The Doctors are in the house! Dr. Phil is joined by his renowned panel of  medical professionals, including Lisa Masterson, an OB/GYN; pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears; family therapist Dr. Tara Fields; plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon; and E.R. doctor Travis Stork in answering your most pressing health questions. First, meet a mother of a 3-year-old and a 6-month-old set of twins who says she forgets everything from paying the bills, to her child’s name, to the fact she has children --and she’s only 21 years old! Could she be literally losing her mind? Then, meet a courageous 6-year-old Iraqi girl who miraculously survived a car bombing, leaving her with second-degree burns all over her head and face. Find out how her story changed the lives of one American family forever. Plus, 21-year-old Kristin has been dealing with a physical disorder that she says has stolen her self-esteem. When her insurance company turned down her plea for treatment, she turned to Dr. Phil as a last resort. Can help from one of The Doctors restore balance to Kristin’s life and give her the confidence she has lacked for so long? Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Dr Sears

I just wanted to chime in and say that I am happy to see that Dr. JIM Sears will be one of the featured doctors on Dr. Phil's show, AND on the new show "The Doctors". Dr. Sears' father, Dr. WILLIAM Sears was my children's pediatrician when he had a practice in Pasadena California, wayyyy back in the 1980's.

He was an excellent doctor and an advocate for home birth (which was regarded by the AMA as "child abuse"). He along with Kitty Franz, a lactation consultant, not only provided medical care to my children, but were excellent advocates walking me through a serious illness, and an extended hospital stay before and after my surgery.

Dr. Andrew Ordin has a practice near my home, and I am looking forward to seeing just what he can do.

I'll live vicariously through his patients.

I had MRSA almost two years ago after a surgery at a local hospital, and that, coupled with the lack of money would totally rule out any kind of plastic surgery, so I'll just look in and watch.

09/02 Ask The Doctors

Quote From: kachikid

My heart goes out to Kristin.  I can totally relate to her.  I have had the same problem my entire life!  I never knew of anyone who had the same problem!!  I have one size c cup breast and one size a cup breast.  I know exactly how she has felt.  I always felt different, odd and ashamed.  I never "told" anyone either.  It really affected my entire life. Dating was tricky. ( My relationships would get so far and then I would put up the physical and emotional barriers to not let anyone get too close and thus my relationships would end.)

I did meet and marry a wonderful man who loves me completely and we have had three healthy boys and I've nursed all three. However even still I would chose to have breast surgery to even my breasts out .  I am so very happy for Kristin!  She is a beautiful young lady and she should be able to feel for herself what the rest of the world can see.  Thank you Dr. Phil I am so thankful to you for acknowledging this issue!  I never knew of any other person who had this problem and some how hearing Kristin's story makes me fell less ashamed/embarassed Thank you Dr. Ordon for helping this young lady .  Kristin thankyou for sharing your story! God Bless all of you!!

I totally feel for this girl. I too suffer from having one breast being larger than another, and I absolutely hate it. My right breast is a C cup and the left is an A. I am unable to wear low cut tops, certain dresses, different types of tank tops, or bathing suits. And it's even though let alone playing any sport.  It is such an embaressing problem. Oh and did I forget to mention that I'm 14? The majority of my social circle are males, and it's so hard to act like a normal teenager around them. I change my shirt at least three times before I go to school in the morning, only because of the fact that some shirts shape my breats differently, which effects this problem even more. My mom has told me that when I turn 16, I can get surgery, but waiting two more years will be just as aweful as it now.

Knowing that I'm not the only one with this problem makes me feel better, but the fact that it is considerd a deformality does hurt a little. No one likes to know they are "deformed".

Hmm, well good luck to everyone. :)

Shocked but hopeful!

