Now about the Obama et al

Hey I like Obama.  I really do.  But... after all the polished body of politic I suppose I am wary.  He looks sincere but it seems somewhat practiced.  I know, I know, it is their profession but, after GWB I get concerned.

Edwards I love.  I think his family and him are solid people but, I don't trust him.  He has the wrong focus and he had not made a firm statement.

I realise I could say the above about Obama but, Edwards has been in the game longer and he should by this time be able to give a clear message.  So far he has (as far as I am concerned) been deliberately wishy washy about anything that matters ie: Iraq, Iran, Medical, etc.  This to me is a sign of a "politician" not a man of the people he promotes himself to be.

Woooo....  I have not had a good conversation about politiics like this in a long time.

Aw, Taylor

Quote From: taylorleea

It was just  a really hard time, comming back and forth between Co and BC.  Rick and I went through a clusterfrick of emotions and to be totally honest I wanted to string that man up by his knackers.  Men suck at handling anything so it sat in my lap to do the deed (first time I ever experienced this).

Things are good now.  Sam is speaking, and it is hard to tell he has Autism.  Further we have found he is somewhat savante.   He sight reads and has an excellent sense of humour.

During the last year, my mother died, my uncle (who was my soul mate) died and I had to look after my sister-in-law (husband of one year turned out to be a crack head).

I got really tired.

Now, so very good.  Took some time, worked it out and found a place.

Jeesh Tap.  I'm sorry I didn't get back to you.

It's so great that life has improved for you. The news about Sam speaking and his progress is especially good. I knew you were in a rough period but had no idea how rough it  was. Just coping with your children would have been enough to reduce many people to puddles.

In general, you're absolutely right about men sucking at handling emotional situations, whatever the cause. They're hardwired to fight, but what is there to bomb or hit?

For the time being, Loretta, you and I are the only ones here. Battle is AWOL, but I'm sure he'll show up some day. Haven't seen Cygne for a while, either. And I was gone for six months or so, too.

It's so good to have you back!

You're making me work overtime, here. humpf

"He looks sincere but it seems somewhat practiced." Surely you can do better than that! Biden, I think, said he was "articulate and clean." rofl Are these examples of "too good to be true"? Could be. He is a politician and, I contend, all politicians are crooks and liars until proven otherwise. So far, no counterexamples have appeared, but it's a matter of degree and emphasis.

What's wrong with Edwards' focus? I thought it was health care. And he repudiated his Iraqi war vote. You don't trust him. Ok. No argument. He's a politician and rich. Nothing new there.

Obama is, has always been, solid on Iraq and Iran. In some ways, I don't much care about anything else right now. And I love listening to him, regardless of the words. When Obama speaks, he brings credit to America, unlike the embarrassment who now speaks for us.

What I like right now is that Democrats have a sterling crop of candidates. There's something wrong with each of them, but, damn! they're good, on the whole. Of course, the fools among their staffs will probably find ways for the candidates to chew each other up -- witness the idiotic kerfuffle between Hillary and Obama last week. Ugh. Both of them behaved badly. But Obama did publically tell his staff to knock it off and take the high road. We'll see.

Politicians

Can any of them really be trusted???

Taylor, good to "see" you.  Nice to see some activity in here.  Now if Cygne and Battle would show up....

What I would love to see in 2008 is Guliani vs. anyone but Hillary.  Why?  Because I don't see how that man would be able to get much support from the south/midwest.  He would be able to sway some northeast and west coast Democrats but I don't know how many conservative Republicans would go his way.

I don't think Hillary is electable at this point, Bill's actions are too close in the memories of many who are looking for a reason to oppose her.  I did vote for her once (we moved so I couldn't again) and I will say that many I've spoken with feel she has done a good job representing them, wish I could say the same about Joe.  The time isn't right and it is too damn important to get someone in the White House who can try and undo the damage of the Bush administration.

McCain worries me.  At one time I liked him, no longer, too much pandering to the religious right.  He may be able to sway some Dems though and that concerns me.  Romney might be fun, pro-choice, pro-life, pro-choice...we get to say flip flopper this time!!!!

What I would love to see is sometime this fall, after he polishes his Oscar and recovers from the concert, Al Gore to say "You know what my country needs me right now and guess what, I'm running for president."  It would be such an amazing maneuver on his part, get the popularity going, the save the world thing going and slide right on into where he should have been if it wasn't for that crazy state of Florida.

I hate to rush time but 2008 here we come!!!

Loretta

As expected, you come through.

Al Gore for President! Barack Obama for VIce President! That's my dream ticket.

Hillary will never have my full support, even if she becomes the Dem nominee.

Guilliani's name is even harder to spell than Obama's. I'm opting for Rudy, henceforth.

I can't stand McCain. He let GWB's machine slime him and his family. It's one thing for politicians to attack each other and get personal, but it's something else when they go after the kids. McCain had my respect, though never my vote, until he rolled over. To me, McCain then became a poster boy for the worst that "politician" can mean.

I'd totally vote for Al Gore on the global warming issue alone. An Inconvenient Truth was a very powerful documentary..made me cry more than once.

Welcome!

I haven't seen "An Inconvenient Truth" yet. Gore has had my respect for years because of his stands on issues and his clear foresight.  He is a more relaxed, less sonorous, speaker now and I so very much wish he would run. Well, I think I want him to run. It's possible Earth will be more likely to be able to continue to support human habitation if he stays away from politics and speaks as a citizen.

Distilled, my thought is that we won't lose no matter what Gore decides.

Republican Candidates

While of course I am concerned about who will get the Democratic nod, the Republicans have been pretty interesting lately.

We have Rudy, who no matter what he does will never be able to sway the religious right that seems to have hijacked the Republican party.  The man has been married 3 times, he is pro choice, pro gay marriage (he's starting to sound like a Dem) and plus he's a NEW YORKER!!  Not that I have anything against New Yorkers, I married one and gave birth to 3 but they can be a bit abrasive to the rest of the country.

Then in the number 2 spot we have McCain and the religious right doesn't like him either.  Something that we can agree on!!!

And bringing up the rear in the top 3 is Romney.  A New England Republican which I don't think plays any better in the south than a New York Repub.  Not to mention the fact that he was pro choice and pro gay marriage when he ran not too long ago.  Now it seems he had seen the light and changed his mind.  Too convenient for me. Then to top it off according to recent polls a quarter of Americans say they wouldn't vote for a Mormon for president and 53 percent of evangelicals wouldn't vote for a Mormon for president.  I don't get that but it's not like I vote in the Republican primary.

I can only hope the political machine that put the current occupant in the White House has begun to lose a few nuts and fall apart.  The first nut was poor Scooter.

By the way Tap, did you hear about the great state of Vermont's recent Town Meeting votes?  30 towns voted to impeach both Bush and Cheney.  Not only is the state amazingly beautiful but brilliant as well.

I think I'm going to let you write my thoughts for me. Your analysis of the Repub candidates is so very good!

Did you know that the IAFF (firefighters union) hates Rudy? Here's what they have to say about him: [http://www.firefightingnews.com/article-US.cfm?articleID=27125

Poor Scooter. Now here's where I'm going to part ways with you, for a split second. Anybody who's willing to take a fall for creatures like Cheney and Rove deserves serious jail time. I have no sympathy for him, though he does look pretty pathethic.

Lots of times (not days) I wish I were Canadian. Now I wish I were a Vermonter. 'Cept they're both so danged cold. :-(
