Recently, the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8, a controversial measure banning same-sex marriage passed by voters in November 2008. The current ruling states that the ban is constitutional, but the state's 18,000 existing same-sex marriages will stand. Dr. Phil and his panel of distinguished guests continue their discussion of this controversial topic. Joining the debate are discrimination attorney Gloria Allred, president of the Human Rights Campaign Joe Solmonese, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, Pastor Jim Garlow, president of National Organization of Marriage Maggie Gallagher and co-campaign manager for the Yes on 8 Campaign Jeff Flint. The conversation gets heated as Dr. Phil takes comments and questions from his audience, which is evenly divided over the issue that has many Californians protesting in the streets. Your God is Not Mine

Quote From: sblady3291

I was watching one of your promos today and heard a man say"I was born this wasgay and I consider it a gift from God"

I feel so sad for this man, He has been so misled by the sweet words from Satan that tickle our ears  hereon earth and makes us believe we will be happy. All that we own , posess will burn in this Earth. There has never been a u-haul truck behind a hearse.

I don not hate gay people. I believe they are decieved and that makes me sad. God's will is perfect and gayness just isn't part of God's perfrct plan,,I will pray for all the people in the world that need The Lord in their lives,,

That is where you are confused though. No matter what you believe, your beliefs have no right to trump mine. The United States was founded on the seperation of Church and State and many of the founding fathers of the United States were atheist. It is usualy at this time that religious nuts will point to the dollar and say...it says one Nation Under God, but that was a new adition. It was not originaly on the bill. As far as traditional marriage...do you really know what traditional marriage is. No one lives that way anymore, and I'm glad.

Remember Sodom and Gomorrah

GOD will not be mocked...it is for that reason HE destroyed an entire city when the people chose to go against HIS design.  HE created male and female to honor and worship HIM.  To have anything other than MALE and FEMALE "marry" in HIS name is blasphamy and for anyone to be BOLD enough to do that is to be pitied!  Oprah and Dr. Phil are not GOD...Oprah has strayed so far from HIM and has taken so many with her until it is pitiful.  I pray for this nation because it is becoming more and more wicked and unfortunately the fate will be the same...fire and brimstone!

Just curious what a Doctors views on the topic would be.

I am not 100% devoted to either side. I am just curious about the physical aspects of a gay male marriage? It seems to me that if we got down to the basics and took all of our "knowledge" out of the situation, our bodies were made to fit together.

Another thing I would like to consider , if divorce was not a possibility but you were bound to that person for the rest of your life,at least legally , would it really make that big of a difference who we allowed to marry.

It seems to me that we have already devauled the honor and committment of marriage in the way that we allow it to be disposed of so freely.

As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

What is wrong with people?

I just can't believe this issue is still even being argued.  Dr. Phil, I would think that you would have the courage to state that homosexuality is not a sin without fear of losing your religious fan base.  How can you even say that people need to be informed so that they can make the right choice on this issue?  There should be no decision to make, people deserve the same rights whether they are straight, gay or bigender.  When they are not given those rights, it is discrimination.  God's word should not be an excuse to discriminate against anyone!

the constitution

I want to hear one argument against gay marriage that's not based in religion. Separation of church and state is in the constitution and marriage has been established as a fundamental right;  therefore banning gay marriage is unconstitutional.

I would like to see how Christians would react to laws based on other, non-christian religions. Separation of church and state would suddenly become very important.

Seperation of Church and State

Quote From: shelly_80

I'm so glad to see my fellow Christian's sharing their beliefs.  I know this is going to be VERY contraversial issue because homosexuals believe they are "legally" entitled to the same rights as us.  The Bill of Rights does state that they are entitled to live whatever life they desire, as are we.  However, when considering it from a religious point of view or God's point of view, it is absolutely, positively unacceptable and blatantly sinful.  Unfortunately, the United States feels a need to acommidate "everyone's" prefrances even though it is plain to see opposing sides will be offended.  That is the day and age we live in now.
Excuse me? Have you heard of spearation of Church and State? What makes your beliefs more important than mine. The United States was founded on seperation of church and State. I know you says, what about the saying...one nation under God, that was a new addition to please...you the Christian Majority. Luckily for myself, Christians are quickly losing their strangle hold on this Nation. I assume that you then think Christians should have superiority over all other faiths as well. Then even your own religion is split. More and more of your own Christian brother and Sisters are seeing the truth behind equality. What do you say about them?

Thank You

Quote From: angeladeal

watching your show today it is a strong reminder at how viscous our world can be.  you see i am a christian and i support gay marriage; here is why

if christians truly believe the bible god says only he can ORDAIN a marriage therefore what difference does the piece of paper make to anyone.  there is surely quite a few heterosexual marriage's he doesn't ordain.

most important is that if as christians we remember that jesus christ died on a cross for our sins and even after that did not demand that we follow him or serve him.  JESUS gave us CHOICE. JESUS  gave us compassion and tolerance.  MAYBE WE SHOULD TRY AND REALLY FOLLOW HIS LEAD1

Thank You for supporting my right to marry. I wish there were more Christians like yourself.

What makes you think you have the right to dictate to people how they live their life? I am always curious what thought process leads to feeling justified in oppressing others. I have never felt I could inflict my views  on anyone.

Dr. Phil's Opinion-Is it a Choice?

Like someone else said, the big question comes down to if being gay is a choice? Scientist say it is not a choice. For the example even look here on this site. Doctor Phil says it is not a choice. If it is not a choice, then how can you descriminate against people for something they havn't choosen?

05/29 Same-Sex Marriage Reaction

Quote From: badelk

I am a born again Christain. I do not agree with same sex marriage for it is not what God stands for. I have a couple gay friends as well. I too am kind and respectful to them but does not mean I agree with their decisions of partnership. God did create us all and loves us all but does not mean He is not saddened by all our decisions. He gave us the choice of free will and therefore we are accountable for the choices we make. Homosexuality is an abomination to him. He created man in the beginning as it says in Genesis 1:26-27 it says He created man in the likeness of His image, He created  male and female. He then said unto to them, " Be fruitful and multiply." How can we multipy if there is not a man and woman involved. If He had wanted a marriaged union to be different he would have created us to have done so.

In Mark 10: 6-9 it says, But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his fahter and mother and cleave to his wife. And they twain shall be one flesh so then they are no more twain but one flesh. I do not be mean or treat my gay aquaintances any different than other people but when they ask me questions on my beliefs on homosexuality I give them my honest opinion, just like I would on any other subject any other person might ask me on what I believe as a christian. In 1 Corinthians 11: 7-12 says as man is of the image and glory of God, the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not ot the woman, but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman but the woman for the man. Neither is the man without the woman nor the woman without the man in the Lord. That means that God did not create a man for a man, or  woman for a woman but a woman for the man. Thats why I believe its not Gods ways to have same sex marriage.

Man wrote the bible, it's not really the word of God - it's a work of fiction.
Aside from that, you're assuming that gay people choose to be gay..
and that's actually not true.. they were born that way. Just like some
people were born with different color skin. That makes this whole
thing a case of discrimination and infringement on basic human
rights. No matter how much you quote the bible.. sad.. so sad
