(Original Air Date: 10/13/05) In a heartbeat, your entire life can change. No one knows this better than the families of Brandi and Daniel. Seventeen-year-old Brandi was a cheerleader, an excellent student and an all-American girl. She was in love with athletic 18-year old Daniel. Now he’s dead and she finds herself behind bars serving a 12-year sentence, all because of what happened in just a split second. Was it murder or simply a horrific accident? Hear members of both families describe how the tragedy unfolded, and the struggle to put together the pieces of their shattered lives. Plus, Dr. Phil visits Brandi in prison to ask some very hard questions. She has an emotional message for Daniel's mother -- and for Daniel. Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

10/13 Cheerleader Scandal

Quote From: bkabse

when Dr. Phil was interviewing Brandi, he asked if she did it out of anger or was it an accident.  What did she say?
She said it was an accident and she think he jumped because he didn't want her to leave.

wow...

My condolences for both families.  I can't imagine how hard it must be for everyone involved.

However..  the accident is over.  its done.  now the tragedy begins.

By continuing to seek revenge for Daniel's death, everyone's lives are being ruined.  I realize that sounds like a dumb thing to say, considering his family probably assumes their lives already are.  Things happen every day to people all over the world and all over america.  People die.  And if every person retained everything from each painful experience, the whole world would be as bitter as both these families are.  Sure, life isn't going to be the way it was imagined, but why continue living if you're wasting it with anger.  It won't bring him back, all if will be doing is bringing down everyone else's lives as well.  Accident, or on purpose, whats done is done... and ruining Brandi's life, her family's and Daniels family will NOT bring him back.  Live for the moment, because this can happen at any time to anyone.

And always remember, eye for an eye and the whole world's blind.  Revenge and anger is blinding both families, live or die, that's your choice now.

What are you thinkig are you crazy. My Brother never mentioned in his life that he was going to kill her or her brother let alone him self. He had full scolarships to school and football. You really dont know what you are talking about  cause that is what her family said  All you guys go by is what brandi and her family says and that is bull. We didnt get a chance to tell the truth. IT WAS NOT SUICIDE

I think that you need to live your life to the fullest and realize that you still have a mother and a father and a brother for you love and experience lifes little moments with!!!  Stop blaming Brandi for something that she didn't mean to do!

i feel bad for the famlies but i agree with the guys family i had a sister that hit her husband out of anger and she now is on community service cause she didn't kill him that is the only reason she got off so easy but i didn't feel no remorse for my sister cause i know what she did was wrong and i do think brandi did it on perpose especially if he was controling.so i think she is not telling the whole truth cause how can some one not see anyone in front of them and hit him only at 20 mph and he landed on the window no i am sorry something is not right about that.

deal with it

I completely believe Brandi's story, and think that the time she has served is enough.  If there isn't hardcore proof that somebody intentionally murdered someone, then I do not believe that they should be imprisoned for a large portion of their life.  Daniels family needs to drop the hate, and deal with the reality of the situation.  There son is gone, yes that is hard, but there is no changing the past.  Taking away an innocent girls life will not resolve their problems.

Forgiveness

Foregiveness has to start so that they may start to get on with there lives. After all GOD forgave ALL of us and sacrificed His own Son for our sins. And I trully believe that none of us are better than GOD that we can't forgive. As for Brandi, only she and GOD really knows what happened. But she will have to live with that memory for the rest of her life. Reverend Wayne Hicks

...

I've only watched the begining so far, but if Daniel's family is saying it was premeditated, but wasn't "abusive" then what would be her reason? If he was as great as they claim then she wouldn't  have a motive.

10/13 Cheerleader Scandal

I too have been in an abusive relationship, so I totally understand why Brandi went to Daniels house that night...I did basically the same thing when I was trying (after numerous times) to break up with him. when I left the place where he was he chased me to my car and ran out in front of me...i too ran over him...just his leg though which DIDNT result with a very bad injury. I too fled the scene and felt like Brandi did. My sympathy is with both families, but something really needs to be done about men abusing women, whether its mental or physical abuse...and vice versa...

My thoughts and prayers are with Brandi

God Bless

Cin

This show was stupid.  I want to know the actual report that shows the cars position when it hit the body are there tire marks how far out in the street was the body. Stuff like that. Common sence with stuff like that determines who is at fault!

10/13 Cheerleader Scandal

Quote From: cuevas1

I think that not only should Brandi take the blame for this but the parents need to be blamed as well for not keeping these young kids out of such a grownup relationship at such a young age.  I have learned from expierence that realationships like this at their age always ends up in disaster.  The parents need to step back and take a look at the bigger picture and try to learn from the expierence and try to be helpful in educating other parents about knowing more about what goes on in their childs lives.

Brandi is TOTALLY guilty for killing Daniel. She went into her parents bedroom and took the car keys WITHOUT permission, which is theft! She NEVER asked to take the keys. Her father says that he's a light sleeper and he would have heard Brandi taking the keys, which doesn't add up right. Now, that Brandi's 17 and served about 3 years of her 12 year sentence, she was only about 13 years old when this happened. A 13-year-old should never be behind a wheel of a motorized vehicle, when he/she is not in the age of majority to drive.

Brandi's story does NOT add up right. She says that after she hit him she never noticed that the wind shield was damanged until she got home and tried to lie to her parents about it before she confessed. When she got home, she put part of a tree in the wind shield to make it look like a tree busted the wind shield.

I sympathize with Daniel's family, even though I don't know what it's like to lose a sibling or a child, but I do know what it's like to lose a parent. I know how they feel!!!!!
