(Original Air Date: 10/19/05) Sexual orientation used to be something kept hidden from family and co-workers, but now more and more people are "coming out" and finding acceptance. Anjela says her mother and sister don't support her sexual orientation, and feel she can't be Christian and gay at the same time. Can they reconcile this touchy issue? Then, two men debate whether a person can go from gay to straight, and parents of a 4-year-old boy fear their son's desire to play with dolls and wear heels means he'll grow up to be gay. Are they overreacting to his wishes to be a princess instead of a prince? Talk about gender and gay issues here.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: tulseyjoe

As a Believer in Jesus the Christ, I do not self-identify by the Syrian Greek-speaking pagan created hateful epithet, "Christian," when I refer to the "Old Testament" which Jesus himself called the "Old Covenant," I am referring to the writings which the Jews consider to be their Scripture.

All of The Jewish writings written before 30 AD were referred to as the Old Covenant by Jesus himself. He also referred to the 1st 5 books, traditionally called the books of Moses by many, as the "Law."

In a way, the "Law" was the same as the Old "Covenant." For those who wish to be believers in Jesus the Christ, they are not required to obey the Pre-Jesus Covenant-Law. But, Jesus said that those who wished to live by the LAW given before he came would be judged by that LAW. He did not do away with that LAW; but, his new Covenant-Law, aka New Testament (not the Bible Collection, but, his commands) was a higher LAW which made the Jewish Law not important for His Followers.

Christians, especially those who think homosexuality is a sin and say "Because My Bible says so," pick and choose which parts of the LAW in Pre-Jesus time they want to live by. Never mind the fact that they commit lots of those "abominations" listed in the book of Leviticus almost every day.

As you judge, so shall you be judged - of course the people who live by the law would be judged by the law because that's karma.  What you sow you reap.  An eye for an eye.  Those who follow the consciousness of those laws become a part of that system of thinking and invoke those laws into their own lives.  They judge other by those laws and they are judged by the same laws because that is how they live and choose.

People just love to judge others and hate on those who aren't following the rules they adopt in their own lives.  It's sad, they don't realize how far from love they really are when their mind is full of judgement.

Dr. Phil should have a show about.../

Quote From: jordanj

It is so gross to compare affection and love between two consenting adults with a person who molests a helpless, scared child.  Do you think that two gay and mutually consenting people can't love eachother?

Some people think that gay people are just perverts that want nothing but sex with many partners.  That's not true, I know people who are gay and are monogomous and in love. I'm one of them and I've never cheated on my partner who I love very much.  I'm not promiscuous and never have been.

What's wrong with loving another persons soul regardless of what's between their legs.  The soul lives forever, the body only a matter of decades and I know I'm not going to have a penis after my body dies. My soul will always love my partners soul.

I think Dr. Phil should have a show about the difference between the rape of a child and mutually consenting adults who wish to pleasure and love eachother, because some of you obviously just don't get it.

wrong post

Quote From: maria_44

I didn't say that molestors were primarily molestors, I only responded to your comment about all molestors being heterosexual according to Oprah and Dr. Phil.
I didn't write the original message.  I was responding to your comment just to put everything into perspective.

the conviction

Quote From: maria_44

I did not mention any type of scientific studies in my comment, and I suggest you take a second look. What I said was simply my opinion, like most of us.

I'd like to know which ones apparentely make you so sure that gay is a orientatation from birth.

You spoke with absolute conviction including CAPS that being gay is a choice. So I gave you the benefit of the doubt that you actually had some evidence.  I wasn't making any prouncements. You were. But since you bring it up, the evidence that orientation is not a choice is both from psychological studies and from gay men themselves.

Great post

Quote From: jandrus

Homosexual folks are pretty consistent in populations world-wide. No matter what country you look at, which belief system people belong to, population size, and whatever other factors you can think of... it's always around 10% of the population that is homosexual. It is normal. Whether you like it or not, it's a natural thing to happen. It's not only a strictly human phenomenon either. Did you know that at certain temperatures you can make groups of male flies form long mating chains? Did you know that there are species of fish and other organisms that can alter their sex to accomodate their community? Ever seen a hermaphroditic banana slug mate with another of its kind, then watch them each chew off the other's penile projection so the other can't mate again? Nature is full of fun quirks, and homosexuality is one of them.

So what if we don't know what causes it. We'll figure it out someday. Most scientists are split between whether it's caused by environmental pressures or genetic changes. Nature vs. nurture. Homosexuality is a fact of life, and for anyone to deny that is just completely silly.

Even more silly is for someone to think that their beliefs should come before personal freedom, equality, and respect for our fellows. Marriage should be something that anyone can participate in. It's a union between two people who love each other. I know that's beside the point, but it is very important.

You hit the nail on the head. There are even dolphins who have been noted by biologists to have homosexual relationships.  There are scientists who theorize that homosexuality is the next evolution in human kind, to keep the population from growing rapidly.  As Malthus stated see must remember land in a constant, growing food is addative, and population is multiplicative. So by curving the number of people having babies, it could help us sustain life.

the choice of being heterosexual

I am curious to know at what point did the hetersexuals on the board decide to become heterosexuals? Was this a concious decision, or was it a decision made for them? If so, one can presume they were not BORN heterosexual. Otherwise their orientation was from birth.

YES

Quote From: cal9380

God loves people for who they are, not how they live, how they act, or if their gay or not.  You can't criticize other people for being the way the god made them.  I happen to think that God's love is endless and singling people out of God's love is awful!  We can not hate and that's that.

I totaly agree with you !

I think that "singling people out of God's love" is like being racist.

You can't be Gay and Christian at the same time

It's not possible.God created sex as an enjoyable way to reproduce. If you can't reproduce with your partner (unless it's a medical condition) then it is wrong!

YOU MISSED YOUR OPPORTUNITY!

Having been marketed as the world's leading expert  authority on absolutely everything there is to know about everything (observation only) you missed a prime opportunity to educate a lot of people with regard to sexual orientation, in that it's not a conscious choice that people make here on earth, and that's backed by scientific facts and an immense amount of research by the American Psychiatric Association, The American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association.  Even brain scans show a marked difference between the brain of someone who was born gay and someone who was born heterosexual.  Granted... none of these professional organizations can put their finger on "why" some people are gay or bi-sexual, but they have completely ruled-out that it's not a conscious choice that one makes.

There is also no documented evidence from anywhere in the world (to the best of my knowledge) whereby a person or organization (religious or otherwise) has successfully changed the sexual orientation of any individual.  There is a simple, psychological explanation as to why the "ordained minister" experienced what he experienced when he was younger, and I think you should have educated him and your viewing audience on that as well.

I believe the real basis for the problems which the mom has with her gay daughter, IS the fact that one of her daughters IS gay, and not a lack of communication.  The mom admitted in her film clip that she believes being gay is a choice and that it's a sin - she made that quite clear, but talked a good line on your show!

My most favorite comeback to the ignorant people who believe that sexual orientation is a conscious choice, is to ask them how old they were when they woke up in the morning a made a decision to be heterosexual.  That usually stops them in their tracks!

I'm a white male, 55, and very much heterosexual with no hidden agenda.  Just ask my wife! :-)

READ THE BIBLE!

Quote From: lapine

I totaly agree with you !

I think that "singling people out of God's love" is like being racist.

God says many times in the Bible that it is absolutly NOT okay to lie with the same sex. If you were really one with God,you'd know that.
