(Original Air Date: 10/19/05) Sexual orientation used to be something kept hidden from family and co-workers, but now more and more people are "coming out" and finding acceptance. Anjela says her mother and sister don't support her sexual orientation, and feel she can't be Christian and gay at the same time. Can they reconcile this touchy issue? Then, two men debate whether a person can go from gay to straight, and parents of a 4-year-old boy fear their son's desire to play with dolls and wear heels means he'll grow up to be gay. Are they overreacting to his wishes to be a princess instead of a prince? Talk about gender and gay issues here.

Do some research

Quote From: kdaniels1

Being gay is not gentic.  No Dr. has proven that unless they themselves are perverted.  Being gay is a choice.  You have the choice to do what you will.

kdaniels1

You can't just spew off statements at the top of your head and claim them as facts.

A few months ago in the Toronto Star there was a research article about the connections between hormones and being gay. The study found that in gay men, by smelling the scent of another males sweat, released the same sexual hormones that straight men did when smelling a woman's scent

This study was done over a long period; they also measured the hormones of pubescent boys when they smelled a male and female scent and used this to predict later sexual orientation. By testing younger boys, there is less risk to assume that gay men are aroused because of conditioning, rather than genetics.

And I doubt this is the only research completed in this area

Being gay may part be choice but probably a greater part of it not a choice

PS - Why whould anyone CHOOSE a life of inner-turmoil and potentially family-breaking results?

Did you "decide" to be attracted to members of the opposite sex? Did you one day sit down and say, "Well.... I guess I'll go for the men" - No, of course not, it was a natural feeling to you

I'm Gay & I'm ok!

Hi

I'm a 39 yr old man who has tried everything. I did Christian counselling, deliverence ministry, broken generational curses, did Living Waters twice, did the Sy Rogers course Living and Loving, did numerous short courses through the Baptist Union and did an accountability program with my church.

In July this year, I came out to my church and had to leave when I realized that God loves me uncondionally and accepts me the way I am. I have since found out that my sexual orientation can't be changed as I was created by God a sexual being. It isn't a bad habit and shouldn't be compared to drinking, smoking or drugs as they are habits and my sexual orientation isn't a habit.

I then came across Gay Christian Network www.gaychristian.net which has helped me know that I'm not alone and you can be gay and a Christian, they aren't at opposite ends but can live together.

If you are struggling with this issue, you will be welcome at GCN, there are resources that will help you in your search for answers and insight.

God bless

hivyo

Hmmmmm.....

I read all these responses with a lot of interest  and curiousity, and one thing keeps popping up in my mind: what about interpretation from the word of Christ by the apostles? Christ didn't pen down the words, his Apostles did in his name... but what if they decided to adapt certain passages, change his words. I honestly cannot believe that Christ says to love each other but to exclude a portion of man/womankind...Honestly, the Bible has been translated and rewritten for 2000 years, isn't it time to keep that in mind? Homosexuality is just another way of loving one another. It is not for everyone, but shouldn't be discounted as something sick or perverted. I'm not gay and I've seen things far worse happen in so-called "straight" relationships. I only listen to what God/ the Universe lets me know in my heart and use that as measurement of a good life, not what any book tells me (Bible, Koran, Torah or whatever). Nobody knows the truth, so let's just accept each other and try to live together.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: adawife

I don't believe for one minute that they DID NOT have a choice. Of course they did. I don't understand why you would want to make excuses for them. They consciously made the decision to what they did. Sure some of them grew up in a bad environment but that can't be used as an excuse. There are countless numbers of people in this world who were victimized growing up but everyone of them don't turn into pedophiles, rapist, or murderers. We has humans have to make the choice to better ourselves. These people choose not too. I, like many other who post on this, could tell you some really awful stories from their childhood but that doesn't mean we were destined to turn into something bad.

Ok maybe I said it to strongly indeed, but I want to say it isn't just black and white. The reason that others might not become a pedophile is that they get help but if you're abused by you're parents and you're in a lower class environment, and your IQ might not be very high that those factor's can contribute to becoming a pedophile. And that making a decision might not be very possible anymore.

