(Original Air Date: 10/19/05) Sexual orientation used to be something kept hidden from family and co-workers, but now more and more people are "coming out" and finding acceptance. Anjela says her mother and sister don't support her sexual orientation, and feel she can't be Christian and gay at the same time. Can they reconcile this touchy issue? Then, two men debate whether a person can go from gay to straight, and parents of a 4-year-old boy fear their son's desire to play with dolls and wear heels means he'll grow up to be gay. Are they overreacting to his wishes to be a princess instead of a prince? Talk about gender and gay issues here.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: april_lk

I thought we covered that all human beings deserve equal rights when we went through the suffrage movement with women (the bible was used to say women belong in the home with no power), and with abolition movements (the bible was used to say slavery was just) but now we need to prove to you people again why homosexuals are no less of a human being than you are? Why would they choose this life when there are people like you in the world hating them and making them think they're wrong? I know a gay muslim and he is so upset because he thinks he is going to hell. What kind of a God do you peopel worship? A life of self loathing because they are not like you is what needs to happen?

My God loves everyone. If two men live together happily in a monogamous relationship, work full time, do volunteer work, treat people they encounter with dignity and respect, are loved by so many people are the ones going to hell? MY God loves them and sees no error in their ways.

Do the heterosexuals that engage in anal sex doomed for hell too?

If I wrote a book now to guide my people and compiled stories and scriptures of what I see and tell the future generationst his is how to be a good ___(insert family name here) and put my current views in there. Okay, today Cyanide acid is lethal. So I would put a story in my book about how horrible cyanide acid is, and to stay away from it or you're going to hell. I would think in 3 thousand years my people would be intelligent enough to use reason (reason is what seperates us from the rest of the animal kingdon) to apply my book to current day issues. What if cyanide was a cure for cancer in 2 thousand years, and my people were too stupid to think for themselves and let their children die of cancer because I said cyanide was bad?

Get the drift?

THINK FOR YOURSELF!

You go girl!

I think lots of folks are going to be truly surprised when they get to Heaven - if they get there at all.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: mommyjenna

How do you get around the words "unnatural" used twice in Romans in reference to homosexuality?
Do the words unnatural and homosexuality appear together in Romans?  Or have you been taught the word unnatural refers to homosexuality?

There is a difference.

girl wants boy--boy wants girl

Quote From: appsas

I'm sorry, I must not have been clear.  I am in NO WAY suggesting that babies are born with sexual tendancies.  What I'm saying is that it could be feasible that a neurological or hormonal issue/imbalance, etc. could not develop properly and when that person, male or female, goes through adolescence, whatever didn't develop properly, presents itself in this way.  I have spoken to many gay people and have had real sincere heart to heart conversations about this, and many of them have told me that they felt like something was different at a very young age (maybe not sexual feelings at 5 or 6) but that something wasn't quite right.  All I'm saying is ... how can you be so sure that there is NO WAY people are born this way.  I personally feel that anything is possible and when people tell me they have felt this way as long as they can remember, it makes me wonder.

I have my own opinions about this. I believe that all people are born straight. That is our NATURAL sexuality. Even at a young age, we feel this. Boy feels "attracted" to girl and girl feels "attracted" to boy. Our natural "girl" doesn't want another girl--it "wants" a boy.....some kind of balance. Same goes with boys--their natural "boy" doesn't want another boy--it "wants" a girl. It's when some people grow up that they get overly curious about male/male...female/female. They possibly experiment and become fascinated with that curiousity and become addicted. When they go through counseling and all, or course they won't go back...they've already experienced it and they're addicted.....they like it. Most no longer have the will power to stop completely.

Saying that they are born gay is dumb. It's only an excuse for their choice. I have yet to hear a homosexual stand up and say "I made the choice to be a homosexual". Why don't they? Because no one wants to take responsibility for their choices. No one wants to say they were not born that way, they chose to be that way--especially with how the United States (especially) is with gay people now-a-days.

Anyway, if you beg to differ, please do.

then don't look at nasty stuff.

Quote From: sboyd55

But it looks so nasty.  Why should I have to look at nasty stuff?

Seriously, if two people are walking down the street holding hands it doesn't bother me.  It's the ones that dress like demons and parade around that make me sick.  They don't want acceptance they want to be outrageous and offensive.  And the rest of you have to suffer all the more because of them.  Of course, the suffering you do here will not compare to the suffering of judgment later.  And it not a judgment when you simply state a fact.

so don't look! no-one's holding your eyeballs open and parading things in front of you - you are free to leave. I don' like looking at kids with their pants around their thighs and bums/underwear hanging out, but I don't get all righteous and try to limit their freedom just because I don't want to have to put myself out and look the other way. I don't like the anti-choice activists who wander around with giant colour posters of aborted foetuses - it makes me sick too. but I respect their right to have their own beliefs, and I simply look away. you could demonstrate the same kind of restraint and respect (seeing as how your god demands that you quit judging people and love thy neighbour), and just ignore it when gay people express themselves in ways you don't personally find attractive. gay people have to look at you and others being straight all over the place, maybe you could deal with gay people being gay with the same kind of maturity that they deal with you?

