Oh I'm sorry if I confused you

Quote From: cygne88

Watching my own son heading for his "possible" death? I don't think I could watch, even though he's had all these hours and hours of training.

I was watching them do that with a small single engine last week. Man o man, if that engine quits, the can kiss their a$$es goodbye!!! There's never been any disasters in Abbotsford has there? I guess last year in Saskatchewan there was one. I think they love the adrenaline rush more than the public does. They love to flirt with death.

I have a hard time watching, let alone watching a loved one. I can understand where you're coming from.

it wasn't my son doing the square loop but a very good friend...but I know my son has been doing some things like dropping in altitude very quickly so he can make a pen float in the air.Pulled that one on his girlfriend the first time he took her...needless to say her stomach was also floating! He has always had a need for adrenalin.Started scuba diving when he was 15 and flying when he was 16.Now he wants to try sky diving! My reply was "why would you want to jump out of a perfectly good plane"...his response .." but Mom wouldn't you want me to be able to jump to safety if my plane had  a problem"...and this is suppose to make a Mom feel better?!?! Lots of friends have asked me why I let him do it.Since he was 4, flying has been the only thing on his mind.He has every computer flying program, about 20 videos of different jets and about 2 dozen books. He can tell what kind of jet it is just by showing him  a profile. He's talked to the Cdn Military , the American military and even the German military. This is where I get vocal...."go fly bush pilot in Manitoba where there are no mountains and stay out of the military scene! At least my younger son doesn't have the adrenalin need like his brother!.

This woman lost

Quote From: loretta24

Heard about this woman and admire her determination to get answers.

Cindy Sheehan's eyes well with tears when she talks about her oldest son, Casey, an easygoing young man with a quiet wit.  Casey joined the Army in 2000, never imagining he would see combat. Five days after he arrived in Iraq last year, the 24-year-old was killed in Sadr City.

Sheehan knows nothing can bring back her son, but she wants to talk to President Bush. The Vacaville, Calif., mother has been camping out along a road near his ranch since Saturday, vowing to remain until his Texas vacation ends later this month.

Before my son was killed, I used to think that one person could not make a difference," she said Wednesday under a tent where she has slept since arriving. "But one person that is surrounded and supported by millions of people can be heard."

‘Pointless’ meeting with Bush staff
Bush National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley and a deputy White House chief of staff talked to Sheehan on Saturday. She said the meeting, which she called "pointless," lasted 20 minutes. The White House said it lasted 45 minutes.

By Thursday, about 50 people had joined her cause, pitching tents in muddy, shallow ditches and hanging anti-war banners; two dozen others have sent flowers. Her name was among the most popular search topics Wednesday on Internet blogs.

The soft-spoken Sheehan, 48, is surprised and touched at the overwhelming response — most of which is positive, she says.

But not everyone supports her. Kristinn Taylor, co-leader of the Washington, D.C., chapter of FreeRepublic.com, said Sheehan's protest is misguided and is hurting troop morale.

"She has a political agenda that goes way beyond her son's death in combat," said Taylor, whose conservative group has held pro-troop rallies since the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and counter-protests of anti-war demonstrations.

Sheehan, a Catholic youth minister for eight years, never wanted Casey to join the military. She said he did after being misled by his recruiter. Although he also opposed the war, he didn't try to back out.

"I begged him not to go," she said through tears. "I said, 'I'll take you to Canada' ... but he said, 'Mom, I have to go. It's my duty. My buddies are going.'"

*I wonder is Kristtin Taylor has paid the same price as Sheehan.  Unless she has I don't think she has any right to judge Sheehan's political agenda.  This woman has paid the ultimate price, I know it would be difficult for the President to have to answer questions about why we are in Iraq but seems to me that she has paid the price.

her son ,her marriage and her faith in her gov't .As far as she is concerned the gov't sent her son to his death based on lies, she has every right to protest. She wants to ask Pres GWB if he would have sent one or both of his twins...thats an excellent question for all the politicians in Washington. As far as I know there is only one guy in Wash .who has a child that is or has served. And this business about not being able to support your troops if you don't support the cause is a pile of crap....the troops had faith in their government to send them into war when the cause was real and based on proven fact...that has been proven to not be the case this time.Yes Sadam had to be dealt with but he's not the one who killed all those people on American ground. When is the last time you heard Washington bring up Bin Laden in any great detail? If anything the troops in Iraq are more deserving of support than ever before because alot of them are asking why.Yes I wonder if Kristin Taylor has paid the price that Sheehan has? That's a very good question. And how many of the politicians have paid the price that she has Why is it ok for the poor to fight for the country but not the rich. This is the only good reason I can think of for the draft.

