1 more yellow ribbon

September 11th is a GOOD DAY to establish a message board to discuss ways we can SUPPORT OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS in the military.

This forum is established for soldiers, their families other compassionate and concerned individuals for both mutual support and to talk about real things folks can do to help.

Will you please join us?

Most Americans agree to support OUR TROOPS. That’s wonderful. But what does hat mean? OUR TROOPS are individuals... every soldier is someone’s son or daughter. As we tie our yellow ribbons, let’s attach names to the sons and daughters collectively know as OUR TROOPS.

FAMILIES are also caught up in the war.

THIS WAR has hit our home. Our son Mike is in the desert. Until he returns safely the light on our patio shines day and night on a large AMERICAN FLAG tied with a YELLOW ribbon. We call it MIKE’S LIGHT. Please light a lamp in your window or keep a porch light on, fly the flag proudly, and tie a yellow ribbon for those in harms way. Post a picture of your tribute here.

What else can we do to support those who are sacrificing because of the war? Everyone can do SOMETHING.

Who do you know that is in-harms-way? Tell us about them. We can do more to support our loved ones. We can make our voice heard here and make their voices heard as well.

When I asked our son what I could do for him, he said, “You speak for me!” Mike said I should tell people that each man and woman in the military has a job to do. They need the support of the American people to get the job done and come home!

Mike’s Mom .

By the way kclemente --What is your husband’s name? And you and your girls? We like to think of “OUR TROOPS” as individuals --our sons and daughters!

The strangest thing just happened. I was checking back on a previous comment I had written in the Shared Diaries and there was a name I thought I recognized. Sure enough, it was you! Since it looks as if you are new to these boards, I think that is very strange. Actually, I checked back and I only found that diary post and the one on this board!

Anyway, I dont know why I bumped into you like that --but I do know it shook-my-tree and I got right over here to reply to you. Are you OK? Hope we can get to know one another and that you will find support here.

I am usually on-line (on drphil.com --somewhere!) everyday, at least for a little while. Most evenings I spend time to catch-up. One of the first things I do is check here for new posts. I do a lot of visiting around the boards and sometimes I dont get back here right away. I do try to do things in priority order. Sometimes I get behind.

Just so you (and other folks here) know, there is an e-mail address in my profile, Click on my Username blue_white to the left of the post. You will not find an e-mail address in my red_white profile however.

Soooooooooooooo! Welcome! we are very glad you posted on this board. Thanks you so much for telling your story. You are right about military family life. Its rough! We need to get that message out and support our military families in anyway we can. Thats what this is all about. We are just beginning here. Who knows what 2006 will bring?

If each of the folks who post here would just tell one more person about this board, we could begin to grow. More people means: more stories; more ideas; more support... *1 MORE YELLOW RIBBON* --GET IT???

Hope to see you again soon. I will be looking for you!

When I wrote, “Hope to see you again soon.” I didn’t dream it would be THAT soon! It seems as though you may have been at the hospital as I posted the words: “Anyway, I don’t know why I “bumped into you” like that --but I do know it shook-my-tree and I got right over here to reply to you. Are you OK?” That is quite a coincidence! Or is it? It’s a small world really and I think folks are connected in ways we know nothing about!!!

And are you OK??? I’m so glad the accident wasn’t more serious! You take it easy! Those muscle relaxes can make you feel a lot better but they make some folks actually feel a little “drunk!” Is there someone who can help you with the girls? You wrote that Hector is in the states, but is he stationed there where you are?

Thanks for letting us know what happened and for “introducing” your family. Try to relax and don’t worry about posting until you are up to it. We will all be here. TAKE CARE and BE SAFE!

i am ok but we just don't have a car now.  my husbands car had the transmission go out in OCT and we were waiting for tax time to come around to fix it so i am not sure what i am going to do.  the other persons insurance company keepos putting us off and will not even give us a rental car.  they keep telling us to pay out of our pockets and then if they are liable then they will reimburse us but we don't have the money to do that.  in  fact, the old lady that hit us told her insurance company that i swerved over 3 lanes of traffic and hit her while she was sitting in the turn lane.  she denies that the accident occured where it did.  i think that she probably should not be driving.  i really wanted this to be a civil thing but i am losing my patience and think that i might get a lawyer.  her insurance company told me that pretty much they didn't care that my daughter and i were hurt because they know that the military hospital will fix us for free.  i am beyond frusterated.  i can't believe that the lady is lieing like that.  she made a left turn into traffic and hit me and really screwed up my car and she could care less. i am not the type to try to take someone for a ride but i think that is why she is lieing.  because she thinks that i am so nice or nieve that she can get away with it.  my car is a 2005 chevy uplander and i love my van.  i am like a walking advertisement for it.  i am so upset that it has been wrecked already.  i have never been in an accident before.  i am an extremely carefuul driver .  i used to be military police.  i have seen accidents from careless driving so i always make sure i drive safe, plus i have 3 babies, i would never put them in danger. well, i am so stressed out so i am gonna go. thanks for listening

Hello again Kristina

So glad you are OK, but I’m sorry about your car and the insurance problems. Surely in just a little time things will get worked out and you and your family can start getting back to regular everyday problems instead of this crisis stuff!

