Dr. Phil and his guests strike up heated conversations as they debate the latest hot topics. Should women give up their right to breastfeed their babies in public so other people don't feel uncomfortable? Will passing out condoms in schools prevent unwanted pregnancies or just send the message to kids that it's OK to have sex? And, is it acceptable for others to discipline your kids if they see them acting out in public, or should they just mind their own business? Dr. Phil weighs in on these controversial subjects. Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Wow!  You really believe that???  How sad for you....just because some women don 't have children on here..yet..it no reason to think badly of them.  It seems as if some of you "moms' on here act like you are above everyone...let me tell you something...not all "moms" are great.  Almost any female can get pregnant and have a baby...that doens't automatically make her a "mother"!
I believe what she was saying was 'people with no kids have all the answers ABOUT KIDS'  Which of course, until you have walked a mile...you don't know what the heck you are talking about.

10/07 The Latest Debates

You're just a fountain of intelligence, aren't ya? No, I believe that she was saying that maybe, just maybe, if you kept your nose in your business and quit looking for something to bitch about, then maybe you wouldn't find it... In the instance referred to here (breastfeeding in a restaurant), if you're not looking around at other people and keep your attention focused on eating your food and chatting with your company (if you have any... nothing implied by that), then (and here's the crazy part) YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BE OFFENDED BY! I have a question... do you ever go to the beach? If so, why not boycott bikinis? Because they're in an appropriate setting, right? well, Feeding your child is appropriate ANYWHERE... I know it's crazy, but, hey....

You do understand that I was asked to come to the Dr. Phil show so that he would have a show for you to watch, correct? So, I would think twice before you question my intelligence.

No, I never go to the beach. Ever. Thanks for asking. Feeding your child is not appropriate anywhere. Not in everyones opinion. I think that point just flew right past you. But you all seem to think it is your RIGHT to impose yourselves on other people. Well, other people don't think you do. Is that simple enough for you?

And BTW, most babies won't be screaming if they're allowed to nurse when they need to.  Take your pick.  :)

I am giving this one more shot because I am stunned at the lack of comprehension from people who consider themselves SO intelligent.

Not everybody holds your point of view. You cannot force it on them- they are not required to think like you, just like you are not required to like everything they do (smoking, foul language, loud music around your child). But this does not mean you have the right to impose yourself on everybody else around you, the same way you wouldn't want anyone else imposing themselves upon you. Does that make ANY sense at all? Did that pentrate the brick wall?

FOR BREASTFEEDING

God gave us boobs to feed and nourish our children.  I for one will NOT be ashamed to nurse my children nor have I ever been ashamed to in public.  Would you ask someone to take their big mac to the bathroom while someones making a deposit so to speak in there? NO>> then why should we have to go to the bathroom to nurse ..which is our children eating? ... when I nursed I didn't show as much skin as those women who work at HOOTERS do.  If you don't like it..then don't stare.  Just like if ya don't like two men or two women holding hands or kissing DON'T STARE>

It was grand...bye, bye...

Well, it's time for me to get off this merry-go-round.  Time for me and my family to get on with the week "To Do List" - a baby shower, shopping for birthday gifts, school, getting some California sun and decorating our home for fall.  Light those pumpkin candles!!!

It was insightful reading everyone's opinions and learning about everyone's different needs.  Maybe this program and debate will help make our world more aware of  everyone's needs and try to work together.  Thanks.  Bye.

Just moms

Personally I don't know what to make of that. Oh well. I believe the statement was made to say that not having the experience to fully understand the difficulties and issues faced by breast feeding mothers and all mothers makes many statements not make sense to a mother, and even seem silly in real life situations. The time and energy it takes to breast feed a baby full time is a huge commitment of time and energy. For the first several weeks, even months, mothers are feeding their children every few hours around the clock. For those who's baby wouldn't take a bottle or pumping isn't practical there is no break or reprieve from the constant state of exhaustion. But these mothers don't do this for glory or money, they do it for their babies. No, not all moms are great, but when you have a pregnancy, give birth to a child, and care for that child to the best of your abilities, you are absolutely a mother.

Nice...

Nah. I have a life to lead now, and it is pretty clear that you just want to pick a fight. I left you with a great quote from from someone else and you still weren't happy. I don't know that someone like you ever is. :)
You couldn't answer her last question so you avoided it by answering her rhetorical one... nice move... I'm not impressed... What? You have no intelligent and logical answer for what she asked you??? surely you're not giving up this easy? Or maybe you've accepted that she HAS a point and that this whole thing is ludicrous...

Are you still online? Don't you have children to care for? You really are just here to fight, like I said.

We all understood what she meant. You don't have to have children to actually know how to care for them, or have an education, or even an opinion. That is a totally ridiculous statement. Even having kids is no guarantee......

It's not that easy

Quote From: bmwgirl740

Why don't these women that insist on pulling out the breast in public, use a breast pump? I find it very offensive to try and eat dinner while a child is making a sucking noise on a woman's breast! Talk about disgusting!! Yuk!!  That makes me very uncomfortable and frankly it makes me sick. Ladies, pump your milk out and carry a bottle. Why do you insist on breast to mouth contact in public? Please don't be so selfish by putting your child's needs in front of other people.

You do not have to breast feed in public, that is a choice.

I'm a pretty modest person and I'd love to be able to pump a bottle before I go out to take with me.  Unfortunately, it's not that easy.  I have to pump 2 or 3 times to get enough milk for ONE feeding.  Should I have to plan for a week in advance to go out for a day?  Then I'd have to pump while I'm out to keep up my supply (it's a matter of supply and demand... if you don't use it, you lose it).  I can guarantee pumping in public would be a lot less discreet than nursing.

Is a baby sucking on a breast really that much worse than someone slurping their soup or chewing with their mouth open?  Should those people not be allowed to eat in public as well?

It seems like people here are complaining about women exposing the entire breast (which I've never seen), not the people who are discreet about it.  I don't see why people have to generalize and say that all breastfeeding mothers are disgusting exhibitionists when probably 99% are covered by their shirt or a blanket.

Thank God I live in a state where my rights to nurse in public are protected by law.

Well, here's the thing; i don't watch TV so it doesn't much matter what show he made for me to watch... Are you saying that just because you were asked to be on the Dr. Phil show you have to have intelligence? WRONG! You need an opposing opinion and you need to be somewhat well-spoken...

You said AND I QUOTE: "Feeding your child is not appropriate anywhere."

That statement was proof of your intelligence, I suppose?

Can't feed them anywhere, huh? At home I suppose you could be walking by and happen to see someone sitting on the couch feeding her child... Heaven forbid...
