It's Ask Dr. Phil day and the doctor is in! The sky's the limit as Dr. Phil answers anything and everything -- including some questions with adult content! Melissa and Larry have been debating for years about what exactly constitutes oral sex. What they do agree on is that it's ruined their sex life and they're ready to put it to rest once and for all. Then, at just five feet tall and 100 pounds, this model says she's too petite for her dreams to come true and feels short-changed. Hear what she has to say about overweight people who win prizes for losing weight! Next, can you love your animals too much? Ken says his girlfriend treats her dogs like they're her children, but is he just jealous?  Join the discussion.

Tall women have it worse off than you Ms. Petite!

I really don't have any sympathy for that girl complaining that she is short and that she is so hard done by because she is short.  I am 6 feet 1 inch tall.  Does she not think that tall people have comments made towards them?!!  I never think I am ever that tall until someone makes a remark about how tall I am.  And trust me that happens on a daily basis.  I get asked if I play basketball?  and if I don't why not?  How is the weather up there?  As if it varies that much for a five foot tall person or a six foot tall person.  It was tough growing up being taller than the boys, sometimes even taller than your teacher.  I was wearing womens clothes and shoes when I was a teenager.  I was lucky enough to have a mother who is a beautiful seamstress and could make me a dress when I needed one.

I have come to accept my height for what it is.  I have to live with the challenges that I can't shop in the same stores as my friends.  There is a petite section in every department store, clothing store and even boutiques fit small enough for petite people.  You don't see a tall section in them.  They don't carry tall pants or longer shirts.  If they do advertise tall it's not actually tall inseam it's usually an inch or two longer than average length.  I can't buy shoes where ever I want.  I have to buy mens running shoes because they don't make women's shoes to size 13, if they do it's very rare.  I have to spend extra money again if I actually want a pair of women's shoes and go to the specialty store.  The one thing that really bugged me about that girl is that I bet she has no trouble finding a guy.  Because guys love short girls.  The taller the guy the shorter they want their girl.  It doesn't matter how many "target rich environments"  I put myself I will not find a tall guy looking for a tall girl.  (Okay maybe I haven't accepted that part of my height yet)

She's right about the clothes

So I found petite Melissa to be correct in one area, when you're short it IS difficult to find clothes. I'm the AVERAGE height for an American woman: 5'4". So why is it that pants with the length marked "average" (at some major retailers) don't fit ME. I'm considered "ankle." What? So, what they call an   "average"  person's pants don't come down to their ankles? My quest for correct fitting pants has vexed me for years. Of course, height isn't the only factor. Weight and body shape (I'm "hippy.") also play a part. However, who are all these super-tall people buying "average" and "long" pants? There are fewer women above the 5'5" mark than below.  And I'm NOT saying pants shouldn't be made for tall women. Jeez, to wear a mini skirt without looking ridiculous would be fab, but what I am trying to convey is that the fashion industry is severely out of touch with the market place--stock or even overstock pants for us "ankle" sized women. We're the true average.

And that's another thing...can we somehow please find a universal for pants sizing? Men have so easy! My dad's been a 32X32 all my life. I've run anywhere from an 8 to a 14 depending on who makes the clothes and what shop they're in and whatever other factors are involved. "oh try these on in a size bigger; they run small." What? How do clothes run small. You, the designer, don't you have the power to place the tag on the clothes as you see fit? Have the tag reflect THE ACTUAL SIZE of an ACTUAL woman.

carli

This message is to Carli. My husband drives crazy and he's an angry driver, so years ago I stopped letting him drive when I'm in the car. I drive everywhere. I don't say anything I just always go to the drivers side. I got tired of him arguing  with other drivers. So It solved my problem. Good luck.

I'm short too

I have no problems on being small. In fact I'm the smallest one in my family. And tall men likes small women. Because we are spit fires. We can stand our ground. I laugh about my vertical problem, because to me it's not one. I'm married to a 6'3" man. And my first husband was 6'1" .

Wow! Could we just eat less? Is it that simple?

