There is more to the Netherlands than......

Quote From: shacarri

Is there a message that says that? I sure hope there is NOT a message on this board that says what you quoted in parenthesis. I have not read them all,but I would hope a message that says that  would be edited or deleted. That is a rotten and untrue insult and NO Americans that I know of feel that way about them. NOT AT ALL..........
I've read it was said by Natalee's mother on the show.
I'm happy to read that you agree that you can't generalise about a whole country like that.
It is wrong and uncalled for.

The Disappearance of Natalee

Quote From: cbmdej

It has also been stated on this board that the Dutch legal system cannot be trusted because of the situation with slave trade in the past. Nobody objected to that, saying how riddiculous it is to judge a legal system now on something that happened then.

So if that was a valid argument, then so is this one.

The release of four very guilty looking and sounding men by the Aruban authorities has very little to do with the Dutch slave trade in the past. I also imagine it has very little to do with the Dutch people themselves. I think it has to do with a legal system that was somehow corrupted when investigating this particular case. All the these other issues are simply a smokescreen to cover up a cover up. How these men could have possibly been released is beyond my comprehension. This includes Joran van der Sloot, his father, and the two Kalpoe brothers.

What about SEARCH DOGS?

If they don't have too much crime in Aruba, then they probably don't have good crime solving equipment and stuff.  How about if we lend them some of our well trained American SEARCH DOGS to cover the island and see what they can find?

09/15 The Disappearance of Natalee

I would like to know how many of you have ever been to Aruba, or out of the country. I have been to Aruba many times, just got back a week ago and am going for 6 more between Nov.-March. Aruba is one of the safest islands which is why I go there. I have been to Mexico, Jamaica, Freeport in the Bahamas, Costa Rica, and Panama and was petrified to walk alone during the day, never mind night. I have also been to Antigua, Puerto Rico, and Barbados, and would never walk alone at night at either of those places. In Aruba I always walk alone at night because it is SAFE! I should mention I am an early 40's woman. The whole island of Aruba should not take the fall for something that happened in which 3-4 people may or may not be involved. Take a look at this website: http://travel.state.gov/family/family_issues/death/death_594.html and Aruba does not even make the list. What about all the people missing in Mexico and Jamaica where the police did not help at all. All Aruban government employees had a half day of work, then the second half was spent looking for Natalee. This was all Aruban Government employees. This was in the beginning of all of this. Beth may have caused issues when she immediately started being the judge, jury and executioner for the three boys and Joran's father. She went immediately to the Van der Sloot home and accused him within hours of getting off the plane. She, herself, may have interfered with the investigation, and also clued Joran in that he was a suspect, which would have given him time to change his story or hide the body, this if he really is guilty. Beth is trying to run the show and if someone does not agree with her, she resents it. As someone else said, who would let an 18 year old go on a trip which was VERY poorly supervised and was not school sponsored? There were no bed checks, not meeting times or areas while on the trip. Supposedly the "chaperone's" were only there in case of illness. Why did only one "chaparone" stay when the finally figured out she was missing about 9-10 hours later? Why did it take so long to figure out she was missing? Because there really were no REAL chaperone's, they were just adults on the trip who could be called in if needed. Why are none of the other kids from the school talking? Initially they were and they have changed their stories from Natalee yelling out the Kalpoe car window "Woo Aruba!" to some saying they begged her not to get in the car, and now they say they did not see her get in the car. Now Beth says that she knows for a fact that her daughter thought the car was a taxi. How could she know that? The kids initially said she was not drinking, now they say she was. At this point, Beth will do anything to keep the story in the news. What ever happened to the CT honeymooner that is missing? You never hear anything about that anymore. Beth needs to let things take their course and let the police do their job.

The Disappearance of Natalee

Quote From: visser

No, i am just saying that the serious insults to  the people of Holland ("a country of whores and drugs addicts") is an indication of the mental mind of (some) Americans.
Name calling of any kind is basically a reflection of the mind of the person saying it. I am certain you can see the futility of taking one angry comment as a reflection of the American people as a whole. I do think, however, I feel that something went completely and terribly wrong that night that Natalee disappeared and that the last people seen with her are responsible. That they have not come up with an adequate explanation of where Natalee is....tells me that to tell us where she is would land them in jail for life. Consequently, it is an insult to my intelligence as a human being that lies are more important to Aruban authorities than the truth, cover up is more important to Aruban authorities than the truth, and protecting the people most likely to have caused Natalee's disappearance is more important to Aruban authorities than the truth of where is Natalee Holloway. That a father would enable his son to escape responsibility for the disappearance of another person by using his authority and social status and education....is the most horrendous part of this very sad story.

09/15 The Disappearance of Natalee

Quote From: jbalke

Beth and Natalee Holloway (and their family) are just as much victims of Hurricane Katrina as the people of the Gulf Coast, especially those who lost family members to violence there. If the "happy island" of Aruba thinks that Americans have not noticed that as soon as the world's media was focused elsewhere, that they released these slimeballs from custody, they can just go "check their foot" as my father in law used to say. We know exactly what they've been up to all along-a GIANT COVERUP! Anyone, American or otherwise, who goes there, knowing what happened in this case, is not only falling for this crap, but actually making the statement that it was perfectly okay for Aruban authorities to treat a tourist this way. Wise up, folks! They only want your MONEY. They don't give a damn about YOU.  There are just too many other equally nice or better islands to vacation on. WHO NEEDS ARUBA and THEIR INCOMPENT POLICE DEPARTMENT and their nasty attitude.
Beth, Jug and the rest of Natalee's family and friends, God be with you. You will be in our hearts and prayers until you find your answers.

