Cute dogs those Golden Retrievers. Very good animals.

My dog Bear loves Okanagan lake too. We rented a cabin one Christmas and he went swimming in the icy cold water! What a goof!!

I'm a real dog lover! Would have a few more if I wasn't working!Would love to have a Bernese Mountain Dog to play with Allie! I'm a little concerned about Christmas in Kelowna this year...Allie loves the water so much its hard to keep her out....arthritis here we come! But my nephew wil be home for the 1st Christmas in 4 years with his girlfriend in tow from Australia and I'm not missing it!

LORETTA

Quote From: loretta24

The reason I would watch ABC News over the other networks was his style.  I can clearly remember one of his broadcast right after Sept. 11th where he said he had just talked to his daughter on the other coast and encouraged the rest of us to do the same and call loved ones.   He certainly achieved much in his life, quite impressive when you consider he was a high school dropout.

I always found that Peter Jennings always had such tact. I've never seen him go too far with a interview just to get the ratings. He had a lot of class.

And speaking of lung cancer, you would think that Christopher Reeve's widow has gone through enough in the past decade, now she has to put up with her own illness. My heart goes out to her and her family.

I've had Bear for 12 years. He's a Chow/Labrador cross. He's a lot of work now. He's getting old and he gets anxious about a lot of things. I'm sure it's the age. Sometimes I'd like to give him a valium so he'd calm down. We moved to a new house a couple of months ago and he just can't seem to totally settle in. He follows me around all day. It drives me insane!!!!

I'm debating whether I wan't another dog after him. I do love the company at times, but too much of a good thing is insane. LOL!!! Big dogs are so much harder to take care of. I think as I get older, and my kid is gone, I don't want anymore kids to take care of. And this dog is like a 2 year old kid sometimes.

I was so sorry to hear the news of Reeve's widow.  If anyone has the strength to endure the road ahead it would be her.

In Jennings case, maybe some good can come of this...I'm watching ABC's tribute now and they are highlighting the risks of smoking.  He did quite a bit a reporting on the effects of tobacco, as well as the tobacco industry and politician.

Such a loss, a quality journalist, not enough of them out there.

and had to put her down...swore I wouldn't go thru that again! I lasted about 7 weeks and came home one day and told hubby that's it, it doesn't feel like home without a dog. My son flew me over to Cobblehill on Vancouver Island and we picked Allie out.First time I ahd flown with him! Man, those small planes are a little too tin canny for my liking!!But to this day Allie pays attention to planes in the sky...maybe she remembers or maybe its just a REALLy big bird! We live in Ladner so she spends alot of time looking up! Boundary Bay Airport is one of the biggest training airports in North America. You know what is really scary?Alot of those small planes are being flown by unlicensed pilots who are qualified to fly solo...but not licensed! Go figure! My son got his license there and still flies out of there.Flies down the length of our cul-de-sac and wags his wings at us.He'll be flying the school plane out to the Abbotsford Airshow on Saturday and putting it in the static display with brochures for the pilot want-to-bes. Boy I'm long winded tonight...sorry if I'm boring anyone! In days of the past I would have been told off by now ..."this is a current events  board" etc etc....

at the possibility of losing his Mom too...and I can't imagine how she must feel watching him deal with everything.Yes I do think she has the fight to deal with this awful diseaese but its not just the disease that must be frightening but leaving him as well. She'll be digging deep, VERY DEEP ,to muster up all her strength if not for herself but for him

I live across the highway from the airport. I've had big jets flying over and practicing all week. Too cool! I guess the American Thunderbirds are going to be there. We should be able to see the show from our back yard. Looking forward to it. Just moved here.

Your not rambling, you're just a proud Mom.

Maybe I'll feel the same way when Bear leaves the planet. I may want another dog. But next time, if I decide, I will choose a lower maintenance dog. It's impossible to give a large dog a bath by myself, let alone clip is claws!!!

tell it ,the Thunderbirds are better than the Blue Angels.A very good friend of ours was Canada's "top Gun" pilot about 15 years ago.He use to go down and teach the Blue Angels a few things.Terry was the first pilot to ever take an F-18 below 100 miles? knots? oh whatever ( my son would being giving me what for if he were here). We were at the airshow when he did a "square Loop" Now that was frightening to watch! He flew parallel to the runway at a very low altitude , did a90 degree angle straight up, another one back at the high altitude parallel to the runway, shot straight down towards the runway and quickly (thank God) did a 90 degree turn to run parallel again. VERY frightening to watch him head straight at the tarmac and not turn until the last minute! McDonald Douglas and Boeing were after him to be a test pilot but he stayed in the forces for a few more years and now he's a pilot with Westjet....hope he doesn't get any urges to relive his past while he's at the controls! Enjoy the show this weekend it should be good!

Watching my own son heading for his "possible" death? I don't think I could watch, even though he's had all these hours and hours of training.

I was watching them do that with a small single engine last week. Man o man, if that engine quits, the can kiss their a$$es goodbye!!! There's never been any disasters in Abbotsford has there? I guess last year in Saskatchewan there was one. I think they love the adrenaline rush more than the public does. They love to flirt with death.

I have a hard time watching, let alone watching a loved one. I can understand where you're coming from.

Determined Mom

Heard about this woman and admire her determination to get answers.

Cindy Sheehan's eyes well with tears when she talks about her oldest son, Casey, an easygoing young man with a quiet wit.  Casey joined the Army in 2000, never imagining he would see combat. Five days after he arrived in Iraq last year, the 24-year-old was killed in Sadr City.

Sheehan knows nothing can bring back her son, but she wants to talk to President Bush. The Vacaville, Calif., mother has been camping out along a road near his ranch since Saturday, vowing to remain until his Texas vacation ends later this month.

Before my son was killed, I used to think that one person could not make a difference," she said Wednesday under a tent where she has slept since arriving. "But one person that is surrounded and supported by millions of people can be heard."

‘Pointless’ meeting with Bush staff
Bush National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley and a deputy White House chief of staff talked to Sheehan on Saturday. She said the meeting, which she called "pointless," lasted 20 minutes. The White House said it lasted 45 minutes.

By Thursday, about 50 people had joined her cause, pitching tents in muddy, shallow ditches and hanging anti-war banners; two dozen others have sent flowers. Her name was among the most popular search topics Wednesday on Internet blogs.

The soft-spoken Sheehan, 48, is surprised and touched at the overwhelming response — most of which is positive, she says.

But not everyone supports her. Kristinn Taylor, co-leader of the Washington, D.C., chapter of FreeRepublic.com, said Sheehan's protest is misguided and is hurting troop morale.

"She has a political agenda that goes way beyond her son's death in combat," said Taylor, whose conservative group has held pro-troop rallies since the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and counter-protests of anti-war demonstrations.

Sheehan, a Catholic youth minister for eight years, never wanted Casey to join the military. She said he did after being misled by his recruiter. Although he also opposed the war, he didn't try to back out.

"I begged him not to go," she said through tears. "I said, 'I'll take you to Canada' ... but he said, 'Mom, I have to go. It's my duty. My buddies are going.'"

*I wonder is Kristtin Taylor has paid the same price as Sheehan.  Unless she has I don't think she has any right to judge Sheehan's political agenda.  This woman has paid the ultimate price, I know it would be difficult for the President to have to answer questions about why we are in Iraq but seems to me that she has paid the price.
