As the nation suffers through an economic meltdown, many Americans resort to drastic measures to keep their families afloat. Just how far would you go to stay in the black? Laura and her husband, Allen, say they’ve made nearly $1 million in the last six years. There’s just one problem –- they don’t have jobs! Self-proclaimed professional shoplifters, the couple says they travel across state lines to steal TVs, toys, electronics and more –- and they often take their three young children along on their heists. They videotape themselves to show Dr. Phil how they get away with nabbing big-ticket items. Do Laura and Allen just get a thrill from thievery, or are they kleptomaniacs? Can the couple quit for good before they get arrested and lose their children? Then, Tami and Chris have a beautiful house, three cars and two children. But Tami says her husband is shattering their idyllic home life with his shoplifting addiction. She says he’s been arrested four times and was recently sentenced to 90 days in state prison. Chris joins Dr. Phil via satellite from jail to tell his side of the story. Find out why he says he can’t stop stealing, but when he hears his 4-year-old daughter's emotional plea, will he change his mind? And, Tami’s mom, Marilyn, calls Chris a pathological liar and says her daughter needs to kick him to the curb. Is Chris beyond redemption? Will he be able to clean up his act? Tell us what you think!

Find out what happened on the show.

for Chris

I  hope  Chris  finds  that  his  nuro brain  transmitters  hear  that  precious  little  voice
"crying  "  I  want  my  daddy
every  time   he  hears  the thrill  seeking   little  voice  saying
"take me"  Im  just  sitting  here  on  the  shelf  for  you  to  try  it!!
and  he  looses  the  thrill  of  taking other peoples  belongings
and  gets  out  of  the  pen  and  returns  to  his  wife  and  little  Angel  daughter !

I  cried  when  I  saw  how  much  that  little  one  really  wanted  her  daddy  !
It  was  heart wrenching !

there is  tremendous  value  in  Chris learning  to  love and value  people
more  than  he  loves  taking  peoples  things!
just  hoping  that  in  him  loosing  some  things  he  does  not  need  to  for  all  the  whole  world  ,for  a while  will  redeem  him  ,and  help  his  brain  transmitters  to  work  better .
things  are  replaceable
loosing  one  day  of not  being  there  to  Love  and  nurture  a  wife  and  daughter  and  be  a  father  is  things  he  can  never  get  back  ,and  it  is  so  not  worth  it  to loose the  priceless people  in  life  for  the  thrill  of  taking  things !
Is  Chris  redeemable ?   YES  he  is  redeemable
I pray  he  gets the  help  he  needs .
The  price  the  ones  who  love  him and  miss  him are  paying
is  off  the   charts  heartbreaking

Oh Puleeze!

That couple were a couple of con-artists.  They were on the show looking to play an angle.  The, "I'm a klepto," claim by what I loosely call, "Mom," was lame at best.  His attempt at sympathy, the, "I'm addicted," defense was even worse.  It will be interesting to see how the defense atty is gonna play this one.

Anyone in law enforcement/corrections who saw these two future inmates knew what they were the min. they opened their mouths.  Their type always has an angle and are always looking to work the system or an individual.  If sympathy doesn't work then agressive threats of lawsuits, police, or even physical violence will be employed to get out of being caught or in this case punishment.  Being on the Dr. Phil show was just a typical con-artist ploy, (sympathy), but on a grander scale.

And the West Coast Shoplifters Award goes to....

Laura and Allen! Yaaaaaay! We couldn't believe she actually said that, as though they'd gone to a shoplifter's convention and won a gold statue of a security guard.

Those two smug idiots cracked us up. They really saw themselves as awesome con-artists, while committing the same crime 12 year old kids do. If they worked as hard at an honest job as they do at stealing, they would have regular incomes and health benefits, but noooo, they're too smart for that -- they've figured out you can steal stuff and sell it on e-bay. Brilliant.

They would just be good to laugh at, with their buggies full of diaper bags and DVD's, if it wasn't for the poor minimum wage store employee who is going to be in trouble over the shrinkage in his department. and the higher prices for the rest of us.

The last man did really seem to have an emotional problem but he's going to have to get tough with himself. I really hope he pulls himself together and they make a go of their marriage for the little girl's sake.

11/19 Shoplifting Confessions

Quote From: aldasue

I just wanted to thank you for this show on shoplifting.  My husband is currently taking classes for his degree in Loss Prevention and I am sure that he will find this very interesting and informational.  He also is contacting his professor to alert him to this episode so that others in his class can also see this information.  while the subject and its victims (especially the families) are sad, once again I would like to thank you for airing such important information. sue in mid-michigan
I've been in loss prevention for over 15 years at a major retail store in Texas, I would of loved to caught those to idiots. The only reason there on the show is the detectives are knocking at there door. CPS needs to take the kids, they need to go to state prison we do have a chain gang in lousiana.

