(Original Air Date: 10/19/05) Sexual orientation used to be something kept hidden from family and co-workers, but now more and more people are "coming out" and finding acceptance. Anjela says her mother and sister don't support her sexual orientation, and feel she can't be Christian and gay at the same time. Can they reconcile this touchy issue? Then, two men debate whether a person can go from gay to straight, and parents of a 4-year-old boy fear their son's desire to play with dolls and wear heels means he'll grow up to be gay. Are they overreacting to his wishes to be a princess instead of a prince? Talk about gender and gay issues here.

God commands us to love everyone

Today's show was very thought provoking.  I am a born again Christian and believe the Word of God.  That Word (the Bible), does command that we love everyone.

My pastor preaches that we are to love everyone including those who's lifestyles, habits, skin color, ethnic make-up, gender, or living situations we disagree with or consider an abomination to God.  We are not to judge, lest we be judged.

I believe that we were all created by God and for me to embrace the gay lifestyle and say someone is born gay is to say God made a big mistake, which I do not believe is possible.  I will not throw my beliefs out the window to embrace the gay lifestyle just as a gay person will not throw their lifestyle out the window to embrace my beliefs.  So while I love the person, and acknowledge their right to have the lifestye they have chosen, I do believe that it goes against God's will and purpose for your life.  So believing that we are all created by God, it is my belief that what makes a person gay / lesbian is their choice to engage in a relationship with someone of the same sex.  Next comes the phrase that if I don't discuss my heterosexual sexual exploits with you, don't you discuss your homosexual sexual exploits with me and being gay or straight becomes a non-issue, we are just people.  It comes down to what you believe.

God gave us all free will, we have all sinned at some point, there is no big sin vs little sin.  Sin is sin.

God loves us all, He has a plan for us all.  We just have to believe and walk in His light, love, peace, and joy.

Quote From: johnnyb119

That's like saying Black people can become White people because Michael Jackson did. God makes people gay. He doesn't want to change them.
That's like saying God makes people pedophiles, rapists, murderers, and thieves. He gave us the free will to choose to be these things. We all have to struggle to overcome a sinful nature. Just because we desire to do something or something feels good to us doesn't make it right.

The definition of judge is:

1-To pass sentence on; condemn.

2-To form an opinion or evaluaion

3-To act or decide as a judge

I'd say telling someone they are a sinner would qualify as judging. But that's just my opinion.

So having any opinion on anything is judgmental and therefore wrong? That is ridiculous.

Quote From: nikki_pvn

It is interesting that most debates have to include religion. When someone wishes to condemn a thought, a view or an opinnion it is so much easier to filter their own personal hate or dislike by hiding behind the bible.  There has been more debate on which transcript of the bible is correct than on the actual topic. Posts that contain views such as "God does not allow men to wear womens clothes, and women cannot wear mens", or "right-wing bible thumping", 'New Orleans was flooded because they are all sinners"?!. How do these comments justify the topic ?

If a 'holy being' does exist, I'm sure that he/she/they would be more concerned about the wars that are raging around the world, and perhaps 'protecting' innocent children that are being killed, and not waste time tut-tutting gays.

My 'religion' consists of the unconditional love that I have for my family and they for me, this is what gives me the inner strength and ability  to be a happy, caring and a compassionate person.

My first post was answered with not a reasonable argument but "you will not enter the pearly gates",!  your wrong because my 'pearly gates' open every day when my child gives me a hug and a smile............

I actually don't think about gay people at all, because that is just what they are people!

It is not enough that they are treated like lepers, and constantly fighting for their dignity and place in society.  Ignorance is a dangerous weapon.

Hopefully commonsense will prevail, and people will be able to respect others for who they are and not what.

I am a heterosexual female happily married.  And once again to those who 'preach' try that 'love thy neighbour' without the buts and ifs.

I'm not sure who is 'hiding' here, because both sides claim to be Christian and therefore the Bible is the authority for both of these sides.

If anyone is hiding, it seems to me to be the gays. I haven't seen them post any scriptures yet that shows that God condones or accepts their livestyle.

I'm not sure why there is debate among which version to use either because they all seem to make it pretty clear.

What is your truth?  Is truth really relative?

Take the OJ Simpson trial.  Some believe he killed Nicole.  Others believe drug dealers killed him.  Others believe he was framed by white supremists!  Well guess what?  They're all right.

