I wanted to talk about the court system and jail in Dallas Texas. I'd like to spotlight  court appointed attorneys and their ineffective counseling. Recently, my son was convicted of a crime and sentenced to 23 years. His attorney did not file a motion that could have reduced his sentencing among other things. The attorney led me to believe (he felt confident) that my son would get probation and sent to an inpatient drug treatment program. I learn that this court appointed attorney has 93 cases!!!! At the hearing he was unprepared. How can any lawyer defend those many cases. Most do not understand the court system and I am for one, not that knowledgeable, but it is suppose to be "equal justice for all men," but there is no such thing. Criminals that have no money, do not have a chance. They are like cattle pushed through the system and have no one on their side. If you don't know the law, you are in deep trouble!!

Besides the fact, that your lawyer doesn't care and your now in jail/prison with monsters and murderers, you have no way of changing your behavior. Prison staff  provokes you, starves you, and mistreats you. Unsanitary conditions etc. How can anyone change? Most leave prison angry. Why are we building more prisons and adding on to jails when they refuse to get to the real issues dealt with. Taxpayers would rather spend their money on treatment for those who are salvageable, rather than releasing someone that has no treatment at all.

Just visiting my son, the staff at Lew Starrett is a joke. So unprofessional and it's a circus.
