Way To Go

Quote From: huffergal

Hi All,

Today I weighed and had lost 3 pounds this week.  So far,  I am doing better following Dr. Phil's regimen than I did on Weight Watchers, and it isn't nearly as complicated.  I will say that I had formed some better habits when doing Weight Watchers, but as soon as I discontinued the program, I immediately gained back 15 pounds.  Step 4 is really getting me on track, especially using the incompatible activities. I am learning ways to get my mind off food.

Last night, instead of having my usual snack, I played the piano for two hours (it's really hard to eat while playing the piano, lol).  It is something that I seldom allow myself to do--saying to myself that I'm too busy.  But, I seem to find time to sit in front of the tv gorging on snacks.  For the first time -- in I can't remember how many years--I did not do my usual nighttime snacking (my worst habit).  Instead,  I did eat an orange and found it surprisingly refreshing.  I absolutely thought I would not be able to go to sleep without indulging in my junk food.  It was not easy to go to sleep, but once I managed it, I slept all night (something I don't usually do).

I think if we all really poured over the Ultimate Weight Solution, not just a cursory glance, we could all gain (oops - loose) from this.  When I analyzed my eating habits as related in the book, I thought, "no wonder I never keep the weight off".  I have such high hopes for my future.  Let's all give it our best!!

Great job Ann.   Like you said ,we all are facing our bad habits and we are fighting desperately to break them. I too love to sit in front of the tv at night and sample everything that sounds good in the whole house. I have sat down two hours after supper and had ice cream, then a few minutes later half a bag of chips, then after that 10 or 12 peanut clusters and on and on until bed time. Why? Just to be eating I guess. It certainly wasn't from hunger. Well not any more. I'm really giving it my all to break that habit. Lots of nights now, I have a light supper  between 5:00 and  6:00 and NO snack before bed. Or at most, if I truly do get hungry, I have a piece of fruit or a cup of light yogurt, So far thats been working. It's amazing to see what we can accomplish once we set our minds to it. We all have to do what works for us. I too am very hopeful about my future and really enjoy reading everyone elses  personal battles and success stories. It helps a lot. Thanks !      Keep up the good work.

Nothing tastes as good as skinny will feel

At least that is what I keep trying to tell myself when I am feeling weak. I need to lose 50 more lbs. I am hoping that interacting with others on the message board may be the missing link.

Checking in...

For the past 3 days here, it's been crazy with the music festival in town, working hard till 3:30am and sleeping all day just to do it again. So, no exercise for those days. But I couldn't bring myself to check in here until I dragged my tired body out to the backyard to do 30 minutes of aerobics today. Wow, I feel much better. Not only 'cause I got a good workout in but because I can face you all again! Ha ha!!

I've been catching up on everyone's posts and I want to say that I, too, find it a tremendous help that you're all here.

I also want to say that when talking about eating habits, looks like some of us are still eating junk food or fast food. Cutting down your nasty-food portions might seem like a victory but I'll be VERY surprised if anyone shows significant results by including Burger King, Taco Bell and french fries as part of their strategy.

Please make a plan to replace those meals with foods that you cook yourself, like a grilled chicken breast that HASN'T been injected with mayo. I've been in the restaurant and bar biz forever. You others out there in the biz know what I'm talking about. Whole wheat buns grilled on lard (for flavor). Fresh steamed veggies bathed in full-fat butter (for flavor).

I just want to wake you up to what you're really putting in to your body. Doesn't Dr. Phil say not to lie to yourself? Not to fool yourself with those un-truths? If you think it's a healthy eating habit to include only a smaller portion of something full of grease and fat, I believe you're going to continue to find yourself frustrated.

Thanks for listening. Keep up the good work!

I agree with you my mom is my partner to keep tabs on each other and motivate each other and yesterday my sister talked her into Taco bell I could have killed them both.
I have worked in burger king, McDonald and a breakfast bar in a  hotel . Your putting garbage in your mouth. I think if your starting out don't even eat out. you have to  first discipline yourself  and teach yourself how to cook for you and make good food choices before you let some stranger cook your food but if need be go to SUBWAY for your fast food or a deli of some sort. Fresh is the key and lots of veggies no processed foods. When you go grocery shopping stay on the premier of the store mainly in produce. This all in Dr. Phil  book.   good luck I have to remind myself this daily. Stay @ home with 3 kids and a husband you  can eat anything and not gain a pound.

I need help

I am 27 years and weigh 275 lbs.  I am worried about my health.  Walking to the basement makes me short of breath.  I have no motivation to exercise.  I try to watch what I eat, but it never works out because I cook for my fiancee and myself and he only weighs like 160, he gains no weight and hates the stuff I have to eat so I try to make what he wants and I end up eating fatty foods-and I mean ALOT.  More than I would eat if I was cooking healthier foods.  I would love to loose 100 lbs. but I feel like I better keep my goals somewhat practical, because at this point I can't lose a pound.  I am just tired of living like this.  I can't stand to even see myself in the mirror.  It disgusts me.  I do not have Dr. Phils book.  I really don't have alot of money, because I just lost my job, but when I get some I want to get this book.  Did anyone find a deal on it?  Do you guys find it good and useful?  Is it helping you actually lose weight?  I have to try something and stick with it.  Please let me know....

Nothing tastes as good as skinny will feel

Today i have decided that not even my Mothers famous valentine fudge will tase as good as skinny will feel. That is a very profound statement for me as we are heading into October and the fal/winter weather that awaits us. Here in Idaho we have fall for about a week, if we are lucky and then winter hits and snow, and cold and it lasts for what seems like forever.  October is also a hard month for me because my mother died 23 years ago tomorrow. This day usually marks the day that depression sets in and I let my cravings take over and I put on quite a bit of weight during the holidays. last year I lost 50lbs and then gained 17 of that back through the holidays. I always try and start out with good intentions, and say that this year I will do better, but somehow my emotions get the better of me. I really want this year to be different. i want to give my family a special gift. I want to be here, meddling in their lives for a long time. I want to be able to spend time with my grandchildren that I am hoping to have some day. This year not even my Moms' valentine fudge will taste as good as skinny will feel.

Deb in Idaho, land of eternal winter!

newbie

I just joined today.  I actually have been working out for almost 2 years (walking and playing on an indoor coed soccer team) and have not lost a pound.  It was not until recently that I really started watching what I was eating and I even started running.  I would really like to lose around 60-65 pounds.  I am to the point that I really need and want to do something and for myself not anyone else.  I have 2 daughters that are 8 & 10 and I would like to run around more with them--I definitely can't last as long as I used to. :)  I am proud of myself though, this past weekend I entered a 5K run/walk and I did attempt to run part and walk part of it.  I figured out that I ran about half of it.  I wish I had more support from my husband though.  He does try at times, but at others he say things like "I wish I had my skinny wife back"  and comments like those really hurt and definitely don't help any.  I will definitely try to be a reagular poster on this site and hopefully together we can all help each other reach our goals.  Thank you for listening to me ramble on!  :)

I just wanted to comment on your opinions about fast food & junk food. I think we would all agree that fast food is not the best choice when trying to loose weight. I completely disagree with what you said about including fast food & junk food as part of your diet & still being able to loose weight. I am proof that you can reduce your portion sizes & eat anything you want & loose weight at the same time. The key is to wait to be hungry! I did this without exercise and lost 35lbs!!! I gave up at some point & went back to my old habits.... The program didn't FAIL, I did. You might want to be careful about having such strong opinions about food without having all the facts!
