It’s a hot-button topic in California and around the country: The passage of Proposition 8, which reinstated a ban on same-sex marriage. Supporters of this initiative voted to preserve the sanctity of marriage solely between a man and a woman. Opponents of Prop 8 say it violates the constitutional rights of the gay community and that America’s laws should treat everyone equally. Since Election Day, numerous protests and rallies have been organized to overturn the law, and the debates are getting heated regarding this highly personal and controversial topic. Dr. Phil’s guests debate their opposing points of view: Discrimination attorney Gloria Allred, president of the Human Rights Campaign Joe Solmonese, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, Pastor Jim Garlow, president of National Organization of Marriage Maggie Gallagher and co-campaign manager for the Yes on 8 Campaign Jeff Flint. Whatever your beliefs, you won’t want to miss this show! Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Do you have a strong opinion on this debate? E-mail Dr. Phil and speak out about the same-sex marriage show!

prop 8 is more than homosexual and lesbian marriage...it's more than two women or two men "loving" each other......this is a breakdown of one of the foundational cornerstones of our society...this is only the first crack in the backbone of our society....this is really not about your "love" and committment to your partner......this is about a free for all, anything goes, licensced licentiousness, pedastry, polygamy, harems etc. This is about opening the floodgates to any form of sexual preference. This is NOT about just two people of the same sex loving each other.  You think it is....not.

My friend was at a party recently, a man was conversing with a beautiful young lady..nothing unusual.....but, my friend knew something was up...she questioned the man. He said he was building up his harem...in his country they have harems and so he was establishing his harem here in the U.S.

The Koran says to beat your wives.  Should not the followers of Islam have the freedom to follow their religion?  The Koran says 4 wives are O.K. The founder of Islam had relations with his 9 year old wife (one of 13). Should not followers of Islam be free to follow their own culture/religion/values.

This is about a free for all. Equal rights for pedastry. Equal rights for.......whatever. Dangerous.

Different cultures?   Different religious affiliations and social practices.

Christianity with its incessant support of slavery and women as chattel is comparable in this way and certainly no exemplary example of an organized religion.

You create a perfect argument for Atheism.

Your response perfectly demonstrates my point "the christians say hate the sin, love the sinner. The homosexuals and lesbians hear "I hate you. You're a bigot." Your retort was excellent.

Homosexual and lesbian "rights" are not civil rights. It's a figment of your imagination or fantasy.

And again I repeat...George Washington said it's impossible to rightly govern without God and the Bible.

John Adams the constitution is for a moral and upright people totally inadequate for the governing of any other. John Witherspoon said if you don't love God, you don't love your country. It's called U.S. history 101.

John Adams,  the second President of these United States,  was a Unitarian.

And President Adams was a devout Unitarian, which is a non-trinitarian Protestant denomination during the Colonial era.  (non-trinitarian for those who don't know means John Adams  did not believe in the notion that Christ was God incarnate on earth).

Unitarianism is the  closest Protestant sect to Judaism.

It's called U.S.  History sophomore year college.

11/21 Same-Sex Marriage?

Quote From: christyho

I"m sorry but before we know it we will be like Massachusetts not having any say about whether our young children have gay information shoved down their throats without parents having any say in the matter.  Maybe not at first but it all evolves.  What happened to majority rules?  Not only did religious groups vote YES but so did many ethnic groups vote YES and people need to recognize that the majority just aren't ready for this now and to LET IT GO!!!!!  With something like this it just ends up going to the next level and it goes beyond boundries that shouldn't be crossed.  What if we did this with our Presidency and started protesting because the minority are unhappy.  The nation would be in utter chaos!!!

Chris

I don't understand what people are so afraid of by educating the children. They SHOULD be made aware of the fact that not everyone is a heterosexual!!!  You shouldn't lie to your kids by sheltering them from reality.  If you are afraid your child/children wil be gay/lesbian by being educated about it, you need to do a LOT more research!!!

If you are a religious person, you should keep in mind that Jesus taught us to not judge others....live and let live and let them be judged in heaven.

I am not gay or lesbian but I am FOR gay marriage because marriage is about LOVE, NOT gender!

11/21 Same-Sex Marriage?

Quote From: tosatel

John Adams did not believe in God.   I live ten minutes from his birthplace I know Adams and his son's J Q Adams' biographies like the back of my hand.   You people in the center of the country don't get to rewrite 'morality' because of your own fear of sex.

Did you read McCullough's book?  The definitions of "moral and upright" had to do with honor in that day hardly homoesexuality.

Jefferson was a Deist.

Nice try..

The two of you evidentally need a course in Morality 101.....respect and equal rights for ALL humans...not just heterosexuals!

And since when do you think civil rights are not for gays and lesbians....last time I looked at anyone I knew was gay or lesbian, they were still human.

You need to be educated on the topic.  In the year 2008 we should not be STILL fighting for equal rights for ALL!!!  It sickens me to think there are narrow-minded bigots still existing in this world.  If you don't like gays and lesbians, that's fine, but you should not be taking away their rights and freedoms.

I am not gay or lesbian but I am for equal rights and equal treatment!

"Hate the sin, love the sinner" and discriminate anyway.....not in my religion!  Where do you get this crap...make it up or is your religion really teaching you discrimination and ignorance?

So there is only one kind of love in your world......then you should move onto another universe!  Do I agree with polygamy and harems...no, but it is not up to me to say who someone else should love.  I should not tell them who to love and who to be committed to and neither should you!  No one is asking you to be gay or lesbian.  No one is asking  you to make a life-long committment to anyone.  But no one is telling you that you're not allowed to do it either!  And, by the way, it is about love and two people loving each other.

There was a time when whites couldn't marry blacks because there were too many people worried about what everyone else was doing.  If you don't like it, that's fine....but stop holding others back from moving forward with their lives and relationships.

This is about a free for all....you're right.....FREEDOM FOR ALL not just heterosexuals!!!

11/21 Same-Sex Marriage?

Quote From: kustomlady

"Sexual promiscuity, particularly random sex with strangers, is high for both sexes of

homosexuals, and especially for male homosexuals. The National Health and Social Life

Survey (NHSLS) found that the mean number of lifetime partners since the age of 18 for men

who never had same-gender sex was 15.7, but for men who ever had same sex partners it was

44.3, a rate three times as high. For women who never had same-gender sex, the number was

4.9, but for women who ever had same-gender sex, it was 19.7, more than four times as high

(Laumann, et al., 1994, Table 8.4, p. 315)...

If homosexual relationships are fulfilling, why are there so many changes in partners?

People who are at peace with themselves do not seek random sex with strangers. They do

not engage in dangerous, death-dealing behavior" Dr. Laura A. Haynes, Psychologist

"No scientifically accepted, replicable studies presently exist that clearly demonstrate that homosexuality is genetic.  Studies do exist, however, showing that homosexuals who desire to change can do so"

Looking for help to leave homosexuality?  Looking for help relating to a friend or family member who identifies as homosexual?  Find a ministry, read some real life stories...

http://www.exodus-international.org/

Freedom is possible!

Of course homosexuals wanting to change can do so....on the outside!  They are who they are and why are there people to anxious to change them and not let them be themselves and who they truly are.

If a heterosexual wanted to change, they could also, but they too would be lying to themselves and others.

You're also right when you say "Freedom is possible".  Narrow-minded individuals just need to realize that EVERYONE deserves freedom from discrimination.  ALL people deserve equal rights!!!

Stuff happens when you attend Bob Jones U. ;)
And when I attended university, I always found the religion and ecclesiastical scholars to be among the dumbest and most gullible.
