Happenings around the world aside from the United States and how we feel about it personally and how we believe it will affect our lives as Americans.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Quote From: loretta24

Charles Prewitt was a chemist who worked on the Manhattan Project.  Prewitt has now become a peace activist in part to "allay my guilt feelings about the Manhattan Project."

"Even at 86 years old, it's still very vivid in my mind," Prewitt said.  "There were five of us in the lab when the news came over that Hiroshima was bombed.  There was dead silence.  We all knew what had happened, that so many were now dead.

"Humanity spends $1 trillion on killing each other," he added.  "The U.S. spends about half of that.  Imagine if we spent that on people.  We'd have paradise."  Hartford Courant 8/7/05

Something to contemplate.

PBS aired a documentary a few days ago about the aftermath. I watched as much as I could tolerate. We are, it seems true, descended from the killer ape. I wish it were not so and that we could find a way to see fellows of a different tribe as our kin. Instead, we give others disparaging names so that we can justify dominating or killing them.

Well now, that was a depressing thought.

Hi Tap

Quote From: loretta24

Hi there!  This whole "Topic" thing is getting on my nerves.  Not too big on this change thing but, oh well, fact of life!!

I find the whole Roberts nomination quite comical.  The left wants to hate him but can't quite figure out why they should and the right is concerned because the left hasn't completely condemned him.

Ahhh I hope we have a good Justice on our hands.

I had a hard time re-registering so I had to register under a slightly changed username. I'm glad to see you back here. Missed ya. I hope this board only attracts the considerate and polite posters we had on the previous board and also new ones.

Ciao

Goodbye to Peter Jennings

A Canadian born journalist with a great personality. Later became a huge American journalist and traveled abroad in very dangerous areas to do his job because he had such passion about it.

Like Pres. Bush said: " He will be missed."

Nice to see you back!

I say to myself, the nice guys leave first because they're finished doing their good deeds before us. It's for us to take over. LOL!

Cute dogs those Golden Retrievers. Very good animals.

My dog Bear loves Okanagan lake too. We rented a cabin one Christmas and he went swimming in the icy cold water! What a goof!!

The reason I would watch ABC News over the other networks was his style.  I can clearly remember one of his broadcast right after Sept. 11th where he said he had just talked to his daughter on the other coast and encouraged the rest of us to do the same and call loved ones.   He certainly achieved much in his life, quite impressive when you consider he was a high school dropout.
