and that just causes the pain to be worse so i give up i dont know what else to do. the only time i can work out is in the morning but i am one of those people who needs someone to work out with dont ask me why?.. my husband says hes going to workout with me and go on a diet with me but one he says that he cant wake up that early and two.... i dont know i think i use him as a excuse not to do it, its just in my neighborhood you cant walk around the block by yourself cause you will get mugged, or a dog will come and attack you its crazy and with only one income i cant afford to go to a gym..so please help what do i do?

jamie

Hi Jamie,

I know how you feel... it's very hard to get motivated to lose the weight. And that is absolutley fantastic that you've lost 35 lbs. You don't have to be on the Vicodin forever, just watch the kind of exercise you do... Nothing pounding or jarring. Try riding your bike or walking... and if you don't feel safe in your neighborhood, drive or bike to a more safe place. I don't live in the best of neighborhoods either and that's what I have to do. I drive to a park up the way a bit or drive to the beach where i'm safe and do my thing there. There are so many possibilities! Even in your own home, you can do strengthening exercises w/ this rubber tubing they sell at Wal-Mart or K-Mart in the exercise sections. They also sell it in a band form... it's cheap and very effective. You can also look up exercises to do w/ it on the internet. It's called thera-band and thera-tubing. I just found out that I have a tear in my L-5 and the beginnings of a herniated disk as well, and I've had to modify my exercise. I love to run and haven't been able to do that in several weeks and have put on weight. I'm ready to start losing the 15 lbs I've put on, it just takes commitment and constant re-inforcement of my goal. I've lost 90 lbs in the last 4 years, and I'm not willing to let it creep back up on me, because it's so very easy to do. I lost the weight just by doing those things I described above, and I started from 250 lbs. That was my highest weight. I've gotten down to 160, where I was very very happy but now am back at 175... too MUCH. Hang in there, my prayers are w/ you for your back problem and I KNOW you can do it!

Pam
