(Original Air Date: 10/19/05) Sexual orientation used to be something kept hidden from family and co-workers, but now more and more people are "coming out" and finding acceptance. Anjela says her mother and sister don't support her sexual orientation, and feel she can't be Christian and gay at the same time. Can they reconcile this touchy issue? Then, two men debate whether a person can go from gay to straight, and parents of a 4-year-old boy fear their son's desire to play with dolls and wear heels means he'll grow up to be gay. Are they overreacting to his wishes to be a princess instead of a prince? Talk about gender and gay issues here.

OMG

I understand that people are entitled to their opinion, but i am absolutely OUTRAGED! I can not believe that someone has compared homosexuality to alcoholism. Homosexuality is NOT a disease! there is no cure for it. I can not believe that the "ex-gay" minister compared homosexuality and alcoholism, was applauded, and no one responded!

06/06 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: jargreen

Yes, yes, WHY is it so difficult for some people to understand bisexuality?  I know many bisexuals, so to say that they don't exist, or to say that they are merely riding the fence so as to not have to "make a choice and be one thing or the other," is erroneous, narrow-minded, and aggressive.  Many of the bisexuals I know are very open to fluctuations in their sexuality, and so they embrace opportunities to have encounters with people of the same AND opposite sex, and they get something quite different and quite grand out of each "orientation."  As far as I'm concerned, anyone who desperately clings to convention and fears sexual ingenuity will be ardently opposed to bisexuality as a valid sexual orientation.  Does this apply to you?
I myself and a few other bisexuals I have known  honestly don't think of people in terms of what is in their pants. They like people. The traits they like, they like and they can find them in men and women. The packaging is not what concerns them.

Anyway, this is my personal experience and other bisexuals I know have agreed with me. I'm sure it's not a hard and fast rule though.

Becoming Straight

I do believe that you are able to pray away any homo-sexual or bi-sexual desires.  I spent 5 years of my life being bi-sexual.  I had several girl friends and actually spent about 2 years with the same person.  I was able to find God, and I now live my life as a straight women with 2 children and no regrets.  I do believe that God allows us to have temptations, and satan knows exactly where to strike us, but being gay is 100% a choice.  I do feel that if someone chooses to be gay that we should love and accept them.  But just the same I hate it when any gay person chooses to stand on their soap box and try to force us to accept every aspect of their lives.

I feel like that is the situation with the sisters.  They should each learn to keep their beliefs away from any contact they have with eachother.  I don't feel that the gay sister is thinking that they should be equal.  She should be treated better and people should fall over themselves trying to prove that she and her lifestyle are accepted.   It's disgusting to me.   Her sister shouldn't have to try to go to therapy with her.  She should go and get her own issues resolved (why doesn't anyone love me boo hoo), and then ask her sister for forgiveness and to join her.  Dr. Phil should have known better, he should have told her straight out "Grow up and realize they only have to love you.  Not all the things you love!"

OK .... I have taken classes dealing with the development of young children as far as I know it is

not bad for male children to play with dolls or other "girly toys" and you should never try to

discourage that . Who desides what are girl toys and what are boy toys anyway? Is it not ok for

a women to work in Constuction? or for a man to be a Nurse? I'm a little disappointed that Dr. Phil

didn't point that out. I have a four year old son and he has asked why he wasn't a girl and has

mentioned that he liked the color pink... does this mean he has a gender disorder? I don't think so.

What four year old doesnt like to wear their parents shoes and play dress up? Maybe this case is a little more extream or maybe Mom is making it a big deal, Dr. Phil said that not  in so many words I

know, but im still disapointed he didn't make these points during the show.

The little boy also said things about wanting to be a girl. Asking his parents why god didn't make him into a girl. I think that is why he didn't bring those things up on this show.

06/06 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: britbuff

Why is it that if I find homosexuality morally & spiritually wrong, I'm labeled "homophobic"?  I'm not afraid of homosexuals (yes, I know some!).  I just think the Bible is really clear that homosexuality is a sin and that's where I get my guidance in life.  But I love my friends who are gay.  I just disagree with their lifestyle.  I am pro-life.  Does that make me afraid of doctors who perform abortions?  I think prostitution is morally wrong.  Does that make me afraid of prostitutes?  Of course not!  My sister is a vegetarian.  Is she afraid of people who eat meat?  It's just ridiculous!

And why is it that I'm considered "intolerant"?  Homosexuals disagree with me, and freely & quickly lable me with these names.  But they aren't intolerant?

And finally, the statement by many homosexuals that their lifestyle isn't a choice.  They were born that way.  Rubbish!!  Why would God say that this lifestyle is so wrong, and then create someone who has NO CHOICE but to follow it?  Lying is a sin, but we make a choice of whether to lie or not.  Murder is a sin, but we make the choice to kill or not.  Homosexuality is a sin, and whether it is a difficult decision or something that feels natural, it IS a choice.

Homosexuality IS something you're born with. I did NOT choose to be bisexual. I don't WANT to be bisexual. I just AM. A homosexual can CHOOSE to act upon their feelings. But they can't choose to HAVE these feelings.

It frightens me that some heterosexuals think they know how homosexuals feel. Try living in my shoes. You don't know how hard it is to be this way.

