Dr. Phil's first guest, Charlie, admits that he's a racist and it's tearing apart his family. He has stopped speaking with his daughter, Virginia, because she's pregnant with a biracial child. With the baby due any minute, will Charlie miss out on the joy that comes with a grandchild?  Then, Rujon says he's prejudiced against his own race because he "acts white." Should he be concerned about what other people think? Plus, Marla's daughter, Daphne, has been missing for six years, and her photo was never shown on the news. Marla is angry and says missing African-Americans are ignored by the media. Dr. Phil attempts to even the coverage by putting photos of missing women of color front and center. Why did Dr. Phil let Ty off of the hook?

Quote From: torad14

Like Rujon, it is refreshing to hear from people who is considered to be in a "minority" race and doesn't find it a detriment. PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE. In my personal opinion, Rujon's freind was just as racist as the first man that was interviewed.

I agree. Ty was very racist and I was disappointed Dr Phil did not adress this in their conversation. Ty joked about it and I felt like Dr Phil should of challanged him that this was not a joking matter. He basically wanted his friend to remember that he came from slaves and being conservative is giving up on his heritage. Why was Dr. Phil all over the first guy and not really all over the attitude of the second guy. Yes, I know the first guy was out of line with his language and attitude, but he was admitting he needed to change. Ty never admitted that he has a major problem. I see this all the time around people I work with or get to know in my life. The African-American community is struggling with hatred for what has happened in the past with slavery and I wish there was a show done on this problem. I think more and more people in our society in general are starting to change in the same attitude as Rujon. I just wish Dr. Phil would have really dealt with his friend Ty the same way he dealt with the first man on the show.

I am happy for you.

Quote From: jeashi31

I don't see why people can't just can't accept the fact, that people fall in love with whoever makes them happy.  My boyfriend is black, but i don't just prefer blacks over another race, i have dated anyone who makes me happy and treats me good.  i am 6 months pregnant with my second child and had a problem telling my family, but you would think parents would want the best for there kids as long as they are happy.  It is my life that i have to live for me and my kids.  not for everyone else, even though it would make it easier if my family accepted it.  Everytime we go out in public we get people staring at us and i don't understand why people just don't see two people that are happy  and in love.
I agree with what you are saying but I want to make a different point. Where was the man that fathered this girls baby in the first part of the show? I did not see him in the show at all so I am not sure if he is in the picture of wanting to raise this child or not. I do not think the father was right at all but there might be a possibility that he will be paying and raising this child for the rest of his life. I almost felt like the daughter got pregnant to an African-American man on purpose to just make her father mad. I am probably wrong but with the man not in the interview at all it concerned me for not only the girl but the grandfather also. I heard that the percentage of African-American woman having children with a father in New Orleans was as high as 68%. I think there a lot of good African-American men who take great care of the their families but I think there are a lot of African-American men who are still blaming our history to much for their respondsibilities. This is a sad opinion for me to have but I am tired of people that I have met that keep blaming my grandparents and family past that for their hurts today. My family came from Germany and Denmark many years ago and I was born in Detroit. No where near the south but because I am white, I still here the blaming game going on.

You make a very clear points (clapping hands) ... I was wondering where the father was too but maybe he had plans or something that couldn t get him there who  knows... You really do make good points because I know of some people who like to play the blame game and saying poor me this and poor me that and not want to better themselves... it s ridiculus...move on.. yeah there may still be some racisim out there but hey I don t pay those people any mind. I guess for some people it seems they want to keep the slave mentality and want to put fault on someone who had no involvement with those times.

09/22 Are You a Racist?

Quote From: motivator

All I said is I understand where Rujon's friend is coming from.  Certainly people have a right to do as they please.  We also have the right to our own opionions, that includes me.  I couldn't care less who you date or why.  Why are you so bent out of shape?  Some things will never change, and that includes people choosing to seperate from their race and those who have an opionion about it.

I see you didn't bother to respond to other parts of my message.  May God Bless you and richly keep you.

exactly thats all i was saying is that people have a right to do as they please and not be criticised for who they are. What are you talking about I didn't bother to respond to the other parts of your message?  ... my comment related to all of it. And yes I am a little bent out of  shape .. but like you said some things will never change. I guess we will all have to live with that... I am not holding anything againist you and I was not trying to come at you personally but in general some the the stuff you wrote I have heard over and over again directed at  me and that is why I wrote what I wrote.

whatever

Quote From: motivator

You are absolutely right.  Those racist Blacks who enslaved innocent white people and enforced Jim Crow laws, making you drink from that clean fountain labeled "whites only" while they drank from the dirty fountains, chose to ride in the back of the bus, work as maids and janitors when they had college degrees.  Darn it!  When are they going to stop crying racism and realize  they are the ones who have all the political and economic power.  Poor white people have to settle for being the first hired and the last fired.  For being able to change laws to accommodate them.  You go Grandmafuz!

I never "enslaved" anybody. I wasn't even BORN yet during the Jim Crow period. And I'm willing to bet that you are a young person too, so YOU may not have even been alive either. I work right next to two friends who are black, and I doubt they would be the "last hired, first fired" just because they are black. the idea is insulting. Just because SOME employers may do that doesn't mean they ALL do it.