I guess it’s times like these that make us thankful for little annoyances like running out of milk or bread! There is always something to deal with in life. Problems never really go completely away. Time just changes things! Sort of like MUSICAL CHAIRS. However, with problems and the trials of life we don’t get much of a chance to choose. We can choose how we are going to react to things though! I like to think we can make it through almost anything by sheer force of will. Anyway, like I said before, what choice do we have? Sometimes we just have to --Like the old saying goes--GRIN AND BARE IT!

Maybe we can get to know a little more about you and your family. Where is Hector stationed and where do you live? Did you say you are in the Army Active Reserve? Is that full time right now or week-end duty? I don’t know much about the Reserves but I do know that many Reservists are involved in the War.

It’s very late here in the Eastern Time Zone and I have been busy but I didn’t want to let another day pass without replying to you. Greetings to your family. Take care and STAY SAFE!

*One More Yellow Ribbon* FOLKS --Greetings to all and WELCOME new folks! We are glad you are here! Please read-back and get aquainted

I won’t be posting tomorrow and maybe not until Thursday late. Mike’s wife Charmen, (T.Sgt.) will be helping to process out Airmen to the war zone late into the night tomorrow. Good News! FOR US, that means Mike will be home soon --a few weeks! (they rotate several times a year.) Bad News! Charmen MAY be deployed herself on the next rotation! Good news! Grandma & Grandpa “Blue” are in place to help with the boys: Hunter-4 and Cade-2.

Take Care! and as Mike says, BE SAFE

HI TO YOU, KATHY/"MIKE'S MUM"...

Quote From: red_white

Thanks for your good wishes. Im doing well. Able to be at the computer for longer now but still get some eye strain. We will have the other eye done after the doctor sees how this surgery turned out. It was actually not bad experience at all! My pressure was down 5 points in the first week!

Keep on top of your eye situation! I know you will. Learn as much as you can! Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness and usually it doesnt have to happen.

My pressures were about normal (Low Pressure Glaucoma) when considerable nerve damage was first found 5 years ago. They look for cupping. On a scale of 1-to-10 my left is 8 and right is 71/2. They did this surgery because is best to keep the pressures as low as possible. (Ex: Picture a less inflated balloon --not as likely to POP!)

Speaking of Pop, How are Papa Mark and baby girl Stephanie doing? Hope you are having a Happy Holiday! Christmas is SUMMER! I cant imagine what thats like. Does Santa SURF-IN to town? do you dream of a sand-BROWN Christmas and build sandcastle snowmen at the beach?

DOWN UNDER... You guys should call it UPSIDE DOWN!!! LOL

Talk to you soon!
Kathy (aka) Mikes Mum

Sorry it's taken me sooooo long to write back to you, but we only just got back from being up at my parents place for Christmas and New Year. We were up thre from the 22nd of Dec till the day before yesterday. Yes, we did have a great time up at Mum and Dad's and Santa was very good to us all.

I guess you could say that it would be funny to see a Santa Surfing!! As to dreaming about a sand-brown Christmas, well just thinking about that I've ended up with sand in my eyes, LOL!! Never thought of making a Sand-snowman will have to give that one a try!! LOL!!

You were saying that it's not too much longer now and Mike will be home, I will cross my fingers and hope that the next few weeks go very fast for you and Mike, but it's not good about Mike's wife, I hope that she will not have to go over there this time. If she has to go then hopefully it will be next rotaction.

Well I hope that 2006 will be a Happy, healthy and safe one for all of your family and till next time please TAKE CARE, LOVE KELLY.

Thanks for the reply. I hope you had a nice Holiday with your parents. What kind of things do you do there for Christmas and New Year? Sorry about that sand instead of snow thing. It’s just hard to think of reindeer on the beach and “Chestnuts roasting on an open...” (“barb-bi”) fire!

Our Holiday was quiet. Were over at the house with Charmen and the boys by 8 a.m. to open gifts. There were entirely too many gifts for everyone. I was NOT a very good girl this year, but I guess Santa didn’t get the message!

Mike called. His time is 8 hours ahead. The troop had PRIME RIB AND all the trimmings. That’s what we had too! He said he spent part of the day with the little kids in the area. He gave them some candy some of the cookies I had baked and sent in his Holiday package. I make all sizes of gingerbread boys and girls, even some babies with “diaper” icing! What a weird thought --some little kid in Iraq with my tiny gingerbread babies!

We spent New Years Eve with Charmen and the boys at Monica and JAY’s new home. Rhonda and JAMIE were there too. Joy and MICK, Mike’s other very close friends couldn’t get to the party. Mike was missed by all!

NOW JAY, JAMIE AND MICK ARE MISSED BY ALL! They left for Iraq on January 3rd as part of the next “rotation” of Airmen to Kirkuk! We will miss them.

Good News --Mike will be home later this month after debriefing etc. and we are thankful. UNCERTAIN THOUGH STILL IF CHARMEN will have to go when J J & M return from their rotation.

So our porch light will soon shine on THREE MORE YELLOW RIBBONS which will proudly hang with our flag! And 3 more families begin the wait.

I am thankful to this place just to write to other folks who know what it’s like to have a loved ones in the military. When Mike returns I hope to have some added time and energy to spread news of this support message board out to others on drphil.com.

Thank you Kelly for your faithfulness to posting here. I appreciate hearing from you. Here’s hoping others will find support here too!