Murderers mostly did indeed make that decision, but I know a kid who is being hit by his macho dad when he get's angry and he has a mother who says he didn't do nothing. The result is that he can only express anger by hitting and screaming and provoking. He was raised in an environment so that he now doesn't know what good is or how he should express his emotions. And you know if he doesn't come into contact with the police before the age of 15 I'll be surprised.

And for rapists well it could be that if you are said to on a daily basis you're bad, you're nothing you can't do anything (right)  and stuff by you're parents and dirict family it could be that you want to prove them wrong and that you want to make a statement that you can do something wright. But at this point he can't think straight in terms of good or bad he will probably be on the verge of killing himself so he might go for rape murder because he can be in control, and thus can survive because he would otherwise kill himself.

And then you have personality disorders where you are wired so you will make bad decisions and you might not but a bad decision is then triggered by something.

And so there might be choiches and most victoms of o form abuse turn out to be very okay but the difference is that they had a loving environment to come home to, if you take that away there might be a lot less of a choiche. And no some will probably conciencly made the decision, but I just want to say that there are poeple who cannot help it all that much

I'm a victim!

I think the older sister on the earlier part of the show was just trying to make a "statement" and blaming her family for not participating.    I liked her mom's response to her - - loving, but firm.  My core response is similar to the mom's.......if this is something you have an urge to do - but it's against God's word, then you must not act on those urges.  It's the same as an adulterer, a murderer, a thief, a liar, a gossiper, etc..........none of those please God and should not be acted upon.  Temptation is temptation regardless of the actual sin.  Not saying it's easy, but to me that's the only way to live a God-fearing life.  I don't believe any of those other sin areas listed above could get away with crying "that's the way God made me".   Each of us has area/s where we are tempted.........all against God's word.  But that's what walking the Christian path is all about:  living by God's guidebook and not on our own.  He KNOWS what's good/bad for us  but we have a tendency to want to go our own way........whatever that way is.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: mommyjenna

God did not condemn incest until a number of generations after Adam and Eve.

It wouldn't have been a genetic problem anyway because there was no genetic history.

God has given us a very large book with a lot of instruction and insight.  Where does it say that he makes some people gay?  I'd really like to see what scriptures are being used here.

Noah's Children also had to procreate with each other. And that was after the condemnation of incest. Where does it say that we can drive cars in the bible? Since it doesn't is it sinful to use them? I hardly think so.

Gaychristian.net

I'm so glad that Justin was on the show today to spread the good word that you can be Gay and Christian. You don't have to hate yourself anymore, or try to change yourself into something the Lord never intended you to be. There was a period of time not too long ago when slave owners quoted the bible and used it as justification for owning slaves. Thankfully people understood that you have to look at the context in which something is written. Not everything can be taken at face value. It is easy to. But easy and correct are not the same thing. Being gay is not a choice. Who in their right mind would ever choose such a lifestyle? It's not a sickness. It's not a product of childhood trauma. It is the way God intended you to be. He made you the way you are and he loves you dearly.

You can reconcile your faith and sexuality. Visit Gaychristian.net for more information.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: ronin2

There are some of you who say that, according to the Bible, homosexuality is a sin, and there are some of you who say that the Bible does not even discuss homosexuality. I am sixteen and the only bible I have ever owned is a childrens bible I have had since I was eight, so maybe I am just young and ignorant, but the whole time whole time you all are talking about this, there is one question that keeps coming up in my head; Why? Why would God consider it a sin to be homosexuality, what is wrong with it in his eyes. Does it hurt anyone? Does it violate the ten commandments in some way? I just don't understand it. God, as I know him, does not see it as a sin to be different. When I sit down and wonder what God thinks of me and what kind of a person I am, I know he does not look at my body, my genes, or the way my brain functions, he looks at my soul, so that's all I look at. That is one of God's purest, simplest, and most meaningful truths, that all are equal in his eyes. It just baffles me as to why someones sexual orientation makes them any more or less worthy in God's eyes.

Out of the mouths of babes.

I think your post is the most thoughtful of all.

Please don't be insulted by the " babes" comment, I just mean that  I think you're wise beyond your years.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: mommyjenna

Well guess what.  Despite what you may think we don't hate gay people at all.  I don't know how to convince you of that.

I'll state it again.  Who am I to say that homosexuality is right, when God makes it pretty clear that it is not right?