Let it go. If you live in a racist neighborhood, maybe you should move to more open-minded areas. Not EVERY white is a racist simply because they are white. Oh, and there are poor white people too, including me and my family. We aren't all rich at your expense.

Let's "out" a big fat lie in our country: "Only white people are racists." LIE LIE LIE. Some of the biggest racists I've ever met have been black and asian. Heck, there are racists of ALL colors. How do you think it feels to walk down a street with a car-full of black guys following you saying things like, "Hey little white girl, better run home to your dad."

It happens everywhere. Lets stop the tired "white people are the devil, black (or other minority people) are saints" rhetoric.

Just because the father of teh baby wasn't on the show, doesn't mean anything there are a lot of white guys also who don't stand up to there children also.  just because a woman has a baby by a black man, doesn't mean that other people gonna be raising there children.   there are men of every race that doesn't  support there children.  i am gonna be raising my child on my own and if the father is around that is great, and if he isn't then i will do this on my own.  but he does take up the responsibiltiy of paying child support.  which i know alot of white guys who try to avoid paying child support.  we need to stop catagorizing about blacks and whites and start catagorizing as the human race.

Missing Girl Question:

My husband and I were watching the sad story of the missing girl - Her mother has stayed very strong & I cannot imagine going through anything like that. I'm confused about using the "race card" when blaming the media for only talking about the other two White girls (Lacy etc..) It does not make any sense at all. So there were only two teenagers that have been reported missing in two years nationwide?????There are hundreds of missing teenagers every month in the U.S. without ANY coverage at all and majority are White!! We're not running around claiming that a son or daughter didn't get media coverage because the media is racist! I just saw a flyer at the local mall here for a missing teenage girl..she has been missing for over a month now...never was broadcasted on TV news even locally...she was not Black either. I know there was a lot of coverage for the last two missing girls, but their family had money and it was a scandiolous story line about Lacy. The media is horrible and does look for wealthy familys with a story line in order to make headlines. But it has nothing to do with their color!! Please let's stop this. It's getting out of control with the blames for hardship, jail etc just because of skin color..no it's not skin color, it's the action of the person -that's why they go to jail, black, white whatever. Stop the Race CARD!

Been There

Boy, can I relate to Rujon! I started reading at the age of 22 months; as a result, my spelling and grammar were way beyond my age. Being of ethnic descent, my peers called me "proper girl" and  "oreo." (Oh yes, did I mention that I've been a Barry Manilow fan since 1974?) I was pretty much an outcast until I attended high school in another county. There, I was free to be myself--and I've never regretted it. Rujon, stick to your guns. You are who you are--be proud of it!

Are U A Racist?

Quote From: kandy73

So you have done your civil rights contribution by dating "numerous" black boys.  Why did you do that if you harbor such ill will toward them?

Either you live in a HOLE or you need to get out more often.  I have not met any "blacks who feel entitled to your tax dollar.  I am single mother and have worked and paid taxes on every dollar that I have earned.  My kid goes to the best schools in the country and the last I checked, your tax dollar did not do a DAMN for me or my children.

Instead stabbing those blacks you used to carry the "banner of equality" for in the back, why don't you go tutor their children and show them a different way, because like it or not the majority has not taken any time to teach these people how to manage money, home and work. I know you come from a priviledged life of not having been deprived of an education, work or a meal (believe me that is a privilege) but you were conditioned to manage your life while slaves were let loose to fend for themselves with little or no help at all from your majority.

I am for social responsibility for ALL races, because it is not just about me.

So step down from your pedestal and get involved in the real world.

Amen! from VA

i agree

Quote From: heyaamya

I completely relate to you BCurry.  I have heard that I talk "white" as well, and I have to constantly reply with, "No, I speak properly!!"  And that's all that's to it.  I think it has now become a problem where people now feel there is a certain way that a person is supposed to be based off of their color, which is so far from the truth.  I really hate that it has gotten this ridiculous.  I have a two year old daughter and now they comments are that she talks white.  It's almost as if black people often feel they are beneath white people; when they are not.  Everyone is equal.  And if  you feel less than another person, that's something you need to work on within yourself, or ask to go to the Dr. Phil show and he'll straighten you out.  Comon' people, can't we all just get along.

i can also relate. growing up, i couldnt be-friend a single black girl, because i was too "white." i never understood what that ment. i was called everyhting in the book. i dont speak ebonics, and i cant understand it when other people do. nobody believes me when i say im born and raised in florida, b/c i dont have a southern drawl.  the thing that bothered me the most, is that i got made fun of by other black woman more than anything. i wasnt to light skinned, but i wasnt really dark either. im half indian and half jamaican, so they said im not really black.(explain that to me). and i had my hair pulled on all the time, b/c they wanted to know if its a weave. i didnt experiance any racism except from the black girls in school. so, b/c i didnt talk to them, i was labled a snob. i dont understand why some balck woman are turning against others, just b/c they're different, when we should be supporting each other.
