Happenings around the world aside from the United States and how we feel about it personally and how we believe it will affect our lives as Americans.

Personalized Plates

Quote From: jettav

I agree, going to a court over a silly license plate! wonder what the out come would have been though, if it said "Jesusrocs"? or would that have been to offensive? personally, I really don't care what others have on their license plate and don't understand why others should be. definetly more imporant things to take some one to court over...................

jetta,

I am not overly interested or amused by most personalized plates. I saw one the other day that said "4DR4ME." Wow congradulations Clampetts, first one in the family to get them one of them there four doors. I find the random collection of letters and numbers that have the letters sx in them are the most confusing. I am certain that there is a dirty message in there and I don't mind giving myself an aneurysm trying to figure it out. We really fight the little manifestations of our differences without ever dealing with the differences or our reactions to them. References to Jesus do not make me feel like a sinner, nor does a reference to a gay lifestyle threaten my heterosexual existence such as it is. I think it is just the idea that wrinkles some of us. I guess in our confusion we do not want to hear from anyone who thinks they have it all figured out. I think Jesus wants us to pay attention to the road. It is okay to be ready to meet ones maker, I just don't think they should plan on taking so many others with them.

Kind of Sad

Quote From: hiandby

there's a guy in Kansas that is keeping his amputated foot in a bucket of formaldehyde on his front porch!! Sometimes you just have to let go!

I guess he isn't as attached to it as he used to be. From what I understand his lawsuit was thrown out of court because he didn't have a leg to stand on. I dated a girl who lost her foot in a freak accident. Her name was Eileen. I think I'll stop now.

Good News for the Space Shuttle

Nice to hear that they have resolved their tile problem, thanks to the smart astronauts, and also the Canadarm technology. I wish them a safe return to Earth.

Hi all. I think I'll make this "topic" my Current Events home. Maybe we can re-create our community here instead of dispersing. I hope we all get back together.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if GWB, unwittingly of course, has nominated someone who might actually be a good Supreme Court Justice! Both the left and the right object to him, so what's not to like? What little record he has seems to show that he is intellectually gymnastic, able to decide on merit and argue on principle.

Sure, I could be wrong and probably am, but the hearings this fall should be quite interesting.

 Hey, precious.

You can turn your bluebird rightside up any time you want to. And I think it should stay upside down until you change it.

Click on My Profile, at the top of the page.

Then click on Edit Photograph, under your profile picture. A new little window will appear.

Click Edit.

Put your cursor over the little boxes on the left, and look off to the far right to see what the boxes will do. (You can rotate your picture "degrees clockwise." rofl rofl) Ignore that last bit, please. That's just me poking fun at the people who have failed to do any QA.

I expect to see your pic in a different position very soon. *Tap gets pompoms, cheers JP on*

Hi there!  This whole "Topic" thing is getting on my nerves.  Not too big on this change thing but, oh well, fact of life!!

I find the whole Roberts nomination quite comical.  The left wants to hate him but can't quite figure out why they should and the right is concerned because the left hasn't completely condemned him.

Ahhh I hope we have a good Justice on our hands.

Loretta

I do love your take on the Roberts "problem."

I'm going to ignore the various other Topics. Sally's World Events is what I'm going to check.

Whoever set this up just didn't understand that we were a community who fussed back and forth about various topics. The topics themselves were the least important factor.

For now, the community is fractured but I hope most will find their way back. We're here and Cygne and Hiandby.

I had lots of trouble getting re-registered. I suspect many other regulars had similar problems and just gave up. What a shame.

Where's Grmnldy? Battle! Get back here! I could go on, as I know you could.

Hiroshima

Charles Prewitt was a chemist who worked on the Manhattan Project.  Prewitt has now become a peace activist in part to "allay my guilt feelings about the Manhattan Project."

"Even at 86 years old, it's still very vivid in my mind," Prewitt said.  "There were five of us in the lab when the news came over that Hiroshima was bombed.  There was dead silence.  We all knew what had happened, that so many were now dead.

"Humanity spends $1 trillion on killing each other," he added.  "The U.S. spends about half of that.  Imagine if we spent that on people.  We'd have paradise."  Hartford Courant 8/7/05

Something to contemplate.
