1 more yellow ribbon

September 11th is a GOOD DAY to establish a message board to discuss ways we can SUPPORT OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS in the military.

This forum is established for soldiers, their families other compassionate and concerned individuals for both mutual support and to talk about real things folks can do to help.

Will you please join us?

Most Americans agree to support OUR TROOPS. That’s wonderful. But what does hat mean? OUR TROOPS are individuals... every soldier is someone’s son or daughter. As we tie our yellow ribbons, let’s attach names to the sons and daughters collectively know as OUR TROOPS.

FAMILIES are also caught up in the war.

THIS WAR has hit our home. Our son Mike is in the desert. Until he returns safely the light on our patio shines day and night on a large AMERICAN FLAG tied with a YELLOW ribbon. We call it MIKE’S LIGHT. Please light a lamp in your window or keep a porch light on, fly the flag proudly, and tie a yellow ribbon for those in harms way. Post a picture of your tribute here.

What else can we do to support those who are sacrificing because of the war? Everyone can do SOMETHING.

Who do you know that is in-harms-way? Tell us about them. We can do more to support our loved ones. We can make our voice heard here and make their voices heard as well.

When I asked our son what I could do for him, he said, “You speak for me!” Mike said I should tell people that each man and woman in the military has a job to do. They need the support of the American people to get the job done and come home!

Mike’s Mom .

Hi Kelly

It’s been too many days AGAIN since I’ve been here. Things just seem to get in the way. This is the beginning of a letter I wrote Mike this week. O think you’ll get the idea!
Mike
You know the feeling when you have to hit-the-ground-running? That’s how my days have been. I seem to have so much to do on my “A” (MUST DO!) list that even that stuff doesn’t get done. Writing to you is way toward the top of that list, but other things keep getting in the way. It’s been too many days now and I will get this to you tonight!

When I go to bed at night I’m even sleeping fast! Remember when you were little we would tell you boys that? You would fall asleep in the car on the way home and I always told you to “sleep fast” because tomorrow was going to be another busy day. And you did. And it was! Well, that’s how I feel. I’m sure all of us feel a little like that right now...

Well, that is how it is for me. Nothing new for us MOMS! Right? I guess burning the candle at both ends catches up to you sooner or later!

How are you doing? Thanks for the e-mail offer. I’m going to get the address here soon as I get the OK. --OK? Also, I’ll be making the rounds to some of the boards this week to try to get folks interested in this board --I’ll check back with Social Discussion then.

Thanks for your reply. I know that soon we will have more folks posting here and things will start happening. Let’s just keep-on keeping-on!

I see you’re on praying ground
A prayer is sacred
So profound!

I do not ask for anything
But that “God’s will be done” in EVERYTHING
That is the hardest prayer of all
For some will live and some will fall!
I would that PEACE could rule our land
But AGAINST EVIL --someone must stand!

So I am resigned that Mike is there
He must do his part
He will do his share

MOTHERS on the OTHER side
Pray also and wait as I do
GOD show us your will
We ALL wait on you!

I really think it’s time to tell more of our story

Mike is scheduled to be home at the latest in March and will again be deployed about the end of August. His unit rotates in-and-out every 6 months. He has committed to 3 years of this! This is only the first year of this.

Charmen, Mike’s wife will be deployed in May. She will be in the war zone about 3 months. They are BOTH career Air Force. Mike and Charmen have been married about 5 1/2 years. You may remember I mentioned they have two little boys: Hunter 4 and Cade 2. that’s why we are here!

After 911 Mike asked If I would come to help Charmen if he was deployed. She was pregnant with Hunter at the time and he was an Instructor in New Jersey. We were in Oregon helping with our youngest son’s two boys at the time, but stood by ready. We hoped it wouldn’t happen, although we all started to prepare for it.

He accepted a different assignment and had to be gone out-of-country a lot. We worked it out to move to Charleston SC just before Cade was born. His dad and I have been on the scene since July 2003 So you see, we have to be in this for the long-haul! You know some the rest.

Let me say again... FAMILIES ARE IN THIS WAR! Ours is just one story! And it won’t be over soon. That why we need to reach-out and tell our stories! I’m confident that the few people here will tell a few more people and the interest here on drphil, com will grow. Please tell others and please help!

Yes, I’ve been very busy again. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned that I have a Shared Diary =TRUE BLUE and another board on drphil.com called Blue Notes. You can always find me there. I write a lot on other boards too.

Sometimes it’s just very hard to come here and write about Mike. It’s sort of like exercise. You know you need it. It helps you in so many ways. Sometimes it hurts during and after, but you are better for having made the extra effort. That is, as long as you work within your limits.

Mike is doing well. He is ready to come home already. I haven’t gotten e-mail for a few days. They are very much on alert because of the referendum coming up on Oct. 15th.

One thing I do know is that he and his troops have a bunch of good coffee. Some Starbucks employees sent some of the monthly free coffee they get to Mike and the guys in Kirkuk! All Mike said he wanted was GOOD COFFEE and disposable razors ---he and most of the guys shave their heads bald! So “bad guys” WATCH OUT for the bald-caffeine-crazed AMERICANS with coffee-breath!

Thanks again for writing. Bet you are glad you had some time to do things around the house and have Mark there with you? Greetings to your family.

A Future of the Past

Hi folks I am knew to these boards, so i just thought i would stop by and say hiya to all of you.My husband was in Afganistan for a year then home for about 4 months and of again to Iraq. He came back from there after about 8 months.  He came back with an injury but is doing great now.I just want to say  some of the days r long and the road can seem never ending  at times. The best thing  for my self was to stay focused I stayed busy and was busy with the kids If you can stay focused It will also help the kids during this long seperation. Reach out to each other on those lonely days and nights and to those who know what you are going through ecah day and lonely night. I want to share  one of my poems i wrote when My husband was deployed  many years ago Hope you enjoy!

A Future Of the Past

I knew you before i met you

A Future of the past

In Orbits of our own...

Yet.. twin dimensions

An unearthly glow is cast.

Your body revolving around me,

warm and enveloping

Like the earth revolving around the sun,

Surrounded by the stillness

Sudden roars and rushes,

This wind becomes wild,

I stand within a perfect gale.

Like love... the pulse of life

My heart here like a photogenic organ

Reflecting the imperfection

Of the perfect world.

A sourse of light in the universe,

But know...

Light depends not upon a reflection

I knew you before i met you

A future of the past...

I came by to read and check out how this board is doing.

As you know I don't have any personal family in the service at this time. But I pray for all the troops and family's involved in this war.And also those who have been giving support and order threw these recent storms.

I think this is a wonderful thing you have done by beginning this board.I am sure more will be coming to post-----just give it time Hun.