also, who is suffering because gay people?? seriously, if people out there are actually putting themselves through mental anguish over strangers who choose to be in loving consensual relationships, then maybe some people have too much time on their hands...maybe a hobby would be more productive that suffering over other people's pursuit of happiness.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: april_lk

I would like to know why so many heterosexual marriages fail, why the divorce rate is over 50%, why so many heterosexual men prey on young girls, why they rape them and kill them. Why do heterosexuals do that?
Why heterosexual marriages fail and the divorce rate is completely different than what we're talking about here.....COMPLETELY. Financial reasons, emotional reasons, maybe because the wife chose to go out and have sex with some other guy or vice-versa.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: april_lk

Those who suffer from mental retardation are going to hell too? They do not love God, they do not repent their sins or pray. They are born with the same defficiency as homosexuals. What a cruel God you worship, bringing life into the world in a certain way then condemning them to hell for being exaclty how you created them.

Whoa!

People who suffer from mental retardation are not going to hell! Homosexuals, like it or not, have the choice on whether to lay on that bed and have sexual relations with another of their same gender. No one forces them.

Mentally retarded people CANNOT, even if they wanted to, "repent of their sins or pray". They don't have the brain power for it! Are you implying that homosexuals have the same brain power? or don't have the brain power enough to make their own decisions? That's what you were implying when you compared them together.

By the way, how do you know that mentally retarded people don't love God? Have you asked one? They probably love God more than you or me. What sins do they have to repent of also?

please respond!

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: april_lk

re read your post. You and your righteous self claim to live in the right way because you know what God wants. Thinking you know what God wants is the cause of your condescending attitude.
I'm anything but self-righteous.  I'm sorry if you're mis-interpreting my messages.  I must not be doing a good job expressing what I'm thinking.  I don't judge anyone either way ... simply just trying to see both sides of the issue.  Nothing I've said has been inflammatory and I'm a little confused on why you seem offended.  I'm frankly not even sure what we're disagreeing on.  I haven't said  which way I live so I'm not sure how I've claimed to live 'the right way'.  I also have said NOTHING about knowing what God wants.  Are we having the same conversation?  Sorry for the confusion ... seriously, it is certainly not my intent to be offensive in any way.

umm...why?? why is hetero natural? cuz it's natural to you? everyone was born hetero cuz you were born hetero? do you think maybe other people have a different experience than you? by your theory, anyone with a different hair colour than you is unnatural, wrong, and chose to be that way.

also, if hetero is natural, why do some people who experiment with the same sex like it, as you say, while others don't? sounds like two different orientations to me.

lastly, america is homophobic (in general - not every individual of course). there are gay-bashings, government-sanctioned discrimmination, fewer rights etc etc. why would someone 'choose' to be gay if they were naturally inclined to be straight? do straight people just wake up one day and say to themselves "gee, I'd really like to make life more difficult and dangerous for myself. I think I'll go be gay"...??

not a very sound theory...

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: rlanthier

If only sexual attraction were a choice. We could 'choose' to be attracted to anybody, depending on their availability, and other more practical factors. Even heterosexuals could decide to be attracted to partners that would ordinarily not be considered attractive- the disfigured, the grossly obese etc..

I could choose to find broccoli delicious - which I despise. In fact I could to find all the healthy things delicious and none of the unhealthy foods. But unfortunately that's not how desires and attraction work.

heterosexuals can be attracted to someone who is "disfigured or grossly obese". Love, as homosexuals describe it, is "looking beyond the outside to find the inner beauty". Are you saying that heterosexuals cannot find the inner beauty of the "disfigured or grossly obese"? Of course we can! I'm sure a lot of people are not ordinarily considered "attractive". A lot of people are not attracted to the same gender as them, but somehow, others do.

Please explain your statement more.....please.

Bible led early Christians to literacy?

Quote From: mommyjenna

The Bible was hand-copied and distributed.  Yes, it was long and tedious but the early Christians were ferverent, many of them willing to become martyrs.  The Bible is what led many early Christians to literacy.

I have no idea what you mena about that Sweden thing??

Can you prove that? After the Bible was officially complied as a collection of books in 397 AD, by the Eastern Orthodox people, there is no evidence that the churches even taught their parishoners to read from a Bible.

I know for a fact here in Oklahoma that as a general rule members of Roman Catholic Churches were told NOT to own a Bible, let alone read one. It was not until the 1970s before they approved of church members owning a Bible and reading it on their own.

Why were they told not to read the Bible? Because the RCC leaders were supposedly afraid that they would misinterpret what they read. And only an ordained minister in the RCC was allowed to interpret what they read in the Scriptures. Well, that meant that the Holy Spirit must not be involved with the church member's walk with the Lord or the fact that the RCC people were afraid that some church doctrines and traditions were NOT supported by what was written in the Bible.

And, also, Jesus, Himself, did not approve of spiritual leaders being called "Father" or by any other title.

One thing has been proven in this message board discussion about Wednesday's show, lots of people don't know when things are meant to be taken as literal and when some things are meant to be taken as figures of speech or metaphors by the Bibles authors. Jesus used parables, made up stories, a whole lot of times to teach a particular doctrine. They had truth in them; but, they were not actual literal events.