Shoplifting

What I don't understand is why the cops weren't standing at the exit door waiting to take these people into custody?

For Laura and Allen

I just wanted to say that no matter what these two should have state and federal charges brought up on them... going to a completely different state and then mailing the stolen things back... what happen with the post office they can loose letters from our love ones around the holidays and we will be lucky to get the buy feb and some will be lucky to get even some of them all others will be lost with the postal workers sayign were sorry with the high rate of mail coming thru around this time we must have just misplaces it.... but these ppl mail multiples of the same item probably to the exact same address and nobody raises an eyebrow???? I use to work at walmart and all them electronic items were probably takin from walmart or some place like it and all the items like that some way shape or form gets taken away from the workers.... with big screen tvs the ppl in the electronic get in trouble because someone exscapes thru the side door or almost pumbles over the people greetors standing at the front door.... When will some people learn that just because a job means something more than 8 hours on their behinds or in front of the tv or playing video games,, you still have to work to survive and if u arent working and cant afford anything than that is just your own fault.... that is why when most of them are put on probation for the first time they normally have to have a job to try to make themselves look good for their P.O but as soon as they are of probation they quit their job and go back to the streets.....

Children of Thieves

Dear Dr. Phil,

Thank you so much for doing this show!  As an adult child of a professional thief, I think it's so important that people are aware of the tricks these con-artists use.  I have several memories of my mom using my little sister and I to get stolen items out of stores.  At one point she actually had me stand next to a TV that she had just stolen from a Radio Shack and even had the nerve to ask a mall security guard to keep an eye on me while she pulled the car up to load the TV!

You talked a little bit about the fact that society, as a whole, pays a price for the actions of these criminals.  However, the largest price is paid by their children!  My mother was a professional thief (both shoplifting and fraud) who was wanted in 36 states by the time I was nine years old.  By the time I was ten, I had already spent over six years in foster care in three different states, as well as Canada.  At that time my mom was serving her sentence in a federal prison. Soon after my tenth birthday they ended up terminating her parental rights and deporting her rather than sentencing her to life in federal prison.  She went free while my sister and I paid for her crime.  We were sentenced to a life of abuse and neglect in foster care until we eventually aged out of the system.  Even though my mother passed away in August, 2008, my sister and I continue to pay for her decisions.  You see, while my mother may have robbed corporations and even society as a whole, she stole much more than that...her decisions stole our childhood.

Thank you for bringing this subject to the public's attention.  I pray that a better public awareness will dissuade others from these crimes in the future.  They need to remember that they are not the only ones who will pay for their crimes when they get caught!

HUH???

Quote From: efffy_

I would definitely steal if I needed shelter, or to keep from starving. Survival is every humans right.

STEALING IS NOTTTT A HUMAN "RIGHTTTT"<<SMILING AT THIS.  YOUR 'HUMAN RIGHT' IS TO GO OUT AND SEARCH FOR A BOX TO SLEEP IN WHEN YOU'RE COLD, OR TO HUNT FOR AN ANIMAL TO EAT BECAUSE YOU'RE HUNGRY.  BY THE WAY, HOMELESS SHELTERS ALSO PROVIDE THAT.  "THOU SHALL NOT STEAL", ARE GOOD WORDS FROM GOD TO LIVE BY.  HE GAVE US THOSE COMMANDMENTS SO WE WOULD NOTTTT GET OURSELVES INTO TROUBLE.  IS IT YOUR HUMAN "RIGHT" TO GO OUT AND HOLD UP A CONVENIENCE STORE WITH A GUN TOO??  OR MAYBE YOU FEEL IT'S "YOUR RIGHT" TO BEAT AN OLD WOMAN TO GET HER PURSE WITH TWO DOLLARS IN IT???  AMERICAN'S NEED MORE SELF~RESPECT FOR THEMSELVES, ANDDDD FOR OTHERS.

shoplifters

I couldn't believe that couple , they were proud to be thieves. They need to both go to jail, if they don't there is no justice. I wrote and forged three checks one day, total amount a little over 300 dollars, I got 9 felonies from that and 90 years, i spent one year in prison though.  I had a drug probelm at the time. These two show no shame,  They have never been to jail probably. I think a taste of it would be good for them. They disgusted me with their shamelessness.

That's what I was wondering too.