Are you sure you are not a fellow frustrated "Blue Stater"???

Not too long ago I read an editorial letter in my local paper which addressed the issue of politicians children serving.  The writer made the point that when he served in the military, the sons of politicians served as well.  It was expected that they serve as well.  It was your duty to serve and an honor.  He made the comparision to this war, where as you stated maybe one child is serving and how can they choose to send other people's children to war when they aren't willing to send their own?

It is my belief that this war was planned before Sept. 11th, that we will never be able to prove that Bush had knowledge, that this war and Bush will slowly bury our country in so much debt that my great-great grandchildren will have to deal with the financial mess.  But I could be wrong!!!???!?!?

I was expecting to have to defend my right to have an opinion on the topic and instead I'm sitting here with a smile on my face! Do you think Jeb will be the next Bush to try to go to Washington?

I think I am going to need a nice long break from Bushs' in the White House!  It will be interesting to see who runs in 2008.  If the Republicans and Democrats are wise they should both put up moderate canidates and get religion out of politics.  But using wise and politics in the same sentence.....well you never know, miracles happen!!

As far as defending your right to an opinion, won't ever have to with me at least.  Even if I don't agree with someone's opinion and they are just wrong, wrong, wrong(lol)...I'll defend their right to express it.

Keep smiling!

Hiandby and Cygne

 Hi, there!

Hiandby, I had a Golden a few years back. She was a fabulous dog, if a little too obsequious at times. I named her Jessie, after Jessica Tate from Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. Jessie wouldn't leave my side and would do anything I asked of her, if she could just figure out what that was. I taught her hand signals (basic obedience) and was really glad I had because when she was about 13 she was deaf. I still miss that dog.

Cygne, when I saw your picture of Bear, I thought you'd come across a picture of another of my dogs, Blackie. (He came with that name. hehe) Sure enough, Bear's a chow/lab mix. I'm really glad you posted the picture. It brought back good memories of a dog that fiercely protected all of his territory from racoons, 'possums, rabbits, and other interlopers. None of my other dogs has ever compared to him in this respect.

I have to say "President Jeb" just sounds comical to me. But I don't think it would be a laughing matter to be quite honest! We (Canadians ) just lost a wonderful politician to melanoma. Chuck Cadman was what every politician should aim to be...he did what his constituents asked of him...he met in the local dinner for breakfast with his constituents and he listened. He was a grass roots blue collar guy, even wore jeans to parliament and had pony tail. He got into politics because he wanted to see changes made to The Young Offenders Act after his son was needlessly murdered. He was just an up front honest guy with a high set of standards and morals that got into politics for the right reasons and not the notoriety or money We need more like him.So often politicians kiss the voters butts until they get elected and then they don't do squat. They pull the party line instaed of listening to their conscience and the people that elected them. I've always maintained that ANYONE, who believes that their politicians are completely honest with the people and above board is a fool...while Chuck Cadman made me realize that once in a VERY blue moon the public can get it right and elect a guy ( or woman ) with integrity.Mind you we can only work with who the party decides to run and thats usually the base of the whole problem...very few decent people  would want to be called a politician.....what an insult!!! You can call me many things but don't ever use "politician" Have a wonderful day .I'm off to Bellingham Washington for a girl's day of shopping.

Back in the days when we did have the draft, the poor and unconnected were still disproportionately the ones we sent off to kill and be killed. But I certainly share your sentiment.

In a similar vein, I've always thought that every single congressperson should be required to fill out their own US tax return, without help from anyone. (Maybe Loretta's got a spare miracle. Taxpayers need one!)

Golden and she's "my girl" I live in a house over flowing with testosterone so its nice to have another female around! She also has been taught hand signals which work very well providing there is no water in sight and then it's alost cause.I swear she could get saturated in a cup of water! She loves to dive under water and retrieve things from the lake bottom which is always good for a few comments from any spectators. The people at the rowing club call her "dredger" because she's constantly pawing at the lake bottom for anything to bring back to shore...shoes, milk jugs, beer cans.Whatever the polluters of the world discard she retrieves. It's a little embarassing when she greets your quests with hubby's underwear though! Had to get a laundry basket with a lid not to soon after she arrived!