Angry at priest

okay, so I just couldn't help but write in because of how angry that  priest made me. Okay I'm just an observer and  am basing my opinion on what was there in front of me, but oh my god man! People do not chose to be gay or not!!!! I agree with the young man that the priest (I apologize I don't rem. his name) I feel he is doing more damage by telling people oh yes it's just because somethings wrong with you, you find it and fix it and oh ya you'll be better and suddenly non-gay. And this is me-coming from a non-gay woman. I think there is nothing wrong with gay people and oh yes they can belive in god and still be okay. It makes me incredibly sad that those who claim to be christian and preach how god is about love and acceptance and yet so many people in this world just can not accept each other. Okay if it's a religious difference can't people just say-I disagree with what you are doing but I am going to love you anyways, because hello that's what god wants.
any how, this is my rant as I just couldn't help myself.

Keep it to yourselves

Quote From: kamo41098

Today's show brings up the topic that many people struggle with on a daily basis, is it ok to be gay? I (who am a lesbian) believe that this is not a horrible thing that needs to be treated as a deep dark secret.  I also do not believe that it is a choice, at least for "real" gay people. What I mean by that is that I know it is a trend to "act" gay, with those people aside it is not a choice. I struggled for many years trying to fool myself into thinking that I was not gay, in the end I was only lying to myself, and those that I was in relationships with.  I never would have chose (like people think, is how you become gay) to be gay, who in their right mind would willingly subject themselves to so much hatred and critisim.  I think that before someone judges someone for their orientation they should first seek knowledge.  I am not an advocate for the whole public display of affection for hetrosexuals or homosexuals, bedroom things belong in the bedroom and it is nobody's business.  As far as the relgion aspect of being gay, it is not for anyone to judge but the Lord himself.  When it is time for me to meet my Lord he will judge me in his way.  So to all the people who have a problem with it, think before you speak.

I agree who are we to judge i thought the bible said only God can judge. Does God teach us to

hate? I don't think so. It doesn't feel right to me. When you judge your words come out as hate. Do

not use God for your reason to hate. He is not only your God and thats  just not fair!

You matter

Quote From: miinashaze

i am a bisexual woman.  being bi is really hard, as you can't have both. you can't turn off your attractions, and they consume your every thought.  my life is such a mess, i'm constantly depressed, and it has actually started to take a toll on my health.  i have heart damage, and i'm only 21. the stress and anxiety is too much, sometimes i just want out.  but i can't go, so i'm trapped here in my own personal hell, NOTHING matters anymore.  don't want to go on...

miinashaze, you need professional help as soon as you can arrange for it.  Depression this bad really does feel physically painful - but it can be dealt with!!!!

You are so young and still have so many wonderful things waiting for you in life, don't give up.   Just take the first step toward feeling better by finding a supportive therapist right away.  It is possible you need medication also, but don't be afraid of that.  PLEASE call someone near you and ask for their help in getting you seen by a professional first thing tomorrow.

Being bisexual is not the worst thing or hardest thing in the world to deal with - it just feels that way right now because you are very overwhelmed.  Believe me, your life is precious and you DO matter.  You just can't see the forest for the trees when you are knocked down like this by depression.

Please write back and tell me you have called someone for help,  I care.

06/06 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: irishmom

The Bible CLEARLY states that homosexuality is a sin.  However, the Bible also clearly states that we should love EVERYONE, as does Jesus.  There were many people in Biblical times that sinned, but Jesus himself said, "He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone".  I do not agree with homosexuality, but I have my own sins to worry about.  Who am I to judge another when I walk imperfectly?  If one of my children were to come to me and tell me they were gay, I would be very sad for them (for many reasons, not just because of the fact that they are gay, but because it is such a hard lifestyle to live, in part because of all the hatred toward them), but I would LOVE them NO differently.   So-called Christians who HATE gays and treat them unkindly are not Christians at all in my opinion.
There should be more like you ... so perfectly spoken... We all may have our opinions ,but those our are own.

06/06 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: tigercat44

If gays were born gay, were pedophiles born pedophile?  What's the difference in the attractions and desires that these two groups feel?  Don't explain to me that one is between adults and one with underaged children and that's why one of them is right and the other wrong.  My question is, if one is born with sexual feelings to be gay, is one also born with sexual feelings towards children or animals.

If being gay is not a choice, are alcoholism, obesity, smoking, etc, not choices as well?

If someone is born pre-disposed to these "abnormalities", are they forced into doing them, or do they CHOOSE to act upon them?

Are surgical gender reassignment individuals uncomfortable at birth with their sex, or are their feelings generated as a result of society and their environment?

Would our creator be so cruel as to cause confusion?  1 Corinthians 14:33.  NO.

I know someone with diabetes.  She craves sweets like they're going out of style.  She has a strong desire just as strong as gays have a desire and nymphomaniacs have a desire.  Infants are born with diabetes.  Do they have a choice to refrain from the activity of eating sweets as they grow older?  Yes, even though they were born with these "defects", they can turn things around.

These are nothing but excuses, "I was born this way, God made me this way, I've tried to change but I can't."  Yessssssssss, Youuuuuuuu Cannnnnnnnn.   Weren't you ever told that you can be whatever you want to be when you grow up?  Sometimes it takes years to overcome addictions and OCD activities.  It's like a diet or lifestyle change,  if you give up, it's because you had no intentions of ever following through or completing the task.

Are you being serious? I'm assuming your heterosexual. If you don't know how homosexuals feel, how can you speak for them? Let me ask you this. Would you be able to turn into a homosexual? What if being straight was not considered to be "normal" and you were pressured to "turn gay"? Could you? Seriously put yourself in a gay person's shoes. Being gay is something you ARE. There's a difference between choosing which career you want and who you are attracted to.