Dear Dr. Phil – The things your guest Melissa (5 feet tall, 100 lbs and miserable on Oct. 4, 2005) said about overweight people burned me up! Of all people, she should be empathetic of other people’s physical flaws.......Does she honestly believe that all overweight people got that way just by overeating and the cure for their obesity is simply to eat less?  Wow, if that were the case, we would all be thin except for a small percentage of people who have to have their Oreos........I’m 5’2” tall and nearly 200 lbs and 39 years old, but I am in no way an overeater – quite the opposite. I eat less than my 74 year old mother-in-law who is also the same size as Melissa and doesn’t exercise, but only weighs 90 lbs........Scientists are still discovering more and more non-overeating reasons why some individuals are more overweight than others. Just last month, scientists officially determined that men lose weight faster than women (And I thought it was common knowledge). When I took developmental psychology at college, I learned that the number of fat cells you have an adult is determined by how much you eat when you’re under a year old. I don’t remember being able to say “that’s enough” at that age – maybe Melissa did?.......There are numerous other hormonal and metabolic imbalances which cause one person to weigh more than another despite identical lifestyles. Pregnancy not only makes you gain weight quickly, it can stick with you. In my particular case, I have a documented hormonal disorder, the cause still unknown (my doctor thinks it may be related to poly cystic ovary disease), which not only caused my weight to explode in my early 30s, but also took away my ability to have children.......There are numerous other health related disorders: heart failure, diabetes, liver disease, kidney failure, to name a few - which cause the body to retain water and give the appearance of being overweight. Look at Stephen Cojocaru, former celebrity fashion guru from the Today Show, who now appears overweight due to recent kidney disease. Think of all the people with undiagnosed health disorders who are too ashamed of their weight to go to the doctor, thinking they have large bellies and necks simply because they are too fat........There are individuals with physical disabilities or illnesses which prevent them from exercising, such as a good friend I have who has deformed feet (her shoes hide them from view) and is very self-conscious of her weight.........I would like Melissa to meet individuals like Stephen Cojacaru who are large due to documented medical problems. Then, I’d like to ask her why she thinks these people look like they do. Then I’d like to tell her the real reason. I’m sure it would help educate her and others who are just as small-minded....... And, God bless the large fashion designers!

Rewards

Although I agree with everyone else that the short model was just trying to get air time and had no real issue being on TV, I did agree to some degree with the bone about overrewarding guests.  The other day when Dr. Phil was able to present the women with no backbone with an acceptence to a school for a B.A., I was disappointed in the show.  I worked very hard to be accepted to college, and if I couldn't read, I can guarantee I would not have gotten in.  I realize that this women worked hard too to be able to own her own business, but if I could have gotten into college just for having some issue that got me on TV where's the justification in that?  Offer her a program to help her get her G.E.D.

I just feel like - I have a lot of issues too, but I'm work towards my Ph.D., can I get a free spa trip and meet a celebrity too?

Insecure Much?

How Ridiculous!! I am a Big Beautiful Woman and I love it! I enjoy who I am. I was flabergasted at this woman's comments towards larger people. Who does she think she is? Aparently not Mrs. Perfect because if she was she wouldn't be so concerned with her height. I know everyone has insecurites but to point out that you may have it worse than someone else is ludacris. Dr. Phil I think that if you want to get a point across to this woman send her shopping with me. If she thinks it's hard finding clothes for a size zero I wish she could try finding clothes for a size 22. I am very into fashion but unfortunately stores don't cater to my size only a quite few and I'm lucky if they are trendy! I am only 22 years old. And in regards to the comment all us Overweight people need to do is stop eating, I don't know about you but I need food to survive. I am so glad to be who I am, big or small.  With that I have one last thing to say,  I have an idea the next time your looking for a place to live make sure your kitchen cabinents are on the floor!

If this is your BIGGEST problem, be Thankful!

Quote From: jyoung

I am 5"0" 100 lb and wear a size 1  (when I can find it)    Forget about shopping in a department store.  You're lucky to find a size 4.  All of my clothes are purchased from specialty shops or the children's department.  The children's shop isn't usually an option, however, because of the juvenile styles.  I have trouble reaching into high cabinets and many other issues affect me because of my short stature,  The world is geared to larger people.  It's evident in everything around you.  Take a look at your chairs on your set.  Short people end up having to swing their legs because their short legs can't reach bar to rest their feet.  Is it really necessary to have such HIGH chairs, Dr. Phil?

I identify with the short guest on today's show.  I also feel I don't get the same kind of respect a taller person gets, and I'm very conscious of that happening around me.  I'm often treated like a young girl, even though I'm 51.  It's not fun being petite and I have suffered through it all my life

If this is your biggest  problem or struggle in life then God bless you!, or has blessed you I should say! I understand physical struggles all to well, may be different but all boils down to t he same thing.  Move on! I said in a message earlier directed at Melissa.  Stop complaining about what you don't have, and start being thankful for what you don't have.  I could go on forever but seriously, just look at the big picture, the world around you and be thankful.  Thankful that your 5''0 100lb body can wear a size 1 or any size f or that matter! be thankful that you have full function of what God has given you.  OK I'm shutting up notw!
