(Original Air Date: 10/19/05) Sexual orientation used to be something kept hidden from family and co-workers, but now more and more people are "coming out" and finding acceptance. Anjela says her mother and sister don't support her sexual orientation, and feel she can't be Christian and gay at the same time. Can they reconcile this touchy issue? Then, two men debate whether a person can go from gay to straight, and parents of a 4-year-old boy fear their son's desire to play with dolls and wear heels means he'll grow up to be gay. Are they overreacting to his wishes to be a princess instead of a prince? Talk about gender and gay issues here.

Is anyone following the news about the Episcopal Church debating the homosexual clergy question this week?

A question

for those so certain sure that homosexuals will be damned

What if we get to heaven only to find that God is highly exalting the persecuted homosexuals that loved God in spite of His Word being used to persecute them.  Will you be able to admit that you were pretty much completely wrong, laugh at your  foibles and come on in? Or will you find it impossible to join in and exalt homosexuals with the rest of us?  Would it still feel like heaven for you?

06/06 "I'm Gay, OK?"

I was watching Oprah and her program today is very relevant to this discussion.  I think it helps to put a face to homosexuality.

Hi Lucky...

I couldn't agree with you more.  Childhood sexual abuse begets damaged people...by The Grace of God, some are healed.

Homosexuality is just as natural as heterosexuality.  From very early ages...with no evidence of any sort of abuse, children *know* their orientation.  Same with gender identy...the heart is what the heart is no matter the body that encases it.

The thing is...I *do* know homosexuals...and I *do* know transgendered people...and quite frankly...I barely notice their sexuality, just as I'm sure they could give a dippity do about what I do in the bedroom...they are people...that's all.  I work for an organization in which a very high ranking person has come out as transgendered.  Her competency...her abilities as a surgeon, physician and administrator is still *exactly the same* as when she...was a he.  That's all I care about.  She announced the change...and now it's business as usual...we care for our patients as we always have.

Once upon a time, people of color were considered abominations and "less than"...once opon a time women were considered "less than"...

*sigh*

When will it end?

Marie

The lack of knowledge of this issue is astounding isn't it?  Every time I hear someone say homosexuals are all pedophiles I try to remember  to consider the source, you know? The "source" of this kind of inaccurate statement is usually an under-educated, or uneducated, person who truly is unschooled in the facts, and lacking in their understanding of pedophilia.

You are SO right about the "once upon a time" comparisons.  Do you know, I had a friend whose mother actually believed, was convinced, that black mothers did not love their children as well as white mothers do!!!!!! She said this was due to their smaller brains.  No amout of factual information could pierce her sad, bigoted reality.  I'm afraid there will always be those among us who haven't learned to use the brain and common sense God gave them.  Personally, I try to exercise mine every day :)  - sounds like you do too!

So you think sins of the body are greater than sins of the spirit?  I just can't agree with you.  Do you think that a person with a hard heart who withers the joy around him/her in the hearts of  spouse, children, employees or collegues is preferable if s/he just never has sex??

BTW-there ARE many other sins comitted with the body that aren't sexual-physical violence, gluttony, sloth, alcohol or drug abuse are some that come immediately to mind.

Those only concern your body the sexual sins concern yours and someone else's.

06/06 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: judyblue22

I'm heterosexual and a Christian and I don't think homosexuality is anything I need to condemn.  First, I am by no means certain that it is a sin if it happens within a loving relationship and second, I'm not here on earth to worry about anyone's sins but my own and my children's.

I don't just feel this way about gay people.  I may be called to witness for Jesus but _to me_ that means living a life of kindness and generosity with charity of spirit to others.  I don't think I or anyone needs to preach:

  • against gluttony to the overweight;
  • temperance to a drunk;
  • against killing to a soldier;
  • chastity to a whore; or
  • against sloth to the inactive.

It isn't my job to root out and condemn the sins of others.  It isn't my job to make sin a political issue.   It IS my job to let the light of Jesus shine from me.

We are called to be like Christ and didn't he preach against sin? I am sorry but you sound like you are trying to just ignore the sin and choose not to relay the message of Christ. If you think that people are going to see Christ within you without telling them about him you are wrong. I have seen many good caring people who are not Christians and will die in their sin if they don't repent and ask Jesus into their lives. If the light is not shone upon sin then the darkness will over take the spirit. Jesus spoke to sin as well as to love. When I go to church if I don't leave without my toes stepped on at least a little bit I don't feel like the sermon was a very good one.