I would love to condone the lifestyle and the people but I didn't make the rules.  God made them and I trust Him and trust that He know better.

Yes, human hands wrote the Bible.  God gave them the words and they wrote.  The stories aren't older than Judaism because the first writer was Jewish.  You're right about the telephone game.  Word of mouth is never going to be accurate.  However, the Jews wrote the words down and guarded the scriptures with extreme care.  They copied them meticulously and we have archaeology, including the dead sea scrolls to prove that they couldn't be more accurate.

About Jesus and the apostles and what they wrote.  Only you can decide whether or not what they wrote was truth or lies.  Keep in mind they all were martyred for their beliefs.  Also keep in mind, before Jesus ressurrection, they were regular men with many doubts.  After the ressurrection, they became witnesses that regularly went to jail, knowing their fate would eventually would be death.  So you have to decide.  Was Jesus the greatest liar that ever lived, or was He the son of God?

Now we all know that Hitler spewed out lies and brainwashed a nation.  An entire nation CAN be brainwashed .  Do you agree?

I would not believe someone who said they were the son of God, (like David Koresh) because God only sent one son.  Before his arrival, there were hundreds of prophesies surrounding this event.  People knew where he would be born and the 70 year span in history when it would happen.  God certainly never fortold of another 'son' of God coming.

I would urge you not to just 'think' about God. Read the book.  Talk to Him.  Be honest with Him about everything.

You say:

"Who am I to say that homosexuality is right, when God makes it pretty clear that it is not right?

with that sentence you say I don't have to think about the issue. It was god's choice so I'll defend it. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY don't hide behind religion.

About those stories yes they are older then judaïsm some date back to the times of babylon and the ancient egyptions.

And about jesus those stories where actually written down centuries after he lived hence my story about the gossip  And to support this why is it told he lives around 0 AD while most scientist think he lived around 30 AD or how come that cristmas, the birth of christ falls together with a paigan fest (celebrating the return of the light if I'm not mistaken but could be wrong.) And that many christian fests fall together with a paigan celebration. It wasn't because it actually happened there but it was because they wanted to "kill" the paigan believe system.

Yes but Can an entire world I ask (wether it is Judaïsm Islam or Cristianity) because whatever you believe the "others" have it wrong so they where in effect brainwashed by the devil or what you want to believe.

And a holy book can be interpreted in many different ways so let's take a step back and look at the Koran for instance. In the koran it says woman should cover their body well no it says they should cover their hair mouth and nose well no it says they should cover their hair well no it says that women look better if they cover their hair and some say that even that cannot be read in the Koran so it's all about interpretation.

In the netherlands there was a row within the church because a priest said that homosexuality was a disease. The other priests corrected him, in the Netherlands the priests say homosexuals do have a place in the world according to god. They also defend the use of condoms. So they just interprit the teksts differently and according to what the current modern society needs.

And you ask sort of why I don't believe in god well for one i find my religion in adifferent form of religion wich doesn'tinvolve a god after life or what ever my reasons are simple.

I was raised as a roman catholic yet as I grew up I saw that science has pretty much taken down many thruths in the bible.

The vatican does not want to change it's view and erodes the bible even further

I disagree with many of the vaticans views

The vtican has been for centuries about might and money instead of god and you are all using the bible which has been kept by this institution for many centuries.

I do not believe god would let us go ahead and kill his creation (global warming, extinction of species ect.)

I do not believe I want to worship a god who does not settle the dispute on which religion is the true one

I do not believe a god would let the distinction of rich and poor continue

I do not believe a god tkaes away mothers and fathers from their young children.

I rather believe that their isn't a god then to believe their is a cruel one.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: jeremiah

The Bible says that man shall not lay with man.  Men should not wear woman's clothes and woman shall not wear men's clothes.  We are to love the sinner, but hate the sin.  We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.  Being gay is a choice and God never makes us do anything we do not want to do.  But we have to what he wants to get into heaven, we are accountable to God for everything we do.
Who says there is a heaven?  Some HUMAN BEING who wrote the Bible and made up an awful lot of rules as a social control in times when people were afraid that thunder and lighting were the angering of the gods....welcome to 2005, when gay people are everywhere and you have to show God that you are as loving and accepting and open as Jesus was---whoops, you are failing!