By the way...if you watch the news, Joran's time was up and needed to either get out of jail or be charged. It just happened to coincide with the hurricane . It was common knowledge by those who follow it, that the date was coming (9/4) and a decision had to be made. You must not have been watching all the shows that kept saying it. Try to get all the transcripts of the 5+ shows nightly that aired the story since her disappearance. Can't wait to return to my home away from home - Aruba - in Nov.

Thank God for Dr Phil

I am so relieved and thankful that Dr. Phil is getting involved in solving this horrible tragedy. If anyone can, he can and will. Beth and her family would also benefit from any counseling he can give them to help them heal as a family, no matter what the outcome is. I have wept so many times

for this family I don't know but ache for. I am amazed at the accomplishments natallee made in her life and how much effort and discipline that had to take. And for all that obviously good parenting and direction, for all the love and guidance that family had to have provided for her to do that, for her to have such a wonderful future just waiting to be grabbed, and have that snatched away under the circumstances it appears to have been, is just heartwrenching.  I began praying for the first time in years when this case first came on the news. It hit me that hard. And ive been praying ever since.

I know there are many tragedies in our world all the time, but this one is more than any of us mothers can live with.  That is why we MUST do all we can to keep the pressure on Aruba and the media to keep this story alive until the answers are found and those who are responsible are put away.  I am just so very thankful to Dr. Phil. I wish he would run for president. Now HE'D get things done! Just as I know he will with the Holloway-Twitty family.  I live in birmingham and the Wall that has been erected for her with messages from people all over the country brings tears to your eyes.

Please, everyone, write the letters and do whatever you can to demand answers and justice, and

finally, peace. It does not matter how nice and friendly the island has been for other tourists. What matters is what happened to Natalee has been covered up and those responsible have been protected from facing the consequences.  Dr. Phil is absolutely right that what will get their attention is lack of tourism because that is how they survive.

I agree 100%

Quote From: aunt2ten

Finally, someone who can actually help the Hollaway family!  My heart is breaking over  this case and I am writing all the people you listed in Aruba. I will never visit Aruba either, I can tell you that.

It burns me that the Aruban govt lets these pigs free, knowing full well that they are at least guilty of having her drugged and then raped.  I dont know how Beth holds up in all of this, because I feel like flying down there and giving them hell!   I feel a lot better knowing Dr Phil is on the case.

YOU ARE THE BEST DR PHIL!  GOD Bless you!

(((hugs for the Hollaway family) I pray you get the answers you need and those involved in her dissapearance are brought to Justice..

I feel better too knowing Dr Phil is getting involved. I

wish he would run for President.

You haven't been following the story very well. Well trained American search dogs were brought to the island. By the Equ search team. They brought their own dogs and some other dogs were flown in. They did not find anything. The Eque search team searched the entire island for over two weeks with all kinds of special equipment and they did not find a thing.

Apologies

Quote From: alakazam

On behalf of all Americans, willing or not, I'd like to apologise to the Aruban and Dutch peoples for the poor and ignorant behavior of all the Americans who have been so critical over this Holloway nonsense and who are in favor of boycotting tourism to the island.   Try to understand that American opinion is governed first by our manipulative and myopic media and secondly by emotional outbursts.  Logic and the facts do not even figure into the thinking of the majority of American opinions.  The war in Iraq is a perfect example, not to mention Kobe Bryant, Lacy Peterson, and OJ Simpson.    I well know that America is 10 times more dangerous than Aruba, The Netherlands, or most any other country in the world.  Foreign tourists have been warned for years about the scams, murders, kidnappings, child abductions, car jackings, and serial killers being rampant in this country.  And since Bush has decided he has the ability and God-given right to randomly invade whatever country strikes his fancy, we're regarded as being even more deranged.   I lived in The Netherlands for almost 10 years and it was probably the most enjoyable time of my life, mostly because I never felt so safe.  Cops were everywhere and there is comparitively little crime.  There's no homeless, no unemployed, and the Dutch people are enjoy living their life instead of trying to screw everyone else.  I can only hope that maybe in 100 years, America will be as advanced.   Americans forget that the Dutch helped found this country (New Amsterdam), that the Pilgrim fathers came from Leiden, and The Netherlands was one of the first countries to officially recognize the new United States after the Revolutionary War.  I'm sure the people of New Orleans could use the assistance of the world's experts at levee building and living below sea level, but after all the insults, I'd be surprised if they'd lift a finger.   We in America are a young country, just like a young person, have a chip on our shoulder for no reason, are still stumbling around trying to act mature, yet unable and unwilling to learn from older and wiser persons, instead bullying everyone and repeating the mistakes of history.  And what's worse, due to our geography, we're a kid who's been given a big gun that he doesn't know what to do with, so we're not taking any advice from anybody 'cause we know best. (Any parents heard this before?)    I know there will be a lot of stupid and angry replies to this from ignorant Americans ("keep your opinion to yourself", "why don't I just leave if I don't like it", etc.) and you can just add those to the list of examples of why Americans simply can't deal effectively with the truth or with the outside world.   So, try to forgive those who don't understand and don't know any better. And to all Americans, it's time to wake up and understand how poorly this country is regarded around the world.  Stop perpetuating the stereotype.

You are absolutely right.

Stop the stereotyping of Americans as idiotic triggerhappy bullies.

Having traveled the world you will find that the US is viewed very lacking of manners and common sense. It has the reputation of being the one telling others they have a splinter in their eye while having a 2X4 in both our own eyes.

There are many nice and beautiful things about our beloved country, unfortunately we do not seem to be able to get that message out there.

People that have visited the US are mostly pleasantly surprised in general.

However the idiotic outcries of some americans to the world around us have made us in large parts of the world the most hated nation.

STOP this irrational indecent behaviour.

Put your energy into positive things, fighting racism and poverty in our own nation for example.