Personally I do not believe truth is relative.  That's why it's called 'truth'.  And there is truth when it comes to God as well.  There's a real story on how we got here, why we are here and what will happen in the after-life.

If truth is relative, then those in India who allow baby girls to die have found their own 'truth.'  Cannibailitic tribes have found their own 'truth'.   Morality is based on these supposed 'truths' but aren't you glad you are in America where the truth is, or at least once was, built upon morals of Christian truth?

So where do you find your truth?

Read the Bible. It clearly states that God hates sin. He is a God of love, but also a God of wrath. Just because you don't understand His ways doesn't make them any less true.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: blessed23

I do have complete respect for all people, and I do not judge anyone's heart as God does. If someone says they are gay then it is a fact that they are gay, not a judgement. God calls homosexuality a sin in his Word. Therefore as a Christian, I can call homosexuality a sin. That is what God calls it. And you said that you have your "own spin" on how we will be judged, but we will be judged according to God's spin on things. The Bible is our guide to His spin on things. The Bible tells us not to lean on our own understanding. That is where Satan trips us up. God's ways are above our ways. Just because we don't understand God's ways does not make them any less valid. We need to pray for His wisdom, not try to bring Him down to our level of understanding.

I guess I need to clarify.

Spin, as I ment it is to mean my understanding of Jesus'  teachings.

I do not pretend to think that I can ever be on the same level of God, be it He on mine or me on His. Gos and Jesus will always be above me. And I do not pretend to have blind faith.

Because I do not understand God's ways, I find myself questioning and asking for His guidence in understanding Him and His wishes for me. It is up to me to listen.

However, we are off topic.

As a Christian and a gay male, I too live in contradiction to many other Christians.

This is why I say not to place other's sins above your own.

Jesus tought me that much.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: cpe0317195

people who are unaccepting of gays have me feeling distraught, anxious, saddened, yet still hopeful.  my husband & i have three beautiful & loving children all in their mid-twenties and our middle child (a daughter) is a lesbian.  i know this is difficult for people to understand because in the beginning (when we came to the final realization) you do think maybe they will grow out of it (but that is our own insecurities coming out)...but seeing the daily struggles of our daughter starting in her early teens trying to be whom everyone expected her to be and not her true soul was truly sad for her...and ultimately us.  through lots of tears & tribulations our daughter is today a successful & happy person.  we are thankful and blessed because our extended family (grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends) have turned out to be very loving and supportive.  this past year our daughter had a commitment ceremony and is now "married" to a beautiful african-american woman with a young daughter.  my daughters partner was married once before to a man because she also did in her younger years what was expected of her....though now in retrospect we are all thankful that my daughter and her partner have a daughter!....also i might add she got married to do what is expected because her brother was already out of the closet being gay...they are the only two siblings in their family.  now we have a beautiful blended multi-cultural extended family and we all love one another and get along!!!...in fact we are ALL going on a cruise together in 2006!

Mazel Tov to your family - and congrats to your daughter, her wife and "instant daughter", enjoy the cruise and have a safe journey - bon voyage!

As you probably know, same-sex marriages are legal here now (Canada) so there'll be more and more of them tho' all of the friends I have who have been through commitment ceremonies say they're not going to bother.

Pedophiles rapist and murderers did not have a choiche most of them had to endure some form of abuse themselves they are people who need medical attention and are in a way sad people, they are the creation of an unloving and unforgiving environment. They mostly did not have a choiche!

Adam and Eve, not Steve

Quote From: johnnyb119

I constantly hear the argument that God made Adam and Eve, and in doing so validated the theory that a woman should only be with a man.

Adam and Eve's children procreated with each other to populate the planet. Does that mean God affirms incest? I hardly think so.

Being Gay is not a choice. God makes you that way, and loves you the way you are.

Being Gay is a Choice.

Just like serving God or the devil is a choice.

No, God does affirms incest, and anyone that thinks

he does, does not know God or his love.

God is Love, Merciful, Full of grace and truth,

but he also has a judgement side also.

When he destroy people in the Old Testament for their evil ways,

he gave them time to repent and turn from their evil ways.

But when Awesome love came in the form of Jesus,he is the reason and

praying saints for his grace and mercy reaching out to us all.
