Do you have someone in your life who makes the holidays more of a headache than a festive, joyful time? Jennifer says her mother, Judy, otherwise known as Grandma Claus, goes way overboard when it comes to Christmas. She says her mother decorates every square inch of her house with her estimated 1,200 snowmen, 1,000 Santas and angels, and tens of thousands of lights! Judy’s Christmas spirit takes up so much space, she can’t even eat at her dining room table. Jennifer says her mother gives so many gifts to her three daughters, that it takes them an overwhelming two hours to open them all -- and at least 75 percent of the gifts end up in the trash or donated to charity. Don’t miss what makes Grandma Claus’ gifts so … special. Then, Dr. Phil’s next guest, also named Judy, is a self-proclaimed Scrooge who hates Christmas and refuses to celebrate it at all. She says the holiday is nothing but greediness and commercialism. Can Dr. Phil break through her "bah humbug"? Plus, don't miss some exclusive backstage moments from Dr. Phil and Robin’s fifth annual Christmas in Washington concert, which airs December 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on TNT. Join the discussion.

Negativity wearing me down

All I hear about Christmas these days is how hectic everything is, how stressed people are and how our bodies and minds suffer because of it. Geez, no wonder so many people commit suicide during the holidays! All this negativity is what really wears me down this time of year. My mother has told me she really enjoys the holidays and doesn't get stressed about it. I guess she's either the strangest person in the world or she's not very honest...

Cats should NEVER be outide unsupervised

Quote From: derevna33

They need to be outside.  Cats that have to quarrel over territory do not belong indoors.  It disrupts your own lives too much.
It is way to dangerous.  Any animal shelter will tell you this.  Cats kept outdoors have a lifespam that is usually at least 10 years shorter than those kept indoors.

By the way Judy on the show is completely correct.  All the holidays these days are about anymore is greed and commercialism.   Look at all the people who have families saying there holidays are ruined because they can't afford material things for them.  Look at how early the advertising starts.  Look at how the ads and society tries to make very nice people who don't want to spend money that will be used for there own demise by the criminal corporations and how society tries to villify them.  In fact, it has gotten so bad this year a Walmart employee was actually trampled to death by the materialistic holiday crowd.   If you want to save money this bad make things for people for the holidays or have a no gift pact, don't kill another human being.

No Hope, No Christmas for the Thomas Family!!

We are in need of a financial and miracle blessing from God.

We just moved here to Mt. Vernon and we have no money, I lost my job and my husband is the only one working now.  We have no money or anything to give our children for Christmas.  They need beds and clothes, shoes and coats.  I would like to buy them a Wii and a PlayStation2 like they wanted and their own T. V.; but its impossible when you don't have any money.

Dr. Phil me and my husband watch your show every day on this little T.V. that you have to sitt real close to see past the static and fuzz.  I wish I could get my family everything they desire and need this year for Christmas and that would make me happy just seeing them happy.  My son just had a birthday on the 15th of this month and I felt so bad because he was expecting a present and he had nothing. That look of disappointment hurt me so bad and I was watching you give away stuff for Christmas yesterday and I cried because I wish I could give my chilredn and husband memorable gifts, but I can't, because we're broke!!!

I'm in desperate need of a Blessing and a Miracle, I don't care if they are Wal-Mart Gift cards I need some hope for them this year.

Thanks for listening,

A mother and wife, Maria Thomas

wish i could be mr. christmas

I watched your chow today Dr. Phil.  I was home in the day for a change.  The part where u said your wife loves Christmas got me thinking.  I would love a year where we could overly decorate or buy a few nice gifts but that year never seems to come.  Maybe some year.  My wife is disabled and as luck would have it seems to always need a surgery or something at te holidays that makes money tight.  We always joke and keep faith and get by but its hard.  This year is even harder because I'm in the car business and the economy is down and now my wife is off with surgery.  It bothers me I can't get my kids or grandkids or even my wife a nice Christmas but we will get by.  This year for Christmas I want most just to hear from my son in Iraq, thats all I need.  My wife works with lower income familiys and we always try to do something nice for them but this year I don't have the money.  I was able to ask others for donations of coats and give those to some of the kids she serves, so we still tried to do what we could.  I'm not complaining because reality even if I were a millionaire I'd probably help others and still cur back on Christmas, I'm just saying I am very Christmasy and wish some year I could afford to indulge even a little.  I would love to get my grandchildren (whom I help raise) a special Chirstmas but not this year..  Oh we will squeak by and theyll never know but maybe next year.  After all at least we have family.  Enjoy your holidays and familiy Dr.. Phil and may god bless you.

Huge Holiday headaches

If this "Grandma Claus" feels like she HAS to spend all of this money on useless and ridiculous gifts...why doesn't she just use that money to buy toys for "Toys for Tots"...or donate the money to the food banks...or to the Red Cross....or the animal shelters that rely on donations......at least it would go to a good cause....and she can still spend all the money she wants to spend....and her family would probably be very proud of her besides.....I just think it is a waste of money that could be much better spent....!!

12/17 Huge Holiday Headaches

I totally get what the lady who doesn't like Christmas is saying.  She is not being a meanie or a Scrooge.   Like me, she sees how Christmas just seems to bring out the worst in people who have lost track of the true meaning of Christmas and are only focusing on gifts and how many people they have to trample to get them on sale.  Gift-giving is  fine, IF it's done with love and the right spirt of Christmas.

But what really surprised me is Dr. Phil's indifferent tone when  he very briefly mentioned the man in New York who was trampled to death by a bunch of savages!!!!!  It doesn't matter if there was intent or not in this horrible accident.  It was entirely preventable, which I think is more important that intent!!!!   This accident should have inspired Dr. Phil to talk to his fans about proper behavior when in a crowd and how these people had acted like savages JUST to get merchandise on sale!!  Even if these people didn't mean for it to happen, they should have known better than to push and shove.  This was inexcusable!!

I truly love Dr. Phil, but I am just in shock at how indifferent he sounded when he said it was probably an accident.  Wreckless behavior  is only asking for trouble.  Forget intent.  That's such a lawyerly answer!