I was shocked when I saw this episode.  My 14 year old daughter has the same issue as Kristin.  One of her breasts is a DD cup, while the other side is an A cup.  We have been to doctor after doctor looking for answers and solutions.  I had know idea this was actually quite common (from reading the messages here).  My biggest question is, WHY?  Is there a hormonal imbalance?  What causes this?  With my daughters permission, we have applied to be on "The Doctors" with this story, and they have expressed interest.  So when I saw this episode I thought our chances for getting some answers for my daughter were shot.  I just don't know, we will have to wait and see.  It drives me crazy that the insurance companies consider this "cosmetic" surgery.  There is nothing cosmetic about wanting to repair a childs self esteem and mental health.  Our insurance insists there must be a "medical necessity" for them to cover any kind of procedure.  I guess mental necessity does not count in their book!  I have asked my doctor about the imbalance on her spine, etc.  I have gotten absolutely no where.  Thank you all, especially Kristin, for sharing your stories and bringing this issue to light.  It certainly does help knowing we are not all alone!  If anyone has any suggestions on how to get through to the insurance company, I would sure like to hear them.

memory

I have twins (12 now)and I can definitely relate to the memory issues.  The first few years are what I refer to as the maintence years..diapers, feeding who gets what meds etc...it does get better..lots better..I would always say to myself what is the worse that could happen..they cry?(and they did)..I also found out my dad had cancer about a week after they were born, he passed away six months later..everything must be kept iin perspective..I also had a thyroid issue that didnt help...and just when I thought we were on track9twins were around five and a new born)I fell...and have a brain injury..i couldnt recognizemy own sister and children..it has been five years, lots of meds and a divorce later("why cant you just get over it"}but things are better, I still have issues with recognition(although much better), fatigue and even embarassement(you look fine!)and life isnt exactly what I thought it would be..but you have to keep moving..if only for your kids...

I guess what I am saying is that twins, lack of sleep etc with twins is "normal"..and that when people say I always wanted twins..they really have no clue...but this is only temperary ...and the light is right around the corner..i too had problems with bills etc...but once agin it needs to be put into perspective ..was anyone hurt because of it...did anyone die...then you survived another day...please sheck into your thyroid and possible brain injury(i didnt think there was a problem-other than the headache-until I couldnt recognize my kids and sister--)  Stay Strong..remember it could always be worse and that things in life..including life ..is temporary...:)

Concern for mother

I just watched a recorded edition of Ask the Doctors which included the segment about the little girl from Iraq.  While I am thrilled that there are enough caring and generous people who are able to provide what she needs to live a normal life after her tragic injury, I have a concern.  It was my understanding that her mother was unable to come to the US with her because she just had a baby.  Yet I heard Teeve call her sponsor "mommy".  I sincerely hope that Teeve will be able to join her family in Iraq after all her medical procedures with as easy a transition as possible.  I picture the possibity of  a screaming child being dragged away from a fairy godmother onto a plane.  Can someone reassure me that the relationship of sponsor and child has the proper boundaries?

09/02 Ask The Doctors

Quote From: jeeperzlw

For the first time in my life, I feel compelled to provide one viewer's opinion on today's show.  As a breast cancer survivor, I was totally insulted by your show's compassion for Kristen's feelings of being inadequate because she is 'un-even.'  She needed to be educated in what really matters in life, rather than rewarded with cosmetic surgery.  I am furious that she was considered worthy to be on the same show as the little girl who survived a car bombing in Iraq, and I am furious that it appears to be a terrible thing to be 'un-even.'  How would Kristen feel if she was in a wheelchair, disabled, had breast cancer, or worse yet, faced the horror of the real hero of your show, little Teba.

Your response to Kristen’s situation is quite judgmental and inappropriate!  You have no right to say you have any understanding of how it emotionally effects life as a woman to go through what she has, unless you have yourself!!  Until you've gotten up every morning questioning why you can't just be normal, what you did wrong, not even being able to hug your family and friends because you’re afraid they'll notice, wondering how you'll EVER have the courage to be intimate with someone!  It's absolute horrible, and I know because I went through the EXACT same thing!!  It's not for you to decide who’s suffering is sufficient enough to deserve assistance or compassion!!!

The Doctors vs. Dr. Phil

I got an email the other day announcing that the creators of the Dr. Phil show have come up with another one. This one will be The Doctors and will feature the very doctors that Dr. Phil has on hiw show from time to time.

It's a great idea, but here's the problem. IT WILL AIR AT THE SAME TIME as Dr, Phil (where I live) and will be on a different station!!

What were they thinking?????
